KT4V-L & GeForce FX 5900

Anyone know if the MSI KT4V-L supports the GeForce FX 5900 and if there are any compatibility problems with it ?
Will my system cope fine with the card as these are my specs.
Windows XP
Athlon XP 2000+
1GB DDR 400Mhz Ram
MSI KT4V-L
But im not sure if the MOBO will support the card.
Thanks in advance.

no reason why not so long as you have a descent power supply

  • MSI K7N2-IL 2M/B and MSI MS-StarForce GeForce FX 5900 Ultra

    Hi
I wonder if you could help me.
I am curious, the below is the spec of my machine.
AMD Athlon XP 3000 + 333 FSB CPU
    MSI K7N2-IL 2M/B
256 GEFORCE FX 5900 ULTRA GRAPHICS
though the graphics card is reported as MSI MS-StarForce GeForce FX 5900 Ultra [Nividia GeForce 5900 Ultra] in Windows control panel.
I am needing to learn more about exactly what is what in this PC.
I have installed MSI Live monitor and have upgraded to NVIDIA nForce System Drivers though my graphic driver is still reported as 4.4.0.3 or 43.51 [another question why are there two versions given to graphic drivers?]
As Live monitor doesn't report any further updates possible when there are newer Nvidia drivers from the Nvidia website - can I install these ?
Also I am looking for a utility to monitor, change fan speed and temperature, is the Nvidia  system utility ok to use?  It says that it's only compatible with
    nForce3 Pro
    nForce3
    nForce2
I'm not sure if I only have Nforce ?
I would really appreciate any help you may give - I know that the above probably sounds as if I'm as thick as 2 short planks.
    Thanks in advance

    nVidia Drivers
you can get all your drivers there
    both board drivers and vga
you can use speedfan for temp

boards hardware does not support changing fan speeds though

  • GeForce FX 5900 XT, DirectX 8 & 9 games hang -- solved.

    This was my original posting:
I have recently bought a MSI GeForce FX 5900 XT VTD128. To my surprise I have exprerienced numerous crashes in games that use DirectX 8 or better. The games pauses and I get a blue Windows XP (retail version - 5.1.2600 - , without Service Pack 1) crash screen that says the game was stopped to prevent any damage to Windows and some things I should check (wich I did) and in the technical part:
    *** STOP: 0x0000008E (0xc0000005, 0xF7D83E2D, 0xBA2DC29C, 0x00000000)
    *** nv4_mini.sys - Address F7D83E2D base at F7CD9000, DateStamp 3fb91de8
Those hexadecimal are not within the range of memory addresses the VGA card uses.
I get the error with Freedom Fighters, GTA Vice City, GTAIII, Crazy Taxi. The latter crashing much more than the former.
I tried ePSXe (the playstation emulator) using Pete's OpenGL 2 vga plugin, wich uses T&L and pixel shader and I had no problems.
Games that use OpenGL or DirectX 7 or less seem to work fine. This was checked with Quake III and Severance: Blade of Darkness.
DirectX 9.0b tests on DirectDraw and Direct3D found no problems, plus all the files are OK.
Afterwards a friend who works repairing PCs, recommended a clean install with the latest drivers for the motherboard as well as the lastest 53.03 vga drivers (MSI version). All this to no avail; I get the same message.
I've also tried vga drivers 52.16 and 53.06 (Beta), as well as disabling Fast Writes in the motherboard BIOS.
A web search only lead me to some driver pages. MSI have no troubleshooting help about the matter, at least that I could find, neither in the manual nor the website.
I have tried using my old NVidia Vanta again and GTAIII works perfect.
Both cards use IRQ 19 and don't share it.
I've noticed that DirectX acknowledges different files to both VGAs. Vanta's principal controller file is nv4.dll whereas 5900's nv4_disp.dll. The small VDD files are nv4.sys and nv4_mini.sys respectively.
Also nv4_disp.dll has no digital signature while all the others do.
Is there any diagnostic utility I could use to better pinpoint the problem I'm having?
    Thanks for reading this far.
After this cry for help I didn't want to wait for a star to fall so I kept on doing homework. I delved deeper into the forums and found in the mobos forum a thread with a reply that said that bios 7.40 for K7N2 delta-ILSR solved an incompatibility issue with Geforce FX 5900 and another with a way to clean the remains of uninstalled drivers.
I was not up to flashing the bios yet so I tried the vga in two other different PCs.
The first one had Win98 with a  mobo M810MR with DIMM RAM. It worked awfully. It crashed when double clicking an icon, didn't run many games and even didn't pass the DirectX tests. That with 4X.XX drivers (I don't quite remember the version). With 53.03 (MSI version) I wasn't as unstable but still had many problems.
Another PC entered into the scene. One with WinXP and Linux, as well as a KT2V PRo Dual with DDR RAM. In WinXP still couldn't run any games or 3dMark. It even rebooted it a couple of times, just out of the blue. In Linux it worked fine but didn't try any 3D games (didn't have any). It was detected as a Generic GeForce FX though.
Before sending my vga to another region of the country (something I wasn't very prone to do in the least, as I had to pay for sending and retreiving it) so the vendor could try it and replace it (if he found it faulty).
THE ALMIGHTY SOLUTION: for those too eager to stand my babbling this is what worked.
I flashed the bios up to version 7.60 and uninstalled the drivers and used Driver Cleaner. It works without any problems now. I tried it in my other 'test' brand new WinXP install without using Driver Cleaner and it seems that flashing the bios was enough. Although I would recommend using it.
Well, that's all. I thought it could be useful to have all this in one piece.
    Thanks to all that cared.

You guys didn't read the post fully SPAMMERS
He solved his problem by updating the BIOS to the latest version, he has the nVidia Chipset based motherboard and there was a known issue related to the FX series video cards. This is nForce specific.... period

  • Direct 3d problem with my Geforce FX 5900

It won't run any 3d applications and leaves my $3000 computer with the only purpose of complaining on online forums.
I've tried with the original drivers
I've tried with the updated drivers (45.23)
    Here are my system specs:
    Pentium 3.0Ghz w/ 800Mhz bus
    D865PERL Motherboard
    512 PC-3200 Kingston Hyper x RAM
    Audigy 2
    420w power supply
and the MSI Geforce FX 5900 VTD-128

I uninstalled my old nVidia drivers under Control Panel/ Add/Remove Programs...then I ran Driver Cleaner to clean all old drivers off of my system *see the sticky post at the top of the forum page here*...then I turned of the puter took the old card out, put the new card in, started the puter and installed the latest driver from nVidia's website. Worked like a charm!
Yes and a neat little story behind this mouse....
I bought it cause it was awesome I thought, got home, hooked it up, charged it for a night, used it for a week and then it died...so I figured out that the charger wouldn't charge the batteries from the base so I went and bought a separate charger and a few sets of NIMH batteries. Used it for about a month that way then tried to take it back one day to Best Buy where I bought it from. Yea Best Buy alright heheheheh They told me that I hadn't bought the extended warranty for the device and now I'd have to go back to the mfg to get it replaced...so I called Logitech. Got Tech Support on the phone and the guy made me jump thru hoops and stand on my head and all that fun stuff that we do to try to make it work. Then he said well what's your address? I gave it to him. He said you'll have it in a day or two. I said Have what? He says A whole new mouse. I get this puzzled look on my face...I say So should I ship this back when I get the new one? He say Nah keep the old one and enjoy. So now I have the working charging base that has one of the mice in it charging while I use the other one until the red light flashes to tell me it needs to be charged. Then I just take the other one out of the cradle, put the dead one in, push the button on the base, push the button on the bottom of the charged mouse and voila! I'm back in business. And I can do it even if I'm in a game and it doesn't crash my game!! How's that for a success story when all you usually hear here is negative? heheheheh

  • Geforce FX 5900 XT and DOT

I have recently purchased a new MSI Geforce FX 5900 XT 128MB DDR VTD, I have a couple of things which I'm unsure of. First of all if I use DOT along with this card how safe it it. I know its really inviting to overclock but if I use the built in DOT technology of MSI am I violating my warranty?? Also this card is not equipped with any temperature monitoring chip, so if I use DOT and overclock how will I know when my Chip is Overheating??
    Any ideas plz??
    Thanks in advance
    Rajiv

Dot should not void warranty, you can contact MSI and ask them as well.
For the temperature, you need to buy a temperature probe.

  • Geforce FX 5900 Ultra (256) Ram DDR crash

recently my Geforce FX 5900 Ultra (256) Ram DDR has started crashing, i play a game tehn after a while the game freezes and i hear a loud screeching noise that almost deafens me through my headphones my omly option is to then turn off the pc as i can do anything with the computer :( i checked the tem pof the card just in windows normal operation and its 50 degrees celsius is this normal?

Actually that models isn't bad at 20A but a little light considering all the hardware you have, try going barebones without all the PCI cards and the fairy lights.
You didn't post your IRQ shares, and I'd hedge my bets the PCI cards are not in the best slots due to IRQ conflicts. It's a first I've seen of a crash like that but it would not surprise me if it is an IRQ conflict.
Again, remove all PCI devices and reboot a few times, USe the "Reset Configuration Data" setting in the BIOS after you remove each or both PCI cards at boot.

  • Problem with new MSI GeForce FX 5900

Just bought a new MSI GeForce FX 590 TD-128.
I removed previous drivers and video card, installed the new video card and attached the power cable, and booted my machine.
When I boot the machine I get no picture....just a blinking cursor in the top left hand side of the screen.  I thought maybe it was a power supply issue (350W PSW), so I tried installing the video card in another machine with a 400W PSW.   I get the same darn blinking cursor    X(
Anyone have any ideas what causes this?  Do I have a defective card?

Are both those boards AGP 3.0 ??
I have a Soyo Dragon K7V Dragon+ and a ECS K7S5A.  The website for the Soyo board is:
    http://www.soyo.com.tw/products/proddesc.php?id=37
It mentions a Universal AGP Pro Slot and support for AGP 1X/2X/4X...but no mention of AGP 3.0.
    The ECS board is at:
    http://www.ecs.com.tw/products/pd_spec.asp?product_id=192
and only mentions AGP 4X support.
Does the FX 5900 only work on the newer motherboards maybe?
    Quote
If it doesn't work on any board then it might be bad, but 350w and 400w don't mean much so it's also possible you have a power problem.
Both power supplies are made by Antec.  Seems unlikely that neither machine would even boot...but I've seen stranger things
    Ideas?

  • New Geforce FX 5900 messed up

I just upgraded from a Geforce 2mx400 32MB to a MSI Geforce 5900 128MB. After I installed the card, everything seemed fine. I had installed the latest drivers and firmware. But after the computer being on for about five minutes, the screen went all crazy. The screen was just a pattern of small multi-coloured dots and a big block as the mouse.
I tried lowering the core and memory clock speeds to the lowest possible and this seemed to let the computer go longer before the screen went corupt. I could even play a game for a long time with no problems. But If I raised the core/memory speeds higher (still below stock speeds), the video would die.
So I thought this might be a power problem as I had a cheap 350W PSU. So I just installed a Thermaltake 420W. With the core/memory clocks at stock speed I tried to play a game and the video did the same thing, a black screen with multi coloured dots in a pattern.
It is set to AGP 4X, and set in the BIOS at 64MB.
Anyone know why the video crashes even with sufficient power, latest drivers/firmware

I did a lot of searching about the card and from what I've read, the memory doesn't even get very hot and many other makes of the FX5900 don't even use heat sinks on the memory chips.
So would this mean there is something else wrong?
The temp of the graphics chip is well below anything near over heating when this happens.  But from what is happening (working fine at low core/memory speeds) with the screen going to all coloured dots it does hint at overheating.  Weird problem.

  • KT4V + Leadtel GeForce FX 5600 ultra = compatible?

    Hi all,
I would like to know if the Leadteck A310 GeForce FX 5600 Ultra 128 Mo is compatible with a KT4V ver 1.0. The test report of MSI is rather short and does not mention any older card than a GeForce 4 Mx.
I am asking this, because she doesn't boot with a SUMA GeForce 4 Ti 4200 SE 64 Mo. And I mean, when I plug the card in the AGP port, everything is like if I unplug the power cable. I've seen another user on this forum, with the same problem (GeForce 4 Ti 4200 64Mo, but a Siluro), and no solution where found. Even with nothing on it (no proc, no ram, nothing), the card it booting. But as soon as I put the Suma, no reaction. I tried a Geforce 2 MX, and it works just fine.
    Thanks in advance,
    Freeman.

My power supply is a 350 W Enermax dual-fan (don't remember exactly the spec). My old KT3 ultra liked it and never complained about it
I've tried a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 SE 128Mo - 8X. It works perfectly. I really dont know why my old GeForce 4 Ti4200 SE 64Mo- 4X doesn't work. Usualy, when there's a compatibility problem, at least, the system boots (even if it hangs soon after). But here, with the old GeForce, not a move. not even a breath from fans.
So, I decided to buy a new graphic card =  a FX 5600 Ultra. By the way, ATI offers more interesting card, but there are so many compatibility issues that I am afraid to try one... If enough people can assure me I will be safe with an ATI 9600 Pro on a KT4V, I may give it a try.

  • GeForce FX 5900 VTD128 gets blurry?

    hi,
two months ago i replaced my geforce 2mx with the fx5900
using it with two monitors (both crt) on windows xp sp2
i noticed that the first monitor gets blurry from time to time.
now i found out that it happens when the sun javaplugin loads (i think there more applications but this is the first where i'm 100% shure).
if i quit the browser than it goes back to normal sharp view.
it only happens on my first monitor
if i activate for example nvidia keystone, the same strange thing happens.
running a browser with an javaapplet the primary screen gets blurry, changing the resolution for example fixes the problem emideately.
i have tried different driver versions, but its always the same.
i'm not shure if it happens before i updated to servicepack 2
i hope my crappy english is not to hard to understand ;)
    ideas anybody?
    big thx ru

its the whole desktop: icons, text, the taskbar, all windows...
yes, i have adobe products installed (photoshop,illustrator..)
the same result with a clean boot (msconfig=> diagnostig, no autostart programs) and therefore no backgroundapps
    i didn't use any colorprofiles
    monitor settings are ok
also i have tried to find something in the driverdocu - nothing
now, i tested some more things.. and noticed: its the same with games..
    warhammer 40k: dawn of war
    warcraft3
    both running under d3d
maybe something about reinitializing the gpu?
the directx d3d test is to fast to notice some blurry effect
    (using directx9c)
i can't notice suche effects in openglgames ex. quake3 - maybe there isn't such a small text in there
some days ago i tried mayaPLE - seemed to work
    hm..  :(
    more ideas?

  • GeForce FX 5900 drivers causing mouse problems

This is a very strange problem, sometimes my mouse cursor seems to stop moving, but I can still move the mouse aorund and click on things if when I see where it highlights them.  This happens with 3 different mice all the same result 2 the same manufacturer and 1 different it also doens't matter what drivers I use for both mouse and vid card.  I've tried MSI, Nvidia, and Omeaga drivers for the vid card, and tried stock windows, microsoft, and logitech drivers for the corresponding mice.  Now if I let it sit long enough like that it gives me a BSOD that states the problem resides in nv4_mini.sys.  does anyone know anyway around this or should I contact Nvidia directly?  Thanks in advance Ryan

Camaro Guy > Im using a ASUS A7N8X-X motherboard
I thought I may have been my PSU that was not powerfull enough (300W, I have 2 extra 80mm fans installed also) But after seeing that you use a 500W+ PSU, that cant be the problem.
Have you tryed using a older forceware driver ?
And btw, im refuseing to degrade my hw accel. in propeties, might as well have bought a Fx5200
