KT4V-L onboard LAN help

Just got an MSI KT4V (MS-6712) with LAN.
When I first installed it the LAN card was detected on XP.
But now it's not showing up.  Not in the Device Manager or even in the BIOS setup.
I'm not sure what happened; I updated the drivers, installed the MSI utilities, ran Windows Update...but other than that, I'm not sure why its not detecting the LAN card anymore.
Can anyone help?

Looks like you hit the tree, Joe  :(
I think it's gone now. Nothing to do. This problem often occurs on KT4V. It's good that it's new, you can change it at your dealer for free.
Is it still visible in BIOS under PCI Controller? And if you plug in your network cable does the leds flash?

  • KT6V-LSR onboard LAN Help???

I'm having major problems with the onboard LAN on my KT6V-LSR...
Everything was working fine, until I decided to overclocking a little, then problems with the onboard LAN started!!!
Basically when I connect the ethernet wire to the onbaord LAN windows still shows as no connection???
Windows XP recognizes the onboard LAN and I'm able to update drivers, but still no luck regardless of what drivers I use...
I've also tried clearing CMOS and installing a fresh copy of Windows XP and still no luck!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the VIA southbridge takes care of USB, LAN, and audio...   So why is it that my onboard sound and USB works fine but the onboard lan refuese to work???
The green light for the onbaord LAN on the I/O is always lit, is this normal???
I've just bought a PCI network card and it works fine, but the onbard LAN still doesn't work???
I'm thinking it's a defected motherboard, but I do not want to go throught the trouble of RMAing it.
    Any help is welcome...

I've tried taking out the PCI one then disabling the onboard and re-enabling it, but no luck...      It just doesn't work.  Now I'm starting to think it's a bios problem with system standby in S3???  Or perhaps hibernation???
Really, I think I've given up on the onbaord LAN.  Everythings working fine with my PCI networkcard...
So again, thanks guys for contributing on trying to come up with a solution to my onbaord LAN problem...
    Thanks.

    hi there welcome to forum.
Ensure your onboard LAN is turned on from BIOS.
then get LAN drivers(For VIA VT8231/8233/8235/8237 Intergrated LAN Motherboard) and install it from here: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=511&kind=1

  • KT4V-L Onboard lan issue

I just bought this board (two weeks ago) to replace a dead ECS k7s5a and was generally pretty happy with it. But about an hour or so ago the power went out for maybe 10 seconds and when it came back on my onboard lan no longer worked. I've tried everything I can think of I've reinstalled the lan drivers, even did a repair install of Xp to see if that would sort things out but no dice. I've run virus checkers, looked for spywares and generally disabled things that might conflict with it but still no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and how do I get in contact with MSI tech support? I looked all over the site but I couldnt find anything.

Everything is set at stock speed no overclocking, and no generally system instablities. The only thing not working is the lan.

Can you describe more about "power went out" ? The PC shutdown itself or your house has power-surge?
    My suggestion:
    1. clear CMOS, go into the BIOS and set everything back. In case you need more help about this, reply here.
    2. Check your LAN port, unplug/replug the RJ45 cable, you should see some blinking or lit on the LED. You need to enable WOL feature in the BIOS first to check that. If no, it doesn't mean it's faulty yet.
    3. power up your system, did that LAN port LED lit? If yes, it should be still in working condition.

  • KT4V-L Onboard LAN

Is it possible to fit a second network card on this motherboard, without any conflicts?

  • Where is my Onboard LAN?

I recently purchased a KT4V mobo and it says on the box, and in the manual that it has onboard LAN. It even has a LAN cable socket on it and it even says it the manual there should be an option to turn my LAN on and off.
    Guess what!
There is no option in the bios to turn it on or off.
It seems as though the mobo doesnt know it has onboard LAN even though the lights flash when I insert a cable.
I have tried contacting MSI but they are as useful as a condom machine in The Vatican. I have also tried updating EVERYTHING!
    Please Please Help!

    1) Try another cable
    2) Power cycle your broadband modem and any routers/switches/hubs between the modem and the computer.
Does the ethernet controller show up in the Device manager? Have you installed drivers for it? I had 2 systems thawt I couldnt get online, 1 with onboard LAn and 1 with an addon card. I could get all of my other computers online but whenever I plugged in the other they wouldnt work. I called tech support and RMA'd the NIC but the new one wouldnt get online. Someone suggested I reset my modem and 10/100 switch, and when I powered everything back up both systems connected immediatley. Trust me, you dont want to RMA a board with MSI, unless youve got a loaner system for 2 months!!!!

  • MSI 785GM-E51 - onboard LAN not working

    Hello,
I've problem with MSI 785GM-E51 board. Suddenly, when I booted system (Ubuntu) I've noticed that there is no network and even network device (lcpci showed no network devices). Is it possible that the onboard LAN got damaged? I tried to check BIOS and renabled oboard LAN/remove PCI devices/unplug power for a few hours etc but nothing helped. Any suggestions?

    LAN card has worked earlier?
PSU is starting to fail? If things work after several re-boots that may very well be the reason.

  • KT6Delta onboard lan controller freezes machine!

KT6Delta onboard lan controller freezes machine after a recently purchase of new ram.
            TwinMOS PC3200 TwiSTER DDR 512MB CL2
            Chip = WLCSP, (DDR-PC400MHz)
Why i believe the ram purchase is the issue, you say?
Well you see this ram model is not on the supported list on the motherboard information page to msi. allthough the 256mb model is.
so i had to manually configure the DRAM timing so that my computer would run at fsb 166 and ram at 400mhz.
But lets get back on track. Everytime i copy over the network (large files that use top network speed) the machine either freezes or i might get away with a complete network connetcion loss. so i have tried to copy at different speeds and foudn out that 2 mbyte a sec is possible without the computer hanging.
i contacted http://www.broadcom.com support base and they did not know of any simmilar issues regarding the broadcom 57x integrated network hardware. But they did say that my ram might be the issue because the network card sends its DMA packets there.
    and i quote:
"Response from Broadcom: I am afraid this is not a known issue to me.  But if you are saying with the different RAM this problem was not seen, this point directly to the RAM you use on this system and the compatibility issue.  The RAM could for sure cause this type of the problem since the network adapter DMAs packets into and from the system memory (RAM)."
So can anyone help me? i really want to be able to use my network hardware normally and not being forced to sell my current ram chip and buy a new one.
I can't remember all dram timings options but here are those i do remember.
    CL = 2.5 (yes didn't work with 2)
    Row precharge time = 5
    Ras pulse width = 8
Ras to cas delay = 5

What are your temps? Freezing often happens when CPU usage makes it too hot. I believe there is a way to check CPU usage in XP...
CPU temp is around 45-52 depending on what im doing.

I have a hard time convincing myself that the symtom - the LAN - is the cause.
What do you mean? its the ram chip thats the cause for the network freeze (or at least that's where it all is pointing at).

  • Wind PC barebones onboard lan problem

This is my fourth barebones I've built. The onboard lan does not appear to be working. There are no lights at the cable connection and windows says a cable is unplugged. I installed the drivers off the msi disk and device manager reports the adapter as enabled. Any ideas. i am currently using a wireless adapter but am concerned there maybe a mobo problem. Appreciate any help. Thanks

If the port does not light up when you connect a good known working cable, and device manager says the network controller is installed and working, then your network port may be broken, in which case there is not much you can do but RMA the unit for replacement.

  • KT6 (ms7021) Onboard LAN dissapears

    hi, i'm new :P
Got a really strange problem, i have 2 pc's with both a kt6 (ms7021) mainboard. And on both pc's the onboard lan just disappeared after a week.  Drivers are still installed, but windows doesn't see it anymore. you should think...ahh lan disabled in bios. BUT that's the weird part, the disable/enable option is gone!! It used to be above the onboard audio but not anymore.
Hope some one knows what to do, can't contact msi in my country at this time. So i hope you guys can help me

Hm, that sounds unusual! And the connection between the two machines is still there, I guess? Where is the error?!
Try entering Safe Mode, or reinstall your operative system. Hopefully, the hard ware will be re-found and installed. Keep the drivers handy!

  • G31TM-P21 Onboard LAN Wont Work!!!!

I have read. I have searched. I have spent almost a day on this. It has to be easier than this. I had a wireless card. I had to move computer. It doesn't receieve the wireless signal that well anymore. I say "I'll run a cable and use the on board LAN". I bought a new cable. Before I started I checked it (worked properly). Then I disconnected and uninstalled the wireless card. Downloaded the drivers for the mobo LAN (I have no idea where my disk is?).
I have it to the point where the computer is recognizing the PCI-E family controller as the Network adapter but it says the cable is unplugged (it is not and has been triple checked). It also wants to install a PCI device and SMS controller (I can't get these to install at all - it rejects all drivers I throw at it). I have the drivers from MSI. It didn't take them.
    Windows XP SP2
    G31TM-P21 mobo
in Set up I have on board LAN enabled and LAN ROM enabled
PCI-e graphics card (I don't remember which one and I'm too frustrated to go look)
Am I missing something simple?? I usually can solve all my computer problems after this amount of time. I'm severely frustrated (this typing did help though). If I need to post more info let me know.
I need to go take a walk.

I'll check the cable again. But I still can't get past this phantom PCI device it is finding. So when I switched to onboard LAN it found 1.) PCI-e Family 2.) SMS Controller and 3.) PCI device. I have gotten the drivers to taken for items 1 and 2 (I found the install disk) but for the life of me I can't get the third thing (the phantom PCI) to install. It is not giving me any clues what i need either.
I'll try again tonight but any help wouldbe appreciated.
I did this on one of other computers last year and all I had to do was change it in the BIOS. No install. No drivers needed. Why is this so complicated.

  • Onboard Lan - Speed - 10mbit only

    -------------------
I replied with this same post a thread of another user which had the same problem, but rcvd no answer...
    Hi.
My problem is that i want it to work at 100mbit, but i can only work at 10 now.
    I'm experiencing this:
I poweroff the computer, When i turn it on the 100mbit light turns on, but:
When any OS starts (win98, winxp, win2000) the 100mbit light dissapears and the
    10mbit keeps turned.
I tested this trouble with clean installs of windows 98, windows xp, windows 2000
and i experienced the same in all these.
The lan cable is the best quality, category 5, built & tested with proffessional tools.
The switch is a dlink 10/100, etc. etc.
I send u the details of my motherboard, drivers & versions
Mother kt2 Combo VIA kt 266A
    MS-6764 (v1.x) ATX Mainboard
(I saw the manual but the onboard lan speed is not specificated, why!)
I have an AMD Athlon XP 1.8+
    I have 256mb ram
    I have a nvidia gfoce 2 mx 440 agp
I run Windows XP SP1 mostly
The version of the onboard lan driver is 3.13.0.348
I bought 15 PCs like this, i'll build an icafe store.
I must solve this speed problem because I must open the local soon..
Please help me. What could i do to know which is the problem?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
PLEASE SERIOUS ANSWERS, Ill become mad with a "lol"...

    hi ppl.
As this forum has not file uploading enabled, I send the link of the patch my tech guys sent me by mail.
    I uploaded to my site.
    http://www.guiahot.com.ar/mails/6764_lan_patch.zip
Not tested yet, and theoretically available in msi.com.tw's website.
I'll send another post after succeeding with it.
my Techs told me they tested it in Windows XP.

  • Internet Connection Sharing with onboard LAN

    Hi
Does anyone know if it's possible to setup Internet Connection Sharing using the onboard LAN?  I've managed to get shared files and folders working, but can't get internet access on the client PC.
    Using the K8MM3-V
Windows XP Pro on both PC's
    I have 3 NIC's I can use.
The Host PC is using the onboard LAN to connect to the internet
I'm using a Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC in both the host and client PC's
The Host PC also has a NETGEAR FA312 Fast Ethernet Adapter (Currently disabled)
I'm using crossover cable and 2 NIC's method.
I don't have a hub, switch or router.
I've had it working before on Windows 2000 Pro, but can't remember how I did it.  (I think it just all worked straight away).
Anyonew knows if this is possible, please let me know.
    Thanks

  • Master-2 far gigabyte lan help!

Hi everyone this is my first post so I apologise if it’s a long one but I really need the help from msi support team, my problem is as follows.  Im currently running
    Master-2 far with 2 opterons 246 @ stock speed
6800 GT underclocked to power saving mode
    2gb transcend registerd ram
    2 300gb sata drives
    2 80gb 7200/8mb drives
    All watercooled
Running windows Xp service pack 2
The problem I have been having is getting the NeteXtreme gigabyte lan to connect to anything I have another basic computer and an xbox and have been unsuccessful in getting the lan on the master-2 far to connect properly I always get the Limited or no Connectivity error message even thou the LED inside the case lights up indicating that the lan is functioning or at least activated.
on my xbox it says line statues is 100/full duplex which is good but no ip address is assigned even thou I have assigned a static one on the xbox itself.  My second computer simply has no ip address and just sits there also even when I give both systems a static ip still nothing happens.  I have made sure that I am running the latest version of the lan drivers that I could find on msi’s support page and am running all the Microsoft updates available for my system.
The funny thing is the reason why I know it’s the gigabyte lan is because when I install my previous lan card made by 3com the thing registers and everything is fine its just that because I have now installed all my video editing stuff I no longer have the space pci slot for my old lan card so I must fix the onboard lan some how.  Thanx for any help received.

Hi Bas done a little bit of testing since your last suggestions I have unplugged the jpwr2 connection as suggested and it seems to not make any difference but on the good side I have been able to connect to both my spare computer and my xbox on both partitions of windowsXp one of which is running service pack 2 the only problem I seem to be having now is that I cannot get full duplex enabled no matter what I do.
Working lan settings for both instillations of winXp are:
    80.1p QOS = Disabled
    Checksum Offload = Tx/Rx TCP/IP Checksum
    Ethernet @Wire speed = Enable
    Flow Control = Auto
    Large send offload = Enable
    Locally administerd address = nothing
    Speed & Duplex = 100mb Full
    Wake up capabilities = Both
    WOL = 100mb
I have noticed that if I set the IP address of the card to manually configure itself it will be unsuccessful in doing so and result in the error message corrupt or bad Ip that leads to the limited or no connection error, so I assign it a static IP to prevent this.  Also if I set the speed and duplex setting to auto this will result in no connection with the errors stated above so I have a choice of anything but that, even 100mb full duplex but still only half duplex is the line speed that is overall selected regardless.  Im slowly getting there is there anything that you can suggest in relation to the options stated above that should be turned on ect I have one last idea which is to install the old drivers that came with the board because I am currently using the ones from the online support download centre.
