KT4V & AMD 2200+ update ;)

Hello,
After the sirene problem earlier today, I've put some heat pasta between the cooler and the processor.  Result now is, that i can boot again (woohoo!).
My other problems remains though..  when setting FSB to 133 (spread disabled), I still can't boot.  Windows (XP) doesn't want to boot.. when I start it in safe mode, it always gets stuck at loading MUP.SYS.
When I try to boot from cdrom, it does the "detecting your hardware", finds everything successfully, and hangs..
What would be your guess?  Cooler problem?  After it hangs, I immediately go to BIOS, and pc health says temperature is 49C, which is not critical, if you ask me.  Power problem?  I have +3.3V/24A +5V/35A, which should be sufficiant (PSU is 350W, +5V/3.3V combined load 190W).
Any thoughts?
-Wedlock

I'm probaby going to buy myself a new PSU (just to make sure it's not that), and I'll probably take this one: http://mixpc.zoovy.com/product/PS_TP4420
Let's suppose it's the PSU, that is causing the MB not to see the correct CPU.. what settings do I need to set in the BIOS?  Is it sufficiant, to just raise the FSB to 133?  Or do I need to change other stuff aswell (like spread spectrum)?
thx,
-w

  • AMD 2200+ Vs MSI(MS-6390)

    Hai I want to know how to get best performance with AMD 2200+ Processor to
     MSI(MS-6390) mother board it indicates 1.67Ghz
    But It must be 2.8 Ghz
    Pls inform me how to correct this with Jumper settings or Bios  and

    a 2200+ needs liquid nitrogen to even have a chance to work at 2.8ghz.
    can you specify which cpu you got.
    a 2000+ works at 1.67ghz
    a 2200+ works at 1.80ghz
    is fsb set to 133

  • KT4V + Amd XP 2200+ works!

    Hello,
    I've just put my RAM on 266Mhz (instead of 333Mhz), and now my PC boots, with FSB 333 (woohoo!).
    Now the question: why doesn't it boot with ram on 333?
    -w

    Are you trying to OC the board or is it just booting up with a 333FSB?

  • [SOLVED] AMD Microcode update failed (on Xen host)

    I have an Arch system running as a VM Host based on Xen 4.4.1
    It is yet unclear to me why the VMHost (Dom0) cannot update the CPU microcode of the AMD Opteron 3365.
    The following errors appear.

    I am aware that Xen can do some early loading of microcodes, since I have found clues in the Xen git logs.
    But I guess Xen does not update the microcode, since the OS in Dom0 believes it is necessary to update the microcode.
    Does anybody have a clue why updating the CPU microcode from within Dom0 fails?

    I have solved the issue by using the Xen early microcode loading with the following changes.
    Copy the correct microcode binary to the boot folder.
    sudo cp /lib/firmware/amd-ucode/microcode_amd_fam15h.bin /boot
    Edit the Xen command line in /etc/xen/grub.conf from
    XEN_HYPERVISOR_CMDLINE="dom0_mem=1024M,max:1024M xsave=1"
    to
    XEN_HYPERVISOR_CMDLINE="dom0_mem=1024M,max:1024M xsave=1 ucode=-1"
    Hardcode the /etc/grub.d/09_xen configuration file to load the binary.
    From
    menuentry "Xen ${XEN_VERSION} / Arch Linux ${_KERNEL_PKG_} kernel" ${CLASS} {
    $(save_default_entry)
    if [ x\$feature_all_video_module = xy ]; then
    insmod all_video
    fi
    set gfxpayload=keep
    insmod ${BOOT_PART_FS}
    if [ x\$feature_platform_search_hint = xy ]; then
    search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root ${BOOT_PART_HINTS_STRING} ${BOOT_PART_FS_UUID}
    else
    search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root ${BOOT_PART_FS_UUID}
    fi
    echo '$(printf "Loading Xen %s ..." ${XEN_VERSION})'
    multiboot ${REAL_DIR}/${XEN_BASENAME} ${REAL_DIR}/${XEN_BASENAME} ${XEN_HYPERVISOR_CMDLINE}
    echo 'Loading Arch Linux ${_KERNEL_PKG_} kernel ...'
    module ${REAL_DIR}/${_KERNEL_FILE_} ${REAL_DIR}/${_KERNEL_FILE_} root=${GRUB_LINUX_ROOT_DEVICE} rw ${GRUB_LINUX_PARAMS}
    echo 'Loading Arch Linux ${_KERNEL_PKG_} kernel initramfs ...'
    module ${REAL_DIR}/${_INITRAMFS_}
    To
    menuentry "Xen ${XEN_VERSION} / Arch Linux ${_KERNEL_PKG_} kernel" ${CLASS} {
    $(save_default_entry)
    if [ x\$feature_all_video_module = xy ]; then

    module ${REAL_DIR}/${_INITRAMFS_}
    echo 'Loading AMD Microcode'
    module ${REAL_DIR}/microcode_amd_fam15h.bin
    Rebuild the grub configuration file
    sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
    And reboot
    Check with the following command that Xen is running
    dmesg | grep xen
    Check with the following command that the microcode has the correct version
    [arthur@orion1695 ~]$ dmesg | grep microcode
    [ 9.379631] microcode: CPU0: patch_level=0x06000832
    [ 9.379645] microcode: CPU1: patch_level=0x06000832

    [ 9.379738] microcode: CPU7: patch_level=0x06000832
    [ 9.379823] microcode: Microcode Update Driver: v2.00 <[email protected]>, Peter Oruba
    [arthur@orion1695 ~]$
    And as you see in this example, there is no attempt to update the microcode anymore, since it is already up-to-date.
    I hope this helps other people facing this issue.

  • Why Am I Offered AMD Driver Updates?

    Using the new Dell System Detect v6.0.0.14, which the website demanded I install (updating the current version) before checking for needed updates on an Optiplex 3020.
    First, Device Manager shows I have Intel HD Graphics 4400 Display adapter installed.  But, Drivers and Downloads is offering me AMD Radeon R5-240 / Radeon R7-250 Graphics Drivers when I run a System Analysis.
    WHY?
    And, the other offered update is for Chipset software, to which the following message appears when I attempt to apply it:  "This computer current contains software version 10.0.24, which is newer...sure you want to overwrite with the older version 9.4.0.1027?"  Doesn't the Dell System Detect even CHECK version numbers?
    WHAT'S HAPPENED TO UPDATES?

    Obviously the software is broken. I would simply uninstall it for now. Maybe re-visit it in the future. I do not allow any "program" to notify me of newer drivers for my Alienware X51. I go to the website, enter the service tag number, then manually check the dates of the drivers.

  • Amd 2200+ Xp Problems

    well had to do the mod to get it to boot in this kt266a ru mobo.
    but wierd thing is this chip wont overclock , does anyone else have this chip and mobo? i would like to know if they are getting it to overclock on this mobo....\
    maybe this chip model

    thanx i read over it, but this is the problem.i used a some info out of another forum on msi to mod this board. it is a kt7266a ru, whick only supports up to a amd 2100 + xp cpu, the mod modifies the board by removing a small resistor
    off it to lower the voltage to use the 2200 xp chip.the only thing i was asking did anyone else do it with the board and use this same cpu and see what overclocking they was able to end up with .
    thanx again

  • Help kt4v amd 3200+

    i have just bought a AMD Athlon XP 3200+ 2.2 Ghz 400FSB 512K will it work with my kt4v motherboard or do i need a new board
    AMD XP2600+
    1.5gig  PC2600 Kingston
    MSI KT4V
    NVIDIA GFORCE 440MX
    2= 120 GIG SEAGATE ULTRA
    2= 160 GIG SEAGATE ULTRA
    SONY 4X DUR-500ADVD WRITER
    LG 8X DVDRAM GSA-4081B
    SONY DVD ROM DDU1621
    550W JSP Sprite PSU
    Windows MEDIA EDITION

    give it a try and you'll see (you bought it,after all,no?), their official cpu-supported cpu is rather boring ...., they rarely say something about mobiles, which are supported by bios (half-way, but run fine), btw: you should be at least able to boot it, cause you'll start @ 100 mhz fsb .....
     (why they tell you it's not supported? cause pci/agp devices will have to run @ higher speed than their specification => 200 mhz fsb with divider 5 => 40 mhz instead of 33 (agp 80) - as I just wrote hour ago somewhere else on this forum, some devices can take it.,but for example some cheapo soundcards cannot...., I have not measured that gf4 mx440, but I eventually will ...)
    but you must be kidding about your memory speed rating : 2600 => get real, for 400 MHZ cpu you'll need 3200 or better (as kt4v has just 333 fsb, it may juggle the memory timings high up on some fsb setting ..... (no problem running memory on 400 within 333 range :-) )
    and just one note about mem: as you have the 1.5gig, the board won't allow ram to have 400 mhz setting, as it's supported just for one module inserted, so you'll get your ram running @ about 433 mhz around fsb set to 200 mhz -> and this may be the reason why you won't boot @ 200 fsb
    just note that if you manage to boot, check if the board is feeding the cpu with the right voltage ... it should, as the codes are standartized for the whole cpu line, but this may be a little critical, if whatever .....

  • AMD Pavillion Update, Windows Vista

    My other PC, an HP Pavillion with an AMD processor and Windows Vista was doing updates. The process got to update 16 of 17 and has been at that point for the last ten hours at this wriing. It appears to have gotten stuck on something. There is no response to doing a CTRL-ALT-DEL from the keyboard. How should I proceed.

    Problem solved.
    A couple of days ago, my wife was using that PC to do a variety of things including some e-mails and when she was finished, she initiated a shutdown, turned off the monitor and walked away. The next day, she noticed that the PC had not shut itself down so she turned on the monitor to discover than a Windows update was occurring, that the process gotten to update 16 of 17 and was seemingly stuck there.
    There was no PC response to doing a CTRL-ALT-DEL from the keyboard. I could put the computer to sleep and back on again, but the update screen remained unchanging except for a rotating icon that seemed to show that some kind of process was underway. It turns out that it was.
    A short while ago, perhaps a day and a half after the attempted shut-down, I discovered that the PC had indeed finally shut itself down. I turned it back on and up came a screen display showing that updates were being confiugred, stage 3 of 3. I left everything alone and the PC entered into normal operation.
    It would appear that the update process had started automatically just after my wife had commanded the PC to shut down and that the sixteenth update took well over a day to be implemented. Normally, the PC would have done a restart, but since it had been commanded to shut down, it did that instead. When I came along and powered it back up, the update process completed itself.
    My only real bewilderment at this point is why there was the super long time for that sixteenth update to take place.

  • Constant Crashes since AMD Driver Update, Skype is Unusable

    So a few hours ago, I decided to update my Catalyst Control Center to the latest version after being behind for a long time. Shortly after I did so, Skype began to fail on me. Any time that I attempt to connect to a call, Skype crashes and exits. I've tried every solution I've found on here, including:
    Reinstalling the drivers
    Reinstalling Skype
    Disabling start up options
    Enabling program-controlled anti-aliasing functions within the Control Center
    It will literally ring once, and then lock up, citing the "Skype has stopped responding/working," before shutting it down. I attached my Direct X Diagnostics. Please help, this is incredibly frustrating.

    I spent 2 hours finding a solution and finally did. You CANNOT use any beta drivers if you got AMD, I used the 14.4 AMD Drivers (stable version from 4/25/2014) and worked perfectly fine, it's a problem with the catalyst center but you can use any version of skype as well as others reported certain versions work, this will completely fix the "click someone to call and crash and hard reboot" problem that nobody has found a fix for really. Looks like we'll be stuck using the stable (if your using AMD Drivers) for awhile until it gets fixed but it doesn't matter too much. Fix:Completely uninstall AMD from the program and then in your control panel uninstall the control center and everything else AMD associated and then install the stable drivers.Link: http://www2.ati.com/drivers/14-4-win7-win8-win8.1-64-dd-ccc-whql.exe Enjoy!

  • AMD 7670m update problem

    WELL SIR,
                         I HAVE A HP PAVILION G6 2281SX  AND WINDOWS 8 WITH AMD 7670M AND INTEL HD 4000
             I HAVE INSTALLED THE LATEST AMD 7670M DRIVER THAT IS AMD CATALYST 13.9 5 V BETA
                  BUT WHEN I CHECK 'WINDOWS UPDATE' IN OPTIONAL I HAVE AN AMD 7670M DRIVER THAT IS WRITTEN LIKE THIS-
                            "Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2 - Radeon (TM) HD 7670M"
    SO WHEN I UPDATE IT , IT UPDATES PROPERLY . THEN AFTER RESTARTING  MY LAPTOPS IT SAYS "AMD CATALYST CONTROL CENTER : HOST APPLICATION STOPPED WORKING"
     HELP ME I NEED TO UPDATE THAT DRIVER

    Actually you need to recover the driver to what was previously installed so you can have the switchable graphics feature.
    Updating it via Windows update was a mistake which broke that feature. Only update the AMD driver with the softpaqs that are available in your notebook's support portal and never from AMD nor Windows update. Switchable graphics is a special feature which requires a proprietary driver modified by HP.
