KT6 Delta-FIS2R won't go into Stand By mode

Hi, any advise on this would be appreciated.
I just installed my second KT6 Delta-FIS2R. First one returned due to “cold boot” problem.
This new one is almost unstoppable. When I connect the external power the system boots up without me hitting the power button. It did so from the very first time I connected power.
When I choose “Turn off computer / Stand By” the system slows down, disks, fans seems to stop, but only for a second. It then starts up again. Changing the ACPI mode in BIOS does not change anything. Anyway, the BIOS settings were default the very time it started up.
When I choose “Turn of computer / Turn Off” the system stops as it should. I can the press the power button and the system start normally.
I added a Maxtor +9 ATA133 at same time as I changed the board. Only change performed.

Eiii, things are working now. I did some fiddeling in the Bios - Power Management feature.
I just wonder why the BIOS defaults works this way now. Different than the "old" board.

  • SUPER TROUBLES!!!!! - KT6 Delta FIS2R

    Greetings,
Man am I pissed!!!  The saga starts here…….
I decided to upgrade one of my servers, looking on MSI’s page, I see this new KT6 Delta – FISR2 and yea I fell in love, just had to have it…..
I placed my order with an online retailer for basically a complete package. (Details below).
    MB:  KT6 Delta – FIS2R
    CPU: AMD XP 2500+ (1.86 GHz / 512 KB L2 Cache / 333 MHz FSB)
    Ram: Kingston 512 MB 333MHz DDR PC2700 DIMM CL 2.5 (KVR333X64C25/512)
Drives: (2) Seagate Barracuda 120GB Serial ATA 7200RPM 8MB Buffer
I paid for FedEx 2 day air, which should have arrived on Thursday.  Good thing I checked FedEx Online Tracking Thursday evening since no package showed up.  Telephoned FedEx, and the lady read me the “details” on the tracking number posted by the driver from earlier in the day.  The driver stated, “He couldn’t find the house number, only Dr. Offices”.  Off to the FedEx station I go to pick up my package of new parts, and to chew the ass of the station manager…..
Friday I didn’t have a chance to fiddle with anything, so I put that off until today (Saturday).
Yippie it’s now Saturday morning, I can play with my new hardware!  (Hell I even got up early for this)…   ;P
I took down my file server, and proceed to remove the MB and the remaining guts so I can install these new parts.  Upon opening the KT6 Delta FIS2R box, I noticed there aren’t any Serial ATA power connectors for the drives, so off to the local computer store I go.  (The MB did come with two SATA drive cables).
Now back home, I can really get a start on this new box.  Installed the MB, CPU / Fan, and Ram….but wait….my AGP video card won’t fit in the AGP socket…  They changed the damn socket…  Oh well, off to the local computer parts store again for a new video card.  I snagged the PNY Technologies Verto GeForce FX 5200 AGP – 128 MB DDR, now heading back to the house…..
Once home, I slam in the new GeForce, and continue to hook up everything else (case led’s, speaker, etc….you know the drill, usual case crap).   Whew assembly is complete; I can now power this new hog up!!!!
Flipped the power switch, you could hear the “whirl” of all the fans I have installed, boy am excited!!!!   Ummm wait a minute….  Nothing, nodda, zero, zilch, nothing….  Monitor is blank; drives are not turning (usual chit / chat clatter).   Houston we have a problem!
Ok maybe I did make a mistake in hooking up this new contraption, but I seriously doubt it.  Now before some start to flame, just let me clarify that I have been building machines for 14 years now.   I double, triple, and quadrupled checked everything, and still the damn box won’t even give the slightest hint of booting.   So I figured I’d look around on the MSI forums for some hints etc.  Maybe someone else has had this problem before.
Upon searching I find that most people think it’s a power supply problem when one of these new fangled boards won’t even flicker.  Ok just to eliminate that, off the local parts store for a new power supply.  I picked up a KWI KingWin 450 Watt jobby-do with 3 fans built in.  I wanted an “Antec” but they didn’t stock them…. Oh well….
Back home again now for the 3rd time, I install this new power supply, with all of my fingers crossed, praying this is the problem….  Muddled a little something under my breath, and pushed the power button……..  Same thing, nodda, zilch, zero…..
Ok now something I received must be DOA.  First let’s rule out the CPU and RAM.   I removed the AMD XP 1700+ and 512 MB PC2100 ram from my workstation machine, and installed them into this new KT6 Delta FIS2R, just to see if it’s any of those two parts.  Remember I just want to see if this new setup will just get to the bios.
Smashed the power button and nothing….. I’m getting more pissed with each and every moment now, as you can probably tell.  Ok it’s probably not the CPU & Ram, so let’s put them back in my workstation.  Ok done, now fire up the workstation…..   Nothing!!!
This workstation has a MSI KT7266 Pro2 MB in it, so I figured I’d check the D-Bracket on the back panel…..  Four Red LED’s, (processor is not installed properly or DAMAGED).  Well crap I know it’s installed properly, so I’m guessing the new KT6 Delta FISR2 MB smoked that CPU when I swapped them out.  So now my workstation is down also…..   Can you just imaging how pissed I am now?????
Reinstalled the new AMD XP 2500+ CPU and Kingston Memory back into this new piece of crap KT6 Delta FIS2R, powered her up and looked at the D-Bracket LED’s.  Now everything is dead!!!  Nothing….Even the damn fans won’t even power up, I mean nothing is powered up anymore.  Ok let’s try this, to see if the new XP 2500 CPU and RAM is ok.... I installed the XP2500+ and 512 ram into my Workstation to read the D-Bracket LED’s.   It shows the same as above (processor not installed properly or damaged).
So now I have to purchase a new processor for my workstation machine, in order to get that back up and running.  Then on Monday, I have to contact this online retailer I purchased all this stuff from, to see if they will swap out the MB, CPU, and Ram.
Man I’m pissed!!!!   Maybe this is a fluke, DOA board???? I seriously hope MSI’s quality isn’t going down the beaten path….
    All for now…..
    Jeff

    Hi Guys,
Thanks again for lending a helping hand once again...
    ASSAF:
Yea I tried that also, still nothing….. CPU+Cooler+RAM+VGA   I even went down as far as only the CPU+Cooler+Ram, while watching the D-Bracket to see if there was any instance of life in this thing……Nodda…
    BAS:
Yes I made sure the Cooler was installed correctly, and yes re-greased when it was installed.  I also unplugged & re-plugged in the power connectors, thinking that “might” do it…..  Still nothing…  Even tried two other Power Supplies….. Nodda….
Tomorrow (Monday) the retailer and I will have a little telephone chat, in order to get my RMA number.  I’m hoping this isn’t going to be a problem in swapping out the components, but until I see some action, I’m not going to hold my breath.  As for now, I’m guessing this is going to be a hassle…. Time will tell!
    Thanks Again,
    Jeff

  • KT6 Delta-FIS2R Serial ATA Question

I have 2 maxtor 80gb serial ATA drives on order, should be here anyday now.  Can't wait!!
Now with the KT6 Delta-FIS2R am i right in thinking it has 2 serial ata controller cards (via & promise?) each supporting 2 drives.
Which controller do you recommend i plug my drives into?  I intend making a 160gb JBOD stripe set with the 2 disks.  Is there much difference between the two?
With the via it appears you can make/delete the raid config thru the bios.  Do you have to ctrl-? to get into the promise to do the same?
Apologies for my lack of understanding but i haven't really played with the MB much as i'm waiting for the drives to arrive.
Also, what is the recommended stripe size?  the book says 64k, is this correct in practice?  I will be making a 20gb system partition and the remaing 140gb for data and the pc will just be for general use (downloaded files, re-encoding dvds, maybe the odd game)
    bios updates?
What is the recommended patch levels for the motherboard and both serial-ata controllers?
    Many thanks for your time.
    Zarch

Yup, seen the perf. figures... System does seem really fast, but when you're coming from a PIII with 5400rpm and 512k cache, anything is fast   Got to remember benchmarks are just that and real performance lies somewhere between 0 and benchmarks...
For setup, I think I've seen mention that you should build the SATA array as the only HDD in the system as a first off otherwise the OS tries to install to the IDE drive. Haven't tried this, but just to let you know.
Also, you have to create the RAID array in the BIOS and also set the array to be a boot device in the BIOS. Without doing this the OS doesn't appear to install correctly (and you certainly won't be able to boot it!!).
I don't think there is any performance degredation to splitting the disk into two except if one of the partitions becomes full. When it gets full, it is much more difficult to defrag the drive (and seek time is what ruins disk performance). I've found that you need 20-30% free to be able to sensibly defrag drives (with large files on there). If you believe you'll only ever use 12-15GB for your system, then fire away - but bear in mind I've used that in the first 4 weeks with my system (without the video files...). Games can be a few hundreds of MB each so they soon mount up if you are not careful...
Just have fun and enjoy a really fast system and dont forget a separate backup HDD (or get another 2 SATA drives and run a RAID 0+1 off the Promise controller...) - and not one of the partitions!!

  • KT6 Delta FIS2R Why Oh Why?

I am confused. The KT6 Delta FIS2R mobo just won ANOTHER award and MSI is pulling it out of the market. Does this make any kind of sense?
I just bought a second one to build another system, and am looking forward to it. The one I have now is great.  It took alot of hunting to find it as these boards are rarer than hens teeth. I must have gotten the last one, cause the site I bought it from doesn't have it anymore. And when I did get it, it is missing the D-Led. The motherboard is still sealed in it's original package, but no D-LED......
Yes, I know about the LSR and about the KT6v, but they didn't win any awards, now did they???
Sorry, I am just pissey when my world changes the way I don't want it too....LOL

Oh, Foxmulder, check the ATI site for updated drivers, that might help you...
Yes Mom, have sense ... the mobo is a bad product , and the awards... well..... I don't want to talk about that (cause I have no manners   )
about the drivers.. read my specs, that's why i want back to my old and lovely K7N2 delta
Bas if you like this crap (ooops! I did it again   ) i sell mine!
    Sorry by my manners guys
and i'm not the only one having troubles with this mobo just search on the forum

  • My second KT6 Delta FIS2R, problems again..

I had FIS2R with couple of problems: I didn't start after pressing power on -button. All diagnostic leds were red (processor damaged). After pressing reset computer booted up nicely. This problem was from beginning, later (after half year(?) usage) came stability-problems. System became very unstable. Even when all memory and cpu-speeds were as low as possible, there were problems: Windows hanging, prime gave error etc.
So I got RMA-code and returned it. Board I got back was same model, same revision. It just worked fine, no problems at all. But now there is also that "won't start" -problem sometimes (with diagnostic leds turned red). I tried to run prime95 torture test after first time computer didn't start without preset and it was running errorfree. Now after about month later, prime95 ran only 1h 52min.
    Anybody else having same problems?
Is there many revisions of that board, perhaps newer?
    System:
    KT6 Delta FIS2R
    XP 2500+
    512Mb M-TEC 400MHz
    Club 3D Radeon 8500
    360W PSU
    Samsung SATA-Drive

I don't think there is a problem with hard disks, same problem was with Seagate only and with Samsung only. Now with this new board, these hangings on startup happens so randomly, that I'm willing to believe that my PSU can't give enough power.
Those stability issues were probably caused overheated NorthBridge. It was too hot to touch. I changed bigger fan to CPU -heatsink and now it also blows to NB and it's much cooler. Prime95 has been running 12 hours no with no errors. Gotta see and hope it runs errorfree for next 12 hours too.
Maybe I was just scared because last FIS2R became so unstable that even if I put all setting as (s)low as possible, it wouldn't work.
Windows is just fine, I made fresh install couple of week ago and I don't have net at home so it should be quite clean..
Thank's to all of you, at least I know now to try replace PSU if there is problems..

  • KT6 Delta FIS2R BIOS stopped detecting IDE1 & 2 optical drives

I am working on a new system that has developed an unusual (to me) problem. The system is partially built and consists to date of the following:
    1. Chieftec MA-01BND case with Super-Flower TTGI TT-520SS (520 Watt) power supply.
    2. MSI KT6 Delta FIS2R motherboard with an AMD XP2600 CPU and one stick of Corsair CMX512-2700C2 RAM.
    3. Two Mitsumi MTM-1.44BL floppy drives.
    4. Two Maxtor 6Y080MO HDD’s connected to SATA 1 and SATA 2, not in RAID.
    5. Sony DDU1621BK DVD/CD ROM mastered on IDE1.
    6. Sony DWU10A-B2 DVD/CD RW 1 mastered on IDE2.
    7. Asus V9520 VS AGP video card.
    8. Windows 98SE installed on HDD1.
Everything was operating properly, and I was installing software and drivers for peripherals, when the following problem appeared.
At boot-up, the MB logo pops right up; but then, it takes approximately 80 seconds for the BIOS to initiate. Boot-up then proceeds as normally, and Windows 98SE initiates normally. However, neither optical drive appears in Program Manager; and, pushing the “open” button on either drive fails to open the tray.
After the BIOS initiates, the usual message directing one to press the “DEL” key for access to BIOS Setup never appears. However, if the “DEL” key is held down anyway, the system will enter Setup. Note that there is also a delay of approximately 80 seconds for this to initiate.
Once into Setup, the “Standard CMOS Features” page indicates no IDE devices. Resetting the detections to “Auto” across the board makes no difference. Resetting the CMOS via the “Clear CMOS Jumper” and via removing the CMOS battery changes nothing except that the CMOS returns to the default settings, and the BIOS still fails to detect the optical drives.
Since SATA1 and SATA2 are detected and operating, I believe that the chipset is OK because they are served by the same Drive Station on the chipset as IDE1 and IDE2 which aren’t detected and operating. I also consider damage to the motherboard itself to be an unlikely cause because that can’t account for all of the systems, either. I suspect the BIOS because of the following:
    1. The BIOS is so slow to initiate, as is the entrance into setup.
    2. The direction to press the “DEL” key for access to BIOS Setup never appears.
    3. The BIOS has stopped detecting the drives on IDE1 and IDE2.
    4. All of these functions that take place prior to chipset initiation.
Does anyone know what happened and what needs to be done to return the BIOS to normal operation? Or, is this a board failure, after all?

OK, what is BIOS eventually booting from? Is your SATA working?
What appears to be happenning is that the BIOS times out while trying to detect the IDE's (in this case, optical drives) and then just goes ahead and boots. The SATA's are working fine, as is Windows, once I wait out the time out for the BIOS. Except, of course, Windows also can't see and doesn't indicate in Program Manager the opticals that the BIOS couldn't find, which makes sense. The odd thing in this scenario is that, once the BIOS times out and goes on, it does not provide the customary message to hit "DEL" to enter Setup (but holding down "DEL" when the BIOS procedes will take me to Setup anyway!
I talked to eSupport today, and the techie says it's a BIOS problem that their update will resolve. Well, of course it WILL; they sell updates (duhhh). Being the trusting soul I am, I'd like some independent confirmation. I've posted this on 4 forums hoping to catch someone who has seen this happen before, in addition to contacting eSupport (Amibios's update shop) and MSI Support.
MSI's Support Department is, of course, silent, as usual.

  • K7T 266 PRO2 RU - RAID 0 Array to KT6 Delta-FIS2R

    :confused2:Hi all,
    I currently have a K7T266PRO2 RU board running 2x 80GB IBM drives in a RAID 0.
I'm looking to upgrade the board to a new KT6 Delta-FIS2R, but will I be able to migrate the RAID array to the new board without losing my data?
Its either that or a PCI Promise Fastrack PCI adapter, which I don't particularly want to do; and I cant back off the 120GB Im currently storing onto any other media (no splashing out on an LTO drive is out of the question)
    Please help!

Well I went out and got the board and an upgraded PSU (my 300w Aopen wouldn't cut it). - Now a Tsunami 400W (3.3v/28a, 5v/40a, 12v/18a)
Configured the two 80GB drives on the P20378, and Presto! The stripe set is detected and all data accessible. Had some problems getting it to boot into XP even after a repair +all the new drivers, so I just rebuilt the OS.
    However,
I am still experiencing some issues; every now and then XP seems to hang and on reboot the Promise bios cant find either one or both of the drives!
    Weird I tell you.....
I am forced to wait a while (it seems to detect at least one drive after about 3mins), power up the machine, and then delete the raid set and recreate it in the Promise bios before it will boot to XP again!
I've work in IT for 8 years and never seen anything like this before on any HW platform. Has anyone seen anything like this before?

  • Changed from K7N to KT6 Delta-FIS2R

Well, it took some time, but I finally got a motherboard in exange from my K7N2-Delta ILSR.  I picked KT6-Delta FIS2R.  Since I received that board, I had a few annoying problems.  First, The CPU temp was around 60C in windows!  Then, when I formatted the hard drive to install XP again, it crashed and would not even restart.  I reseted the BIOS and I had a message telling me the CMOS was damaged or corrupted !?! Did anybody had the same problems with this board?  Is it just defective and need to be returned ?
    Here are my specs:
    CPU: AMD XP 3000+
    MOBO: MSI KT6 Delta FIS2R
    Video: MSI GF FX 5900 TD128 :D
    Sound: Onboard sound
Memory: Crucial, 2X512K (Non dual channel)
    Operating sys: Windows XP Home
(By the way, is it possible to see the CPU frequency in the AMI Bios?  I can only find FSB frequency?)
    Thanks for the help,

  • Power Up probs with kt6 delta fis2r

I've recently changed my mother board and given my kt6 delta fis2r to my dad. It came out of my comp in fine working condition (earthed when removing etc.) It's now in my dad's case and when it's switched on it immidiatly switches off again. The bios was updated to 5.5 but was working for weeks before being moved. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advanced.

Just spoken to him, he's had the board out on the box connected it accross and it does the same, it's not actually getting far enough to give anything on the d-bracket. I've got a spare power supply here that isn't a Q-Tec and we're gonna try it on that first. My bro has also had probs this weekend so I'm told, he had a KT6V with the same power supply, and is now running my dads kt4 ultra. My bros PSU isn't liking my dad's comp either, so I'm now wondering if it's something to do with the 4 pin power plug on both PSU's? Still confused tho as I havn't had any probs with the board while it was on my Q-tec PSU, just lucky I guess?
Thanks for all of the replies, I'll be changing my PSU asap.

  • MSI KT6 DELTA FIS2R problems

Well, I finally received my new KT6 DELTA FIS2R motherboard (I replaced my K7N2 Delta ILSR).  After getting the wrong model and one with missing parts...  I think I received a defective one!  I tried to format and make a new installation of Win Xp.  While it tried to make its first boot, the thing crashed and it would not reboot.  I tried resetting the BIOS and then i got the message: CMOS corrupted or damaged. (The diagnostic led indicated the same thing).  I experienced another problem,  while I was using my computer, the CPU was running at 60C, in windows! (before reinstalling). Does anybody has the same problems with their KT6 boards...  Does it need to be returned?
    Thanks for the help,
    Valkyr

From your post its not totally clear where you are at. Does the system still POST?
First of all, it is normal to get some kind of error message the first time after clearing cmos. Entering bios or hitting the key for "load defaults" will make that go away.  If you do that and errors still happen in bios then you have more serious problems.
As far as the temp goes, redo the cpu installation making sure you totally remove all the old thermal pad/compound and use proper amount of new stuff.

  • Msi Kt6 Delta Fis2r

I have question about MSI KT6 DELTA Fis2r. Why in CoreCenter I don't have System Temp??? In CoreCenter I can see sys temp, but it's NB temp , and in the place of NB Temp is blank.

    Hello!
I had the same kind of readings. System temps and NB temps are pretty much the same thing and I don't think there is one sensor for the NB and one for the system as a whole.
If I'm right, it is probably an installation/software problem. Have you tried reinstalling CoreCenter? Do you have any other monitoring program installed?
Found I do not trust CoreCenter and got rid of it. Can do what I need in BIOS.

  • MSI KT6 DELTA-FIS2R Bundled stuff

    Hi!
I Bougth a MSI KT6 DELTA-FIS2R, and expected some more bundled stuff. Does anyone know whats supposed to be bundled? I need to know if my supplier is ripping me off.
I'm missing the D and S bracket, and some cables( only got 2 sata cables and 2 ide cables, but that doesnt matter much as I got all the cables I need).
    Trond

Hi Trond look at the side of your outer box find the white sticker it will list what accessories you should be getting. If you need the brackets you need to yell at MSI well not really you need to contact them by e-mail I wouldn't try phoning them you'll never get through. What MSI doesn't tell you up front is that even though the motherboard is a top of the line expensive sob the accessories are still optional so what you could get is a bundle worthy of the SR or LSR bone stock model. What you should get are the RED rounded cable(s), the SATA cables the power adapters are optional so I hope you can get ahold of some or have a drive with a legacy power plug. My box contained two manuals one for sata one for the board, two floppies, the standard issue MSI driver cd, I/O bracket, cheapo black rounded cable, and the firewire bracket nothin' else when I first opened the box I was looking all over at all the nooks, and cranies for the other stuff, but alas it wasn't there.  So long story short to determin what you get you have to look at that white sticker.

  • KT6 Delta FIS2R - Missing Parts?

ok, i recently bought a KT4 ultra to upgrade an old PC (was the KT4 FISR) and it came with heaps of accessories like serial ata cables, firewire bracket, sound bracket (s braket), and the D LED bracket (the one with the LED's and the USB ports...
now to my question, i bought a KT6 Delta FIS2R today and it had the firewire bracket only oh and the standard IDE cables.  ?( is this normal or should i be getting all the other accesories?
i rang the store and they said they didnt know we cant do much (jee thanks!),.. so i dunno what im missing or if thats what im supposed to get!
so can someone tell me the full story?!
    Xp3nd4bl

I too was upset over the missing things I had the exact same bundle firewire bracket, and the cheapo round cable(not the red booted kind) . The problem well really isn't a problem MSI doesn't do bundles like other motherboard makers even if they were to put the deluxe moniker on the name it wouldn't change anything. The fancy cables, and brackets, and fans are all optional my friend yes you payed for a top of the heap motherboard board, but you don't get top of the heap bundles with them. To check your real bundle look on the cardboard sleeve that hugs the motherboard box find the white sticker that lists what you got. I don't exactly agree with that policy, but you can call or e-mail MSI, and ask very nicely for whatever bundle items you should have recieved.

  • KT6 Delta-FIS2R, Raid config question

I am awaiting delivery of my new KT6 Delta-FIS2R board.
Am i right in thinking that it has 2 SATA raid controllers onboard (1 unknown & 1 Promise)?
I believe that each of these controllers can support 2 drives, correct?
So can i attatch say 3 drives and make 1 big raid 0 array?  or are the controllers independant and only support 2 drives each?
    Cheers
    Zarch

The unknown controlller is the integrated sata controller in the Via 8327 southbridge. Both controllers support two drives, but they are independent to each other so I'm afraid your out of luck my friend.
