Hello,
I've been working on this a simillar case since a month!!
I don't want you to wate your time!
AD2008 Standard is not supported.....this is it!!
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/nac/appliance/support_guide/agntsprt.html#wp103186
Cisco said it is not tested for 2008 standard, but beleive me, with this TAC case opened for a month, and no answer from the development team till now! You better try 2008 Enterprise.
I tried AD2008 Enterprise R2, and it works like magic!
Hope this will help.
Have a lovely day

  • Default OS performance counters processor, memory, logincal disk are missing in windows 2008 standard server

I have a windows 2008 standard server in which the default OS performance counters counters processor, memory, logincal disk are missing.
I tried using exctrlst.exe tool. This tool shows that the respective performance counters are already enabled but when I check in perfmon.msc, these counters are not visible.
I also tried to rebuild the performance counters from the OS disk. but it did not worked. still the counters are missing.
Because of these counters are missing, am unable to monitor the utilization of CPU, memory and disks.
any suggestions, workaround, recommendations or solutions. it will be more helpful and highly appreciated !!!!.

    Hi GK,
According to your description, it seems that the issue was the same as the one described in the article below. If you are running Windows Server 2008 64-bit, you can check the KB below:

  • Oracle 11g ODAC 11.1.0.6.21 on Windows 2008 Standard server gives TNS error

    Hi,
I have Oracle 11g ODAC 11.1.0.6.21 installed on my Application server that has 32 bit Windows 2008 Standard. The Oracle database 10g is installed on another 2008 server. On database server I can connect using SQLPlus. But on application server I cannot connect using ODAC SQLPlus. I have given correct service name in tnsnames.ora file.
Error is ORA-12154 TNS: Listener cannot resolve service name
What's wrong? Is 11.1.0.6.21 not meant for Windows 2008? I did not get any errors while installing.
This 11.1.0.6.21 works perfectly for me on XP machine.
I have browsed this forum but not getting clear steps to peform.
Can someone guide me what is needed?
    Thanks

    Hi,
The request to connect from the client is reaching the server but it seems the parsing of the service name is either wrong or the information is correct. Here are a couple of suggestions.
If you have a good known set of sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora files on another client where the same connection descriptor works, then backup the curreny client network config files and copy the good known files to the Windows 2008 web server where you see the error. Make sure you recycle the worker processes once the files have been copied.
Try to connect via Ezconnect and by pass the config files to see if you get the same error.
    //hostname:port/servicenameofdb
where hostname is the machine where the target database is running
port is the port on the DB machine where the tns listener is running and listening
service name is the service name of the target DB
Use this syntax in the connect string box when attempting to connect from SQL PLUS out of the ODAC home.
You can also run lsnrctl utility on the server and vertify there is a handler for the service name or instance that is the target,

  • System.Windows.Forms.SaveFileDialog not working under Windows 2008 R2 Server

I am using Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit) that is been virtualized with Hyper-V and it is being used as a "Remote Desktop Server".
I am trying to use this PowerShell code that will open a "Save-File-Dialog" box to select the PDF file and send it to my "batch" file for scanning.  This code works great on my Windows Vista machine and my Windows 7 32-bit machine
but I cannot get it to work on the "Windows 2008 R2 Server (64-bit)".  It will not come up with any window at all and it will not produce any errors at all, so I can't exactly google for this issue.  I am using PowerShell 2.0 from 2009.
Any ideas?  I tried it from an Admin account and a regular domain users and neither worked at all, no errors, no window, no nothing.
    *** Update ***
I took Out-Null out and I received this...
      GAC    Version        Location
    True   v2.0.50727     C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL\System.Windows.Forms\2.0.0.0__b77a5c561934e089\System.Windows.Forms.dll
I then checked the path and the DLL file was in there and it had read and execute permissions for Domain users and Administrators and the window still won't pop up...
Here is the entire code in question.....
    # Uses the dot net assembly to give the users a Save-File-Dialog box so they can decide where to put the pdf file
    Function Get-SaveFile($initialDirectory){
    [System.Reflection.Assembly]::LoadWithPartialName("System.windows.forms") | Out-Null
    $SaveFileDialog = New-Object System.Windows.Forms.SaveFileDialog
    $SaveFileDialog.initialDirectory = $initialDirectory
    $SaveFileDialog.filter = "PDF files (*.pdf)| *.pdf"
    $SaveFileDialog.ShowDialog() | Out-Null
    $SaveFileDialog.filename
    # open dialog box to select the .nessuss file.
    $OutputFile = Get-SaveFile
    # User selected where they want to put the scanned.pdf file and it will automatically set it to .pdf for them
    start-process Scan $OutputFile

I ran the code you have in your function on a Windows 2008 Standard server, and it seems to be hanging on the line
    $SaveFileDialog.ShowDialog()
    | Out-Null
It just sits there and nothing happens, but if I run it on my Windows 7 machines, it runs without any issues. So it seems like the dialog opened, but behind the scenes, and is waiting on the user, but since it doesn't open, the user can't do anything.

  • Windows 2008 standard hangs during chkdsk

I have a file share server running windows 2008 standard edition.  It is connected to a SAN via Fiber channel.  There are 4 volumes presented to the Server via the SAN.  After a critical error occured, I restarted the server and the OS requested
that I run chkdsk on the SAN volumes.  I allowed it to run.  It quickly got to the indexs, but then got hung at about 49% in stage 2.  After letting it set for several hours, I was forced to hard boot.  Upon restart, I did not allow the
chkdsk to run as this is a production server.  The server booted up with no issues and all of the data was intact.  I recently migrated the data via Thin Import to a new SAN.  All of my data now resides on a brand new set of discs in my compellent
array.  To save down time, I presented the volumes to the server using the same drive letters.  The server immediatly asks to run chkdsk on these volumes.  I run chkdsk and it still hangs in the same spot on the indexes.  I've made snapshots
of the volumes and presented those to another server.  After running a rescan in disk managment, that server requests a scan and fix.  I let that run and it completes.  I'm at a loss on how to correct this issue.  The data seems fine, but
    chkdsk will not complete.

    Hi,
Stage 2: Chkdsk checks the directories in the volume. Based on your description, please use
chkdsk /x command to force the volume to dismount. Then check if you can execute the process of chkdsk successfully.
Meanwhile, please go to Event Viewer and check if you can find some related errors.
    Hope this helps.

    Jason...
Make Certain that you Had the Server In "TS-Install" Mode When you Installed Acrobat. It Is In your Control Panel. I Have Pasted the MS Help File Below.
Install Programs on a Terminal Server
You should install the Terminal Server role service on the computer before you install any programs that you want to make available to users. If you install the Terminal Server role service on a computer that already has programs installed, some of the existing programs may not work correctly in a multiple user environment. Uninstalling and then reinstalling the affected programs may resolve these issues.
To ensure that an application is installed correctly to work in a multiple user environment, you must put the terminal server into a special installation mode before you install the application on the terminal server. This special installation mode ensures that the correct registry entries and .ini files that are needed to support running the application in a multiple user environment are created during the installation process.
You can put a terminal server into this special installation mode by using either of the following:
Install Application on Terminal Server tool under Programs in Control Panel. This tool will run a wizard to help install the application.
Change user /install command at a command prompt. You will have to start the installation of the application manually.
After the application is installed, you must put the terminal server into execution mode before remote users begin using the application. The Install Application on Terminal Server tool will automatically put the terminal server into execution mode when it is finished running. To put the terminal server into execution mode from a command prompt, use the change user /execute command.
    Additional considerations
Some programs may require minor setup modifications to run correctly on a terminal server.
If you have programs that are related to each other or have dependencies on each other, you should install the programs on the same terminal server. For example, you should install Microsoft Office as a suite on the same terminal server instead of installing individual Office programs on separate terminal servers.
You should consider installing individual programs on separate terminal servers in the following circumstances:
The program has compatibility issues that may affect other programs.
A single program and the number of associated users may fill server capacity.
For more information about the change user command-line tool, see the Terminal Services Command Reference (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=89674).
For more information about deploying programs on a terminal server, see the Terminal Server page on the Windows Server 2008 TechCenter (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=79608).

  • Add Windows 2008 Terminal Server to RWW/RWA

I would like to add our Windows 2008 Terminal Server (not R2) to RWW in Windows 2012R2 Essentials.  The connect computer wizard did not work on the Windows 2008 server, returning Win32 error.
How do I add the 2008 TS to the devices listing in RWW without using the connector wizard (as it does not work).   The Windows 2008 server has been join to the same domain manually.

You cant add it as a tile device in the way you could in SBS 2011 Standard.
You can create an RDP file, and save that so it is accessible via the RWA then add a link to the RWA to that file.
You may need to tweak IIS to allow .rdp files.

  • Dism command in windows 2008 SP2

Ho do I run the command
dism /online /cleanup-image /spsuperseded to clean up winsxs folder in windows 2008 SP2.I got message /online command works only in windows 2008 r2,and in windows 2008 sp2 it needs to be run in offline, can any one give idea how i run this command
    in windows 2008 sp2

    Hello,
Firstly, please keep in mind that WinSXS folder is an important directory that keeps the shadow copy of the important system files, which gets changed during any installation of Patches or Updates or software. With the use of WinSXS Folder all system files
can be reverted back to the stage where it was before installation of Patch/Update. Hence, it’s not wise to wipe the WinSxS folder.
Secondly, just like the warning message suggested, DISM can only be used in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 (Not in Windows Vista or in Windows Server 2008). For Windows Server 2008 SP2 or Windows Vista SP2, there is tool called Windows Component Clean
    Tool (COMPCLN.EXE).

Due to a software requirement, I'm investigating the possibility of creating an 8 vcpu Windows 2008 Standard Edition 64-bit guest.
In Vsphere, its possible to create an 8 vcpu windows 2008 Standard Edition guest by configuring the "cpuid.coresPerSocket" parameter to 2, which allows the Standard Edition windows license to see 8 cores without violating the standard licensing which caps it at 4 processors.
Is there a similar functionality in Oracle VM Server?
    Thanks.

    Hi Simon,
Read that link you sent and I believe it allows us to play around with cpu cores in Windows Standard Editions in virtual environments.
"Software run in a virtual OSE is licensed based on the number of virtual processors used by that virtual OSE. If the physical processors in the server have two cores, each virtual processor also has two cores from a licensing perspective."
So its up to us to configure the cores as it defaults to single core for each vcpu.
I've tested in vsphere using 4 vcpus and setting it for 2 cores each. The OS sees only 2 processors but I've got 4 threads in task manager. If I revert to 4 single core vcpus, the OS sees 4 processors.
I'm trying to see if I can do the same in Oracle VM and am trying to understand the cpuid setting in the vm.cfg. The examples given in xmexample.hvm-stubdom are for Intel 8 core and AMD 5 core but all I have is AMD dual core.
So trying to figure out how to set it correctly in my situation. Haven't found any detailed documentation for configuring those ebx, ecx, edx settings.

  • OS X Leopard and Windows 2008 file server mount_smbfs

    Hello
I am unable to use the command mount_smbfs to mount a share on a Windows 2008 file server in OS X 10.5.8 Leopard.
Here is what I am trying to do:
I have a Mac Mini running OS X 10.5.8 that is joined to a Windows 2003 Active Directory domain. I also have a stand alone Windows file server running Windows Server 2008.
I want to mount a share on the Windows 2008 file Server using the command line and not Finder. I do have a reason for wanting to do this which I wont bore you with.
On the Mac Mini, I log in with an Domain account that has permission to access the file shares on the Windows 2008 file server. In Terminal I do the following:
    cd /Users/username
    mkdir mountpoint
    mount_smbfs //windows2008server/fileshare /Users/username/mountpoint
This command should mount the share "fileshare" hosted on server "windows2008server" in the folder "mountpoint" on the Mac Mini.
    Here is the problem:
When I execute this command, I get:
Password: so I put in my password
    then I get:
mount_smbfs: mount error: /Users/username/mountpoint: Broken pipe
    Analysis of the problem:
I tried exactly the same commands to mount a share on a Windows 2003 file server. I am not asked for my password and the share mounts perfectly. I also tried the same command in OS X 10.6 to mount a share on a Windows 2008 file server, again, I was not asked for my password and the share mounted perfectly.
So the problem is only mounting Windows 2008 file shares using mount_smbfs in OS X 10.5.8. I am not sure quite what is going wrong here, as the Mac is joined to the domain, it is granted a Kerberos ticket so should not be asking for my password. Is this a known bug in OS X 10.5? Is there a fix/workaround for it?
    Many thanks
    Richard.

Not sure what user the mount command defaults to. You may want to specify your user name in the mount command (you can also specify the password). Try using this:
    mount_smbfs //username@windows2008server/fileshare /User/username/mountpoint
Of course substituting the Windows 2008 account name you are mounting with for the username.
    Cheers,
    Dave

  • Windows 2008 Standard 32bits PAE

Hi All. I am trying to turn on PAE on windows 2008 Standard 32bits.
i use bcdedit /set pae forceenable
    to enable.
    however after restart.
Still can't see 4GB memory on task manager.
ESX host has already add 4GB to that guest. .........Any idea..

    Hi,
For windows 32 bit standard memory limit is 4 G. So you cannot enable PAE or it wont have any affect on 32 bit standard windows server.
    Read
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/windows/desktop/aa366778(v=vs.85).aspx#physical_memory_limits_windows_server_2008
To enable PAE you must have capable version of windows. By capable I mean which can see more than 4 G of memory
