KT6v-LSR Boot Problems

I'm only giving the specs for certain items because I'm only trying to boot it with these installed.
KT6v-Lsr
AMD XP 2400+ T-bred
Thermaltake Volcano 6 cu+
Antec 430 Watt PSU (+5v=36a, +12v=20a, +3.3v=28a, -5v=.5a, -12v=1.0a,+5vsb=2a)
I've been having this problem since I bought this board and put it together earlier this week.  I first tried to power the system with my old Antec 300 Watt psu.  When I read the other posts on this board I went out and bought a 400 watt psu, same problem.  I finally went out and bought a better Antec 430 watt psu, still same problem.  Please help.  This is what happens when I try to boot up (same problem, all psu's) the D-Bracket leds show Sys Power ON, then Early Chipset Initialization, then Memory Detection Test... and then the system powers down.   I would think that with 20a on the 12v I would be set, so I'm starting to think the mobo is just bad, and might just return it.  Would appreciate any help though.

In fact, feel grateful that the newer boards have the ability to detect the CPU temp rising too fast, and shut the system down to save that costly CPU's life
Without that little feature, you could fry a CPU in just a couple minutes

I encounter a strange problem(which I think is because of main board):
         - Sometimes when I press the power on button(to power on the system),then the system don't really starts, only the HardDisk(red) LED is ON, the PowerOn(green) LED is OFF. The monitor remains black, with a LED blinking.
         - While the system is in state described before, if i press the Reset Button, then: the PowerOn(green) LED turns ON too,the monitor receives signal(it's LED stops blinking, by remanining ON), and the system starts OK(everything is ok).
    What can be the problem?
    the system configuration is:

    Hello,
Did you build this PC or did someone else build it?
Open the PC, remove the case side panel and check the JP1/case connectors.
Check if the power switch, reset switch, hdd LED are Power LED are plugged in the right place.
The best way to do this is to remove all the case connectors and start again, plug 1 at a time and see if it works better.
Start with the front case power switch first, plug it in and see if the PC starts when you press it.
Make sure the PC is off when you do this, (turn on when you are ready to test).

  • KT6V Weird boot problems

    Hi..
I'm having this weird boot problem (and no it doesn't seem to be the standard one)
    OK..
    I have the following :
    AMD Athlon 2000+
    KT6V LSR mainboard
    2x 256 Crucial PC2700 memory
    IDE Hard Disk (120gb segate)
    Creative 5700ultra Graphics card (AGP)
    Cd Rom
    Chieftec 400w PSU
    WinXP Pro
If I set my CPU FSB to 100mhz (everything else on auto).. win Xp pro boots fine and all is pretty good except that my chip is now seen as a lowly 1.25ghz..
If I then set my CPU FSB to 133 or 166 then the machine boots (ie it beeps etc..).. starts to load windows xp (I get the logo and that's when the problem happens)  and either black screens (ie.. nothing and the monitor turns off) or blue screens with the windows message saying that windows has detected a hardware fault and has halted the system..
I know my memory, chip, heatsink etc all work because just over an hour ago they all worked fine in my KT3 ultra.
What is going on as I've tried almost everything to try and solve this, with the only option to set the FSb to 100mhz which is incorrect for my CPU.
    How do I fix this.
I've looked through the forum but this is not the same problem as simple reboots.. this is weird.
If I can't fix this then I guess it'll be send it back.. which is a shame because I like MSi motherboards.
    Thanks
    Slippery

    Hi..
I've checked the CPU heatsink.. and nothings wrong !
(Can't check the voltage but I know the PSU is Ok as I did run it in a custom case with 4 Cd writters, 4 HDs, loads of lights etc.. before I moved to this new plain case tonight)
What's weird is that set at 100FSb it's fine but at 133 or 166 it just crashes after the loading XP logo is displayed. Up until that point it's all fine.
But why does it run Ok at 100mhz and not 133mhz ?
Please help..  before I end up fixing this with a hammer !
    Thanks

  • KT6 LSR Boot Problems

    Hi,
I just built this system and when I push the start button on the front of the case (Cold Boot) the fans all come on but that is all. Then I have to push the reset then it will post and go to the raid looking for devices screen and eventually will boot. I tried I tried a new PSU and it does the same thing. Any idea why it is not starting properly and any way to get it to stop looking for Raid devices?
How dop I determine my Bois on this board?
    Thanks,

All parts came from a kt3 and worked fine.

    Hi,
I made the change in the bios and it no longer wants to find the raid devices (THANKS) for that one.
It still on a cold boot, like it has been off over night will power up, fans will come on then the monitor go's off and nothing else happens. I then have to press the reset to get it to boot. Seems like the board is defective or something. I put in a new cooler since this all started and a new PSU and it is the same.
The cooler is the 3rd one that I have tried and it does the same thing. The Aero 7+ does plug into the board but in order to see the fan speed I would need to cut the sensor wire and hook the power to the PSU and the sensor to the connector on the board, Kind of a pain. Maybe BAS will get lucky and get a response from MSI on the problem.
    Thanks All,

  • 875 P neo-lsr boot problem

Hello all, I've got the following problem with my 875 P neo board:
The system fails to power on properly 95% of the time.
Sometimes the hdd inits and the nb fan goes on, sometimes it doesn't. The LED's gives either an keyboard controller or AGP initing display diagnostics message. The system never comes as far as lighting the display in the cases when it doesn't work. The system boots in 1 out of 10 cases so switching it on and off until it works is the only way to boot it.
When fully booted it works perfect though.
I've tried changing graphics card and keyboard but with no sucess, also tried setting the memory voltage to 2.70 with no real increase in sucessful boots.
Sometimes when the system actually boots it reports that the 'memory timings are set too tight, resetting' even thoyugh I've set the settings in the bios to 'slow', although it does not report this on all sucessfull boots.
    I've got the following specs:
    Pentium 4, 3000 Mhz, 800 FSB
TwinMOS 512 MB, PC3200, CL 2.5 RAM (Approved by MSI)
Super Flower / Le pont 420 W PSU (P4 approved)
    MSI 875P NEO-LSR
IBM 75GXP hdd (master on chain 1)
Asus CD-R (master on chain 2)
Asus GeForce 4 Ti4800SE 128 MB DDR 8x AGP graphics card (brand new)
    Keytronics brand new 'standard' keyboard
MS explorer optical 3.0 USB mouse
    BIOS rev 1.6
I've tried changing the graphics card and keyboard for other products from microsoft and gainward.
Anyone got any idea what could help me?
    Best regards =).

One thing that makes me wounder:
For some reason the multiplier is set to 203 x 15.0 when booted (according to corecenter), but in the bios it says 200 x 15.0 (with my 800 FSB 3 Ghz p4).
Now the thing that makes me wounder is why is it doing this as it results in a speed increase to 3043 mhz?
I should note that my P4's multiplier is locked and cannot be changed in the bios...
    I'm having the same ''problem''.
Are you currently using BIOS version 1.6?
Because with my BIOS version 1.2 nothing appeared to be wrong with the FSB and CPU/ memory clock.
Then I Flashed to v1.6 and it overclocked my system.
My CPU is now running at 3043MHz with a 811MHz FSB ( Core Center says 203*15) and my memory is also running at 811MHz.
Can you check the clocks of your graphics card? Because my Radeon 9800 Pro was running in v1.2 at stock speed (340MHz/380MHZ) and now with v1.6 at 351MHz/391MHz.
I don't mind about this ''overclocking'', but when it fu**s up my hardware I can't blame MSI because they are not responsible for overclocking X(

  • Kt6v-lsr boot

Hey, does any one now if its possible to go from the corecell logo right in to win. xp boot logo when i start up my pc

I don't have the manual in front of me, but you can by simply entering BIOS
    -Disable search for SATA.
-in Boot /Boot sequence remove that BIOS looks for network boot/LAN boot devices and floppy boot, and make the boot up list fit your needs.
-in Standard CMOS Features disable search for devices on IDE channels you don't use, like Seconday Slave  if you don't have it.
In Windows you can disable look for diskett device, and in the old days you could manually change boot delay time. But in XP I can't say. Have a look around the Internet for boot delay.
By this you could shorten boot up time quite a bit. Please tell me if it is that you wish.

I have just bought a new processor, and motherboard.
when I set the cpu fsb to 200 mhz bios displays Atlon 3000 but the machine hangs with a blank screen after post.
If I set the 166 mhz the cpu is picked up as being a Atlon 2400 and the machine will boot into windows.
I have tried different memory, but is still the same.

  • KT6V- lsr SATA problem

This is propably a silly question, but i've put this new motherboard allong with 1 sata disk togheter, everything looks good besides the fact that when i want to install WXP it says it can't find any hard drives. I've noticed in the very beginning at the startup, that it recognizes the Maxtor Sata disk, but i think i have to change something in the bios, to put sata1 as primairy master. Any suggestions ??

While in XP install you are always prompted for something like, Press F6 to install ......blah blah right after the XP-cd has started it's blue-screen journey.
And, check my post above - I updated it, you should REALLY do a search

  • MSI KT6V-LSR USB problems

The on-board USB ports on my MOBO are doing nothing. I've tried multiple devices from mice to cameras to printers and I get nothing from them. All the drivers are installed and up-to-date. I've tried to get an RMA for this but so far I've had no luck. Any ideas?

Have you insured they are enabled in BIOS?
Just the ports made on the board, or have you hooked up to the USB headers as well? If you have hooked up to the USB headers on the board, for front USB ports, make sure the connections are all correct, and only use 8 wires per header. If the front USB cables have 9 wires, it can cause this type of error.

  • Problem Kt6v-lsr

HI..I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH A MAINBOARD KT6V-LSR, THE PROBLEM is:
I' NOT ABLE TO START WINDOWS BECAUSE TO START THE CPU, THE ICON OF CORECELL CHIP APPEARS IN THE MONITOR  AND BLOCKED THE CPU, THE KEYBOARD AND THE MOUSE don't RECOGNIZE THEM AND I' NOT ABLE TO IN  THE BIOS  AND I DON'T NOW WHAT HAPPEND. I NEED HELP BECAUSE THE GUARANTEE DE MI BOARD ALREADY EXPIRES.. THANK YOU AND EXCUSE FOR THE ENGLISH BUT I DONT SPEAK -WRITE ENGLISH...
    BYE
    Guido.

No, sorry, this was the original PSU. I put down the wrong wattage before.
I appreciate your help, but what you aren't getting is that I can't get TO the BIOS settings to change the FSB or other CPU settings. It hangs before I can get to that point.
According to the manual, the LED display that I posted is for when the MB is initializing or loading the BIOS. This is just after initializing the video, which does come up then. It never gets past this BIOS load point., so there is no possibility to enable/disable CoreCell or any BIOS settings. I'm wondering if the BIOS is blown or something?
There are no LED codes for problems, just indications of where the system is during POST. So if it hangs, it just means that it didn't complete this step. In other words, there is no indication that there are wrong CPU settings, etc.
BTW, the CoreCell logo is just part of the screen display at this point. I don't think it means that CoreCell is being loaded or setup here. Its just a static logo display.
This is a new, out-of-the-box MB, so the BIOS has never been changed as far as I know.
The only thing that has occurred, is that I tried to bring the board up without the 4 pin 12V cable being attached for CPU pwr connector. Using this cable is new to me, so I wasn't sure whether it was needed or not. But the MB (obviously) wouldn't even start without this 12V cable. Once I put the 12V cable in, then it booted to this point and then hung.
I tried again to reset the CMOS with JBAT1 jumper. I unplugged the AC from the PSU. then put the jumper to reset for 5 minutes. I also popped the battery out for 5 minutes too. Still the same results!

  • KT6V-LSR LAN and USB problems

This is my second KT6V-LSR, the first was dead out of the box - no power what so ever.
I'm using an AMD Athalon XP 1600 and Windows 98 SE (wife's computer and I don't want the hassle of changing her over to XP).  She just uses it for internet and email and to create patterns for her embroidery sewing machine.
When I installed the drivers from the CD, my USB would not work nor did the LAN.
Looking at the system devices I see the following problems:
For the Network Adapters - VIA RhineII Fast Ethernet adapter  I get:  The NDIS.VXD, NYKERN.VXD device loaders for this device could not load the device driver (Code2)
The VIA Tech 3038 PCI to USB universal host controller I'm getting: The NYKERN.VXD device loaders for this device could not load the device driver (Code2)
Where are these supposed to be located?  I don't see them on the CD.
I'm also glad to read that this board has a boot-up problem.  That is the main reason I got rid of the old ECS board.  It would sometimes lose it's BIOS when it booted.  At first I thought it was a cold problem, but then it would sometimes do it on a reboot.  And yes I did put in a new battery.  The problem was still there.

    Hello.
Windows 98 is not recommended on the new boards as you may run into serveral problems with drivers.
USB 2.0 drivers VIA 4in1 drivers
Some drivers for you to try,
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=511&kind=1
Is that windows 98 you are using or windows 98se?
    98 is a bad choice.
    You should use windows XP.

  • MSI KT6V-LSR (MS-7021) Can't Boot From CD/DVD

New to the forum and would like to say hello to everyone first.
Here's my problem i can't boot from my DVD drive, my 2 HDD's and 2 DVD drives are working fine inside windows.
Inside the bios screen they are detected in the right order, and are in the right boot order. I checked the jumpers on them and they seem fine and i haven't touch them since i changed my dvd rewriter 6 months ago and i have booted from a cd since then.
I just booted up the Windows Xp disc on a differnt pc and it worked fine, yet on mine it goes straight to my XP OS.
I was hoping someone could help me out, thanks.

Did you install Nero 9  by any chance?
Even if you didn't, and old version of InCD can cause this too.
The problem is upper/lower filters, they are screwed and thus your CD's are missing in action.
Run this tool inside windows: ftp://ftp6.nero.com/tools/General-CleanTool.zip
As for booting, change the boot order in the BIOS, probably set to harddisk first.
If that doesn't solve it, disconnect one of the CD's and test with a single one, maybe one is broken and hinders the other, but that is my last guess.

  • Boot problems KT6Delta lsr

    Hi there.
I have a boot problem with my kt6 delta lsr.
I have just installed it, the former MB was a biostar with a via chipset kt133/686a
at first It couldn´t  start up, but it helped when I flashed the BIOS. (the MB has been used by another person for some months) then it want me to choose F1 to acces the setup or F2 to load default settings. If i choose F2 the MB beeps once at stops. If in setup everything is fine, it have deteced all my devices. Then I use save and exit but it does the same. If I boot from CD rom with my XP CD it boots fine. I tried to "repair" my installation, it works fine until the it reboots and want to start the HD for finishing the repairing it just stops.
would it help if I erase and format the HD and install windows again?

    Did it ever boot normally?
Until today, it had never boot abnormally.
Did you install any new software or memory just
    before this started happening?
I installed some fonts last night... no new software immediately preceding this, however. Norton anti-virus, Microsoft Office, and a nightly WebKit build last week, but I've used it without problems since then.
Have you launched Disk Utility from your install disk
(located in the file menu) and Repaired Disk and
    Repaired Permissions?
Not yet -- I was still in the denial / hopefull thinking phase of repair. Will do that and post back here either way. Thanks.

  • [VIA] MSI-7021 (KT6V-LSR) and Sempron 2500 problem.

I bought a AMD Sempron 2500 1.75ghz and a MSI-7021 KTV6-LSR, I connected the Sempron to the motherboard and powered up, well I got power to the fans, but no activity and no sounds. I plugged in the LED diagnostic kit that came with the motherboard and all 4 red lights are on, according to the manual this means either a fault with the CPU or it aint seated properly. So I reset the CPU and the same 4 red LED's came on again.  I thought it could be a PSU supply problem, so I disconnected all the hard drives and the DVD-ROM drives and still the same problem occured.  So I decided to test my old Athlon 1.2gig CPU in the motherboard and the same problem occured again, no activity and all 4 red LEDS on the diagnostic.  I also disconnected the 2 DDR memory chips.
I dont have one of those 4 pin power connectors, do I need on of these.
I tested the new Sempron in my old PC motherboard, an ASUS A7V-E and it powered up without any problems, so obviously it cannot be the new Sempron CPU that is fauly.
Can someone point me in the right direction.  I hope I have supplied enough information.

I would need the 4 pin even for a old Athlon Socket A CPU too.  Why is this exactly, does the KTV6 use more watts than a normal older mobo.
You need the 4-pin because it is part of the mainboard's design power.  That 4-pin connector exclusively supplies your processor.  No 4-pin lead = no power to the processor.
And you are better off with the Antec than the Tagan.  Tom's Hardware, based in Germany where Tagan is prevalent, has had nothing but failures from Tagan power supplies.  Most recently THG chose a Tagan for their Intel and AMD Stress Test - the Tagan died.  To be fair, the Tagan was a pre-production test unit, but the authors did make a point of saying this was not the first Tagan that has died in their lab.
