KT6 FSB and Vcore

I've just updated the corecenter software to 1.5.8 version. and I apply the auto overclocking option.. my XP 2600+ is running at 2.33 Ghz = 183Mhz (FSB) x 12.5 (multiplier) and the vcore is 1.65.
I want to know if I want to overclock my cpu, I must change the vcore voltage. Also I don't know if is good to keep my cpu at 1.65 v or change it.. please suggest something about that.
Thanks

hi,
To be honest you only need to increase the voltages if it wont boot with the overclocked settings. So if it works leave it.
My XP 2500+ runs at 2.2GHz fine at default 1.65 voltage.

  • Question on FSB, CPU ratio and VCore

    Hi:
I have been reading several postings on overclocking CPU. As far I can tell, people recommended increasing the FSB freq. in the BIOS until it cannot boot any longer.
I have KT3 Ultra, Athlon XP 1800+, and DDR 333MHz.
?( How does changing the FSB freq. affects DDR freq? Is it 1:2 ratio? For example, if FSB = 133 MHz, then DDR is 266 MHz. If so, is FSB limited by DDR rated freq?
?( Does changing the FSB actually changes the clock signal feeds into the CPU?
?( Does changing the FSB only affect CPU? Does it affects the PCI bus?
?( What is CPU ratio? Is it an internal clock multiplier to the CPU?
?( How does CPU VCore affect the overclock?

  • KT6 FSB issues

    Heyas!  First post...
    Just installed a KT6 Delta-LSR (6590) with a Barton XP2500 333FSB.
Default value in BIOS shows 100mhz.  CoreCenter shows 100x11.
I cleared the BIOS and set to default (just in case), then kicked the FSB up to 166.  Computer booted but the mouse hung.  I'm thinking CPU/System Bus problem, but that's starting to get over my head.
Been searching here and google groups for FSB problems.  I noticed many people having similar issues, but could never find a good solution.
So, then, my question is has this problem been resolved?  Can anyone give me the precise settings in the BIOS?
I have the latest BIOS, 5.20, I believe.
    KT6-Delta-LSR
    Enermax 385 PS
    1gig Crucial PC3200
    AMD XP2500 Barton 333FSB
    MSI GeForce4 Ti4200
    120gig Seagate
    80gig Maxtor
    generic DVD and CDRW
    Koolance water cooled case (PC601?)
    no overclocking desired

    Richard,
Odd, I had been reading in this forum, maybe when I went to register I came back to the wrong forum.  In any case, thank you.
    OKill,
Yes, it's a USb mouse.  Logitech MX700 cordless/rechargeable.  I did install SP1, fully patched, and the USB2.0 drivers.
I went back in the BIOS and disabled the "SpreadSpectrum" (or something to that effect).  I made a few other minor housekeeping changings (deleted floppy drive, changed boot up sequence, etc.)
I rebooted and everything came up fine.  I'll see how it handles over the next few days.
    Thanks for the help!

  • K9N Neo and vcore

As I see on the BIOS (1.3), there's no way to adjust the vcore :(
Can you tell me what's the best way to achieve that? perhaps ClockGen?
There's any modded BIOS for his board?
    Thanks.

I think I'm slowly getting the whole game on my new board.
Had to learn about RAM timings (5.5.5.12-1T or 2T for 4gb) and had to learn how to get teh best from the MOBO, I mean lowering HT and ram timings in order to make it work. This was the thoughest part, becasue is hard to overclock with 4gb RAM.
Had to add an extra FAN feeding air from the side panel, VGA and chipset likes that.
I ordered a better heatsink from Zalman for the Northbridge chip. Because the nForce550 chip gets really hot, it hurts if you touch the stock heatsink for a long time (I think is a very bad heatsink by the way)....I assume all other NV chipsets are hot too...but better cooled perhaps. (The HS on my old Intel MOBO is a crown type one with multiple spikes, it works 300% better)
About temps...I could reach 2.4ghz without any glitch on my machine, and max temp was 47 while running a intensive app. And chipset temp didn't changed at all.
Didn't tried more OC since I'm sill waiting for my Arctic Freezer cooler.
So, just for the record...if anyone else has this MOBO and wants to OC.
K9N Neo quick, personal OC guide (not general, but it will help)
THE RULE OF THUMB IS "CHECK TEMPERATURES ALL THE TIME, FROM BIOS AND FROM CORE CENTER"
The second most important rule is...keep the system cool, it likes a good amount of airflow.
Third important rule is: If you want to change something physical in your mahcine TURN OFF THE PSU FIRST!...you may end provoking a shortcut and burn something (most likely RAM, which is very sensitive)
A final rule, not less important is...Always discharge yourself from any static (go to the toillete and grab a WC metal tube for a second or so)...a spark can DAMAGE a ramstick while handling it, remember we are surrounded by things that could charge you with static...including polyester clothes, plastic bags....how many times you got a spark while opening your fridge?...a spark like that on a ramstick and you can say bye bye to it.
    1) Set RAM timings at the specified values, change to 2T if you find any trouble,
    2) Disable Spread Spectrum for the CPU, and Disable auto FAN speed, disable Cool n Quiet, disable all stuff you don't need on your machine such as parallel and serial ports.
    3) Set RAM clock to 333 or less.
    4) Set HT to manual and set it to 800mhz...the more you want to OC the more you need to lower this.
    5) Slowly increase CPU FSB....by 5mhz...monitor temp again, raise more, monitor temp...etc...
    6) Even if you OC a lot and can POST, that doesn't guarantee you can boot Windows. So check that too.
Now, some troubleshooting if you can't POST at all.
Rule of thumb here is, DONT PANICK! panicking could make you try nonsense things and you may end with a disaster.
    1) If the system don't POST, try waiting 10sec and press the reset button, sometimes you need to try this more than one time...sometimes 5...but it works.
    2) If the reset button still doesn't works and you can't POST, is most likely that your RAM timings aren't right at all...so try removing some RAM then start the PC again, that will reset CMOS to default settings. (or give you an option to do that by pressing F2)
    3) If still doesn't work, dude...you burnt the "I'm a potty mouth" out....next time be more careful.
Thank a lot for all the cool helpful guys here, really appreciated.

  • MSI KT6 Delta and xp2600(333) cpu clock

I am new to this so thanks in advance to everyone. This may not be a pure overclocking issue but it seemed like a good active forum.
Just put together a kt6 delta lsr and xp2600(thoroughbred B 333 fsb machine). The 2600 according to AMD(and everything else I have seen) should be clock speed of 166 x 12.5 as the multiplier...so up to 2.088 GHz. The BIOS on this board doesn't separate the 12.5 from the 13(I hope there are others out there that have had this) as it is 12.5/13.
Now when I install and do the BIOS stuff if I pick the 'auto' selection I get BSOD with some cryptic error code. If I manually pick the 12.5/13 multiplier it doesn't work either. I have managed to get 163,164, 165 'auto' or 12.5/13 at times but it is not stable. Sisandra didn't like it at all.
I am currently settling for 166 or 167 x12 as this has been extremely stable and functional(3-4 hour video compressions have worked great). If I go any higher to 168-170 I have had some issues and not totally stable(not as bad as the 12.5/13 mulitplier I used with 163,164 etc).
Now since the 'manual' multiplier is 12.5/13 together does this mean by choosing 'auto' it uses the same one, it seems like it so hence it may be trying to push the 13 at which point the RAM or something may be causing errors. ??? ( just some thoughts as I attempt to reason)
Almost all my components are new except for the harddrives but can't imagine that has anything to do with it all. So basically I have a good cpu but can't utilize it to the fullest and have to 'overclock' just to get to where it should be operating. I can't seem to approach that either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. If there are settings/setup that I forgot please just ask.
    Thanks.

    Thanks.
My temperatures seem fine. Low 40's. Even after 4-5 hours of video compression with the 167 x12 that I am using I only hit 43 or so.
I do wonder if anyone else out there as they same set up in terms of the same xp2600-333 chip and this motherboard. That choice of multipliers still seems odd.  I think I may have mentioned it but does the 'auto' use just 'select' from the choice of multiples that we can pick manually? Unless it creates its own multiple that must be the problem. Can it oscillate between the 12.5 and 13 and hence just screw things up?
    Thanks.

  • ? about FSB and HT

I am new to overclocking and setting up the BIOS
I download PCmark2002 and it states I have a 200 FSB when I thought it was suppose to be 800.  When I go into the corecenter it also states 200 but I am able to change it.
I am wondering what should the FSB read in the corecenter and should I change it.  Right now its reading 200.  And if I should change it, should it be done in the core center or in the BIOS and how.
I was also wondering about Hypertreading Tech.  and how do I know its inabled.  I remeber reading on Tom's hardware about enabling HT.
Any help would be greatly appriciated.
Any tips on how to overclock it and to what degree would be a great help

Do a search on Core Center on the Overclockers and Modding forum and you'll find a concensus of opinion.
Some people use it. I don't like it. Most other people don't like it. I'd advise not using it and using BIOS.
Your FSB is quad-pumped (4x) to get your CPU frequency base frequency, hence the FSB 200 for a 800 MHz base frequency. Your memory is DDR (dual data rate - 2x) so for 200 FSB you get a memory frequency of 400 MHz.
    Things to try:-
    In BIOS
    Frequency/Voltage Control
    Dynamic Overclocking: Disabled
    Performance Mode: Slow
    CPU Ratio Selection: Locked
    DRAM Frequency: Auto
    Spread Spectrum: Disabled
Adjust CPU Bus Clock (Mhz): 200
    DDR Clock(Mhz): 333 (Greyed out)
    Adjust AGP/PCI Clock(Mhz): 66.66/33.33
    CPU Vcore Adjust: No
    CPU Vcore: 1.5250V (Greyed Out)
    DDR Power Voltage: 2.70V
    AGP Power Voltage: 1.55V
If you had to change Performance Mode to Slow, you will have to Save and Exit and then re-enter BIOS for all the following options to be available. If it was already Slow move straight to
    Advanced Chipset Features
    DRAM Timing Setting
Configure DRAM Timing by SPD: Disabled
    CAS Latency: 3 Clocks
    RAS Precharge: 4 Clocks
RAS to CAS Delay: 8 Clocks
    Burst Length: 4 Clocks
    Integrity Mode: Disabled
With these settings we can start to overclock your system. SLOWLY increase the FSB (CPU Bus Clock) in increments of 5. Save and Exit. Test memory with MemTest. Boot into Windows and stress test (prime95). Once you start to get errors, back off 2 or 3 MHz.
ALL OVERCLOCKING CARRIES A RISK OF COMPONENT DAMAGE OR FAILURE!!!
IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO LOSE IT, DON'T DO IT.
Your memory is likely to be the holding factor here, as it is only rated to 400 MHz!!!
If you do decide to try it, let us know how far you get, we can advise on further optimisation.
Hope this helps a little. Good Luck.

  • KT6 Delta and memory problems

Before I begin let me post my specs:
    Mobo: KT6 Delta
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2700+ @ 166 FSB
    RAM: 1 stick Corsair 512MB DDR400
    P/S: 430W
Now that that's out of the way..... I got a stick of Elixir 256MB DDR466 today for Christmas.  Now keep in mind the KT6 Delta is only supposed to support up to DDR400, but it should still work, right?  Well, when I put in the new memory, my mobo only reads the new 256MB stick.  The old 512MB stick works fine by itself, though.  I've tried switching the sticks around and putting them in different slots, but nothing seems to work.  I even tried forcing the SDRAM Frequency to 400MHz under the BIOS... nothing.
Should there be a way to make this configuration work with certain BIOS settings?  Or will I have to return the gift?
    Thanks.

I can understand getting a problem from mixing different memory speeds, but we have 4 computers in our household and we've been mixing sizes and brands for a while now, so your post took me by surprise.  In fact, my youngest brother used to have a 256, a 64, and a 16MB stick, all of different brands, and some of which were overclocked.   From my experience I wouldn't say it "almost always" causes a problem.  I don't doubt your expertise though, you've clearly been here longer than me.  I'm just trying to understand what's going on, and this whole thing has left me a bit confused.
But whatever.  I'll see if the gift can be returned. Thanks.

  • KT6 VLSR and HDD S-ATA unable to install Windows XP Home

    Hi,
I can't install Windows XP home edition (with SP2 included) onto my computer (KT6 VLSR with HDD Seagate S-ATA 160 Go) : during the windows copying file process, the famous blue screen appears and Windows installation fails.
Of course, I have flashed the Bios to the latest version (with the latest RAID driver) from the MSI global website, made a floppy with the VIA PIDE/SATA RAID Drivers & Utility (downloaded from MSI website, and then from VIA's) and used it (F6) so Windows could detect the hard drive.
I checked the RAID BIOS, the CPU, the memory, the HDD, the power supply (Antec Sonata 380 W) in the BIOS : everything is fine. There is just no way to install Windows XP.
I checked each component with anoter computer.
And I searched and searched again the forum. Surprise! I am not alone but nobody has solved the problem so far. Shall I believe that MSI motherboards (with VIA chipsets) are definitely faulty? Nothing can be found in the FAQ or in the knowledge base.
So I am going to buy an old IDE hard drive for I am sure it will work (my previous specs). I will use the S-ATA HDD for storage purpose only and avoid MSI products.

So if the SATA disk is one whole partition, we might have a problem?!
Unfortunately I don't know.  My hard drives are filled so I am unable to find out. What I need to do is get another 250GB SATA, and once I do I will unhook my first one and try installing windows xp without any service packs on the full 250GB and see if it works. The only problem is it will be at least a couple of months until I get the drive.
Quote from: Fredrik Åsenius on 12-August-05, 05:45:15
I know the top speed of SATA data transfer to and fro the disk could be 150 MB/s, and I also know that this seldom or never can be reached, due to hard disk mechanics etc. What is the normal or average transfer speed of a modern SATA disk?
It has been awhile since I benched my drives but I believe they came in at 67MBps when everything was new, now a year and a couple of months later it is to about 48MBps, but I have all my drives almost completely filled. I could be completely off base, but both tests were done using the Nero check (so it knows the fastest drive to cache files in). It is just a matter of me trying to remember them.   (My brain is fried )
    Good Luck

  • FSB/ and shut down

My first post here please help. i tried doing a search on my problem but problem still here.
I just put this machine together last night and a couple of issues have come up.
1: Machine boots up fine and shuts down fine but when i choose restart from the windows option (windows xp pro) machine just hangs at windows is shutting down screen.
    2: I am running a 3.0E/ghz 800fsb HT  prescott on a MSI 865pe Neo2 how do i know im running at 8oo fsb
3: And also on some shut downs my Monitor is telling me im out of frequency try resetting your resolution. im running it at 1024x768 at 85 hz on a 19" KDS monitor.
    System specs.
    3.0E/ghz 800fsb HT  1 Stick 512  3200/400 ram

    52X cd drive
    ATI 9800 pro 128
    2 WD IDE drives
    TRue 420 watt PWR supply

Well i used all the suggestions in here and fixed all my problems,
1 i cleaned my heatsink and processor off with alchohol then applied artic silver now im running at 39 to 40c no load 50 to 54c with a heavy load.
2 updated my bios thru windows to 2.5 this solved my windows restart issue, now instead of pushing the restart button on the case i can do it thru windows,.
But: 1 new issue has come up when i do a cold boot up something comes up and says disk boot failure please remove disk and press enter to continue ( all drives are empty), but when i push the reset button it reboots up into windows no problem,
one of the things i have tried was going into the boot sequence and moving it around placing the hdd first then floppy then cd rom at one time it didn't even show my hard drive in the options but when i pushed reset it showed up.  please help im stummped.

  • Processor temperature and vcore problem(865GVM-3V)

    Hello
When I start the 3D game the vcore voltage from 1.44V fall to 1.36V, and the system after some minutes reboot.
Once after reboot, windows automatically shuted down, because the processor temperature was abnormal. After this error the CPU temperature after boot, from 43 C rise to 51 C, and the vcore voltage fluctuate from 1.36 to 1.44.
My PSU give only 16A on 12V. Do my mainboard cause the problem.

    Fortron 400watts with 2 x 18A @ +12v1/2 rail?? Impossible!
    That'll be a good 550watts PSU!
Quote from: Frankenputer on 10-August-07, 12:30:22
According to Fortron, the +12V rails do not exceed 348 Watts which means there is a total of 29A total available for the rails to utilize. If one rail is drawing 18 amps then the other could not draw more than 11.
Quote from: NovJoe on 10-August-07, 17:29:59
    This is the PSU right?
    Fortron ATX-400PN
    Max Rated Output 400 Watts
    +3.3V 30A
    +5V 28A
    +12V 18A (+12V1)  18A (+12V2)
    Combined +12v1&2 29A
    Efficiency >70%
It does looks powerful but even so, according to the specs given, it is about 450watts with 314watts continuous efficiency.
Yes you are correct. Fotron PSU are tricky, they are under rated. example: 300W Fortron produce real power of 380W and so on. that is valid for all Fotron PSUs. its their firm policy.

  • K7n2 delta2 platinum - changed FSB and can't boot or clear CMOS

    Hi all,
    specs first:
    KnN2 Delta2 Platinum board
    Athalon Barton 2800 XP
2 sticks of 256 pc 3200 ram and one stick of 512 pc3200
Last night I went into the bios of my new board, and unthinkingly set to CELL settings to manual and jacked up the FSB way up. Shouldn't have been working on my computer after a 12 hour shift. :( Anyway, it didn't boot when I reset. I tried clearing my CMOS and have unplugged the power, taken out the battery and the whole shabang in the CMOS clearing faq, but its still not giving me any beep codes or anything at all. I suspect my CMOS isin't clearing, however I'm wondering if its possible I've fried my new barton 2800 XP, my board, my ram, or all of the above. :( :(. I've read a ton of other delta boards having a safe mode jumper, j10, which will reset the fsb setting to 100 mhz, but can't find it anywhere for the delta2 platinum.
It was booting and getting into my OS before this, can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, this worked, however it was an acident. To test my chip I threw in my 1800 xp chip, cleared the CMOS again (which apparently was working fine) and suddenly it started posting beep codes. I assumed that meant I had burned my 2800 and returned it to the place of purchase. They threw it on a board and said it was posting fine, but I got my money back anyway. Going to go pick up another 2800 this weekend probably.
Anyway, I havn't actually tried the insert method. Oh, and yea, I jacked the FSB up to 300 or so... I think I'm somewhat confused, as I've got a 333 chip in a 2800 so I think I've mistaken something fundamental here.

I suspect my CMOS isin't clearing
Actually, it probably is clearing. On earlier K7N2, when the CMOS is cleared everything is set to default EXCEPT the FSB setting, that's why it's usually necessary when the FSB has been pushed too high by the user, to use the FSB Jumper (SAFE/USER) to reset the FSB to default.
I fail to see the wisdom of removing this jumper from later boards!
You should also try substituting your CPU with another - just to make sure it isn't the CPU that's at fault.
Sorry I wasn't of more help.

  • Kt4 ultra fisr and vcore

Hi, I am using a 1800+ JIHUB DLT3C with this board. The strange thing is that the bios seems to only allow a maximum vcore setting of 1.6v with the DLT3C cpus. Was wondering if anyone else has encountered this, and if its possible to somehow increase the vcore. Thanks.

That is true. Your vcore range is 1.45-1.6 volts(as was mine originally). To go to a higher range, you will have to close some L11 bridges on your chip. I closed all but the middle one, making my default voltage 1.75 and my range now is 1.7-1.85 volts.

  • Difference between KT6 Delta and KT6V ?

What is the difference between the 2 boards ? I ordered a KT6V board from E-buyer in the UK and received a KT6 Delta one which is slightly more expensive. Am I right in saying that the KT6 Delta supports IDE Raid ?

KT6 delta has a different audio codec and NIC
KT6v has realtek audio codec and NIC
KT6 delta has Cmedia codec and broadcom NIC
As for RAID, They all have serial raid,
    KT6V - SR = serial raid
    KT6v - LSR = lan, serial raid
kt6 delta = LSR = lan, serial raid
kt6 delta = FISR = Firewire, lan, serial raid
    kt6 delta = FIS2R = Firewire,lan, serial raid + promise serial raid

  • Who gets past 240 FSB and with what BIOS/settings?

I hope that folks at MSI are working hard for a BIOS fix.
I don't understand how some guys are reporting FSBs of higher than 240, but I'm totally stuck there, no matter what I do. BIOS 1.2B5 made no difference at all.
Just you MSI guys make sure that all these are BIOS issues and not hardware related. My CPU has not reached its limit at 240FSB and I want it.  Oh, and same goes to AMD   for locking the higher multis. If they were not locked, I'd have been just perfectly pleased

Using the 1:1 ratio, I have managed to get to 2.15GHz (10x215fsb), with the memory at 2-3-5-2 (2.85V).  CPU voltage is default, and I've also run up to 225fsb with this config, although I have to slacken memory timings.
I have also used a 6:5 memory divider to try and see how far I can push the fsb/cpu speed.  I got up to 225fsb (2.25GHz cpu speed), again on default voltage and it was perfectly stable.
However the problems start when I try and go over 230 fsb, the board just will not POST.  I have kept the memory running below 200Mhz when trying this, and have even used 9x multiplier, 3xHTT etc...with no luck.
The highest I ever got it to POST on was about 232fsb (using 9x multiplier)
See my posts on my memory tests:  https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=54265&sid=
I found two great brands of ram that allow me to run at 230 and 235fsb 4ht 1:1 with 2.7V 1t-2.5-3-3-10 timings. They both passed 30 rounds of memtest86 with no errors at this speed. Cpu@ 2350 mhz @ 1.6V
