KT4V Problems with 133 FSB

I've got a question about this board. The version I have is an OEM board, I have 1 major problem with it I have tried EVERYTHING i have read in the forums about it and nothing works. I can not get the board to run at the 133 FSB i have a AMD Tbird 1.33Ghz chip with the 266 FSB If i set my Bios to 130 FSB i can run at 1300 Mhz fine but when i go to 133FSB it just sits there and loops the Starting XP screen Here are my sys specs
AMD 1.33 Tbird
Thermaltake Valcano 7+ Running on the higest fan speed.
MSI KT4V Mainboard
PNY Geforce 4 Ti4200 8X Agp card
600W Powersupply Robertron I believe
1 60 Gig Maxtor HD
1 60 Gig Samsung HD
1 Aopen 20x CDRW Drive
1 Stick of Kingston PC2100 256 DDR ram
1 Stick of IBM PC2100 256 DDR ram
I have tried it with each stick alone and each stick in different places everytime
I am Running Windows XP Pro SP1 Installed and useing all the latest Drivers for the Vid, Built in Lan and Audio. Also the Latest Bios update 1.7 nothing seems to make this board run at 133FSB Any help would be greatly thanked.

OK now I know its not my Heatsink or anything else on my system I know it is this board. I removed Everything execpt 1 hard drive put a old 4 meg PCI video card in and REmounted my HS and CPU and it took me 5 reboots just to get the board to post, after that i set it to the proper 133 FSB and got a NTDRL error changed it back to 100 FSB and it frooze 3 times before finally working After this experence I will Diffently NEVER buy a MSI board this board has been nothing but a headache from the start I will stick by my old faithful ABIT from this day foward..... Anyone wanna buy a slightly used MSI KT4V ??  :D

  • MSI KT4V problem with DDR400

I have a look about product description of MSI KT4V, that I own
and there is a limititation of some DDR400 modules. I wish to upgrade my APACER 512MB 266MHZ CL2 to higher frequency, but I have still doubt if I should buy only 333Mhz. - because in my PC store they are selling only APACER and AM1 memory modules.

I don't think you read my post properly.
The SBLive works fine when I have my old HDD in the computer with all the old settings, but when I removed the old HDD and put in the new one with a completely brand new installation of everything (I even had to partition & format the drive), the damn thing stops working.
As for 4.48v being the problem, it is unlikely, because that was the drivers I had installed on the old HDD and they worked A-Ok.
    Please re-read my post.

  • P35 Neo2 FR reset problem with high FSB

    Hi,
after trying some OC at 3.2ghz (vcore 1.2500 (+0.0125)) 400x8; DDR/FSB 1:1 >>DDR800 (all RAM timing at default, vram at def) I noted that when I press ctrl+alt+del during boot or in a boot manager(specific or windows boot mngr) the pc do not restart normaly but power off and after ~2-3 sec restart (as in a fake boot or as when it check the bios setting after a mod).
After some investigation (tried some frequency with x8 CPU multiplier, and RAM mult. 1:1) I discover that at FSB>370mhz the pc start to make the reset as said over.(it also power down and restart as said when I mod the FSB over 370 and then save in the bios, but this do not happen when I mod FSB under 370)
AH! I moved the jumper on MB for the FSB to 333.(because if I don't with FSB over 382 it change NB and SB voltage).
After booting the os start as normal and I've done and succeded S&M test (so cpu should not be the problem, RAM also tested with that settings and seems ok(2xmemtest 700%))
Is this normal?Someone has this problem? Is this maybe because FSB is over specification?
    Thanks

    Hello Viktor92,
unless this happens again and more frequently, I would simply attribute the problem to a confused BIOS (as a CMOS Reset seems to have solved the problem asap).  Just watch your system and the Clock Speeds a little to check if that happens again.  If it does not, there was most probably no serious problem behind it.
Hello Jack, the system is working perfect after many cold boots, setting the FSB at 334 mhz as it should. Two weeks ago I was fighting with a cheap internal carry disk that made poor contact (I'm trying vista ultimate 64) and I've made many forced shutdowns when I saw that the bios didn't find the disk. In one of the reboots the system started telling me that a previous overclocking has failed, then I've checked the bios parameters and saved it, but after this event I get two BSOD, and the FSB started to show an incorrect frecuency value, so maybe that was the cause that the bios gets "confused" as you said.

    Hello guys, freshblood is here,
I change fsb in Dual core center, but unfort.  core temp and CPUZ don't reflect any changes.

I agree.  The BIOS gives you better control with better options.

Dumb MSI Dual Core Center.  It is not the best tool ever developed.  Use the BIOS for overclocking your system.

Also when i flash my bios after i says backup and i type y then it backs it up it will say directory not found or something, anyone got a solution, see if i dont need or need to flash bios and how to get it working?

  • IDE problems with KT4V-L?

Hi, I am trying to resolve a long standing problem with regards to cd/dvd drive issues - both with reading and burning. I have had a system based around the KT4V-L mobo for about 3 years now and about 2 years ago I started experiencing problems with my msi cdrw drive- problems reading and burning discs, both blank and written. I tried various possible solutions i.e. new cable, different ide placement, firmware upgrade, different burning software, via drivers, various WXP tweaks, mobo bios upgrade/tweaks, even a fresh XP install (vanilla xp pro) but nothing would stop me churning out coasters. I then thought that the drive itself must be faulty and swapped it for a new one only to have exactly the same problem. I limped on for a good while (everything else works just fine) until dual layer dvd burners got cheaper and decided to swap my cdrw for a samsung dl dvdrw. Still same problems... especially with dvds. Another fresh install of WXP pro (sp2) has yielded no improvement nor has trying mandrake linux (ver. 10). Anyhoo, my thinking now is that there may be a fault with the onboard ide controller although my HDD has always worked fine... As I said before, I have tried all the different placements/settings with regards to ide connections/cables/jumpers and bios settings.
Sorry to bang on for so long but it has been driving me slowly mad for a good while   Any help gratefully received as I am on the verge of binning the mobo and just buying a new (different) one...

Thanks for the response osnavi, the first cdrw drive was well under a year old when I changed it and had only had light to medium use. I agree that the power supply could be better but the fact remains that everything worked perfectly for the first year-ish. At that time I actually had another dvd drive alongside the cdrw with no problems until this issue arose- I then had to physically remove the dvd drive to get the cdrw working at all. I currently have my HDD as primary master and the dvdrw as secondary master but as I said previously I have tried all the various settings available. The HDD is running in ultra dma mode 6 and the dvdrw is ultra dma mode 2 - I did have to reset this as WXP had demoted it to PIO mode only, presumably due to multiple errors... Re. the power supply issue, is it possible that the system ran fine for a year (with slightly more load due to the extra dvd drive) and then just b0rked out? I have had no other issues at all with this system and I am a fairly application heavy user (photoshop, quark, fps games etc). Is it also possible that the upgraded bios may have caused the problem as I did flash it from the original OTB bios to version 1.9 as directed by the msi live update system?
    Thanks again for your interest.

  • Problems with KT4V and AtiRadeon 9700 Pro...

    Hi all,
I have lots of problems with my current configuration with games (lock ups) and even in normal use. Also I'm not able to run 3DMark through to see with kind of results would I get. Car chase (high) gets very low fps and the nature test doesn't even work. I have tried different 4in1 drivers and BIOS versions. With 1.6 BIOS version I had lots of CRC errors (should be corrected in BIOS ver. 1.7 but in expense of data rate?).  Does anyone have any suggestions so that I could for example go through the 3DMark even with the expense of performance?
I had those game lock up problems also earlier with KT7A-100 RAID + AtiRadeon 64 (3DMark worked) so I bought new graphic card (didn't help) and after that I bought the new mobo. I know my config is not the best in the world, but I think it should be enough to give some happy moments in ever so demanding games... for a while...
There is also one thing that is quite strange. In my display adapters there is two drivers for AtiRadeon (primary in AGP and secondary in PCI)? I'm not expert, but isn't that weird? I have tried installing different drivers again and again (also reinstalled OS) with no luck! Trying to delete the secondary one doesn't help...
    Help..........!

  • Kt4v possible problem with bios 1.8 and hd

Any Idea anyone with this one.
system running well till the other day when hd went very slow even after defrag, install bios 1.8 and reset the bios and adjusting it for my setup. Come to check my harddrive with maxtor powerdiag 3.04 and could not find the drive or any other drives connected. In the bios setup the drive is present. I removed all drives, cdroms, etc except the maxtor main hd and tried again with the same result. After placing in an ata100 controller card in to a spare pci slot and plugged the hd on to it, that the software sees the drive. The test finished and show the HD to be fine.
The question is do I have a problem with the onboard contoller or with the new bios or both.
When I first got this MB I did the same test with the original bios and the hd connected to the MB controller and the software had no problem seeing that and other drive connected.

I'll stick with the V1.10, but I'd fell better if MSI showed me they actively update their systems by releasing updated BIOS files from time to time.
I can't sell a 15000$ storage system that doesn't recognise the CPUs installed. The customer would laugh and tell me to come back with a supported system.
Isn't this a VERY valid reason for wanting updates? Even if it only is an updated CPU list?
The only reason I tried this MSI board is that it was the only one available with my retailer at the time I bought it with 3 PCI-X 100Mhz slots. Maybe I should go with a Tyan Thunder next time. Tyan at least show some activity.

    Hello,
Download this prgram and use it to test the memory.
    http://www.memtest.org/download/1.55.1/memtest86+-1.55.1.floppy.zip
Extract all files to a folder first then run the install.bat and it will create a memtest bootdisk.
Again using 1 stick at a time run the program for at least 1 hour.
Any errors means that there is a problem with the memory/power.
Should everything be ok then try clearing the CMOS using the Jbat jumper.
Also the CPU should be running at 1.667Ghz (133x12.5).

  • Fsb problem with Neo4 Ultra

I have been having a problem with my neo4 ultra that seems to be pretty common.
I can not boot past a fsb of 219 reliably.
    My system is
    AMD64 3200+
    MSI K8N Neo4 nForce4 Ultra
    Wavemaster Case
OCZ Gold Series Dual 1GB DDR PC-3200
    Thermalright XP-90
    OCZ ModStream 520W
    Sapphire Radeon X800 XL
I am doing it all with clockgen to up my FSB to find the best results. I am on 1.24 BIOS
    My Basic BIOS settings are
    FSB = 219
    HTT = 4x
Mem at 166 Voltage at 2.85
    Mem Timmings at 2.5-3-2-8 1T
    CPU 10x startup - cpu-z reports voltage at 1.58
Rasied FSB by 5 at a time to 251 and super pi failed.
Changed vcore to 1.60 and the best I could get super pi to run at was 247. So I decided to start fine tunning my memory.
    I set mem to 180 2.5-3-3-10-1T
Used clockgen again and what was interesting was FSB of 255 passed with a superpi of 34 sec. Now it failed at fsb258.
Changed mem timmings to 200 2.5-3-3-10-1T
And best I could get was fsb=230 and superpi failed. I decided to keet the 180 divider and see how far I can drop the timming at 180.
So I ended up at this
    FSB =251
    HTT 4x
    Mem 180 2-3-2-8 1T volts = 2.85
    CPU 10x Volts cpu-z reports 1.63
Runs prime stable all night at these settings.
But here is the thing if I go into the BIOS and change fsb to 221 My machine will not boot.
I am guessing the power up sequence is wrong in the BIOS

I cannot boot at over FSB 219, either. Will overclock fine with Clockgen when in XP (have tried up to 270 fsb, and the CPU will run 2574mhz at 1.5). But have to reset bios if I set the FSB over 219, regardless of memory HTT, vcore, etc , settings. I've been watching other forums and have seen MANY people with the same problem. One of the things I have in common with a lot of other people with this problem is that my Winnie 3500+ Retail will not run much over stock with the low vcore that this board gives as default. I have used Core Center, Sisoft Sandra 2005, and CPUz 1.27 to check vcore once in windows. All of them show 1.36 for vcore. That's lower than default of 1.4. And when I set the vcore for 1.55 and the overvoltage thingy to highest percentage in bios, all the monitoring apps show 1.526, which is waaay lower than it should be (1.67). Now, I will concede that the monitoring apps could be wrong. But, I believe the 219mhz POST issue is due to the start up vcore and multiplier is PROBABLY default at post. So, if your FSB is set for more than the CPU will run at it's default vcore and multiplie + set FSB, then the board freezies at POST. If the bios would just boot at whatever you set into the bios, then there wouldn't be a problem, unless yoiu have set thingswaay too high. Then it would just do what it does now, not POST, and you would have to reset the bios. There are a lot of Winchester core CPU's out there that will run high mhz at default voltages. But, there are a lot of newer Winnie's that won't. Mine is one of them.
Now it seems that there is a limitation on the board of 1.55 vcore with a Winnie. Even using the overvoltage setting. What is that all about? You put overclocking friendly on the retail box, on the product page on the main site, and all the review sites say overclocking potential is graet, and then you limit the vcore to 1.5v? Crazy logic (or should I say "Fuzzy Logic")   I am close to eBaying this board (only had it 2 - 3 days, but won't send it back to ZZF for replacement as all of them could have the same problem) and go with the DFI or the Abit Fatality.
Am I saying all this right?
