KT880 Delta and Amd Athlon XP Mobile

Does KT880 Delta will work with Athlon XP Mobile? PowerNow! features will work?
(AMI bios)

ordinary desktop boards won't support changing multiplier on the fly. only laptop mobos do this. mobile athlons XPs are only popular with overclockers, because of the unlocked multiplier in BIOS. not all mobos support Mobile Athlons though, some modifications may need to be done
however, the Athlon64 cpu's and mobos have "Cool n Quiet" technology, which follows the laptop PowerNow! feature, so when cpu is not heavily worked, the clock speed drops to 800mhz, allowing the CPU to run cooler and allows thermal controlled fans to operate slower   i think this would suit you better

  • !!!!!I CAN'T OVERCLOCK MY CPU. BIOS DOESN'T RECOGNIZE MY AMD ATHLON XP-MOBILE

    My configuration is this:
    Mainboard: MSI K7N2-DELTA2-FSR
    CPU: AMD Athlon XP-Mobile 2500+ 1855MHZ
    Video Card: CAPTIVA Nvidia 6600GT 128MB 128bit
Hard disk: Internal Maxtor DiamonMax 10 300GB S-ATA 16MB Buffer
Audio Card: Sound Blaster Audigy Live 5.1 24bit
    Power Supply: 400WATT
    DVD drive: LG 16X
SO I OVERCLOCK MY CPU UNTIL 3200+ (2200mhz), AND IF I WANT TO OVERCLOCK MORE DURING "POST", BIOS DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THE NEW VALUE (ES: FSB 200  / X11.5  = 2300mhz . DOESN'T RECOGNIZE).
PLEASE HELP ME OR CAN YOU TELL ME HOW CAN I RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM???

Please furnish us some more info concerning the memory you are using and power output of the 3.3v - 5v -12v rails of your power supply along with the name of its manufacturer.
Some mobile cpus start up with a lower multiplier and then go to the bios to use the preset settings in the bios.  If the cpu can't start with the bios settings, it remains at its start up values.  Your mobile may not be able to run at a multiplier of 11.5 with a 200fsb.  Drop its fsb back to 166 (stock fsb 133) and see if you can run it at its rated multiplier of 14.  That will equal 2324mhz.
Overclocking is finding a balance between the fsb and the multiplier that allows you to get the most stable speed out of the cpu.
You also have not mentioned what vcore voltage that you are using or the temps.
The memory that I'm using are : V-Data 512x2 MB DDR CL 2,5
    The power supply is 400watt chassis, 3,3V, 12V, 5V.
I tell you that with the mainboard ASUS I did't have this problem with the multiplier because I put 11.5 x 200Fsb.

I was looking for a 125watt board too and its really hard to find one from MSI that have the things I want, I cant even find a board with Nvidia chipset, amd2+ and support a 125 watt processor (or not tested OK yet) or some boards without a cpu support list yet. So no AM2+ for you if you want a 125watt processor on it and a nvidia chipset. is there any reason why MSI cant fix 125watt support?
If you dont care about a future quadcores upgrade you can buy a old AM2 board, but dont forgot to look at the cpu support list, because the most AM2 boards doesnt support 125watt either.  ???

That is not true, 125W support usually have high end mainboards.

  • OCI 9.0.1 and AMD Athlon Processor

    Hello,
I have a client who is using an Oracle 8.1.7 server and is connecting from workstations running OCI 9.0.1 (the 9i R1 client). This is working fine except for on one workstation. The only known difference with this machine is that it is using an AMD Athlon processor (all the others are Intel processors).
The behavior appears to be that for floating point numbers, Oracle/OCI is telling our product that the numbers are integer numbers (no decimals). Thus, my application is not displaying the decimal places (since it is being told there are none).
    All other workstations work fine.
Any ideas? I am wondering if there is a known issue with the AMD Athlon processor and the oracle 9.0.1 client...? I am attempting to convince the user to try the 9.0.2 client, but I don't want to waste his time.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
    Rob

    Thanks Adrian.
I'll try to get him to run a straight select, but I don't even know if they installed SQL-Plus on the machine. He hasn't exactly been cooperative (I've asked him to check other areas of my application and he doesn't) so I don't know what he will do.
As for the sqlnet.ora file, I am not sure what to look for in there...? or do you suggest blowing it away and starting over?
    Thanks again,
    Rob

  • MSI KT4 ultra and AMD ATHLON 2600+ and Corsair 512Mb 3200

    Hello,
    i've bought a: MSI KT4 ULTRA and a AMD ATHLON 2600+
Today, i've updated the bios to the version 1.3! So: no problem to reboot after the process complete.
BUT, now i can't set the CPU at 2.16Ghz (280Mhz clock) because if i set the clock up to 100Mhz it doesn't reboot anymore! the motherboard detect the frequency @ 1250 Mhz :(((
    Please: HELP ME
(sorry for the grammar and / the english) but i'm a french guy.

    Hi,
I had the same issues, see the thread:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/e_service/forum/viewindex.php?threadid=11717&boardid=13&styleid=1
Essentially I had to set (in the BIOS) the FSB to 166 and left the Multiplier on auto.  This ment the processor was reported properly as 2600+, but the memory will only run at 333 MHz...  Yeah I think I wasted the money on getting the latest and greatest memory too....
Had me worried for a while, I though my supplier had palmed a bad chip off on me....  It just that the board can't do the highest speed chips and the highest speed memory at the same time (it states that that is unsupported in the manual...)
    hope the helps...

  • FX5900XT-VTD128 Board hangs with Mother board ASUS A7NE8X-E de Luxe and AMD Athlon 3000+

    Hello Folks,
Please, I need your Help !!!
I bought a new FX5900XT-VTD128 Board and I am trying to install it in my new PC and it hangs the PC. It has just frozen it and I can not access neither the Bios or anything else. If I use my old Nvidia 4, everything works fine. My Mother board is a ASUS A7NE8X-E de Luxe and Monitor is a LG Flatron 17" Model: T710SH. The Bios of my PC is the last version liberated by ASUS version 1012 E. My Processor is an AMD Athlon 3000+ DDR 400 - The PC has 1GBDRAM (DDR - 400).
Does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem ?
    Thanks,
    Mario

    Hi Kingfisher,
    Thanks for your help.
But the Video Cards hangs in the Boot moment, before MS Windows XP comes in and the driver begins to act. My concern is a hardware conflict or a incompatibility or even hardware defect.
What kind of troubleshooting is ideal ?

  • Kt4v-L and amd athlon xp 2200+ issue.

    Hey all,
I'm new to the boards here and am in complete desperation.
I just received my new AthlonXP 2200+ in the mail and went to put it in.  I had some minor issues with CPU acknowledgement (reporting it as a 1500+)  so I flashed to version 1.8 of the KT4V mainboard bios.  After the flash was completed (done with livebios btw) My system will no longer boot into Windows.  It WILL boot into safe mode, but as far as actual fully functional windows, it stalls just before the windows logo shows during the loading screen, kind of like a transparent image.
I'm not really all that proficient in all the computer lingo..so i may leave something out,if so please let me know and ill dig up the needed info. But this is my system setup:
Mainboard:  MSI Kt4V-L  Bios version 1.8
    Cpu:        AMD Athlon XP 2200+
    Power:      Alliance 450W
    Video:      Visiontek GeForce 3 TI500
Sound:      Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy X-Gamer
    Ram:        Samsung 512 DDR400
Hard Drive: Western Digital 10 gigabyte
    CD-RW:      Sony
    CD-ROM:     Creative labs
    Lan:        Onboard
If anyone has any idea what my problem might be, and any possible way to remedy this situation, It would be greatly appreciated  :D

Alright... I think your FSB is set wrong.  MSI says that a 100mhz FSB is incompatible with DDR400 memory, so that probably explains your windows boot problem.  To check that, enter the bios when you turn your computer on and go to "Frequency and Voltage" (press delete to enter the bios).  Set the front side bus to 133mhz.  That is most likely the problem since a 2200+ has a 13.5 multiplier, and 13.5 *100 = 1350mhz, which is about the same speed as a 1500+.  Also, check to make sure your RAM speed is set to auto.  I think that option is found under Advanced chipset options (it's the third one on the left).  Post back if that works or not.

  • KT4V and AMD Athlon Xp 2400+

Ive got a KT4V motherboard with a Geforce MX 440 Graphics card, 512DDR PC2100 Ram and an AMD Athlon Xp 2400+ Cpu. I was wondering wether anyone could tell me anything i could do to make my system run that bit faster without overclocking.
Im gonna get a new case soon with a better power supply and cooling so im glad to hear any suggestion for overclockin as well. Its not gonna be watercooled or anything like that so i cant go extreme with the fsb and stuff.

problem is your ram, your best o/c is lower multiplier, read the wire trick thread as you need that and then run it at 166 fsb or a bit more
but chances are at 166 your rams not going to boot being only pc 2100
so leave it be as far as multiplier and raise fsb a bit at a time
due to the multiplier bit your chipset uses at around mid 140 fsb it will not boot as agp and pci will be out of specs to much

  • KT880 Delta Random Restarts

I just bought a MSI KT880 Delta for a older PC my dad had just laying around. It had an old Gigabyte mobo that had SDRam issues, so I decided to upgrade. This is a PC for my fiance, and I'm loving the board until now. It's not restarting itself as in errors, it's almost like a short somewhere. I took out a cd and shut the cdrom and it restarted. Also I was unplugging the sound because I'm having the sound issues I found in some searches and it restarted. Just the movement, or bump of the tower will restart the PC. Problem is I'm not able to diagnose this problem, or see where it's coming from. Does this mobo have some kind of failsafe feature for things on the back not to be removed without restart in the BIOS? I'm thinking this is the only logical explanation for the shorts and restarts. But, if it shorts out like that shouldn't it just stay off as said and set in the BIOS? Thanks for anything guys. Specs are:
    MSI KT880 Delta
    1GHz AMD Athlon
    Kingston 1GHz DDR Dual Channel
    Maxtor 40 gig HDD
    Nvidia 5200FX Vid Card
    Allied 350W PSU

I went completely back in and did exactly just that. I figured if it's having physical problems, I mean to where I can bang the thing like a car and it restarts it has to be a connection. I redid everything and it didn't turn off this time and I smacked it up pretty good, lol. Anyhow I was looking at the front panel and maybe, just maybe I pushed in the panel too far in so the restart button was touching just enough. I set it in sitting up and like I said now it runs like it's supposed to.
Now to tackle this sound issue, would you happen to know why it sounds like it's only half way up and poor quality? I'm going to pursue some searches in the meantime, but i figured I'd ask anyway. Thanks Grayone.

You can test the memory by downloading this program,
    http://www.memtest.org/download/1.40/memtest86+-1.40.floppy.zip
Creates a bootdisk which you must boot from. (Disk cannot be read in windows)
If the PSU cannot provide enough power then running the memory at a lower frequency can help, as 333Mhz uses less power than 400Mhz.
Test the memory at 333Mhz and see if you get any errors, maybe ask a friend to run the memory at 400Mhz with memtest.
If it does run at 400Mhz (200Mhz) without any errors then it is not faulty.
From this point forward you will always test any memory modules that you buy with memtest.
It is a very useful program.

  • KT880 Delta Issues

    Hi guys...first post here!!
Just bought a new KT880 mobo to run a Sempron 2800+ 2.0Ghz chip.  My problems are these...
    1) When I switch on the machine, I am getting 2 quick beeps, with 4 rapid beeps after that.  With this is a message which states "Your CPU Fan had been disconnected or running at low RPM"  On researching google, I found that this was requiring an upgrade to Bios version 1.9, which I did successfully.  However the beeps and message remain!!
    2) Some of my hardware is not being detected by the Bios and, subseqeuntly, not showing in WindowsXP.  I have 2 HDDS set up as master and slave on IDE1.  The Master is being detected, the slave is not!  This is the same configuration I was using on my old setup, but on the KT880 is not?  I also have my DVDRom drive, and CD-Rom set up on IDE2 as master and slave.  Here, the slave is being detected, but the master is not?
    All very strange!!!
My setup (I am at work, so cannot tell you that much), is as follows:
    KT880 Delta Mobo
    AMD Sempron 2800+ 2.0ghz
1.5Ghz DDR333 (Bios has been setup to reflect this, so memory is detected as it should be!!)
    80Gb Seagate Barracuda ATA133 HDD
20Gb Maxtor HDD (old, cant remember complete specs)
    Samsung DVD-Rom/CD_Writer
    Sony CD-Rom
    Gainward GeForce MX440 128Mb 4x AGP Video
    Soundblaster LivePLayer! 1024 soundcard
I hope this helps....really could do with some hints or solutions
    Cheers

    Hello!
Good list of specs, but we should also learn what PSU you got, and the max amperes(A) it can provide. This board is the "heaviest" VIA, so you need 18A on the 12V line.
After installation of a new mobo, at least a Repair Installation of Windows is required. When you do this, have as little as possible in. For example disconnect the Slave hard disk, take out the sound card, only one stick of memory, only one CD device.

  • KT6 Delta and memory problems

Before I begin let me post my specs:
    Mobo: KT6 Delta
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2700+ @ 166 FSB
    RAM: 1 stick Corsair 512MB DDR400
    P/S: 430W
Now that that's out of the way..... I got a stick of Elixir 256MB DDR466 today for Christmas.  Now keep in mind the KT6 Delta is only supposed to support up to DDR400, but it should still work, right?  Well, when I put in the new memory, my mobo only reads the new 256MB stick.  The old 512MB stick works fine by itself, though.  I've tried switching the sticks around and putting them in different slots, but nothing seems to work.  I even tried forcing the SDRAM Frequency to 400MHz under the BIOS... nothing.
Should there be a way to make this configuration work with certain BIOS settings?  Or will I have to return the gift?
    Thanks.

I can understand getting a problem from mixing different memory speeds, but we have 4 computers in our household and we've been mixing sizes and brands for a while now, so your post took me by surprise.  In fact, my youngest brother used to have a 256, a 64, and a 16MB stick, all of different brands, and some of which were overclocked.   From my experience I wouldn't say it "almost always" causes a problem.  I don't doubt your expertise though, you've clearly been here longer than me.  I'm just trying to understand what's going on, and this whole thing has left me a bit confused.
But whatever.  I'll see if the gift can be returned. Thanks.

  • KT880 delta 12v power connector

I just purchased a Kt880 delta and see that it has a 12v cpu power connector which my atx power supply does not have.   do I need this connector?.  The msi web site says it is used for p4's.

Yes, a new PSU is in order. The KT880 board relies heavily upon the 12V and 3.3V, while (like many newer boards) largely ignoring the 5V.
As mentioned previously, avoid cheap PSU's, as they cannot always deliver the power needed for modern systems. Many cheap PSU's use a high amp rating on the 5V rail, to claim they have a PSU that can deliver more juice, but they simply cannot run a newer system.
