KT7 Turbo2 - No Post - just fan...

I'm using known good components with a new Mobo and Athlon XP chip. I get the fan to cpu fan to turn on but vid card turns monitor off and no other response in the system. I've tried it with and without good memory, fd, hd, agp and pci vid cards.
Part of my problem is that I had trouble mounting the huge and stiff clipped speeze cooler and 'smooshed' arctic silver on the caps on the ceramic. I have to check if I have too many brass mounting pins on the case.
1. Please let me know what else to try.
2. I ordered a Palomino chip. How do I verify it is not a T'bred?
3. Tell me I haven't fried the CPU.
Thanks!

Do you get a keyboard init (all three lights flash briefly) soon after the motherboard powers up?  If not, it may be the CPU.  :(  I've fried a couple with Arctic Silver myself.  That dang stuff gets everywhere!  On the last one, about a week ago, I was clumsy and gooped too much on the core.  It got on the caps when I was removing the heat sink (I was comparing different fans).
Rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol does an okay job of cleaning it off.  This time I tried Formula 409 (what have I got to lose? It's not working anyway), and that is *excellent* at cleaning off the Arctic Silver.  I have let the chip dry out since then; I will probably reassemble it tonight, and I'll let you know if I get lucky.
Incidentally, I've played around with a number of different fans, heat sinks, Peltiers, etc.  I have had some of my best results using cheap "stock" fan/heat sinks, such as the CoolerMaster DP5-6J31C ($10 at PCClub).

  • Macbook Pro 2006 won't post, just fans

I have a 2006 macbook pro, and over the many years it slowly started to overheat until the typical GPU problem kicked in and the screen became fractured and the computer unusable. I baked the logic board, and it worked again, but only for a couple of months before the same problem repeated.
So I baked it again, applied Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound, and upon turning it on again, the hard drive would make mounting sounds and within 5 seconds the fans would be going at full speed, but nothing more. The display would show nothing and I would hear no chime.
I figured the board had had it, so I ordered a replacement from a 99.7% rated seller on ebay with tens of thousands of feedback points.
Upon installing the new one, I turned it on and had the same result. No display, no post, and high speed fans.
So now I am thinking that either this logic board is a dud too and I need another replacement, or that there is something else wrong with my computer other than the board.
Problem is, I can't imagine what else it could be. Is there anything other than a bad logic board that could cause this?
Does anybody have any advice for me?
    Thanks!

Don't know about the pink stuff....

  • KT7 Turbo2, continuous beeping..?

I just put together a KT7 Turbo2 system with a Duron 1200 Mhz cpu and 256 MB of PC-133 Ram. When I power on, I get a steady beeping which doesnt stop. If I push the reset button, the computer boots fine and the system works flawless. If I power down and power back up again,..same symptom. Im sure there is something like an intrusion alarm, or health monitor setting that is triggering this but I can't find it.
    Any help GREATLY appreciated.
    Sean.

Thats what I thought at first. What gets me is the fact that I can just push the reset button while it is beeping and it will boot to completion without fail. If the memory or video was bad you would think it would not work in any scenario. Once you are in XP, everything checks fine in device manager. The system works flawlessly.

  • KT7 Turbo2 Problems

    I have the following:
    MSI KT7 Turbo2
    Athlon XP 1600+ Palamino
    ATI 8500 All in Wonder
    Running Windows XP w/ sp1
I have upgraded all drivers to the latest versions i could find.
The problem i am having is i cant run multiple programs at once and have them both running without screwing up.  For example while running winamp, if i try to open up IE the browser will open, but winamp will start running poorly and start crackling(best word i could think of).
Also when i installed an Athlon 1700+, it would come up as an unknown CPU type.
Has anyone had a problem like this and can help?
    Tim

    Hi,
Sounds like you would need to update your BIOS to the latest version to get 1700+ Support. I take it you have one of the older bios'?

  • ACPI problem on KT7 TURBO2

    Hi there,
I own a KT7 Turbo2 main board and am having serious problems with it. The problems started when my os (win XP) became unstable and I decided to reinstall it.
After doing my backups, I proceeded with the new XP installation. I formatted the partion and the setup proceeded with copying the files on to the hard disk. This is when I encountered my first problem, when it kept on giving me error messages that file was not copied correctly, which is something I didn't encounter first time I set XP up on my system.(nor during the install in the other M.Board) These errors turned out to be mostly random during the sequential attempts to install the system, but happened every time.
When the system rebooted, the windows logo came on, shortly after which I get the error message that the system is not ACPI compatible. It sometimes suggests trying to disable video shadows and the caches in the BOIS, which I try, and they do not work. I have updated the bois to v3.5, but that does not help.
I also have windows ME (legal version not copy) but that is full of problems as well.  I managed to install it on to my PC but, after the installation finished as soon as I rebooted it gave me a “general system protection” error, when the OS started to boot up. After some experimentation, I found that I could log in safe mode, and if I removed the ACPI components in the system folder in the device manager, the system would be able to log into winME normal with any probs. But then my system would find the ACPI hardware, automatically install it and ask for a reboot. When it did it I would get the “general system protection” error again.
At this point I experienced a range of emotion as conveyed by these smilies  8o  ?(  X(  :(  :O  ;(
To check if it weren’t any one of my components that was causing the problem, I took out all of the components (that were compatible) inserted them in my second PC, and I was able to install both OS’s using the other motherboard, WITHOUT any probs. When I moved the hard drive back with the OS’s on, there were always complications, with setting up the hard ware.
Here are the specs of my PC:
    MSI KT7 TURBO2 M.Board
    Althon XP 1700
    2 x 128MB 133 Ram (256mb total)
Abit Siluro GF2 MX 400 Graphics card
    Realtek Network Card 10/100
    56X CD ROM
Maxtor 540 20 GB Hard Drive
And here are the spec of the system I used to test the components the only thing different was the M. Board and CPU:
     Gigabyte M.Board
AMD Duron 950 MHz (this is the max speed the Gigabyte one could support)
    2 x 128MB 133 Ram (256mb total)
Abit Siluro GF2 MX 400 Graphics card
    Realtek Network Card 10/100
    56X CD ROM
Maxtor 540 20 GB Hard Drive

      :D  :O  ;(  8o      :P  )
After all I tried it can down to a shaby stick of ram. Actual I didn't switch ram chips between systems, I might have descovered it my self if I had done so. I also disabled ACPI in my bois, which helped as well. I now have a stable installation of Win ME. Might try XP again later, but ME gets the job done.
Thanks for your help grout, tis was greatly appreciated

Here is my information, my motherboard doesn't post. I've tried with everything installed initially, and then I took it out of the case and just tried the power supply, RAM, and CPU plugged into the monitor with same results. I have the speaker plugged in. I don't hear any beeps, and the monitor just shows a black screen

Exactly how do i RMA the board? Can I just send it back from where I purchased it?
Hold up there buddy, dont rma it yet. I have the same board, had the same problem straight out of box. MSI sent out a batch of those boards with the wrong jumper settings. Look on your motherboard near the rear  ios inputs. look for a header labeled jusb-pw2. flip that jumper to the top two pins and clear the cmos and you should be good

  • KT7 Turbo2 Dead at the Post!

Ok, here goes and my apologies to wonk for direct e-mail, but am getting desperate. couldn't get on the forum last 2 days.
    System:  Athalon XP 1700
    MSI K7T Turbo2 version 5.0 (default bios)
256 meg PC 133 generic in bank 1
Enermax 350w, model EG-365 VE (rated 185w on 3.3&5 volts)
    fujitsu 20/Maxtor 40 Gbyte HD's
    Viper II
    Vortex II
    LG 12X burner/generic DVD
day one.  Took board and cpu home, got up next morning rolled up sleeves and started.
all assembled - power on 4 red leds.
broke into sweat, took processor back to vendor. he tried it in store system - good.
back to system, removed everything except video card, 1 HD (Maxtor) power on - 4 red leds.  reseated processor and memory several times.  Finally POST and successful boot up.
day two. power up system in morning - 4 red leds,  remove/install cpu & memory - system boots runs fine until two days ago.
power up - 4 red leds!!! try the remove and install route.
no luck. 4 red leds.  Give up, put back original mobo. search forum. some posts close but nothing quite same.
discounted heatsink/cpu - used heatsink compound each time, cleaned each time.
discounted memory - ran for 6 day no problem, right?
power supply should be adequate - new, rating is high enough.
voltages all in the middle of limits when system was up and running.  cpu temp ran at 42 deg. C (low) to 45 deg. (high).
any help/comments/suggestions welcomed and appreciated.  didn't have a lot of hair to spare before and less now  :D .
    thanks all,

Thanks for reply bas, but have used "white" paste.
Board and processor presently at vendor.  He has called and told me that he had no problem with either and that it runs well.
am picking up tomorrow and will let you know what we think. noticed some posts with older boards and power regulators and capacitors but think that that would be pretty far out in the woods considering that it is a new board and processor.
Also noted some posts describing using insulated washers on the mobo.  to my knowledge that should not make any difference. My old mobo did not use insulated washers and used the hardware from them.
From the sounds this is either something to do with my older box and hardware or an intermittent with the board and processor related to time off.
notice similar description in newer post by nicjean and and athalon xp 1800.  coincidence??

  • 925x no boot, no beeps, just fans

Received the 925X Neo Platinum and a boxed 3.4 Intel CPU and cooler. Installed it into an Antec case with 550 watt psu and 2 sticks of Crucial RAM. On power up, I get 3 red D led lights at #1, #3 and #4. I have a green #2 light. I have fans. Even the fan on the XFX PCIE card is spinning fast. No beeps, no video signal, just the same D Led lights each time.
I removed the board from the case and put it on a non conductive surface. Nothing but video, RAM and CPU. No change. Still the same D Led readout.
I tried removing RAM, single stick, different sockets. I R&Red the CPU and cooler to ensure they were in correctly.
I cleared the BIOS via the Jumper.
My ram is the Crucial DDR2, 400, CL3...........ECC....... I think I just found my answer. I have ECC ram. Oh well. Ordered it wrong.....
Any other thoughts to why no error beeps?

thanks... Is there any way to change that picture? Just wondering.
Yes, but no easy way. You would have to go through the process each time you upgrade the bios, basically doubling your chances for disaster. For the short time the image is on the screen it isn't worth it, but if you wish to pursue it browse through posts in the bios section authored by Legolas_xxxxx (there is a number after his name).

  • MSI Neo2 Platinum will not POST, but fans spin.

I bought this board about 2 months ago.
I install the board and it works fine, until a few weeks ago. Im playing fear and it crashes into BSOD...then every time i try to load a game BSOD. This points to the memory- so i look at my DDR booster, and teh memory is a little off...i correct it and the game loads fine. I play for a little longer, then exit to windows and then the computer just starts BSODing like every 5 minutes. So i was like " it" im going to cut the memory back...strangly, the only dividers that work were 133 and 183...the rest just did not work.
Then finally, i restart the computer, and no POST screen. I clear CMOS, nothing. Take the battery out for an hour, nothing. Take the memory out, no POST...I dont get it...the fans spin and everything powers on, but no signal is sent to the monitor.
Then today, a few weeks later, I plug in just a PSU and a video card.  Same thing happens:  Fans spin, no POST.  oddly enough, whenever power is supplied to teh mobo it turns on, it doesnt wait for a power button to be pushed.
2 things that might help diagnose the problem:
Almost every BSOD pointed to ntfs.sys
The PSU makes that clicking sound like its restarting about every 10 seconds when i boot up and there is no POST.
Anyone know what i need to do? All other componants work fine in a AV8 3rd Eye, so it is the mobo.
    Thank you.

Welcome to the Forum.  Please post complete system specs by creating a "sig" as described in the forum rules. Be sure to include complete power supply specs (brand, model and amps on 3.3, 5 and 12 volts) as shown on the label on the side of the power supply itself.  The fact that a component works in the ABIT board does not mean that it is not the problem in your board, so don't forget to list all components in reasonable detail (e.g., memory size brand specs, hd, cards).  Please confirm that you board is MSI #7025 too.  Good luck.
EDIT - We need to know your Bios version and whether you flashed, and if so, how and from and to what versions.
fixed.  All info should be in sig.  I have tried 2 different PSUs, my Powersream 520 and my Antec SL400 all to no avail.
I did flash my bios via booting off a floppy to the most recent beta bios, but it worked fine for a good while before eventually failing.
All the componants in the sig were working fine in the mobo, and my HTT was 305x9 Stable.  I was using a DDR Booster.
And im sorry, what do you mean by MSI #7025?

  • B&W G3: Reset mobo/new batt. won't help - no chime, just fans/HD

So I decide to give this old G3 I had one last boost from what was already a snappy machine.
    - Rev. 1 mobo
    - Powerlogix 800Mhz 750FX 512k L2 cache (G3)
    - 1 GB RAM
    - ATI 9200 128 MB PCI
    - SIIG ATA card - 2 HDs connected.
    - USB 2.0 4 port card
    - FW400 3 port card
So, I get a good deal with trade in from OWC on a Powerlogix 750GX (G3) @ 1 Ghz. Figure I'd bite...update the beast to Tiger, set it in a corner, and use it for surfing, iTunes, maybe a server in a future life (yes, yes, I know the Mac Mini price/performance ratio...I just couldn't let this Smurf go. My Digi Audio holds me over well otherwise).
So, swapping the new ZIF in (standard procedure - had upgraded many a ZIF over the years). Go to boot...no chime. The usual: PS and fans just running.
Checking the LEDs on the board indicates all is well. I pull all the cards, leave one stick of RAM, plug one of the HDs (both set as master) back into the board's connector. As bare bones as one can get.
Reset the Cuda. Same. Reset the mobo. Same.
Pull the HD from the equation. Figured just try to get a chime. Nada.
Pulled the RAM in hopes of a getting a hardware chime warning. Zip.
Picked up a new PRAM battery. Reset Cuda again. Same. Reset mobo...yup, same.
I don't get it. The thing was booting no more than 15 minutes prior, running Tiger on the 800 Mhz G3. Replacing the 800 Mhz reveals the same situation...
Any suggestions? I was thinking about swapping the board to a Rev. 2, but that entire "hey it worked 15 minutes ago" circumstance is driving me nutso.

    Demitrios,
Put your bootable HD connected to the ATA port on the Motherboard. Disconnect any HD from the ATA card.
Reset CUDA. And restart the mac.
    Hope this help
    Mauro

  • Macbook overheating (or is it just fan?)

Hi, i own my Macbook for several months now. it was bought in September 2007. My computer is up to date and im using Leopard (although the problem was present in Tiger too).
    so here is the problem:
my Macbook works fine most of the time, only sometimes fans go really wild and the computer gets hotter than it should (this occurs during moments of relatively non-intensive activity like listening to iTunes or browsing web).
When the fans do go wild I usually just restart the computer or close the lid to solve this cause the noise is really loud.
More importantly I cannot play World of Warcraft on my Macbook cause the second i enter the game - the fans start to go crazy (just as i described above). now i know this shouldnt be so - the game should be playable on the macbooks. But I never play WoW on my macbook cause i fear that it will overheat.
Is this something that can be fixed? Something wrong with the cooling system perhaps?

I think the fan action is still not relevant to the intensity of activities i do on my macbook.
You'd be surprised what web browsing or listening to music takes in terms of CPU resources.
Check Activity Monitor (in Utilities) to see what's using computing power. I've seen Safari or Firefox at over 100% CPU usage for a single processor core, especially when using complex embedded Flash or Java (this discussion board uses embedded apps). Sometimes there's embedded video ads. iTunes might possibly use reasonable CPU power as it's processing compressed data formats into uncompressed streams.
Of course what I find taxes the processors is high-def video.

  • K7T Turbo2 wont post with a Duron

    plz help me!
    My system is as follow
    2 x 256 legend brand pc133 SDRAM
    GF4 MX440 Video Card
    K7T Turbo2 Mainboard
    Seagate Barracuda
    Sony 52x24x52 CDRW
    250Watt Power Supply
The system used to run a 1.2 Duron perfectly. I then upgraded to a XP2400+ and flashed the BIOS to the latest version. Now when i try to run it with the 1.2 Duron againt it will not POST. I replaced the duron with a brand new 1.3GHz and still no POST. I put my 2400XP+ back in and the system worked perfectly. I have tried clearing CMOS and limiting the FSB to 100MHz and still no POST with the Durons. I am all out of ideas, i have replaced every component i can think of (Video card, PSU, RAM) and no luck.
    Someone please help me!

    Welcome,
First, you're lucky to get the XP and GF4 to run with such a low rated PSU (and this may lead to problems w/that config).
You did replace the J17 jumper for 100 FSB?
LED readings (see Manual)upon re-installing Duron (all red)?
Did you try clearing CMOS before re-installing Duron?
