KT4V won't recognize correctly XP2600+ (FSB 333)

Hello,
I have the following configuration:
MSI KT4V, BIOS 1.8
AMD Athlon XP2600+ FSB 333 (Tbed core as CPU-z says) BOXED version (with AMD fan)
512MB DDR400 memory (MSI recommended brand)
MSI-8888 gfx card (NVIDIA GeForce4 MX440 AGP8x)
350W psu
The problem is that after setting the FSB to 166 in BIOS, the BIOS recognizes the frequency of the CPU to be 2133MHz where on the box AMD states that the processor operates on 2083MHz. No matter what FSB number I enter, the processor speed is incorrectly recognized at 2083MHz.
Memory speed is recognized at 333MHz (which is normal, as said somewhere else in this forum) with CAS latency of 2.5.
Now, when I try to install Windows XP Pro SP1, right after the kernel initialization (during setup), I get a BSoD with error 0x0000007E (or something) and stops. I can only perform an installation if I set the FSB to 155MHz, underclocking the processor.
Now the funny thing: Windows 2000 install absolutely fine using the FSB setting to 166, where XP fail.
I tend to believe that this is some BIOS fault because of the incorrect CPUP frequency detection and the rest.
Please HELP me! Many thanks in advance.

if you set fsb to 100 what speeds it say it runs at,ie what multiplier is it using by default
When the multiplier is set to 100MHz, CPU speed is 1300MHz, so the multiplier is 13.0x -> 333MHz FSB CPU. Plus the code on the CPU is AXDA2600DKV3D.
I've done some research on the internet and the exact STOP error is 0x0000007F followed by four 0x00000000's (Division by zero, DIV). This indicates a hardware failure or a software failure or a misaligned memory (according to M$ info). Tried my parts (CPU, memory) on a Gigabyte M/B, worked fine and correctly identified so it must be a BIOS bug on KT4V AMIBIOS 1.8.
According to Micro$oft, the error also appears on overclocked systems, that go beyond CPU limits. My system runs at 2133MHz with a 333MHz FSB which means it's 2133-2083=50MHz overclocked. The problem is that I'm not trying to overclock the CPU; the BIOS configures it incorrectly and clocks it at 2133MHz instead of 2083MHz. Tried to change multiplier, but it's no avail since it's locked to 13.0x.
The only way I can install XP is by pressing F5 during the "Press F6 to select a SCSI..." message, where I select that the PC is a "Standard PC" (No ACPI whatsoever). I do not know however if I'm risking the integrity of my CPU as it's now overclocked beyond it's factory suggested frequency of 2083MHz.

  • LiveCycle won't recognize correct password

    Hi all,
I recently installed the full version of Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES4.  After using the trial version of the software for a while, I purchased and installed the full version.  Now when I try to open a password protected form, it does not open (it just asks for the password again, and after three times it just stops trying).  The password that I am entering is definitely correct, and there are no caps issues.
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    Alex

No, there is a password required to open the file in LiveCycle Designer so that I can edit the form (I am the only one who does this), and then it is saved as a read-extended pdf so that others can interact with and fill out the dynamic fields of the form.  I can open the pdf in Acrobat just fine, with no issues.  The problem is, I need to update the form and add to it, which requires LiveCycle and consequently that password (which I know, it just isn't recognizing the password as correct).  Even when I go through the security detail in Acrobat, it does not recognize the password.

  • KT4V won't recognize CDroms??

I had my system running perfeclty with a KT3Ultra, until one day the cdrom and burner started acting erratically.  A few weeks later they completely died and I could no longer access either drive in windows; the drives were also not recognized upon POST completion.  Then I noticed that my time was a few hours behind so I figured the mobo had fried and/or the cmos battery was dead.
In any case, I went out and bougth a brand new KT4V and installed it yesterday.  Everything works perfectly fine, except neither the cdrom or the burner are recognized again!  I have tried connecting them invidiually, with the Master setting on the drive, but they are simply ignored by the BIOS!  What is this bizzare issue???  Also, if my burner is connected to the IDE then my keyboard doesn't work...!

  • KT4V-L XP3000+Barton FSB 333 doesn't work

I have a problem with my above mentioned board.
I used the board with an XP2000+ and I had no problems. I decided to buy a new processor. An Athlon XP3000+Barton FSB 333. I bought also new memory ->    512 MB DDR 333/2700 and a new Power Supply.
The new CPU runs only if I set the FSB Clock in the BIOS to 133. He runs only as a XP2200+. That's clear. But If I set the Clock up to 166 the system stands still while booting Windows XP. All green LED's on the D-Bracket are green. But the systems crashes every time when I set the FSB Clock up to 166.
The board runs with the latest BIOS update.

  • Envy 17 HDMI won't recognize mutliple displays

I've got a brand new HP Envy 17 j000 Quad Edition laptop.Device manager is showing two display adapters - one for the onboard intel HD graphics and one for the nVidia 740 GT adapter. When I try to connect an external monitor via the display port (HDMI) on the monitor, the system won't recognize it. Two questions:
Why is the internal Intel HD Graphics taking precedence over the nVidia? Typically I would set up multiple displays by this driver, but the Intel HD is the one showing the access ports - and only recognizing the internal connection and a VGA connection (which this system doesn't have).
Is there a preferred connection method - VGA/DVI/DIsplay port? I have the correct display port adapter and a new HDMI cable - both are new.
    thanks -  David B.

  • Itunes won't recognize iPod after installing MediaMonkey..

    Hi,
I recently switched from Itunes to MediaMonkey, and I'm very happy. But my girlfriend still uses iTunes. And now her iTunes won't recognize neither her or my iPod when I connect either of them. Windows and MediaMonkey recognizes them perfectly. iTunes just comes up with this error message:
"The software necessary to communicate with iPod isn't correctly installed. Install iTunes again before installing iPod-software."
I've tried uninstalling and re-installing iTunes a number of times. I even tried uninstalled MediaMonkey, but nothing works..
PLEASE HELP ME, I'M GOING INSANE HERE =(

Have you tried working through the steps in this article, in the order listed?

I just bought a new pc and for our internet connection we have an airport express. My laptop can connect to it but my airport utility won't recognize it. Even though it does connect to the internet about every 15 minutes the internet shuts off. What should I do?

If you've not yet tried, unpower the AppleTV for a minute or so and restart - this occasionally corrects issues.
If not and the software update seems to have caused an issue, go to the Settings menu and choose to Restore it (this will erase all settings) to reapply current firmware.
Alternatively try to do so via iTunes:

  • My MBP won't recognize my external hard drive

I have an external hard drive that used to work just fine on my MBP, but now it won't recognize it. When I plug it in (USB), the green light turns on the hard drive, but nothing happens on my MBP. Maybe it is recognizing but not letting me know? I did check disk utility but it's not there either.

Drives "unmounted" sometimes suffer volume structure damage or similar. Sometimes it's correctable without re-formatting the drive, but not always. Depending on whether or not it contains stuff you want to keep, I'd think you have two choices:
    1. If you don't mind losing what's on it: Reformat the drive (which will erase the contents), using Disk Utility, or just accept the "initialize" option you are offered.
    2. If you want to try to retain the drive's contents, you'll have to try to repair the disk by whatever means available to you. Disk Utility (which is part of the OS, so you own it already), DiskWarrior, and TechTool Pro may be able to detect the drive. If so, try to Repair Disk, Repair Volume Structure, etc. If the disk can't be recognized, you'll probably have to resort to the previous method.
But if this doesn't work, wait for more advice before doing anything rash, as others may think of things I didn't.

  • DVD Burner won't recognize discs

I recently installed an lg gsa-4166b dual layer dvd burner to my emac and for some reason it won't recognize cds or dvds. Whenever I try to burn anything and put in a blank disc I get the message "no disk inserted". I'm running Mac OSX 10.4.11 and even installed the PatchBurn utility, but still no luck. Can someone help me?

Oh really? Now that is interesting, because in fact I also have a Western Digital MyBook Pro external HD. Actually 2. They worked fine until the last month or so, and one of them had a bad disc so I had to have it replaced on warranty. Now the other one is acting strange -- won't mount. WD had me upgrade the firmware and reinstall the latest drivers. But it's still not acting right.
And you are also correct about the disc playing. Normal DVD's, CD's and CD-ROMs play fine. It's just blank CD-R's etc that come up as "unreadable."
I bought these two WD MyBook Pro 1 TB drives on 10/20/2007 however, and I don't recall that I had a disc burning problem that long ago. Maybe it's been that long since I burned a disc? I'm not sure...
Incidentally I've had another problem for a really long time, which is a very long Mac OS startup. I am not sure when it started but it might have been about the time I bought these drives and installed the software. See threads:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1765645&tstart=0
    and
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1880557&tstart=0
Yesterday two things happened. One, Apple sent through another automatic update requiring a reboot, but I didn't catch what it was. Two, WD had me upgrade the drive firmware and software drivers. Suddenly my bootup problem has gone away. So the question is, was it Apple's update or WD's firmware upgrade?
And lo and behold, I just entered one of the same blank Fujifilm CD-R discs and it mounts without a problem. I can now burn discs again. I have a feeling the WD firmware upgrade fixed a lot.
Yeesh! I think I shall be buying drives from someone else in the future.
Thanks for this very insightful tip.

  • IMac 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, running Lion 10.7.3, won't recognize external speaker jack, any suggestions?

iMac 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, running Lion 10.7.3, won't recognize external speaker jack, any suggestions?  Got a brand new iMac and purchased external speakers for same.  Hooked them into external speaker jack and the computer does not recognize the external speaker jack.  I then plugged them into the external head phone jack and the computer recognized the head phone jack.  How can I get the computer to recognize the speaker jack?

Thanks "a brody," my mistake, I was mistaking the "audio in" jack for a speaker output jack.  I have some Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers with a built in amplifier that I am using and they sound beautiful.  I do have them plugged into the correct jack, but was thinking there was a speaker out put and headphone out put.
Thanks again for correcting me, I feel much better now that I know my brand new iMac isn't defective, lol.

  • IMovie won't recognize certain 'File extensions' ??

    Hi,
can anyone help here. I use Handbrake to compress Movie files before I use Quicktime to 'export to web' option, then import to iMovie to then edit before submitting ti iTunes ( keeps the size down but still have good quality ). Anyway even though the files from Handbrake have either a .mov or .m4v extension iMovie won't recognize them, but if I then use QT export to web ( which in turn makes a folder with the new files inside ) which have the .m4v, iMovie will see it !!
    Any ideas please.
The compressed file under Handbrake is small but good quality ( 2.3Gb down to 178Mb ) but if I use QT it then becomes even bigger ( 539Mb ) !!!!!
    Steve

I'm new to Handbrake so could you tell me what do you mean by 'Don't include extraneous data tracks' ?
Most people use HandBrake to convert DVD content (usually multiplexed M2V video and AC3 audio) to iPhone, iPod, TV, iTunes/Front Row files for viewing and/or iMovie '08 compatible files for editing. Since DVD content usually contains chapter data and the default setting for Apple device presets like TV normally default to include the chapter track data and (in older versions) may default to include an extra AC3 "passthrough" audio track, the output from such conversions are not supported by iMovie '08. If this is true, then re-exporting the content as you described would remove the extraneous data and explain why the files are incompatible with iMovie '08 before export and compatible after.
However, you have not confirmed that the incoming files are, in fact, stored on DVDs or indicated which specific settings are being used for your HandBrake conversions. iMovie '08 is only "edit" compatible with files containing DV, AIC, Motion-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, and certain profiles of MPEG-4 or H,264 video compressed data. So there is always a secondary possibility here that you are selecting an incompatible form of output form HandBrake and then using the "Export for Web" option to accidentally convert the incompatible compression format to a compatible one since this option exports to H.264/AAC by default.
If you have a much better way of doing this I am all ears especially if it makes my life easier, I am on a steep learning curve here ( sending video podcasts to iTunes but in good quality ).
The normal approach would be to select the iPod preset within HandBrake (or within QT Pro, GarageBand, MPEG Streamclip, etc. if the source file is QT compatible) and convert directly to an iMovie '08 compatible file. The iPod preset would create a file equivalent to the "Desktop" (1500 Kbps) file created by the "Export for Web..." option but, as previously mentioned may contain a "chapter" track if you fail to turn it off. If you want a smaller output file, then all you have to do is reduce the target data rate in HandBrake. If you are currently editing the equivalent of the iPhone file (900 Kbps) using your current work flow, then reduce the target average bit rate to 900 or 1000 Kbps before exporting from HandBrake. Basically, this approach is faster since you do not have to export the data twice. On the other hand, it is a bit more complicated since you have to manually ensure any extraneous data tracks are de-selected and that the correct compressing preset/settings are selected.

My recently installed Acrobat 9 Standard won't recognize my  Canon Lide 200 scanner even though Adobe Photoshop CS2 does.  I don't know what the problem is and how to solve it.

Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 was recently installed on new Vista 64bit computer and functions with all programs and even prints to my Dell 1600n printer, but when I try to scan from the printer, it causes this error message and shuts Acrobat down:
"ADOBE ACROBAT HAS STOPED WORKING A Problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
I have lived with this since I bought the computer a month ago. Still no solution from Adobe and no response to an email that I sent to adobe support.
