KT6 Delta FISR + BIOS 5.6 + SATA

Beware of this combination - I had problem to pass booting of PC   I had to downgrade to BIOS 5.5 again and everything is all right now...
AthlonXP 3200+, KT6 Delta-FISR, 256MB RAM, HD Seagate  ST380013 AS etc.

Hello,
Would MSI bring out a BIOS with defects?
Its possible but they do test every BIOS carefully.
When you flashed your KT6, did you reconfigure all your settings?
enable PATA, SATA, boot from hard drive?
memory settings, CPU settings?

• KT6 Delta-FISR V2 fresh WinXP installation hang

Hola
I have recently bought a KT6-Delta FISR MoBo with a Athlon XP 2400+ and have encountered some problems.
After the MoBo finally managed to recognize the HDD and CD-ROM i have tried to install WinXP Pro. After boting from CD-ROM the inspection of the hardware setup takes forever and when initializing windows setup it runs sloooooooow before the system hangs when loading the initial system files. (like kernel debugger etc.).
When monitoring the temperatures in BIOS I get the impression that everythings nice and cool.
The system recognizes my CPU as 1800+ and the DRAM at 266MHz.
The PATA-IDE controller is enabled and the ATA-IDE disabled. (not using neither SATA nor RAID) i have tried to fiddle with the FSB and DRAM freq's but it crashed my system. Any suggestions to why my system wont get past Windows initial installation? To weak power? BIOS/hardware error/misconfig?
By the way, what is Broadcom NetXtreme Ethernet Boot Agent? Something which can/shoud be disabled?
Hail Santa!

By the way, everything is up and running.
The problem turned out to be the TDK CD-ROM which wouldn't read the WinXP CD.

• Northbridge cooling on KT6 Delta-FISR

KT6 delta FISR's have no active cooling, just a passive heatsink.
how much is this going to affect my overclocking of the FSB? its at 182mhz right now, aint tried more but if i DID stick on a fan would this help the case? and roughly by what mhz?
Also, since there is nothing to control the pci and agp busses, if i reached 200FSB, would this be really bad for the pci and agp bus? if not too bad, how bad on a scale of 1 to 10? and what's at risk? (or am i missing some options in the bios?)

don't really need more power, the only thing I want, is USB2.0, Firewire400, optical audio output, onboard Raid and some more oc features
Well, you'll like the KT6 Delta FIS2R for sure.
Of all the mobo's ive studied, none have as many USB2 inputs on the back of the board where all the other ports are. This has 6 ready for direct use without any pci slot blocking dongles. (8 with the USB2/Diagnostic lights dongle installed).
It sure has optical output, but the sound quality from it isnt as good as an Audigy.
The promise controller is very good, letting you use 2 PATA and 2 SATA at the same time.
Firewire use a pci slot blocking dongle but has 3 sockets (2 big and 1 small)
As for OC, ive tried above 200mhz FSB (208 Mhz) but it was a little unstable, not sure why, never really tested it out.

• KT6 Delta FISR & AMD 2500+

I have new MB KT6 Delta FISR and CPU Athlon 2500+ (1833 MHz) and I have problem.
The combination is working nice. But in BIOS I can see FSB=100 only.
And CPU is by Sandra identified as Athlon 1800+ Barton/Thorton on 1100 MHz.
THe BIOS high power is FSB=133 and notice get damage warning.
Then Sandra shows CPU 1900+ on 1435 MHz. I left it 133 and CPU temperature is about 62 deg.C.
Because I didn't check the CPU identification I am afraid to increase FSB to 166MHz.
The RAM Kingston 333 MHz is working on 200 MHz by SAndra.
The second question is the temperature of MB. Sandra warns that 52 deg.C is too high. The VIA chip has no cooler even if on the picture in MSI pages there is one. But it is the picture of the FISR2 I think.
Thank you for your advice.
Joe.

I would recommend using CPUZ to identify the processor. Sandra (and most programs) will recognize the processor as 1800+ because it is operating at 1100 mhz (100FSB). When you increase the FSB to 166 you will see that your processor will be identified as a 2500+. IMPORTANT: When you increase the FSB to 166, leave the multiplier at AUTO.
Another thing...I don't know if the processor operates at 85ºC but my 2500+ Barton operates when idle at 46ºC. You mentioned that when you increased the FSB to 133 you got a temperature of 62ºC. I think that is a little on the high side. Is your heatsink installed properly? Do you have good airflow inside the case?

• The strangest thing on a KT6 DELTA-FISR

Hi
I have a wierd problem with the onboard SATA Raid controller, when i press the and enter the SATA setup menu i cant select anything from the menu. It doesent respond to the up and down arrowkeys (as i should). The only function i can do is ESC and then Y / N .
And i cant install Windows before the disk is initialized in the SATA setup utility. But how can i do it when i doesent work?
I have disabled almost all of the mainboard functions(Sound, Com and LPT ports, LAN) thinking it might me a resource conflict but the result is the same...
I have eaven tryed a different keyboard(Yeah i know that was stupid  ) but i had to try. ..
I have no' idea on what to try next so i am hoping some of you have an idea?
My settup is:
KT6 DELTA-FISR mainboard
512 TwinMOS PC3200
200GB Western Digital Special edition (SATA)
ATI Xpert@play 8MB PCI
Chieftech 340W PowerSupply

When the installation prosess of Windows XP start i hit F6 and install the SATA and PATA drivers. But when i am suppose to select the harddrive and partition it Windows finds the drive but says something about "Windows cant access the drive" or something like that.
On my other PC i have an adaptec SATA controller and there i had to initialize the before using it(only 1 SATA drive connected). Are you shure i dont have to initialize the drive before installing?
Thx for your quick reply!

• KT6 Delta FISR gaming crashes

I have been having problems for a few weeks now, with random unexplainable crashes whilst gaming, sometimes the PC just drops back to windows XP, other times the whole machine just resets and reloads and tells me that windows has recovered from a serious error (send, don't send error report) caused by a device driver, still other times I get a BSOD with varying messages:PFN_LIST CORRUPT, IRQL_LESS NOT EQUAL, and then there is the scrambled unreadable BSOD accompanied by a loud sound from the speakers followed by reset and error report.
I must stress that this problem only occurs when gaming, Sim City 4 being its favourite victim, all other processes are unaffected, I can edit photos, surf and do all office work type apps.
I have tried reinstalling windows XP several times using various methods described in other threads but to no avail
All hardware in this machine worked perfectly in this combination on my Abit AT7 MAX2 mobo
AMD Athlon XP2800+
CoolerMaster Aero V HSF

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

o_0Received a new KT6 Delta at begining of Jan, everything was working fine, but lately the thing seems to be exhibiting exactly the same behaviour as the last one (as well as having the cold reboot thing).  These symptoms seem to be getting worse as time goes on, this is really unusual, normally if you have a hardware prob it doesn't come on over time, does it?
This is really annoying all of my hardware ran fine when I put it back on my Abit AT7Max2, I did about 75 hours of gaming, and not a crash in sight.
Has anyone got any more insights into this problem
I am running with AGP fastwrites on, but with the AGP write option disabled in smartgart

• MSI KT6 Delta-FISR - D-Link diags "Boot attempt" failing

Hi,
I need some inspiration for this problem.
My sister's machine has been running fine (ish) for about 5 months. The sound has been "playing up" recently, sounding like it's stuttering. Anyway, that's not why I'm here.
At the moment, the machine won't boot up at all. I had it booted up today, and it was working OK, then it froze (sister complained that it froze yesterday as well).
On reboot, all I'm getting is the Xtreme main screen, then nothing else. The D-Link diags are showing 1 RED, 2,3,4 green which is
"Boot Attempt- This will set low stack and boot via INT 19h". It does nothing else.
I can't get into the BIOS, not can I boot from floppy. Doesn't matter if the HD is connected or not, it still fails at the same point.
I've stripped the machine back to the basics, so only have 1 CD-ROM, 1 HD, 1 stick of ram, floppy drive, graphics card.
I've swapped the graphics card .. same problem.
dropped the ram from 2 to 1 stick and switched sockets ... same problem
Swapped the PSU .... same problem
Is the Motherboard knackered ?  Anyone got any more suggestions ??????
Thanks.

• Gaps while playing AC3 Sound through SPDIF on KT6-Delta FISR

Hi everybody,
I'm one of those lucky guys with a KT6-Delta FISR Board :D equipped with the C-Media 9739A OnBoard Soundchip and a S-Bracket from my old K7T266 Pro2 ( MS-6380 ) mainboard.
It works great. The only problem is, when I try to play
AC3-encoded Sound directly through SPDIF there are irregular gaps ( length = about half a second ) where no signal reaches my hifi system. Playing normal PCM-encoded Sound works fine, just AC3 is the problem.
I have the latest driver, the latest bios, the latest chipset driver from via & the latest Windows XP Prof. updates.  :]
I also tried different AC3 Filters ( from WinFast DVD, PowerDVD and the free ac3filter ) and a fresh WinXP Prof. installation. But nothing worked.
Always these stupid gaps.  ;(
The mysterious thing is: With my old MB and an extra pci soundcard with C-Media CMI8378 Chipset and optical SPDIF it works great.
Yeah, I know I could use the old one, but the KT6 OnBoard chip has some benefits  :]
Some information about my system:
- Athlon XP1800@1800(133x11,5) ( Palomino Core )
- Cooling: Copper Silent 2 TC by Arctic Cooling
- Enermax power supply ( +3,3V/35A, +5V/44A, +12V/15A)
- NVidia GeForce TI4600 from Leadtek ( i forgot: latest driver   )
- Western Digital WD1200JB HDD (120GB,7200 RPM,8MB Cache )
- RAM: 256 MB PC2100, CL2 by Apacer
- Home-theatre system: Sony STR-KSL5 ( dts,dolby digital/pro logic II, digital cinema sound, 2x optical digital input, 1x coaxial digital input )
- Connection between PC and hifi system: optical
Has anyone the same problem or maybe a solution or a suggestion ? Would be nice then, when he or she posts it here  )

A little mistake: The S-Bracket is from the KT4 Ultra FISR - Board ( MS-6590 ), sorry for that
@osnavi:
I don't know whether it's okay or not. I just thought, the S-Bracket is just a cable extension of the onboard pin-connector ( means: there are no necessary parts in it - except the current-optical coverter for optical out - and the whole functionality is on the board ).
Have you any idea, whether there's another S-Bracket for the KT6 series ?
@maesus:
I've tested all latest available drivers ( both from www.cmedia.com.tw  and from MSI via LiveUpdate3 ). All of them produced this gap.
Both drivers where tested with Coax out and Optical out.
I also tried to increase the PCI Latency in BIOS to give the sound chip more time for using the bus and therefore more time to transfer data. It didn't work, too.
I will now try the following:
- decreasing the FSB to 100 MHz ( just an idea  , maybe it helps )
- installing a generic ac'97 audio driver (in case something like this exists )
- well, bang my head on my hifi system
Any suggestions are still welcomed  )

• No DVD Sound - KT6 Delta FISR

Hello,
I'm in trouble with my motherboard KT6 Delta FISR : drivers are installed, configured, everything is ok, music is working, video CD also, but no sound if I try to run a DVD !?!? No mean to get sound on the analog output. Tried everything but cannot find the solution.
I think it could be a problem with sound output, for example sound only going on the digital output SPDIF and not on the anallog, but I need help to change that !
Can anyone help me please ?
Thanks a lot
Chris

Hi,
Yes I'm quite sure, it's not the first time I configure an MSI motherboard, settings are tu rear output, and configured for stereo speakers. Music, wav, VCD is working, only DVD has no sound. Is there a special setting, hided somewhere, that would be something like "disable analog output if digital sound present" ?
Thanks
Chris

• KT6-Delta FISR questions

I have finally put together my pc and I want to ask a few questions.
The Latest BIOS update says it will update the SATA rom to version 2.31.
My first question is, will it make the SATA performance faster?
My Second question: the manual says the FISR comes with a gigabit LAN but yet all the drivers I have tried can only do 10/100. Why is that?
My KT6-delta has not crashed since it has been working and I am very pleased with MSI, the board layout is very good and I like all the BIOS options.

1 question....I tried latest bios and it made my SATA raid array slower....however the cpu idle function does work.
2.Gigabit lan connection is only good if computer you are linked to has same. (better for small lan)

• KT6 Delta FIS2R BIOS stopped detecting IDE1 & 2 optical drives

I am working on a new system that has developed an unusual (to me) problem. The system is partially built and consists to date of the following:
1. Chieftec MA-01BND case with Super-Flower TTGI TT-520SS (520 Watt) power supply.
2. MSI KT6 Delta FIS2R motherboard with an AMD XP2600 CPU and one stick of Corsair CMX512-2700C2 RAM.
3. Two Mitsumi MTM-1.44BL floppy drives.
4. Two Maxtor 6Y080MO HDD’s connected to SATA 1 and SATA 2, not in RAID.
5. Sony DDU1621BK DVD/CD ROM mastered on IDE1.
6. Sony DWU10A-B2 DVD/CD RW 1 mastered on IDE2.
7. Asus V9520 VS AGP video card.
8. Windows 98SE installed on HDD1.
Everything was operating properly, and I was installing software and drivers for peripherals, when the following problem appeared.
At boot-up, the MB logo pops right up; but then, it takes approximately 80 seconds for the BIOS to initiate. Boot-up then proceeds as normally, and Windows 98SE initiates normally. However, neither optical drive appears in Program Manager; and, pushing the “open” button on either drive fails to open the tray.
After the BIOS initiates, the usual message directing one to press the “DEL” key for access to BIOS Setup never appears. However, if the “DEL” key is held down anyway, the system will enter Setup. Note that there is also a delay of approximately 80 seconds for this to initiate.
Once into Setup, the “Standard CMOS Features” page indicates no IDE devices. Resetting the detections to “Auto” across the board makes no difference. Resetting the CMOS via the “Clear CMOS Jumper” and via removing the CMOS battery changes nothing except that the CMOS returns to the default settings, and the BIOS still fails to detect the optical drives.
Since SATA1 and SATA2 are detected and operating, I believe that the chipset is OK because they are served by the same Drive Station on the chipset as IDE1 and IDE2 which aren’t detected and operating. I also consider damage to the motherboard itself to be an unlikely cause because that can’t account for all of the systems, either. I suspect the BIOS because of the following:
1. The BIOS is so slow to initiate, as is the entrance into setup.
2. The direction to press the “DEL” key for access to BIOS Setup never appears.
3. The BIOS has stopped detecting the drives on IDE1 and IDE2.
4. All of these functions that take place prior to chipset initiation.
Does anyone know what happened and what needs to be done to return the BIOS to normal operation? Or, is this a board failure, after all?

OK, what is BIOS eventually booting from? Is your SATA working?
What appears to be happenning is that the BIOS times out while trying to detect the IDE's (in this case, optical drives) and then just goes ahead and boots. The SATA's are working fine, as is Windows, once I wait out the time out for the BIOS. Except, of course, Windows also can't see and doesn't indicate in Program Manager the opticals that the BIOS couldn't find, which makes sense. The odd thing in this scenario is that, once the BIOS times out and goes on, it does not provide the customary message to hit "DEL" to enter Setup (but holding down "DEL" when the BIOS procedes will take me to Setup anyway!
I talked to eSupport today, and the techie says it's a BIOS problem that their update will resolve. Well, of course it WILL; they sell updates (duhhh). Being the trusting soul I am, I'd like some independent confirmation. I've posted this on 4 forums hoping to catch someone who has seen this happen before, in addition to contacting eSupport (Amibios's update shop) and MSI Support.
MSI's Support Department is, of course, silent, as usual.

• KT6 Delta FISR - 1 Serial ATA - WinXP stability Problem

Ok, this week I received my newly chosen motherboard the KT600 -Delta FISR. Along with it the new Barton-XP-2600+ 512 MB of RAM and for the fun I threw in a 80 Gig HD-Maxtor Diamondmax Plus9, next to the old 20 Gig Maxtor.
First installation of XP on the new system went smooth, threw in the XP-SATA-RAID driver on floppy and continued with NTFS formatting while installing XP. On a certain moment when it was running I encountered problems not being able to boot XP from the SATA drive.
I decided to remove the 20 gig physically by decoupling of the connectors and to do a new installation of XP. Also flashing the bios with the new 5.20 that had some SATA-notes attached to it which had to be solved.
During the setup the message "this bla bla bla is now windows-logo certified do you want to continue with the setup". On these occasions I answered yes, deciding these must be originating from the SATA-drivers.
After the setup, a complete windows-XP-SP1 automatic update was performed and some basic drivers for my Sapphire-ATI-9600-Pro were installed. To make it short: the baby ran like a dream.
-> then it happened for the second time, totally out of the blue - just when I entered my CD to install MS Office I got a blue screen with a page error after which the system went down and I could not boot anymore from the SATA.
At the moment I am running with a decoupled SATA on a 20 GIG Maxtor with a standard IDE. NO PROBLEMS.
Does anybody have a clue as to which element may cause this instability in WindowsXP? Or who is experiencing similar problems?

Maxtor SATA could be the culprit. I've seen enough issues with this drive...
