KT4V with DDR400

Has anyone managed to get a KT4V to work with the AMD XP2600 (FSB 333) and a single stick of 512MB DDR400 RAM? On my PC the memory is reported as only 333MHz with the auto setting. If I change the settings manually to 400MHz then it becomes unstable.

Hi,
I also have a simmilar problem concerning this 400 MHZ DDR.
Currently I have one dimm of 256 MB running @ 400 MHZ. I would like to ad a second dimm of 256 MB.
Ofcourse I would like this to run also @ 400 MHZ.
I had a reply that it is possible to run two dimms of 256 MB to run  @ 400 MHZ DDR.
I checkt the manual, and can't find any explenation about running 512 MB in one dimm @ 400 MHz  ?(

  • MSI KT4V problem with DDR400

I have a look about product description of MSI KT4V, that I own
and there is a limititation of some DDR400 modules. I wish to upgrade my APACER 512MB 266MHZ CL2 to higher frequency, but I have still doubt if I should buy only 333Mhz. - because in my PC store they are selling only APACER and AM1 memory modules.

I don't think you read my post properly.
The SBLive works fine when I have my old HDD in the computer with all the old settings, but when I removed the old HDD and put in the new one with a completely brand new installation of everything (I even had to partition & format the drive), the damn thing stops working.
As for 4.48v being the problem, it is unlikely, because that was the drivers I had installed on the old HDD and they worked A-Ok.
    Please re-read my post.

  • MSI KT4V with usb+bios problem!

hi i have an msi kt4v motherboard: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/m...ODEL=MS-6712...
and it wont startup my keyboard until windows loads.
i even updated my bios to the vary latest one....in the bios list there is a bios with this details:
BIOS Type AMI® BIOS File Size 514KB
    Version 1.7 Update date 2002-12-26
Update Description -Support AMD Barton XP2800+ (FSB333) CPU
-Fixed system sometimes will have IDE CRC error
-Fixed D-bracket2+USB keyboard, cannot use keyboard on DOS mode.
    Special note ,
    Download 6712v17.exe
that suppose to fix my prob. its not the latest though, the latest is 1.8. i updated to 1.8 directly, i didnt upgrade from 1.7 though, but from an earlier version. is anyone else experiencing this problem? whats strange is that it will work if i clear the cmos and reboot. but then if i restart it wont work. do i have to upgrade to 1.7 then to 1.8?

I have the same problem too.  My keyboard\'s cable failed and I replaced it but made it USB only, after the later bios releases it stopped working until windows loaded.
Legacy support is turned on to no avail.  I've been keeping a ps/2 keyboard handy for when I have to get into bios or some other command level operation.

I tried putting the voltage up to 2.7v, again no boot. The Ram timing settings(in advanced chipset i think) are VERY sensitive. I underclocked my 400Mhz ram to 266Mhz and even then the system wont boot. Timings set to "fast", forget the fabled "ultra" setting

  • KT4V (with lan) and TV Tuner Cards

I have a MSI motherboard model MS6712. This device isn’t compatible with any PCI TV Tuner Card. When I am using a tv-tuner card, after some minutes the computer crashes and the only way is turning off the computer by switching off the power. This problem happened with four tv cards which I have used. My motherboard has been replaced two times with others MS6712 motherboards. But the problem, which doesn’t happen on a MSI MS6385, is still persistent. Drivers and Bios are up to date.
My motherboard has known incompatibilty with any tv tuner card? I think that this problem affects any MS6712 motherboard.
Anyway the problem is surely caused by the hardware or by a defective BIOS.

  • MS-6590 KT4A Ultra: FSB 333 with DDR400?

Recently purchased an MS-6590. I put in a Athlon XP 3000+ (the FSB 333 version, not the FSB 400 version) and a 1GB Corsair DDR400 stick. How do I get full performance out of this system? It keeps recogniozing the CPU as an XP 2800, not the 3000, and is running at 2088 MHz. I cannot get the multiplier to go to 13. I set the multiplier to "12.5-13". This BIOS doesn't have a "13" setting, only this weird "12.5-13" option. CPU-Z says the multiplier is 12.5. Like I said, I cannot force the "13".
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Michael

Try DaveR's suggestion first, it is good advice.
At best, the following is bad advice......
When setting multiplier, keep pressing pagedown passed auto, you get 14 and 15.  I think 12.5/13.0 is the right setting or leave it on auto.  I did read "somewhere" that by going to the very lowest multiplier would recognise as the higher multipliers.  e.g if you set multiplier to 6.0 would recognise as 13.0 (6.5=14, 7.0=15, 7.5=16).   I don't have that processor so I've never needed to do this... but surely it can't hurt to try.  If it doesn't work, reset CMOS and try again.

  • KT4V turns power off at 55°C with Athlon XP 3000+ FSB333

    Hi there,
I installed a brand new Athlon XP 3000+ FSB333 this week on my MSI KT4V, with a ICE SP-A03 CPU fan. It runs at 48°C when idle, and when CPU load increases with high consumption softwares it goes slowly to 55°C then ... Powers off abruptely !
This behaviour is steady and reproducible using BurnK7.exe. The threshold is always the same : 55°C.
This temperature range is definitely normal for AXP3000+. So far, I did not find any Bios parameter or mainboard switch able to leverage this threshold.
How can I fix this problem ?
    Thanks for help,
    Additional info:
    motherboard : MSI KT4V (chipset KT400)
    Amibios latest level : MS-6712 V1.C
Processor Athlon XP Barton 3000+ FSB 333
    CPU fan : ICE SP-A03
    No overclocking

When changing processor you should clear CMOS.
    When seating it one should:
    - power off and unplug
    - take mobo out
    - remove the old heat sink and processor
    - after placing the processor in...
    - make a "virtual" seating of the heat sink, so it'll fit the socket good, with heel
    - then remove the protective plastic in this case, or put on thermal grease, and place the heat sink.
Time taken when seating the processor, is time saved for the future. Do it good better than quick. The paste wont dry up, and if it doesn't get dirty there is no rush.

  • KT4 won't run at 133MHz with Athlon XP2400+

I have recently built a new PC with:
    MSI KT4V-L Motherboard
    Athlon XP 2400+ CPU
Arctic Cooling Copper Silent CPU cooler rated for Athlon XP up to 2800+
    Samsung 256Mb DDR400 RAM
    Matrox 80Gb HD
Sparkle GeForce 2 MX400 Graphics card with 32Mb
    Running Windows XP Pro
On initial instillation, the processor is reported as Athlon XP 1800+ by
    BIOS.  Is this correct?
By default the FSB frequency is set in the BIOS to 100MHz, and Memory speed is Auto.
I've managed to push the FSB up to 120, which leads to PCAlert4 reporting a
CPU speed of 1808MHz (15 x 240.5) and a CPU voltage of 1.60v.   CPU temp is
    measuring 54 degrees C.
However when I try to push speed up to 133, I can't get windows to start.
It gets through POST, but then reboots before starting windows.
    What's wrong?
I've read the MSI FAQ section, but nothing is even close to my problem.  I've
read the mobo manual cover to cover and several forums (including this one) and articles on the web.
They do indicate that there are compatibility issues with DDR400 memory,
which is why I went for one of the recommended brands that is known to work
with this motherboard.  In retrospect, I should have plumped for DDR333
memory since it gives me more options for increasing memory later, and would
have been more likely to work with the Athlon XP 2400+.
I've already cointacted my reseller and he just indicated that I need to
change settings in the BIOS.  I've read all about these BIOS settings and
tried dozens of combinations beyond the most obvious.
    I'm considering now:
    a) borrow some DDR333 to test if its the memory.
    b) ask my reseller to test the mobo/cpu and ram, but this will cost me more than £30 per hour.
    c) accept that I'll only run at 1.8GHz, which is a significant improvement to my previous Celeron 466.
Is there anything else I can try?
    Dave

    Thanks for the response.
Ok, I'll try to answer all questions:
    1) Did you try to download the new firmware?
No, my Live update says I've got AMIBIOS v1.80 and didn't suggest an upgrade
    2) Set the FSB to 133 and the memory at 266Mhz (try not to use 333mhz DDR modules)
Done this already, but no joy.
    3) After you set the options in the BIOS, it would be better if you make a fresh install of WinXP or whatever OS you have.
I'm not prepared to re-install WinXP PRO unless I see evidence that it will run successfully at FSB 133.
    1. Power Supply not up to spec. Post the specs on the 3.3v, 5v, 12v rails. The Amps output for those voltage lines.
Dragon Technologies 350W Power supply model LC-B350ATX.
    +3.3V 28A
    +5V 35A
    +12V 16A
    -12V 0.8A
    -5V 0.3A
    +5VSB 2A
    +5V & +3.3V combined load 200W
    +5V & +3.3V & +12V combined load 330W
    2. CPU cooler not mounted properly. 54 degrees is pretty for an underclocked CPU, double check to make sure the heatsink/fan is mounted fine. Remount to ensure that it is done properly.
Cooler mounted ok, but I thought sticky copper block on underside of cooler was a "thermal pad", so I followed instructions and did not put any thermal paste on.  I intend to rectify this, although slightly worried I'll trash die when lifting heat sink.  Anyhow, when machine first turned on, CPU temp is 40 so surely it could at least boot up Windows if only to fail 5-10mins later as temp rises to 55?
    3. Memory settings too agressive, set the CAS latency to 2.5, try to set them to the higher value, just for stability testing.
Tried this, but still hangs before starting windows.
    Will sort out heatsink next.
So you don't think its my DDR400 mem then?
BIOS reports CPU as 1800 when FSB set to 100 or 120.   Is this normal?

  • KT4V en 2x DDR 400

    Hi I have a msi-kt4v with a amd XP 2700+ and 2 modules of 512 MB DDR 400 (both msi certified), 350 W psu.
The modules run at 333 Mhz seperately. When I use one memory module there is no problem whatsoever, doesn't matter wich one.
But when I them both the computer won't start Windows XP (clean install). I have tried all combinations with the 3 slots but none works  ?( Ialso tried memtest and no problems where found.
I know it states in the manual that only 1 ddr400 module can be used, but that shouldn't be an issue because I let them run at 333MHz.
Or is that the problem regardless of letting them run at 333.
Maybe any of you has an solution for me, cause I haven't got one. X(

  • Kt4v-L and amd athlon xp 2200+ issue.

    Hey all,
I'm new to the boards here and am in complete desperation.
I just received my new AthlonXP 2200+ in the mail and went to put it in.  I had some minor issues with CPU acknowledgement (reporting it as a 1500+)  so I flashed to version 1.8 of the KT4V mainboard bios.  After the flash was completed (done with livebios btw) My system will no longer boot into Windows.  It WILL boot into safe mode, but as far as actual fully functional windows, it stalls just before the windows logo shows during the loading screen, kind of like a transparent image.
I'm not really all that proficient in all the computer lingo..so i may leave something out,if so please let me know and ill dig up the needed info. But this is my system setup:
Mainboard:  MSI Kt4V-L  Bios version 1.8
    Cpu:        AMD Athlon XP 2200+
    Power:      Alliance 450W
    Video:      Visiontek GeForce 3 TI500
Sound:      Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy X-Gamer
    Ram:        Samsung 512 DDR400
Hard Drive: Western Digital 10 gigabyte
    CD-RW:      Sony
    CD-ROM:     Creative labs
    Lan:        Onboard
If anyone has any idea what my problem might be, and any possible way to remedy this situation, It would be greatly appreciated  :D

Alright... I think your FSB is set wrong.  MSI says that a 100mhz FSB is incompatible with DDR400 memory, so that probably explains your windows boot problem.  To check that, enter the bios when you turn your computer on and go to "Frequency and Voltage" (press delete to enter the bios).  Set the front side bus to 133mhz.  That is most likely the problem since a 2200+ has a 13.5 multiplier, and 13.5 *100 = 1350mhz, which is about the same speed as a 1500+.  Also, check to make sure your RAM speed is set to auto.  I think that option is found under Advanced chipset options (it's the third one on the left).  Post back if that works or not.

  • Slow/Jerky Video with kt6v\sempron 2400\geforce mx400

    Hello!
I'm hoping someone out there has seen this problem before and can point me in the right direction for how to solve it.  I am putting this system together for my sister.  Here are the system's credentials:
    msi kt6v mainboard
    amd sempron 2400 processor
    256 meg ddr ram, 400mhz
nvidia gforce mx400 agp display adaptor  64meg
western digital caviar 20 gig hard drive
generic (comp usa) 52x ide cdrom drive
    lucent pci lt win modem
windows xp pro  with service pack 2
Mainboard bios has recently been upgraded to  recognize the sempron cpu.
Cpu freqency in cmos is set to 166mhz.  (is this the correct setting?)
    The problem:
When playing various video games, such as Carnival Cruise Lines Tycoon, Trailer Park Tycoon, or The Sims (all of which are great games, btw), the video is extremely choppy/jerky.  It doesn't play smoothly at all.  But it SHOULD!   As a test, if I replace that video card with an  FX5200 personal cinema, it works great!  (but there's no way I'm going to give my sister that fx5200 card!  I need the mx400 to work in this machine.)   I can put that gforce mx400 in another machine (kt4v with amd 2200xp) and it works great.  So this tells me the problem should not be with the display adaptor nor the kt6v mainboard.  But is there a compatability problem between the two?  Is there a setting I've overlooked?  I'm thinking this is probably an issue with the display drivers or the mainboard drivers, I just don't know.  I've spent the last 3 nights trying to figure this one out.  This has me stumped.
Anyone else seen this same problem and know the fix?  Also, anybody know what the recommended cmos settings are on the kt6v  when using the mx 400 display adaptor and the sempron 2400 cpu?  What are the recommended drivers/versions for this mainboard and display adaptor?
    Thanks!!!!!

  • Several issues questions with 865PE neo2 FIS2R

ok first off thanks to the people here, the sticky's are great and very informative.
although i do find the info outdated in that they all refer to old bios's. other than that this is a fantastic forum
ok so on with the questions.
im using a Silicon Image IDE U133 RAID controller (PCI CARD), , the ide hard drive(s) do NOT have to be in raid its just like a Promise card but its made by someone else.
ANYTIME i have ANY type of hard drive hooked up to that, the motherboard takes nearly 5 minutes to boot to the active hard drive. even if i select boot menu and then the RAID hard drives the SATA drives i mean.
my active hard drives are 2 Maxtor 160gig SATA drives in RAID0 mode.
if i have NO hard drives hooked to the controller card the system boots directly to the active boot hard drive. without dealy.
IF i have an ide hard drive set to boot off the SIL card, it takes just as long. which seems like ages.
anyone know of issues with this mobo and certain IDE hard drive controllers. (PCI)
i too am having blank sreen issues with my 9700 pro video card.  but mine is nearly 2 out of 5 times i boot i have no video, and many times i am forced to reach around the pc case and unplug the power cord for a few minutes, in order to get the system to boot WITH video.
another issue that i have and this is the WORST.
nearly 90% of the time, the motherboard will NOT i repeat will NOT boot from a floppy or cdrom, all i get is the message on screen, if i am using a bootable floppy, like "Starting windows 98" or "Starting Windows ME"  these are DOS boot disks made with windows XP.
i then get only a blinking curser. and nothing else.
    OR
i get a blinking cursor and then i must wait 5-10 minutes before anything else happens. and even then usually the cdrom or floppy wont complete the booting process.
this happens regardless of if i have anything hooked to that IDE controller card.
i am now using the LATEST bios offered for this mobo and nothing has changed in fact ,,well according to the readme i was expecting to see some changes within the bios but i seee none. maybe i read the read me wrong. (say that 5 times fast)
i can NOT run the ram performance mode in anything other than slow. which is making me very angry.
i have infineon ram not sure what model but i will report back when i find out.
but i do recall sandra reporting it as supporting 2.5cas and other setting that appear to be FAST or TURBO and yet i cant use those in the bios otherwise my system reboots in windows or i get memory speed errors during post.
overall im VERY pleased with this mobo but am discouraged at the way its treating me.
i have a PentIV 3.0ghz HT which is a NON production model, it is a sample model with the multiplyer unlocked.  i can go with a lower multiplyer but NOT a higher one, so i assume its unlocked but the CPU itself is limited to 15x multiplyer.
i have tried tons of configurations and can run very stable at 3.45ghz but i MUST make the dram 333 mhz  not 400. then raise the FSB to around 225 or 230.  but i still get serious power offs when doing any heavy work on the pc.
i have CPU voltages at 1.575 yet  sandra reports it as 1.55
    DRAM voltage at 2.7  ( i am using DDR400)
    and AGP at 1.7
with this CPU what is a GOOD voltage to use.
is it ok to go higher than 2.7 with DDR400 ?
and AGP  everything i have read said that 1.8v will fry the 9700 pro.  is this true ?
sorry im asking alot of questions but if you can help me with any of them i would REALLY appreciate it, and i would pass along any info i learn.!

Well as Far as your PCI IDE Controller Questions are concerned, I would not know as I have never Used one , And with the Available Promise controller, you should Try using this instead......As Far as your Memory Voltage, You can Raise the Voltage above 2.7 Volts, But unless you are Really Overclocking the PBS or FSB as some call it, then 2.7 Volts is the "Norm" For this Board, But if you do NOT have High Performance RAM you should check with the Manufacturer, before you Go any Higher than 2.7 V, as far as the AGP Voltage is concerned, 1.6 Volts is the MAX that you should Have it set to with any of the new NVIDIA-FX or ATI-PRO, or XT Series Cards, Because as you know, the Cards that are 8X AGP Speed only Require .8Volts to begin with, and the ABP Voltage is Further Reduced by the Cards onboard Electronics, And if you have one of the High Performance Cards, well as you know, these get 90% of their Operating Power from the 4 Pin Molex PSU Connector. Any higher AGP Voltage then 1.6 Volts will only increase the Temps. of Both the Motherboards Chipset, and the VPU itself.................Sean REILLY875

  • Usb2 and KT4V

    Hi..
I have a KT4V with an AMDXP2600 and everything is fine except the USB ports.
I am having a problem with voltage. I have installed the usb 2 patch and XP service pack 1.
Whenever I plug my usb hard drive (2.5" laptop type) into the usb port (any of them do the same).. it detects it but won't access this. I have worked this out to be a power supply problem with the usb ports (if I use the power adapter it's fine). However on my previous motherboard (KT3Ultra) I didn't have this problem and I don't have it with the my machine at work.
How can I boost the voltage to the usb ports to get thois to work without having to plug in the power adapter all the time or is this motherboard not upto the job when it comes to USB.
    Thanks

I honestly don't think it's a problem with my PSU.
I have a 480w.. and it was all OK on my KT3Ultra anyway with the same setup.. so I think it's a motherboard problem and not a PC (external to the mainboard) problem..
So how do I fix the motherboard to supply enough power on the USB ports. Like I said my old KT3 Ultra never had this problem with the same setup !
    Help.. please..
    Thanks

  • Trouble with a new format

    OK heres the skinny.
I have several sytems and I am having trouble with one in particular. I was running this KT4V with a barton 2500+ and 1 gig of 2100 DDR. I couldnt put 1 gig of 3200 DDR in because of board limitations. I also has a 170o+ "b" chip that I had order a while back and was using on an outdated MSI boad and was getting mixed results at best.  So I decided to upgrade al my stuff.  I bought an Abit nfs-7 for th ebarton and a gig of 3200 and put the 1700+ in the KT4V. And thats where the trouble started.
It starts at the reformt. It takes literally 5 hrs. to reformat a 30 gig harddrive.  and it took about 1.5 hrs. to complete the windows install. At start up, (it will start up) but it takes about 15 minutes to get to desktop and the pc runs VERY sluggish.
I stried the quick format and it was quick but it is still very sluggish when in desktop.
The only thing different is the cpu.   When I was using the 2500+ this system was fast and stable for over a year. Any suggestions and what could be causing this thing to be soooooooooooooooodamn slow?
    The system is:
    t-bred 1700+ 'B'
    KT4V-L m/b
    1gig 2100 DDR RAM
    Maxtor 7200 30 gig HDD
    Sparkle 300 watt PS
    GF 5600 GPU
    HELP!

Reading that list of parts you are trying to use, I see one item that may cause major problems. The sparkle 300W PSU, it may not be able to handle the needs of the system with that FX5600.
As for the slowness, the IDE cable could cause this. Ensure the blue end is hooked to the board, and the hard drive is hooked to the black end, and not to the gray plug in the middle.
