KT6 Delta - CMOS/GPNV Checksum Bad error

Well Im going to get a new psu tonite but I wanted to cover my butt in case the problems I'm experencing could be something else...
If I do cmos clear I get the CMOS/GPNV Checksum Bad error...
All I know is to set my DRAM>SDRAM frequency to 266
and then it gives me BSOD....
any ideas why besides the psu?   I really don't know any of the settings so Im just gonna leave them at default unless you say otherwise.
Oh - I can't tell what my cpu is running after the SDRAM freq change but before its always running at around 1.15 (Im pretty sure)????
Athlon XP 1800+
MSI KT6 Delta
128mb Samsung PC2100 (I also have 2x 256mb Elixir PC2100 out of the case now)
GF4 ti4400 (some brand not sure)
Seagate IV Barracuta 60gig

Me might have big problem. When me clears CMOS I get bad error too. Enter today and how much clock there is, both in the world and in my PC -> is alright. But memory no 266 Yes 133

Ok, i finally got the system to POST so I could set the BIOS.  After setting the BIOS, i save and exit.  But now it wont POST again and locks up.  I have to Clear CMOS again and re-do the BIOS.
After the I get it to POST I always get CMOS/GPNV and/or checksum bad or CMOS wrong.
How should the BIOS be set(if this is the problem) for a AMD64 3400+ 939 pin and PC3200 DDR400 RAM?

So far so good.  Its running with no probs now.  I'd say its officially fixed.  I will look at uping performance in BIOS later on after I game test it.
My problems and their fixes were:
1st Problem- No boot to POST, just fans and drives spinning, system hung up and unable to reset.
Fix- Re-cycled the Clear CMOS jumper(JBAT1)
2nd Problem- Boot to POST, stuck at test screen due to bad CMOS.  Error: CMOS wrong, or CMOS/GPNV checksum bad.  Attempts to correct CMOS settings would cause 1st Problem all over.  Same JBAT1 fix to get back to 2nd Problem with same error messages.
Fix- in CMOS set DDR400 to DDR333.
Result- Hassle free boot, POST and system install.  No other problems found.  Woohoo!
Thanks to everyone for their help.

  • CMOS /GPNV Checksum bad in KT4 Ultra

HI! I looked out at some replies about this same problem but some of the post didn't adjust to my case or the answers doesn't help.
My tragic history is this. Three weeks ago my PC started to restart in the middle of work or windows would refuse to start (both Windows 98 and XP) always giving different reasons or none in the most cases. I decided to boot Linux and it gave me a Kernel panic so I thought that it could be a memory problem and it was. A Dim that a friend gave me was damaged in some way and it provocked the problem (I tested my PC without it and it never restarted). I decided to upgrade my memory to 1 Gb so I bought two new 512 dimms. It worked fine but recently my PC had suddenly been reestarting or simply stoping working giving sometimes a couple of beeps. Then sometimes it gaves me
"CMOS /GPNV Checksum bad". I have reseted the Bios to defult values and set the FSB in 133Mhz but in a couple of reboots it returns to it. At first I thought it was overheated (my room is pretty hot being the procesor temperature of 44° - 54°) but it never stops in the same number and it have done it very cold. One more thing: I never witnessed this but my brother said that one time it showed a message saying something about an error with the PCI Video Card. I'm open to suggestions and any help will be appreciated. Windows also gave me last time this:
    *** Stop: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xBF81F0F2, 0xED9027C8,0x00000000)

    My Pc profiles is:
    Motherboard : KT4 Ultra
    Processor: Athlon XP 2000+
    Video Card: Ati Radeon 9200
    Memory: 2 dims 512 Mb 333Mhz Kingston
    Bios: Ami bios V 1.3
PS: Sorry for the long post and the bad english

Thanks for the advice, I'm taking note of them to apply them each time that I take a look at my PC state. In fact, some time ago I got a problem with dust on the motherboard but it never came to my mind that I could be having a problem in the PSU because of the same reason, in fact I didn't use to clean dust from it just from the devices, thing that I'm changing right now.
About the PSU, it really is dead, it gave me some pretty sparks and died... good news is that I only lost the PSU and Sound Card and now I getting a better PSU to support all my devices and I'm looking for a better way to keep the system cooler. I'm going to use the day of tomorrow to do the fix and I hope that the problem will be solved.
But first I'll go looking for my cleaner ^_^
    Thank you all!

  • Cmos/ gpnv checksum bad

Ive been at it for a week to find out why i keep on getting this error message"Cmos/ gpnv checksum bad". Ive cleared Cmos many times , changed memory , changed hd, and i still keep on getting this message. When i turn on the computer i hear 3 beeps and thats it. Sometimes it will boot up and i can get into bios but it ends up freezing within 20 secs, then i have to reboot and i again hear 3 peeps. I thought i would give it a shot and change the battery and while doing it i figured out the problem. The plastic circle peice that the battery goes in was lose , so the battery wasnt snug. If i laid my computer on the floor it would boot up but as soon as i sat it up the battery would wiggle loose. So i had my girl friend press down on the battery while i reformated my computer but as soon i told her to let go the computer would freeze. I turned it on 3 beeps again!!!! So if anyone is having this problem check the battery and make sure its flush not loose.

Yes, and return the mobo, if you bought it new. You shouldn't have to live with that, especially as your girlfriend might be electrified.

  • 848-V CMOS/GPNV Checksum Bad

Brand new MB, brand new case, memory, processor.  2x512mb Kingston DDR400, P4 2.8(ht), Leadtek Geforce 4 Ti4400.  USB Keyboard and Mouse.  Nothing else is installed yet- I've tried booting with or without a hard drive, no dice.  I get it to post, then it tells me that the CMOS/GPNV Checksum is bad, press F1 to setup, F2 to load defaults and continue, etc etc.
No keyboard strokes are processed.  All components are new or tested and working on the PC I am using now.
Anyone have any ideas?  Unfortunately, MSI's site is down to me at the moment and i can't get a new bios to try flashing it, but it strikes me that the problem might be deeper than that.
Edit:  I am now able to get into the bios, made a small change and it now boots a bit further along, but instead I get to a flashing screen- the text resets every second or two, on the following:
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable.
    PXE-M0F:  Exiting PXE ROM

Disabling the onboard LAN enabled me to get further along and begin to install Xp onto the hard drive, which is now recognized.  Turns out that simply using an adapter on the USB keyboard to convert it to PS/2 and plugging it into the PS2 slot instead of a USB slot enabled the keyboard to work at bios.
I'm sure a simple set of patches/bios flashes will fix the LAN problem.

  • MSI NF980-G65 mainboard won't read ATA devices? & checksum bad error?

I have an NF980-G65, model# MS-7612.  it has worked great for a couple years and now it won't read any ATA drives?  It also gives a checksum bad error.  It isn't that old and I have a ton of memory on it which I would like to use, but it just won't read the ATA drives.  Sometimes I can get it to read them in the bios, but it will never let me get past installing the operating system, (Windows 7 pro)  Most of the time it just doesn't see them, (hard drive, DVD,CD or any ATA drive)
Does anyone know anything about this? or does it sound familiar?  I have always built my own PC and the mainboards have always lasted longer.   I'm hoping it's something I can fix.  The rest of the board seems to be fine?
It is an AMD quad board with 10gigs of memory and windows 7.  I have also run XP, but it also will not see the ATA drives?
    Thanks!

  • Real Time Clock Error - Check Date and Time settings, System CMOS Checksum bad

    Hello everybody,
Can help anyone to resolve my problem.
I have an Thinkpad W520 (42823FG), BIOS 8BET60WW 1.4        When I disconect AC power and remove battery and connect again, I see this message on screen:
"Real Time Clock Error - Check Date and Time settings, System CMOS Checksum bad
Press Esc to continue or F1 to enter Setup"
Is this a system board problem or CMOS battery problem ?
    Thank you

    Hello and welcome,
It's probably (hopefully) just the CMOS battery.  The easiest way to find out is to just replace that battery.
Page 85 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual:

Here's an example of the battery.  I'm not recommending (or not) this vendor:

  • T410 - how to recharge backup battery after - ERROR 0251 System CMOS checksum bad

    Hey people
I would like to know how to recharge the backup battery ( internal one, keeping clock and date etc. )
    i got the
Error 0251 System CMOS checksum bad— Default configuration used.
message and after looking at the T400 manual they write what to do:
Charge the backup battery for more than 8 hours by connecting the ac adapter.
ok sounds good, but i cant figure out how to properly charge it,
do i need to put the normal battery pack out and then attach it to the AC adapter, or not?
Does the laptop need to be running or will it be charged also turned off?
i would really appreciate if u could help me out and tell me the proper way to recharge!!
    thanks already,
    cheers,
    Andi

    Hello and welcome,
I didn't know that the backup battery was rechargeable.  I don't think it is.  You might be better off to just replace it.
The  Hardware Maintenance Manual page 80 shows how to access it.  According to the System Service Parts T410, the FRU number is 02K7078.  They should be easy to find and inexpensive.

  • 0251 error system CMOS checksum bad

A couple days ago, I turned on my laptop (Satellite A105-S4201) and it send me to a black screen with some information and the warning: 0251 system CMOS checksum bad. It now sends me to this black screen with the warning every time I turn on the computer and every time it comes back from hibernate. I have tried leaving it on for 24 hours to charge the battery but this hasn't worked. I've also installed the BIOS 6.00 and I still get the same error.
When I go to setup, the time and date and everything is all correct; I've reset defaults and keep getting this message. It doesn't ask for a password, it just gives me the 0251 error.
I've had this computer for almost 4 years and have never had any problems before. I read somewhere that it could be a problem with the CMOS battery, but I also read that they usually last for about 10 years. If I do have to replace it, where could I go and how much would it cost?
Any ideas on how to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Dantheman,
Try to reseat the CMOS battery first, or better replace it with a new one. You need to go to Sony's Authorized Service Center or a local technician if you're not comfortable doing this.
    Thanks,
    Vincent

    thanks for all

    Hi all
    Pushing up this topic.
We got the same issue on two A57 9704-7KG after System Update. It think a BIOS update was there as well.
We've also changed the batteries but the BIOS won't save the settings.
Is there any possibility to fix that or bring back the previous BIOS version?
    Thanks for any help.

  • Cmos checksum bad when bios update

WHen i try to update the bios i always get "Cmos checksum bad" after the computer restarts. I have both tried to use the live update in windows mode, and tried to update directly in bios mode using usb-stick. I get "Cmos checksum bad".
I have also "MSIHQ USB Bootable Tool and BIOS Helper" but that dident work at all. the images dident work, not even the backup it made (piece of crap software).
    What is the problem????

If the update was good you will get the 'CMOS checksum error'. You need to clear CMOS, remove PSU from AC power and then clear CMOS.

  • CMOS Checksum Bad ...

    Howdy chaps,
Got my K8N Diamond Plus today, first thing it said when I booted up a new rig with it was:
CMOS Checksum bad - Press F1 to setup or F2 to load default values.
I pressed F2, everything has since worked fine.  But of note, whenever I reset the CMOS, it goes back to that and I need to press F2 once more.
Did anyone else have this issue?  Is my battery dying?  Do I need to send this bad boy back to ZipZoomFly?

What's so hard to understand .
clear cmos erases it/all data , no valid checksum exist after this .
cmos is then loaded with bios defaults from the bios chip , but checksum is still not valid until cmos is saved .
Only way to get valid checksum again it to save cmos settings from the "cmos setup menu" .
bios and cmos is two different things . cmos resides in the nvidia chipset .
But why didn't I get the same error message on an A8N32-SLI?  Do Asus just hide it, or automatically load defaults upon resetting the CMOS..?

  • HELP, Keep getting CMOS Checksum Bad message...

I had made a change in bios that i guess i should'nt have, i disabled internal VGA graphics or some crap, next thing i know the computer stopped sending a signal to the monitor, so then i used the reset system config method by changing some jumpers oh by the way i have a K9N2G NEO motherboard, anyway long story short i keep getting a CMOS checksum bad message, i can load windows by pressing f2 where it says load defaults, but then when i try to open anything besides windows explorer, and internet explorer, i see the hourglass for a second and then nothing else happens i dont know what to do at allll

    Hello!
Please list your components. Include the PSU.
CMOS... message is quite normal if you cleared properly. However, I would like you to do it yet again. This time pull the power cable before entering the system. Use the manual for guidance, to find the correct jumper. - Yes, I know it feels like cheating to use the manual, but it can save time.
The hourglass is a different story. We might cut that story short with the clearing of CMOS.
After clearing CMOS you have to enter date, time, what you boot from, and possibly the speed out from the processor. Until we know what processor and memory you got we can't say very much there.

  • ACS SE 1112 CMOS Checksum Bad

Ran recovery disc 3.3 to wipe out ACS for re-deployment into another network and all I get now is "CMOS Checksum Bad
    Press F1 to Run SETUP
Press F2 to load default values and continue". Needless to say, F1, F2 have no effect. Any ideas?

First make sure you are using correct recovery CD. Like if the model is ACS1112 then we need to use 1112 recovery and NOT 1113 or 1111.
If still issue is there and that seems to be a bad appliance, you need to get it replaced.

  • Mini 1030nr CMOS Checksum bad - Restarts and hangs

After checksum error, it restarts with HP logo again with F9 to select boot device or F10 to enter setup but neither key does anything. Tried CTL Home and rom file in USB floppy but it seems it never reads from the floppy. It does access the floppy during Post like normal but it doesn't seem to read it again to get the ROM file. Since it's not booting from USB flash drive, there is no way to run the Windows BIOS flash. Is there a way to set BIOS to default? How can I flash since there is no OS running? It just hangs with two function keys having no effect. Thanks for any suggestions.

I have an HP Mini 110 - 1040TU and has got the same checksum bad / F9/F10 key hang-up. Any run-around to get rid of these problems and make the mini work ? Thanks.
