KT600 FISR / winxp wont see ATA drive

Hi there i have a KT6 Delta board with up-to date drivers and bios etc .
Now im pretty new to this so i don't know if this should work like im thinking but i have just bought a segate barracudea 80gb sata hard drive and plugged it in, but when Win XP loaded it didnt show the extra drive. Is there anything im missing??
Sorry for my newbie-ness
Niner

First make sure it is enabled in the BIOS,
>Intergrated peripheralsSATA ide controller enabled
Then after the BIOS post screen you should see the sata rom detecting all the sata drives. You should see you seagate here.
Once in windows check for the drive,
Right mouse on my computer, properties
Hardware tab.
Device manager
You should see the SATA drive, maybe with a yellow question mark next to it.
if you do then go here
http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=310
download the sata drivers and install.
Did you plug a power connector in the drive too?

  • Windows wont see Maxtor drive

Need some help, ive installed XP sp2 {NTFS} on Seagate Sata drive no probs, then i added the Maxtor pata drive to IDE 1 in master, bios sees it, drive manager in xp sees it but windows wont, tried to assign and change drive letter but it wont let me,i right click and it gives the option of changing to dynamic drive, what on earth is dynamic drive i didnt want to risk it because it has my back up info on it from millennium {fat 32}  rebooted and added drive to raid with Seagate and when you exit raid bios it stop and says disk read error, i tried it in slave mode still wont see it, how do you get xp to see a pata drive? help!!

    1. Since you have the drive on the middle connector of the cable it should be jumpered as slave, not master.
    2. In XP a dynamic drive is another way of saying software raid drive. Don't do it as it can't be reverted back without uninstalling and      formatting.
    3. You should be able to do as suggested using the disk management console to reassign it's drive letter once you've jumpered it as slave while it's still on the middle connector of the cable.
    4. You haven't stated if the sata drive is setup in a raid configuration or if you're using it as a standard drive.
    5. Maybe moving it to the secondary ide controller would allow XP to see it properly and allow you to pull all you important info off it then you could format it and use it as a archive or backup drive.

  • Disc Utilities not seeing ata drive

    Hi,
I just bought a seagate barracuda 300 gig internal hard drive. I opened my mac pro and put it in bay 2 just like you normally would. When I start up my computer and open disc utility it doesn't even recognize that anything is even there. Any idea why this would be???

    fikustree:
How large is the HDD and how much available space do you have? You need to have at least 10% to 15% free disk space.
Before you respond to this, go ahead and Repair Disk:
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it says anything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior
If any repairs are needed please note what they are and include them in your response.
    Good luck.

  • Trying to replace a blown Ata drive on my G4.

Trying to replace a blown Ata drive on my G4.
Installed new Samsung 80gb/7200/2M/PATA set as master.
No option shows up for "Select destination drive." What's
    a newbie to do?

Hi, and welcome to the forums. I see that you're new, and I must suggest that you'll get far better help if you can be as specific as possible.
When you're frustrated, it's quite tempting to be overly brief, but that just invites more questions for specifics.
There are some really great Super-Gurus on this forum who will give you great answers, if you give them the info they need to help you...
You can indeed choose "Open Disk Utility" from the file menu of the Mac Installer. I would format the drive as Mac HFS + (it may have come pre-formatted for Windoze). Then, it will most likely be visible when you attempt to install your System Software.
    Good Luck!

  • My House PC wont See my Mac on our wireless network

Sorry if this has previously been discussed, but when i searched for this problem, I kept getting "Mac wont see PC" results in my search. but my problem is the other way around. I can see the PC's in the house in my shared folder and I can access one of them and take and send files to that computer, but none of the PCs can see my Mac. Is this a problem with my Mac or the PC?
I have the settings in my Sharing folder set up, File shareing is turned on and I've selected a folder on my desktop I want the the PC's to see. The users are listed as me, "users" and "everyone" I'm set at Read and write and the other two are set at Read only. And on the side panel under "service" I have File sharing checked off.
Is there something else I need to do? Or is there something we need to do on the PC.
As I said before I can see one of the PCs (the desktop upstairs) and share files (on my side) but I can't access the other PC (a lap top downstairs). I can only see the name in the shared folder in my HD side panel. When I click on it, it tells me Connection failed and then asks me for a user name and password for the Pc server. I don't have to do that with the other PC when i access it's C and D drives.
    Help please.

Couldn't figure out how to edit my OP, so to add:
I just got my iMac to see the downstairs Lap Top PC's C and D drives and Shared Folder and successfully transfered files. It was a combination of me making appletalk active (not sure if that helped) And selecting the network workgroup name in the WINS window of my network setting window. From there I was able to connect to his Lap top's shared folder. Then My BF switched on his file sharing for his C and D drives which gave me full access to them and not just the "shared folder" he had.
but the original problem still remains, both his desktop and Lap Top PCs can't see my Mac.

  • 11.1.5 installed yesterday now it wont see iphone or open itunes

11.1.5 installed yesterday now it wont see iphone or open itune - has anyone encountered a similar problem?

I had same issue.  I flollowed http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 and the actual part that fixed it for me was step 5.  Once I finally found it under DEVICES under "portable devices" the connected type of device was only listed as "Apple Iphone" and nothing was listed under the Universal Serial bus Controllers.  After I followed the directions to install the proper mobile device driver then Itunes was able to see my phone.  My PC then also has the correct device listed under the Universal Serial bus Controllers.
It is not enough that your connected device says "Apple Iphone" ... so read into the directions step by step for your OS.  I think this is the fix for most new connection issues seen with Itunes 11.1.5!  Nice bench testing Apple.

USB drivers are not installed properly or are out of date.

iPod appears in Windows Explorer but does not appear in iTunes.

  • Tiger doesn't see hard drive

    Good morning guys,
I am looking for some assistance debugging an issue where my powerbook will not see the hard drive. I was given this powerbook to work on (no previous history of ever working before). When I got it it would give me the grey screen and the spinning circle for a few seconds then automatically shut down. The first thing I did was to confirm my suspicions (a bad drive) so I used an external firewire drive and managed to install the OS without any issues. Then once in OS X I tried to repair/format the internal drive without any luck. It would just hang forever. So I decided I need to try a new drive. Now, before I go any further I need to point out that when I'd hold the 'option' key down upon boot up it would give me the option to boot from either drive (internal and firewire), in other words OS X would still 'see' the internal drive as being available to bootstrap.
In order to replace the new drive I followed the instructions in this YouTube video from OWC which as you could see it's pretty straight-forward. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBDHyEQ1bQQ
Two items to note: I've tried two new HDs (not new but known to be working), one of them being the one I used to install the OS externally via FW. In fact this one I didn't even format it, I just threw it in as the replacement internal drive. So here are the results: OS X now gives me the folder/flashing ? when I boot. But the most disturbing thing to me is that when I boot off of the DVD to install the OS the HD is not listed at all in the Disk Utility. Running *diskutil info* from the Terminal also shows no drive. In addition to this when I boot holding down the option key the internal drive is no longer showing up either (not even when I have gone back to using the *original drive*!). I have re-watched the video to make sure I didn't miss anything (like a missing ribbon cable being loose etc. and have also tried another HD that I formated from another powerbook via the FW and still the same result.
    So here are my questions:
    - Why is it that multiple HDs are not showing up as I hold down the Option key when prior to the failed HD replacement that used to be the case?
    - OpenFirware as far as I can tell is seeing the drive when I run '0 > devalias hd /pci@f4000000/ata-6@d/disk@0 ok' . Is this enough to conclude the drive is installed correctly?
    - I took an original OS X DVD that came with my other 15" PB and used it to run the Apple Hardware Test on this problematic PB and even the extensive mode test came back fine. Mass Storage passed with no problems.
Well I hope you all have some ideas coz I am willing to try them.
Oh BTW, I have ran a PRAM and PMU resets just in case also.
    Sorry for the long email...
Thanks in advance to any brave souls to jump on this one
    -abe

As I'm at work, I don't recall there being an apple menu. Just a language selection, then and agreement page and then it looks for the hard drive. Do I have to hold down a certain key to access the apple menu?

  • Can't get Windows XP to see SATA drives

    Please help
SATA Drives show up in the system hardware but not in My Computer or Explorer
K8T Neo FIS2R (Updated BIOS Yesterday via Live Update)
    amd 64 3000+
    Centon PC3200 (2 X 512 in slots 1 and 2)
WD 80 gig ATA drive (Windows Xp Home on this drive)
2 Maxtor 250 GIG SATA Drives (tried both Raid 0 and no Raid)
All drivers from CD installed (Updated drivers via Live Update Yesterday)
Promise disabled and using VIA slots
    Nvidia FX 5900 Video card

    Good evening -
Thanks for the response. I loaded drivers from CD.  I want to keep the operating system on the 80 GIG ATA drive and use the SATA RAID for programs.  The drives show up in the device manager and in the VIA RAID utility that came with the motherboard but I can't see or access them through My Computer.  I have tried to set up the RAID through both the Windows software and through the Boot program, but no luck.  When I tried to update the drivers from the floppy it said no newer drivers found. (I tried to update drivers through the Device manager.)  Also when I deleted the raid and tried to set up the drives individually the same thing happened.  Is it possible I don't have the BIOS set up correctly? I am at a loss.

  • Can't see NAS drives

I'm setting up the D-Link DNS-343 on a MacBook, 10.5.5. I also run WinXP via VM Fusion. Once I got the two drives past hanging at 94% format (deleted cookies per FAQ), I could access the NAS via the web UI from both the Mac and PC sides, but I can't see the drives in Finder or Windows Explorer. I've played with the settings, updated the firmware, etc., but still nothing. Any ideas?

It has to be mounted as a network drive. It just won't show up on the Desktop. Use the Connect to Server selection from the Finder's Go menu. Give the IP address to the NAS that was provided in the manual.

  • 750GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm or 128GB Solid State Drive?

Ok so im probably going to get the MacBook Pro 15 inch non retina 2.6 GhZ. it comes with 750 GB Serial ATA Drive and im trying to see if it is worth upgrading to the SSD im going to be using it for a lot of video editing (Final Cut Pro/YouTube) as well as streaming videos and using it for class work give me your opinions on what you think would be best to get if im using it for this thanks! (also ahould i upgrade to 2.7 GhZ.??)

I agree with Bimmer 7 Series.  I did the same SSD update of the 2.5" Hard Drive.  i went from a 750GB 5400 RPM to a 512 GB SSD and used the 750 for additional storage (put in a chassis) and a 4x improvement on performance on the SSD vs. the typical HD.
Boot time went from 50seconds to 10 seconds.
Loading Parallels 7 load of Windows XP Pro was 1:33 minutes to 40 seconds.
Excel 2010 load time was 25 seconds, now 7 seconds
iMovie with 40 minute move added to edit/preview- 40 seconds, now 14 seconds.
These are just a few examples. I have the 2012 13 MBP (2.8Ghz 8GB RAM).

After it reboots and has copied the files it wont see the hard drive and starts all over again.  PLZ help im going crazy!!!

Make sure after you install Windows you go into the BIOS and change the boot order so your HDD is first on the list.
(Oh, and after Windows is installed, you can take the disc out of the drive!)

by looking at the specs the laptop is better but if your not a gamer or graphics designer  then you most likly wont notice a difference in the performance at all so with that said a few downsides
the processor is i5 the i7 processor is the better processor the graphics card has half the dedicated memory that the laptop has and the hdd compared to the solid state is not much of a difference unless you wanna move your computer all the time you wont need a solid state drive
but like i said before if your not a gamer or graphics designer on your computer you will not notice the difference most likely
