KT6V-LSR onboard LAN Help???

I'm having major problems with the onboard LAN on my KT6V-LSR...
Everything was working fine, until I decided to overclocking a little, then problems with the onboard LAN started!!!
Basically when I connect the ethernet wire to the onbaord LAN windows still shows as no connection???
Windows XP recognizes the onboard LAN and I'm able to update drivers, but still no luck regardless of what drivers I use...
I've also tried clearing CMOS and installing a fresh copy of Windows XP and still no luck!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the VIA southbridge takes care of USB, LAN, and audio...   So why is it that my onboard sound and USB works fine but the onboard lan refuese to work???
The green light for the onbaord LAN on the I/O is always lit, is this normal???
I've just bought a PCI network card and it works fine, but the onbard LAN still doesn't work???
I'm thinking it's a defected motherboard, but I do not want to go throught the trouble of RMAing it.
Any help is welcome...

Samsung PC2100 (512MB)
Asus Geforce 4 Ti4200 8X (128MB)
Maxtor 60G ATA 133
Vantec iON 400W

I've tried taking out the PCI one then disabling the onboard and re-enabling it, but no luck...      It just doesn't work.  Now I'm starting to think it's a bios problem with system standby in S3???  Or perhaps hibernation???
Really, I think I've given up on the onbaord LAN.  Everythings working fine with my PCI networkcard...
So again, thanks guys for contributing on trying to come up with a solution to my onbaord LAN problem...
Thanks.

    hi there welcome to forum.
Ensure your onboard LAN is turned on from BIOS.
then get LAN drivers(For VIA VT8231/8233/8235/8237 Intergrated LAN Motherboard) and install it from here: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=511&kind=1

  • KT4V-L onboard LAN help

Just got an MSI KT4V (MS-6712) with LAN.
When I first installed it the LAN card was detected on XP.
But now it's not showing up.  Not in the Device Manager or even in the BIOS setup.
I'm not sure what happened; I updated the drivers, installed the MSI utilities, ran Windows Update...but other than that, I'm not sure why its not detecting the LAN card anymore.
    Can anyone help?

Looks like you hit the tree, Joe  :(
I think it's gone now. Nothing to do. This problem often occurs on KT4V. It's good that it's new, you can change it at your dealer for free.
Is it still visible in BIOS under PCI Controller? And if you plug in your network cable does the leds flash?

  • Help with KT6V-LSR

    Hi all
Just built my first PC. Feeling pretty pleased and all until i switched the power on. Not a peep from the motherboard. Maybe i have a duff board? Any suggestions or help would be most appreciated.
    Quick rundown of system:-
    KT6V-LSR SKT A
    Seagate ST380013AS 80 GB
    Kingston 256MB DDR PC2700

    Hello,
Maybe you did not put the front case connector in the right place?
    PWR_Switch.
What video card are you using and what power supply?
    180W is no good
Have a look at the PSU sticker for the following,

  • KT6V-LSR LAN and USB problems

This is my second KT6V-LSR, the first was dead out of the box - no power what so ever.
I'm using an AMD Athalon XP 1600 and Windows 98 SE (wife's computer and I don't want the hassle of changing her over to XP).  She just uses it for internet and email and to create patterns for her embroidery sewing machine.
When I installed the drivers from the CD, my USB would not work nor did the LAN.
Looking at the system devices I see the following problems:
For the Network Adapters - VIA RhineII Fast Ethernet adapter  I get:  The NDIS.VXD, NYKERN.VXD device loaders for this device could not load the device driver (Code2)
The VIA Tech 3038 PCI to USB universal host controller I'm getting: The NYKERN.VXD device loaders for this device could not load the device driver (Code2)
Where are these supposed to be located?  I don't see them on the CD.
I'm also glad to read that this board has a boot-up problem.  That is the main reason I got rid of the old ECS board.  It would sometimes lose it's BIOS when it booted.  At first I thought it was a cold problem, but then it would sometimes do it on a reboot.  And yes I did put in a new battery.  The problem was still there.

    Hello.
Windows 98 is not recommended on the new boards as you may run into serveral problems with drivers.
USB 2.0 drivers VIA 4in1 drivers
Some drivers for you to try,
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=511&kind=1
Is that windows 98 you are using or windows 98se?
    98 is a bad choice.
    You should use windows XP.

  • How Do I Flash My KT6V-LSR Bios? I read the MSI Instructons, But Im Still Totally Confused? HELP!!

Help, I want to flash my KT6V-LSR Bios to the newest version but i have NO clue on how to do it?!! HELP PLEASE

    Hello.
Another KT6V wanted to flash his bios but wasn't sure, Lilflea.
So I posted this and he managed to flash his BIOS.
    ================
I hope this is easy to understand.
To Flash the BIOS, download this have 2 disks ready.
    http://www.holisticaroma.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/boot98se.exe
Requires 1 floppy disk, run the file and it will make a boot disk with ram drive.
    Now copy
adsfi711.exe and a7021ms.170 from the BIOS zip file to floppy disk 2
Restart the PC and boot from the floppy disk.
It will load and you need to choose boot without cd rom support
Now once it has finished loading, rmove the disk and insert the disk with the 2 files.
    Then type copy a:\adsfi711.exe c:
    Then type copy a:\a7021ms.170 c:
    Now type c:
    then type
    adsfi711.exe a7021ms.170
    it will flash the BIOS.
After the Flash you must Reset your CMOS, turn off the PC.
Remove the side panel and move the Jbat jumper on the motherboard into the Clear position, wait a few seconds then put it back in the save postion.
Then you can turn your pc on and you MUST reconfigure all your settings,
    eg CPU FSB.

  • Help with mem speed issue in KT6V LSR BIOS

    Hi all
In the BIOS of the MSI KT6V LSR board, does anyone know if it is possible to turn off the memory speed setting the puts memory to either Fast, Turbo or Ultra? I am uisng 1 DIMM of TwinMos 512mb, PC2700 DDR Ram and I can't run it at its correct timing of 333Mhz, because I think the above speed setting overclocks the memory and is causing instability in my installation of Win XP.
    Cheers
    SteveC

    Thanks Fredrik & Sliksta.
Firstly Fred the cpu fsb is set to its correct timing of 166 (333 FSB Barton installed) and everyhting else in that screen is set to auto. It seems to be showing the correct CPU speed on boot up, so I can't see the problem there.
The thing is I have flashed the BIOS to the latest version and that memory setting for Fast, Turbo and Ultra is still there and can't be disabled. According to MSI it would be disabled in BIOS update V1.3, because it overclocks the memory and causes problems on some memory. When I run the memory timing at 333 I just seem get instability in Windows and thought it must be down to that timing issue. I have turned down the memory to 266 and things seem to be ok so far. Maybe I'll just stick to that. Strange one really. Could be the memory is a bit duff or I havent flashed BIOS properly. Shoud I reflash it do you think?

  • Upgrade to KT6V-LSR gone wrong, system freezes and BSOD's

    Hi guys!
I just recently bought a KT6V-LSR to replace and Asrock K7S41GX motherboard. After putting all together (specs on signature) installed windows from scratch in a new partition on the master drive. Installed VIA 4 in 1, DirectX 9.0c, Catalyst 5.03, Realtek sound driver, LAN driver, USB patch, all of them were the latest versions available from the corresponding site,  everything while the pc was not connected to the internet.. When I installed the Catalyst driver, rebooted the computer and it started testing the computer to find the "most stable settings" according to the installation said. The screen got all srambled but it seemed to bel going on, on the installation process it said that it'll take about 1 minute, waited about 5 an then restarted (it said that the test might cause the system not to respond anymore and that if it happened, restart it), it started all right. Then I installed NAV 2005. Installed acrobat reader. Then I tried to install Office 2003 and the system froze when it was about 15% of the copying files process. Restarted it and then the system crashed again the same way. If I leave the system running idle, it crashes randomly. It didn't show up with a BSOD at the beginning but now it shows
    kernel_stack_inpage_error
    0x00000077 (0xc000000E,0xc000000E,0xc00000000, 0x01b42000)
    and another one
    kernel_stack_inpage_error
    0x0000007A (0xE14F862c,0xc000000E,0xcBF97B704, 0x02c23860)
    (once each)
I'm thinking (from what I have read here) it might be the power supply, but since here in costa rica it's almost imposible to find a decent 400W PSU and I won't have the 100 bucks it costs for a couple of weeks more, is there anything I should try?
Temps on the system are 45-49 idle, 53-55 load. Applied thermal grease to the HS&F before installed it.
the 12+ (I've read is very important since the KT6V is very hungry on this rail) is showing up about 12 on the core center, but I've read that is not really representative...
Haven't updated to BIOS version 2.0 yet...
I checked the memory, ran only 1 stick and then the other one, on both slots.
I'm open to any advice, for sure I'll replace the PSU but that's gonna take a couple of weeks and I wanted to check if there's something I could try in the mean time.
Thanks a lot for your help!

Hey , Ford Tech , can you give an explanation of what  the setup with  the CD drive and the master  harddrive on IDE 1 will  do .
I have the same PSU  nazgoth has .
I'm just interested in the affect  that  setup will have with the  power in the system  .
If you have noticed my posts its more of a house electricity thing with my setup , the harddrive not getting enough power , temporarily I hope .
Not really a voltage concern. But I guess it could if both drives are running at the same time. With IDE, one is limited to two drives in a chain, and these drives cannot work at the same time. In essence, they must "take turns".So by putting 1 HDD as primary master and cd as slave, you will get the full performance of your drive. Most peeps only run CD roms for program installs and or CD burning or copying anways.
As far as the cable, yes there are 80 wire flat cables that work just fine. The only reason to go to the round cables is to improve air-flow and or the length of the cable itself.
I am sure many people use it the old fashion way with no problems.I just experienced a performance issue when I had HDD's on the same chain. It was mainly because I load all my games on my D drive. It also kept defaulting it to PIO mode which is the slowest mode.Since swaping the drives around on the chain(IDE1=HDD-Operating system-primary master and CD burner as Primary slave)(IDE2=HDD-Storage/gaming-secondary master and my DVD rom as secondary slave)Both drives run in UMDA-MODE-5 set up that way with no more problems

  • MSI 785GM-E51 - onboard LAN not working

    Hello,
I've problem with MSI 785GM-E51 board. Suddenly, when I booted system (Ubuntu) I've noticed that there is no network and even network device (lcpci showed no network devices). Is it possible that the onboard LAN got damaged? I tried to check BIOS and renabled oboard LAN/remove PCI devices/unplug power for a few hours etc but nothing helped. Any suggestions?

    LAN card has worked earlier?
PSU is starting to fail? If things work after several re-boots that may very well be the reason.

  • I can't install Windows 98 on a KT6V-LSR

I used to be able to dual boot Win98 and 2K from different partitions on a single 80Gb hard drive. Needed the Win98 only because my old Matrox capture card has no drivers for the newer OS’s. When I changed my mobo to an MSI KT6V-LSR (Via KT600) I couldn’t get the Win98 partition to work (I didn’t have to wipe it through 2 earlier mobo changes. I guess it couldn’t stand the 3rd)
The previous setup was like this, all on a 1-1/2 year old 80gb Maxtor:
    Primary partition, 753 mb, FAT32, Windows 98
1st logical partition, 11gb, NTFS, Windows 2K Pro
2nd logical partition, 25gb, FAT32, for video files
3rd logical partition, 40gb, FAT32, for all my data, downloads, etc
I could get the standard Windows OS selection page upon boot. This time whenever I try to install Windows 98 I get the above “serious error” message right after the partition check by scandisk. It's not the installer's fault, it's been with me for a long time. Worked flawlessly before.
I am able to install Win2K on NTFS or FAT32. It is only when I try to install Win98 that I get slammed with this error. I can’t use my capture card and that’s where I earn a little.
The drive passes both the Maxtor diagnostic software (full system scan) and the Seatools generic test (full system scan).
There are no viruses detected (my software may be faulty, though).
PartitionMagic 7 fails to create the small partition I need for Win98, saying “cannot create partition, anti-virus software may be running” But I have disabled any virus settings in BIOS and I am using PartitionMagic from the boot diskettes.
Really stumped here. Can’t afford to buy a new drive right now just so to transfer my files and wipe the current drive.
In summary, the drive allows me to install Win2K on either NTFS or FAT32. But it will not allow me to install Win 98, whether on a Primary partition or the first logical partition (i.e. after Win2K has already been installed)
I have since been able to install Win98. But I had to connect the Drive to a Promise Ultra66 IDE controller.
Question is, is the new hardware really incompatible with the old OS?
THEN...  On two consecutive nights, my registry in Windows 2000 got corrupted (hive corruption). And I have had to reformat and reinstall both times. I am worried now that the mobo I got may have serious faults.
Hope you can give me quick feedback on this.

    Hello,
You should be able to use windows 98 with this motherboard.
    Can you try this.
Format the drive with only 1 partition (80GB FAT32)
    Use maxblast to do this.
Remove the Ultra ATA66 PCI controller.
    Remove the sound card.
Plug the hard drive in IDE cable 1 (set it to master too)
Plug your CD drive to IDE cable 2, set it to master.
    Reset your CMOS
Now when you power up, enter the BIOS
    go to Frequency/voltage control
Set the CPU to 166Mhz FSB (it should be running at 1.667Ghz)
    CPU Ratio = Auto
go to advanced chipset configuration >DRAM settings
    Set the memory to 333Mhz(166Mhz)
    Go to Standard CMOS setup.
    Press on your Hard drive
    Set the mode to LBA
Also change your boot order to
    Floppy
    CD ROM
    Your hard drive
    Go to integrated peripherals
    Disable the onboard sound
    Now save and exit.
Boot from the windows 98 CD
    See what happens.

  • KT6Delta onboard lan controller freezes machine!

KT6Delta onboard lan controller freezes machine after a recently purchase of new ram.
            TwinMOS PC3200 TwiSTER DDR 512MB CL2
            Chip = WLCSP, (DDR-PC400MHz)
Why i believe the ram purchase is the issue, you say?
Well you see this ram model is not on the supported list on the motherboard information page to msi. allthough the 256mb model is.
so i had to manually configure the DRAM timing so that my computer would run at fsb 166 and ram at 400mhz.
But lets get back on track. Everytime i copy over the network (large files that use top network speed) the machine either freezes or i might get away with a complete network connetcion loss. so i have tried to copy at different speeds and foudn out that 2 mbyte a sec is possible without the computer hanging.
i contacted http://www.broadcom.com support base and they did not know of any simmilar issues regarding the broadcom 57x integrated network hardware. But they did say that my ram might be the issue because the network card sends its DMA packets there.
    and i quote:
"Response from Broadcom: I am afraid this is not a known issue to me.  But if you are saying with the different RAM this problem was not seen, this point directly to the RAM you use on this system and the compatibility issue.  The RAM could for sure cause this type of the problem since the network adapter DMAs packets into and from the system memory (RAM)."
So can anyone help me? i really want to be able to use my network hardware normally and not being forced to sell my current ram chip and buy a new one.
I can't remember all dram timings options but here are those i do remember.
    CL = 2.5 (yes didn't work with 2)
    Row precharge time = 5
    Ras pulse width = 8
Ras to cas delay = 5

I have a hard time convincing myself that the symtom - the LAN - is the cause.
What do you mean? its the ram chip thats the cause for the network freeze (or at least that's where it all is pointing at).

  • Wind PC barebones onboard lan problem

This is my fourth barebones I've built. The onboard lan does not appear to be working. There are no lights at the cable connection and windows says a cable is unplugged. I installed the drivers off the msi disk and device manager reports the adapter as enabled. Any ideas. i am currently using a wireless adapter but am concerned there maybe a mobo problem. Appreciate any help. Thanks

If the port does not light up when you connect a good known working cable, and device manager says the network controller is installed and working, then your network port may be broken, in which case there is not much you can do but RMA the unit for replacement.

  • HD Samsung SP2504C SATA II vs MSI KT6V-LSR: How to install?

    Hi everybody,
Ok, i will try to explain the problem with my bad english, so please dont laugh!
I have two modeboards, the MSI KT6V-LSR and ASUS A8N-SLI SE, recently i acquired the HD Samsung SP2504C SATA II for the ASUS, and it works perfectly. So i needed to install this HD SATA II in the KT6V-LSR and i followed some proceedings first:
*The HD already had the XP SP2 installed using the ASUS one
1_i placed the jumper and the HD changed to 150
2_i pluged the data cable in the right conector and the power cable (i tryed in both channels, but only in one the hd is reconized)
3_removed the ide pata 40gb (samsung too)
    4_Enabled ide sata in bios
5_configured to boot using hd sata
The system rebooted always just after the bios scrreenies. Strange, the HD PATA worked, came from the asus too! So i decided to format this HD sata. Like always i followed this steps:
    * My XP cd dont have service packs and boot system
1_i used a floppy with WINME boot + smartdrive
2_delete partition, create and set active
    *3_format c:
    4_f:cd i386
    5_f:i386\winnt
*Other strange thing, the formatting time just take a few seconds unlike the several minutes that normaly takes.
I started to install the XP anyway, and after the copy of files from cd to hd, during the first boot appears a blue screen, and the messages are relationed to the new HD, so the installation stop. I tryed several times but the same thing happened.
The HD sata is reconized in the windows, shows patitions, i transfered 13gb from it to the hd PATA, but i had to boot using the PATA one. I want to use this HD SATA like master, bootable, not like slave.
How to install it, how to format it properly?
I hope that my confusing explainations are sufficient to you understand the problem.
    Some help please!
    And thank you very much

    HD 40GB SAMSUNG
HD 250GB SATA II (that dont works in this motherboard!)

This being really difficult to explain the problem with my so bad English. I go to try to use a translator online, ok?
I use the floppy of boot of the WIN ME, is through it that I obtain to define the partitions, to format hd, and to install the XP. I always made this and always it functioned, also with this HD SATA II samsung 250GB, but only using motherboard ASUS A8N-SLI IF. But when I go to make these procedures using the KT6V-LSR, I do not obtain to format hd right and I do not obtain to install the XP. Then the problem happens before installing the XP, during the formatting. So i want to use only de hd sata, not the HD PATA.
Another thing, I read in one fórum of my country that the KTV6-LSR can damage and even though to “kill” the hd sata. This is really?

  • KT6V-LSR boot problem

I encounter a strange problem(which I think is because of main board):
         - Sometimes when I press the power on button(to power on the system),then the system don't really starts, only the HardDisk(red) LED is ON, the PowerOn(green) LED is OFF. The monitor remains black, with a LED blinking.
         - While the system is in state described before, if i press the Reset Button, then: the PowerOn(green) LED turns ON too,the monitor receives signal(it's LED stops blinking, by remanining ON), and the system starts OK(everything is ok).

    Hello,
Did you build this PC or did someone else build it?
Open the PC, remove the case side panel and check the JP1/case connectors.
Check if the power switch, reset switch, hdd LED are Power LED are plugged in the right place.
The best way to do this is to remove all the case connectors and start again, plug 1 at a time and see if it works better.
Start with the front case power switch first, plug it in and see if the PC starts when you press it.
Make sure the PC is off when you do this, (turn on when you are ready to test).
