Kt4v motherboard

?(
Can anyone help me?
I am currently building a new pc for the first time using a MSI KT4V motherboard, 1.3 AMD duron Processor, heatsinc and 128 Crucial memory.  I connected all the relevant connectors but with no response when plugged in.   I tested the power unit that works fine.   Does anyone have any suggestions what may be at fault?
Many thanks
Andy

You might also want to check,
PS connection to the mobo, or even the metal clips/stand offs between the board & The case, make sure they don't "touch" the mobo directly.

  • Restart problem with kt4v motherboard

I have a kt4v motherboard with an athlon xp2600 processor and the whole computer just randomly reboots and then when it gets to the xp load screen(after bios set up) it rebbots again and again. can anybody tell me whats happening and how to sort it out?

The only way to find an answer is knowing much more about your PC: Video card ? Memory ? Power source ? O.S. ? Peripherals ? Heat sink ? and so on. Look at your Power Source about teh dif. Volts-Amp it gives and the brand. 8)

  • MSI Ti4800SE and MSI KT4V motherboard incompatible?

Yesterday I bought an MSI Ti4800SE to replace a GeForce2. It booted up fine and Windows detected it and installed the drivers. However, on rebooting, the monitor went blank and there was a series of beeps.
The computer would not start. I tried taking out all the other cards and tried the video card in 2 other computers but all I got was the beeps. I took the card back and got a refund as they had no more in stock.
Is the video card incompatible with the motherboard for some reason? Did I somehow cause the card to die? Should I buy another or will the same thing happen again?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    My system is
    MSI KT4V motherboard
    Athlon 2500
    512Mb Kingston RAM
    SB Live
    Network card
    56k Modem
    2 hard drives
    DVD ROM
    Mitsumi CD writer
    350W PSU
    Windows 98SE
    Thanks in advance

Thanks very much for your advice - looks like I need to spend yet more money then!
But do you think I damaged the card by not supplying enough current, bearing in mind that it booted OK the first time? Or was it not damaged at all?

  • MSI KT4V Motherboard not recognizing my FX5200

I just started building an old computer for a friend. Im taking parts from two older computers and putting them into one. Im taking my friends processor, hard drive, dvd drive, floppy, and ram. Im putting that into my old PC case with my old geforce fx 5200, my old MSI KT4v Ms-6712 ver:1 AGP 8x motherboard. I used to use that old case with that motherboard and video card and it worked fine. Now all the sudden, possible from moving the motherboard from different PCs and such, when i put everything into the case it all seemed to work fine. Except that I'm not even getting a signal from my video card. I have a 350watt power supply that i know is sufficient enough, but my monitor isn't getting a signal from the video card. I tried using an old geforce 2 from a friends PC to test it and it doesn't work in that PC either, so i've ruled out it being a problem with the video card, because my fx5200 works fine in my other friends PC.  ??? I'm wondering if their is a problem with my motherboards AGP slot not being able to detect my FX 5200. I know that moving a different processor to a new motherboard requires the reinstallation of windows, but i should be getting something on the monitor.  Any suggestions or helpful information would be nice. I've searched the internet and google for quite some time and i havn't found any helpful information about possible broken AGP slots or the motherboard not even getting a signal through the AGP card. Help would be nice-  If i left out any important information please let me know, thanks

Well, heres what i tried to do. I tried clearing the cmos. Going by these instructions
    1-touch PSU to clear static
    2-remove the motherboard battery
    3-switch Jbat1 jumper from 1-2 to 2-3
    4- wait atleast 10 minutes
    5-switch jumper back
    6-reinsert the battery
    7-boot up etc.
I did all that but still no luck. The screen was still blank when i booted it up. I didn't unplug everything before resetting CMOS(by that i mean the harddrive, floppy, and DVD, but i did unplug it from wall and everything), because it didn't say to in a MSI support page. I did try to boot up with the barebones setup though after resetting cmos but still no luck. Just the CPU/heatsink, motherboard, one stick of ram, and video card. Still nothing happening on the screen. I do have an extra power supply and im going to try putting that in next. The one that is currently in there was used in my friends PC and was working fine. Ill give my larger power supply a try though. Ill post back later about if the power supply did anythiing or not. Thanks
p.s.-Before you mentioned the standoffs and im going to look under the motherboard as well to see if their are too many or too little. The testing continues....

  • KT4V Motherboard..never again!

Number 2 AMD Athlon XP 2400 chip, as first one had a problem and the LED Diagnostic on the Bluetooth module indicated lite up all four LEDs red.  So it was sent back to AMD and replaced with another, the replacement is seated in the socket well, the HSF is a Coolermaster with a copper core and the thermal compound in Artic Silver 2.  Still will not POST.  I am so fustrated with AMD and MSI right now that I'm to the point where I will never purchase another MSI or AMD product ever again.  This is ridiculous!

Thanks for the reply, your right, there might be a problem with the board, that did occur to me, but like you I've used MSI boards in at least 100 systems in the past 3 years and never had a problem with any one of them.  And this is the first DOA CPU that I've ever received as well.
I wouldn't be so distraut about this if it wasn't for the fact that I'm building this for someone else that is an Intel fan!
"Have you given thought to the fact that the CPU isn't giving the problem, but that the board might be? I never ever had a dead CPU in my entire life.
I'm very pleased with AMD/MSI combo, have it for several years now, had some DOA's but such things happen. Also with other brands."

  • Motherboard not geting past MSI logo display - please help me if you can

    Hello all
I have recently purchased a motherboard kit from a very respected retailer so all my components are compatible. It consisted of an MSI KT4V motherboard, an AMD Sempron 2600, a stick of 256MB DIMM, and a heatsink. I have installed them all as best to my knowledge but on booting up for the first time all I am getting is what looks to be an MSI logo screen. I have changed the jumper switches and tried other things but I am unable to get to the BIOS or anything.
Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone know of any methods I could take to try and resolve it ?
    Thanks

    Hello again.
First can I just say thanks to everyone who has posted a reply to me here. I have brought my motherboard manual in for any specifications that is needed, unfortunately my power supply is back at my flat but it came with a chassis I bought from a different company. I know it's 400w if that's any consolation.
Please understand that I am unable to get anywhere near BIOS - literally as soon as I power it up the power light comes on, you can hear the hard drives whirring, the DVD ROM spins, etc. but almost instantly an MSI logo is displayed on the screen and from there I can;t do anything. I am not given the chance to do anything before. Hitting Del does nothing, in fact the keyboard doesn;t even light up at all when I switch my computer on, almost as if it doesn;t recognise it or it doesn;t get as far as reading it or something. Surely there can;t be a problem with my graphics card as I'm guessing I wouldn't be able to see the dreaded MSI logo. I reseated most stuff like the RAM and swapped IDE cables etc. and that seems fine. I am really getting sick of seeing that infernal MSI logo screen !!

  • HELP::KT4V Can't detect my LTR-24102B

I just bought my KT4V motherboard. it cant detected my Liteon LTR-24102B cd-rw, it displayed Not detected/Not Installed(forgot which one). I tried to force it as CD/DVD in BIOS, it take age to boot and finally displaed ATAPI incompatible.
    I tried both Cable Select/Master+Slave.
Besides, i then plug into IDE 1,2 or 3. Still the same.
I tried using 80-pin for it too. No luck either.
For my old computer it immediately detect its model,
buy for this mobo, nothing i detected.
    How to make it work?
    My Comp:
    AthlonXP 1800+
    mobo KT4V(w/o LAN, BIOS 1.50)
    MAXTOR 20GB, 40GB.
    Geforce2 MX AGP,
    Motolora SM56 PCI,
    ASUS CD-ROM S340
    Liteon LTR-24102B cd-rw(firmware 5s5a)

I have searched through the forum for that topic.
But i can't find the solution for it.  I have try their method: using 80 pin IDE cable, clearing cmos, try different IDE lead...etc
    but it doesn't work.
It work once, i dono why. I work just after i switching the plug fr. kt4v to old, old to kt4v(keyboard mouse monitor phone line) with older firmware 5S54
But when i did another switch it doesn't work again, with the above firmare also.
    It's strange...
    Any advice?
Correction: KT4V don't have IDE 3. sorry for my typing mistake.

  • KT4V mobo - how do I get the best out of my AMD chip

    Hi
I have an MSI KT4V motherboard...
I recently bought an AMD XP3000+ Barton processor....
(which I have checked the serial number etc and as is one that runs at 333Mhz)
THEN I realised the processor is only running at about 1.3Mhz instead of 2.167Mhz...  and I was told that I need to replace my RAM with some that runs at 333Mhz
At the moment, my FSB runs as standard at 100, and I can tweak it to abotu 110. BUT if I try to run it at 166 (which it should be at forthis processor) the system crashes ... presumably ecause the RAM I have can't cope (the old RAM is not 333mhz)
ANY HELP.... please...  IF I simply buy some PC2700 (333Mhz) memory, will that make it possible to set the FSB at 166, and get my processor running at full speed??
    cheers
    Phil

Hi - thanks for that...I don't know quite why I had probs with the BIOS before...
I have 266 memory...so have indeed set the FSB in BIOS to 133, and it's fine, showing CPU running at 1700mhz as expected ... and so yes I'm off to buy some 333mz memory, so I can crank FSB up to 166 and get my CPU running at 2.1Ghz
    Cheers
    Phil

    MSI Geforce 4 440mx 64mb gfx card
    MSI DVD Rom Drive
    Lite-on 16/10/40 CDRW Drive
    Internal 56k modem
    Power supply spec:
    Output 350w

    -5V     0.5A
    -12V    0.8A
    INPUT:  115/230V ~, 6/4A   60/50HZ
This is really cheesing me off, i have disabled APIC as suggested elsewhere in the forums, Bios has been upgraded to 1.8.
in the bios the processor is running at 48 oC..
please help as this is driving me mad

I have no clue as to what steps your doing to load your OS but if you have a Win98 startup cd run fdisk then try formatting the drive ...Then choose to start from cd option to load you OS. Also make sure virus boot detection is disabled in Bios before doing anything.

  • KT4V POWERING DOWN AND BEEPING

    Hello
Can anyone help me? i have just bought a MSI KT4V motherboard and installed it with a AMD ATHLON 1900+
My problem is when i come to boot it and load windows it kills the power to the board and makes a nee narr sound like a police car until i switch it off at the mains. I cant find out why its doing this and there seems to be no mention of reasons for this noise in the manual.
    Please help.
    KT4V motherboard
    AMD ATHLON 1900+
Nivida Geforce 2 mx400 video card
    fujitsu 40gb hdd
    Thanks in advance
    Rodney. :(

I checked my cpu fan and found it to be on the wrong way round. Now when i power on the D bracket  shows 4 red leds and stops there.
Looks like i might have cooked my cpu.
Will this have done any more damage other than to the cpu? ?(

  • MSI KT4V with usb+bios problem!

hi i have an msi kt4v motherboard: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/m...ODEL=MS-6712...
and it wont startup my keyboard until windows loads.
i even updated my bios to the vary latest one....in the bios list there is a bios with this details:
BIOS Type AMI® BIOS File Size 514KB
    Version 1.7 Update date 2002-12-26
Update Description -Support AMD Barton XP2800+ (FSB333) CPU
-Fixed system sometimes will have IDE CRC error
-Fixed D-bracket2+USB keyboard, cannot use keyboard on DOS mode.
    Special note ,
    Download 6712v17.exe
that suppose to fix my prob. its not the latest though, the latest is 1.8. i updated to 1.8 directly, i didnt upgrade from 1.7 though, but from an earlier version. is anyone else experiencing this problem? whats strange is that it will work if i clear the cmos and reboot. but then if i restart it wont work. do i have to upgrade to 1.7 then to 1.8?

I have the same problem too.  My keyboard\'s cable failed and I replaced it but made it USB only, after the later bios releases it stopped working until windows loaded.
Legacy support is turned on to no avail.  I've been keeping a ps/2 keyboard handy for when I have to get into bios or some other command level operation.

  • KT4V and heatsink compatibility

    Hi, only a question:
Is the MSI KT4V motherboard compatible with large heatsinks like the Volcano 12 (82x65.6mm), Silent Boost (82x70mm) or 80x80mm heatsinks ?
    Thanks.

    Thanks Roderick for your help
Hopefully it fits then. It arrives tomorrow. whihc is good.
I saw that website too but   I cant understand it lol. Does have Kt4V tho
Umm anyone else got that motherboard and heatsink.
    Cheers again Roderick

  • High-Low Alarm on KT4V

    Just got a KT4V motherboard, with Athlon XP2100, 256MB PC2700 SDRAM.
Everything runs fine for an hour or so, and then the PC abruptly turns off accompanied by a high/ low alarm sound which continues until I unplug from mains and restart.
I am assuming this is a high temp shut down, but can find no mention of it in the manual/ website to confirm this, and the temp monitor is reporting only 40 degrees.
    Any one got any suggestions?

    Thanks for your thoughts.
I checked the cooler, which was located correctly (hopefully gone passed that level of mistake now), but noticed, as I picked up the PC to have a look, it truned off again with the alarm going.
Rebooted, tapped the PC on the top, alarm goes of. Does the motherboard have a state of the art anti theft movement sensor built into it? I was beginning to think to myself.
So, rebuilt PC thinking stay screw got under the motherboard causing it to short or that sort of thing, but same problems afterwards, so I replaced the power supply and now everything is working OK.
Stange thing is though, the power supply works fine in another PC with similar spec (but non-MSI) motherboard, no mattger how hard you bang it!
    Thanks for help anyway.

  • Help kt4v amd 3200+

i have just bought a AMD Athlon XP 3200+ 2.2 Ghz 400FSB 512K will it work with my kt4v motherboard or do i need a new board
    AMD XP2600+
    1.5gig  PC2600 Kingston
    MSI KT4V
    NVIDIA GFORCE 440MX
    2= 120 GIG SEAGATE ULTRA
    2= 160 GIG SEAGATE ULTRA
    SONY 4X DUR-500ADVD WRITER
    LG 8X DVDRAM GSA-4081B
    SONY DVD ROM DDU1621
    550W JSP Sprite PSU
    Windows MEDIA EDITION

give it a try and you'll see (you bought it,after all,no?), their official cpu-supported cpu is rather boring ...., they rarely say something about mobiles, which are supported by bios (half-way, but run fine), btw: you should be at least able to boot it, cause you'll start @ 100 mhz fsb .....
(why they tell you it's not supported? cause pci/agp devices will have to run @ higher speed than their specification => 200 mhz fsb with divider 5 => 40 mhz instead of 33 (agp 80) - as I just wrote hour ago somewhere else on this forum, some devices can take it.,but for example some cheapo soundcards cannot...., I have not measured that gf4 mx440, but I eventually will ...)
but you must be kidding about your memory speed rating : 2600 => get real, for 400 MHZ cpu you'll need 3200 or better (as kt4v has just 333 fsb, it may juggle the memory timings high up on some fsb setting ..... (no problem running memory on 400 within 333 range :-) )
and just one note about mem: as you have the 1.5gig, the board won't allow ram to have 400 mhz setting, as it's supported just for one module inserted, so you'll get your ram running @ about 433 mhz around fsb set to 200 mhz -> and this may be the reason why you won't boot @ 200 fsb
just note that if you manage to boot, check if the board is feeding the cpu with the right voltage ... it should, as the codes are standartized for the whole cpu line, but this may be a little critical, if whatever .....
