KT7 Turbo2 Problems

I have the following:
MSI KT7 Turbo2
Athlon XP 1600+ Palamino
ATI 8500 All in Wonder
Running Windows XP w/ sp1
I have upgraded all drivers to the latest versions i could find.
The problem i am having is i cant run multiple programs at once and have them both running without screwing up.  For example while running winamp, if i try to open up IE the browser will open, but winamp will start running poorly and start crackling(best word i could think of).
Also when i installed an Athlon 1700+, it would come up as an unknown CPU type.
Has anyone had a problem like this and can help?
Tim

Hi,
Sounds like you would need to update your BIOS to the latest version to get 1700+ Support. I take it you have one of the older bios'?

  • ACPI problem on KT7 TURBO2

    Hi there,
I own a KT7 Turbo2 main board and am having serious problems with it. The problems started when my os (win XP) became unstable and I decided to reinstall it.
After doing my backups, I proceeded with the new XP installation. I formatted the partion and the setup proceeded with copying the files on to the hard disk. This is when I encountered my first problem, when it kept on giving me error messages that file was not copied correctly, which is something I didn't encounter first time I set XP up on my system.(nor during the install in the other M.Board) These errors turned out to be mostly random during the sequential attempts to install the system, but happened every time.
When the system rebooted, the windows logo came on, shortly after which I get the error message that the system is not ACPI compatible. It sometimes suggests trying to disable video shadows and the caches in the BOIS, which I try, and they do not work. I have updated the bois to v3.5, but that does not help.
I also have windows ME (legal version not copy) but that is full of problems as well.  I managed to install it on to my PC but, after the installation finished as soon as I rebooted it gave me a “general system protection” error, when the OS started to boot up. After some experimentation, I found that I could log in safe mode, and if I removed the ACPI components in the system folder in the device manager, the system would be able to log into winME normal with any probs. But then my system would find the ACPI hardware, automatically install it and ask for a reboot. When it did it I would get the “general system protection” error again.
At this point I experienced a range of emotion as conveyed by these smilies  8o  ?(  X(  :(  :O  ;(
To check if it weren’t any one of my components that was causing the problem, I took out all of the components (that were compatible) inserted them in my second PC, and I was able to install both OS’s using the other motherboard, WITHOUT any probs. When I moved the hard drive back with the OS’s on, there were always complications, with setting up the hard ware.
Here are the specs of my PC:
    MSI KT7 TURBO2 M.Board
    Althon XP 1700
    2 x 128MB 133 Ram (256mb total)
Abit Siluro GF2 MX 400 Graphics card
    Realtek Network Card 10/100
    56X CD ROM
Maxtor 540 20 GB Hard Drive
And here are the spec of the system I used to test the components the only thing different was the M. Board and CPU:
     Gigabyte M.Board
AMD Duron 950 MHz (this is the max speed the Gigabyte one could support)
    2 x 128MB 133 Ram (256mb total)
Abit Siluro GF2 MX 400 Graphics card
    Realtek Network Card 10/100
    56X CD ROM
Maxtor 540 20 GB Hard Drive

      :D  :O  ;(  8o      :P  )
After all I tried it can down to a shaby stick of ram. Actual I didn't switch ram chips between systems, I might have descovered it my self if I had done so. I also disabled ACPI in my bois, which helped as well. I now have a stable installation of Win ME. Might try XP again later, but ME gets the job done.
Thanks for your help grout, tis was greatly appreciated

  • Radeon 8500 & KT7-TURBO2 Freezing

Aside my Audio problems which will be solved by buying a new s/c, I have original ATi Radeon 8500 Retail Box version on MSI Kt7-TURBO2 and system freezes during game play in various games. Running latest BIOS from MSI , latest VIA drivers and latest ATI drivers. Anyone else having this prob ?

Hmm are those "not so important" settings loaded by the deafult BIOS settings ? I'vent tried the BIOS for my ATI yet, we'll see. Thanks.

  • KT7 Turbo2, continuous beeping..?

I just put together a KT7 Turbo2 system with a Duron 1200 Mhz cpu and 256 MB of PC-133 Ram. When I power on, I get a steady beeping which doesnt stop. If I push the reset button, the computer boots fine and the system works flawless. If I power down and power back up again,..same symptom. Im sure there is something like an intrusion alarm, or health monitor setting that is triggering this but I can't find it.
    Any help GREATLY appreciated.
    Sean.

Thats what I thought at first. What gets me is the fact that I can just push the reset button while it is beeping and it will boot to completion without fail. If the memory or video was bad you would think it would not work in any scenario. Once you are in XP, everything checks fine in device manager. The system works flawlessly.

  • Turbo2 problems

I have win2k server running on a msi k7t turbo2 board. it has an amd duron 750mhz cpu (unlocked) 768mb pc-133 sdram, 20gb seagate hdd... etc. a couple of days ago, it started screwing up. I had it running just fine for a few weeks before. It stated locking up in windows couple of days ago. Yesterday it had problems booting. Today, i turned it on got to the "preparing network connections" screen and locked up. After trying to reboot it, it wouldnt boot. I just get 3 beeps. one long, then two short; ie "beeeeeeeeeeeep beep beep" Nothing displays on the monitor, and unfortunateyl i have lost my manual so i dont know what the beeps mean. im sure that other around here have also used/use a turbo2.
The only hardware change was adding a modem, which was when this started happening. it didnt start happening straight away.
it was fine in this slot configuration: vid card in agp. #1 nic in pci slot 2, modem in pci slot 3, #2 nic in pci slot 4.
it started having problems in this slot configuration: vid card in agp. #1 nic in pci slot 2, #2 nic in pci slot 3, modem in pci slot 4.
i thought the modem was causing problems, so i removed it. it is currently in the second configuration, except without the modem.
One other thing to mention is that the computer is not in a case, it is in/on a shelf (which is touching the floor) of my computer desk. the board is ontop of an antistatic bag, and when i put it together i made sure there were no metal things shorting anything out, and the computer was working fine up until a couple of days ago. The only thing i can think of is that my mother going into my room and "tiying up" (aka, moving your stuff so you can never find it without making a mess, and then her getting angry at you) i think she might have kicked it, or when taking empty coca cola cans out of my room (i keep telling her to stay out and leave it alone, so annoying) and maybe she spillt some left over cocal cola onto the board, which would be really bad. or she could have kick some cables. I dunno, what are yuor ideas?

ok, its worse. my comps worse.
it turns on, but the screen is garbled. Question marks where theres supposed to be blank spaces. Instead of 12.15v for voltage, it has 12/15 .
    Instead of "standard cmos features"
it has "suandare cmos! feauuses" and other grabled weird things.
I turned it off, then back on, now it does the beeping again. The temperature is quite high for a duron 750. 45c. ive seen it reach 50+. think it could be fan?

  • KT7 Turbo2 Dead at the Post!

Ok, here goes and my apologies to wonk for direct e-mail, but am getting desperate. couldn't get on the forum last 2 days.
    System:  Athalon XP 1700
    MSI K7T Turbo2 version 5.0 (default bios)
256 meg PC 133 generic in bank 1
Enermax 350w, model EG-365 VE (rated 185w on 3.3&5 volts)
    fujitsu 20/Maxtor 40 Gbyte HD's
    Viper II
    Vortex II
    LG 12X burner/generic DVD
day one.  Took board and cpu home, got up next morning rolled up sleeves and started.
all assembled - power on 4 red leds.
broke into sweat, took processor back to vendor. he tried it in store system - good.
back to system, removed everything except video card, 1 HD (Maxtor) power on - 4 red leds.  reseated processor and memory several times.  Finally POST and successful boot up.
day two. power up system in morning - 4 red leds,  remove/install cpu & memory - system boots runs fine until two days ago.
power up - 4 red leds!!! try the remove and install route.
no luck. 4 red leds.  Give up, put back original mobo. search forum. some posts close but nothing quite same.
discounted heatsink/cpu - used heatsink compound each time, cleaned each time.
discounted memory - ran for 6 day no problem, right?
power supply should be adequate - new, rating is high enough.
voltages all in the middle of limits when system was up and running.  cpu temp ran at 42 deg. C (low) to 45 deg. (high).
any help/comments/suggestions welcomed and appreciated.  didn't have a lot of hair to spare before and less now  :D .
    thanks all,

Thanks for reply bas, but have used "white" paste.
Board and processor presently at vendor.  He has called and told me that he had no problem with either and that it runs well.
am picking up tomorrow and will let you know what we think. noticed some posts with older boards and power regulators and capacitors but think that that would be pretty far out in the woods considering that it is a new board and processor.
Also noted some posts describing using insulated washers on the mobo.  to my knowledge that should not make any difference. My old mobo did not use insulated washers and used the hardware from them.
From the sounds this is either something to do with my older box and hardware or an intermittent with the board and processor related to time off.
notice similar description in newer post by nicjean and and athalon xp 1800.  coincidence??

  • K7T turbo2 problem with HD

    K7T Turbo2 mainboard(V3.5, KT-133A chipset) with Athlon XP 1800+ CPU.
When I put Seagate 80gb drive,100 ST380021A at primary, WD 4GB as secondary. Says "Can not load operating system".  When I place 4GB western digital as primary and Seagate as secondary computer boots
fine.  can read secondary hard drive(80GB) just fine.  Seagate drive has OS windows 2000 loaded onto it.  ST works fine when I pop it as a primary on other systems win2k would load just fine.   Deleted OS folder and boot.ini from ST drive and tried to boot as primary, same error message.  Just can not get friggin mainboard to read my 80GB HDD as primary!!!
please help before I take this mainboard back...

What does your boot.ini contain?  It might be pointing to the primary slave, though i do see your point as to why it boots in primary in other comps.  Just post your boot.ini and I'll look to see if there is anything wrong or out of place.

  • KT7 Turbo2 - No Post - just fan...

I'm using known good components with a new Mobo and Athlon XP chip. I get the fan to cpu fan to turn on but vid card turns monitor off and no other response in the system. I've tried it with and without good memory, fd, hd, agp and pci vid cards.
Part of my problem is that I had trouble mounting the huge and stiff clipped speeze cooler and 'smooshed' arctic silver on the caps on the ceramic. I have to check if I have too many brass mounting pins on the case.
    1. Please let me know what else to try.
    2. I ordered a Palomino chip. How do I verify it is not a T'bred?
    3. Tell me I haven't fried the CPU.
    Thanks!

Do you get a keyboard init (all three lights flash briefly) soon after the motherboard powers up?  If not, it may be the CPU.  :(  I've fried a couple with Arctic Silver myself.  That dang stuff gets everywhere!  On the last one, about a week ago, I was clumsy and gooped too much on the core.  It got on the caps when I was removing the heat sink (I was comparing different fans).
Rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol does an okay job of cleaning it off.  This time I tried Formula 409 (what have I got to lose? It's not working anyway), and that is *excellent* at cleaning off the Arctic Silver.  I have let the chip dry out since then; I will probably reassemble it tonight, and I'll let you know if I get lucky.
Incidentally, I've played around with a number of different fans, heat sinks, Peltiers, etc.  I have had some of my best results using cheap "stock" fan/heat sinks, such as the CoolerMaster DP5-6J31C ($10 at PCClub).

  • K7T turbo2 problems

hi all, this is my problem -
This board was working fine for me for about 7 months then one day the Pc would not boot up. The problem is that the fans spin up but the screen stays blank and nothing else happens.  I cleared the bios with the jumpers and then it booted up again.  It worked for a month then i had to reset it again.  After a while i had to start resetting the BIOS every time the computer was reset/shut down and needed to be turned back on.  I changed the battery on the board which made no difference.  I tryed the hardware in other PCs and it all worked.  The LED diagnostic pannel shows "Assign all resource to ISAs" when the Pc wont boot up.   I flashed the BIOS AFTER the problem started and it made no difference.  Sometimes i need to reset the BIOS about 3 times before i can turn the PC on.  Also, even if i just go into the bios and save without making any changes, the Pc wont boot, even though i didnt change anything.

    Welcome
You pose a tough question on the surface. Perhaps if you list your system specs, including PSU, it will spark some helpful responses. I'm curious if you made any system changes (hardware or software) just before this problem first occurred?

  • KT7 Turbo problem

    Hello,
3 months ago, i installes windows xp on my system.
But when i started it up yesterday windows xp brings up the message. Windows save mode. Last know good settings,...
But neither of these things work. Suddenly it works after reconfiguring the settings and a format.
But now, a day later, i just have the same problem.
Windows doesn't want to start. And it also crashes when i want to format my drive.
Is this a typically problem of the msi board?
    Tnx!

    Hi,
Try a harddisk test, as if you harddisk has problems, you will get this over and over again..

  • KT7 Turbo2 keeps rebooting

I recently purchased this motherboard with an Athlon XP 1700+ processor, 256 MB PC133 SDRAM and 300W power supply.  When I remove the jumper 17 to set to 133, computer will continually reboot about 15 seconds after power up.  When I short J17, computer will boot fine, but processor is detected as 1.1 GHz.  BIOS is v3.6
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Taranis

put the cpu cooler on the correct way? It can go on 2 ways, only one is correct. Was there a blue plastic strip on the bottom of the CPU cooler? If so, you did remove it, right?  Sounds loke the cooler is making some contact and cooling the cpu enough at the lower speed, but not at 133.
What type of RAM? RAM set to SPD in the bios?

  • K7T Turbo2 power connector JPW1

K7T Turbo 2 power question. I’m unsure about the use of power connector JPW1, the 4-pin Molex ATX 12v connector (additional voltage for the CPU). I’ll be using an Athlon XP 1700+ and a 300W power supply with out the Intel P4 updated compliance that calls for the additional 4-pin 12v  :] Molex connector. My questions are:
    1. Is the additional 12v (JPW1 connector) plugged in to an ATX 12V PSU required for an Athlon XP 1700+ or can I leave it unplugged?
    2. Can I use a P4 adapter ATX cable for this purpose  :]  without problems rather than replacing my current PSU?

Ok im a newbbie, quick question,  I have a KT7 Turbo2 also, with a Durhon 1100 overclocked only to 1210, a 16x LG writer, a few fans and HD cooler, a 40gb Quantum Fireball AS PLUS HD.. nic card, and a Gforce 2 23mb DDR creative card.. my power supply is a generic 330 watt with the JPW1 connector and since the Mobo has a JPW1 connector on it, should I use it, I do a lot of downloading (i mean lots, like it never stops, my computer downs gigs of data 24/7 (server) ).. and im buring 24/7 also.. should I use it, what is the advantages.. ????  please let me know thanks
    Thanks )

  • Case Cooling

my case is running around 28*c is this pretty normal or is it kindve hot?
    i have a kt7 turbo2 motherboard and an amd xp 2000+

you know what guys... ambient temp/room temp is REALLY REALLY a VERY IMPORTANT factor in case/cpu cooling.
no matter how good your cooling is you'll just have to bear with a higher system temp if you live in a hot place...
in my case... well i'll just have to bear living in a place with 31°C as the lowest room temp (I am already lucky if i get downt to 29°C)  :]
