Kudos to the IE Team For Fixing a Long-Standing Bug

Just to show I don't always come to Microsoft.com to complain (though there is a lot to complain about), I just wanted to say that whatever the IE team (and/or forum development team) has done to correct problems with IE scripting locking up during visits
to long threads on this site...
Thank you.
One can visit very long threads and actually expect them to actually be displayed in a short time.

  • "All of the Playlists Selected for Updating No Longer Exist"

My family has 2 ipod shuffles. After purchasing a Nano recently, I inserted the cd that came with it. Apparently the existing iTunes software was removed and reinstalled. At any rate, the library still shows all the original songs, but when the Nano is plugged in, iTunes immediately gives a prompt stating "Songs on the iPod *** cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for updating no longer exist." The library is there, the playlists that were there are there, and I can play the songs on my cpu. Is there anything I can do besides completely uninstalling everything and starting over?

  • Bootcamp Version 3.1 --List of bug reports for the Development Team to fix.

Please create a list of bug fixes for the Development Team to address in the next version of Bootcamp (e.g., 3.2). This thread assumes that all users are presently running Bootcamp 3.1:
    1. Sound should not be muted every time a user reboots a newer MacBook laptop using Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit. My sound is always muted when I load Windows 7 Ultimate, and I have to manually turn it on each time.
    2. Left and right clicks on the trackpad should work out of the box using Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit. My left click operates a little less than 50 percent of the time -- i.e., I click it and nothing happens. I had to switch to "tap to click" as a workaround, however, I prefer the good old solid left click.
Please step right up and add to the bug report list so that the developers have a checklist of issues that need to be fixed. When the bug report list has grown to a respectable size, I'll send an official letter to the C.E.O. to facilitate the bug reports reaching the development team.

FWIW, I don't have the symptoms you describe. So I think before you call a symptom a "bug" I think you should confirm that it is indeed a "bug" and not a configuration, software, or hardware issue caused by something such as incorrect installation, incorrect setup, or any other third party or user caused action.
Also, FWIW, I don't think this forum is intended to be used as a survey for gathering "bugs". Apple has an official feedback page where they gather user experiences such as yours. I think if you post your "bugs" there they will get faster attention than posting them here in this user-to-user help forum.

  • (BUG REPORT) Kudos to the Dev Team OS 2.0 Rocks Major Improvement

Kudos to the BB Playbook OS 2.0 Dev Team (Excellent Release!!)I want to give my personal thanks as a loyal blackberry customer to the Developer/ Coding Team over at RIM. I am thoroughly impressed with the update. I absolutely love the reader feature. The new home screen and folders is implemented wonderfully. Also, it appears battery life has been improved (No easy task). Great job.
There are a few little bugs to be fixed for the next maintanence update.
    1. Flash is not polished, it's only partially working.
The daily show (with John Stewart) (www.thedailyshow.com)(full episodes link), and several other flash video webistes have trouble with the controls (play, pause). The controls either don't show, or don't function, or neither, or function sporadically. Also, possibly an app could be created so that a flash video stream would open in a separate window allowing the controls to function correctly if there is some reason it is difficult in the web browswer. I can get the daily show playing but, pausing it, or fastforwarding, now that's a challenge. Make the buttons larger maybe (I don't know if that's possible, not familiar with flash.)
    2. Media Player: The media player has some bug in the code that is causing it to become choppy when scrolling through the list of songs.  I have some album art, and maybe that has something to do with it. But I didn't notice it before the update.
Also, it may be a neat idea to add some different color backgrounds to the music player skin(Hot pink, or something) to take care of the lady geeks, women buy stuff too, think all girl dorm room full of playbooks. Also, it is kind of a less than sexy music player skin (Unlike the new home screen wow, very polished.) Also, because all my music doesn't have album art, it makes the music player look strange. Some of the icons have only 3 of 4 pictures filled in Looks weird.
Also, when fast forwarding with the slider bar clicking with my finger causes a slight pop in the earphones (It needs to mute, then fastforward, then unmute, then play.) Imagine a playbook hooked up at a wedding to a 5000 dollar soundsystem, pop, then bye bye speakers.
    3. Book Reader Power Mode - I was using "Book Reader" app from the app store and I noticed something that could be fixed. The truth is that when people read ebooks, the power managment settings should be a little different. I suggest adding a 3rd power managment mode that the ebook reader apps can access. That way, every time I open an ebook it sets the screen to stop going dim every 30 seconds like I would use for messages and general use throughout the day. It should stay the same in this mode rather plugged in or not. The screen brightness should not be affected by the power plug either. "Nothing like waking the wife up with the flashlight tablet because it was going dead and you decided to plug it in while reading your technical manual at 2am."
    4. Silent on schedule (Totally Silent, VIP Vibrate, VIP ring) (A feature that I wished both my bold 9700, and playbook had was a feature I'll call silent on schedule. The idea is simple, for the most part people know what time they need their phone to shut up and be quiet. Why can't RIM integrate silent mode with our calenders. A simple checkbox in the calender options and your phone (and playbook) will automatically stay silent, except for VIPs. It goes without saying that your ringer should go to normal at the end of the meeting, or court appearance (lots of lawyers use blackberry), lot's of students would appreciate this too. It would save us from having to constantly be changing our ringing mode all day. If I were RIM I would patent that one. (If you do, and want to send me a new touch screen phone as a thanks that's cool with me, but not required, just free thoughts for you to use however you want.)
    5. Strange WiFi (The playbook has a strange issue where sometimes the wifi displays near zero. I don't know if this is software or hardware. My MBP and Bold 9700 have no such issue. It's a cisco/linksys router with dual g/n.
    6. Before I forget, the web browswer is now awesome. Load times are acceptable. I would like to add though that of all the web browswer's the style, and color of this one is not what I would call "in fashion."
    7. Idea: create an over the air sync system for the blackberry bridge. It should always keep the contacts, calender and maybe photos updated. Since, someone surely has a patent on this one, let me suggest a workaround called 1 at a time. Do an initial sync via usb to both devices on the desktop manager. Then only one device has to ever be connected to sync to laptop, as the other one syncs over bluetooth one item (contact, calender entry, photo at a time.)
    8. Not always on bluetooth. Something tells me that it is not the most secure thing to leave the bluetooth constantly running and connected giving those keys over the air. Maybe it could connect at intervals (or upon status change (message, new contact, calender entry)). This might also save battery too. Just a thought.
I know how easy it is to forget about style, when mechanics are tinkiering around with the insides, but make the fastest car ugly, and no one will buy it. Also, Bill Gates was asked while in the presence of Steve Jobs what was the one thing Steve had he wished he had... Bill Gates said roughly "I wish I had Steve's eye for Style."
The truth is as technology advances, it will fade to the background. Fashion will be where people meed the device. People love a good running car, but gorgeous get's em into the showroom.
Oh yea, like the new keyboard a lot.

Have I mentioned how much i love my playbook now Great job on os 2.0

  • Kudos for Fixing an Old Crash Bug

For a very long time, with Ps CS5 and CS4 whenever I would try to use Photomerge directly with raw files as input I would occasionally see Photoshop just crash out or quit without any message (maybe 1 in 4 times).  So to increase chances of success I just got in the habit of exporting PSD files from Camera Raw, then running Photomerge on those PSD files.  That worked well enough and wasn't much trouble.
But I consciously stopped doing this workaround with Photoshop CS6 during the beta, then with the release, and I'm happy to say that every one - every single one - of my panos made directly from raw files with Camera Raw 7 has been successful.
Whomever fixed it, however you fixed it - you DID fix it.  Thank you!

To see if the drive tray will come out, try starting up the iMac with the mouse button held down.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2097
When i turn it on i get the grey screen with the flashing "finder" icon and a question mark. It appears that this confirms the bad hard drive.
Actually, that just means the Mac cannot find a system to boot from; the hard drive may be fine. It just does not have any OS installed on it.
would i then be able to use the reinstall discs from my powerbook to put os x 10.4 on the imac?
If you are getting Leopard for the PowerBook, there is no legal reason you cannot use its Tiger license on the iMac. Actually doing so might be somewhat tricky, since the disc from the PowerBook probably will not boot the iMac.
You should be able to do it using FireWire Target Disk Mode.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
Start up the iMac as described. Using a FireWire cable, connect it to the PowerBook. If the iMac's hard drive is working, it should appear on the PowerBook's Desktop as an external FireWire drive. If it does not appear, run Disk Utility and see if it needs to be mounted or formatted.
Note: For the rest of this to work, the PowerBook must be PowerPC. All "PowerBooks" are PowerPC, but if you were calling an Intel MacBook a "PowerBook," this will not work.
If the iMac's hard drive does appear, it is probably OK. You should run Disk Utility and do a +Repair Disk+ on the iMac's hard drive. Or you may just want to use the Erase tab to reformat the hard drive.
At this point, you can just restart your PowerBook from its Tiger installation disc. Use the PowerBook to run Installer. Be sure to Target the iMac's hard drive (not the PowerBook's internal drive) for the installation. Once installation is complete, let the PowerBook restart from the installation it just performed. Go through the setup screens, then shut down. Disconnect the two Macs and restart the iMac normally. It should start up using the Tiger installation performed by the PowerBook.

    Hi Experts,
Could u please recommend the best channel partners for asset management in india........

    Hi David
The account assignment you are mentioning does not belongs to MM/ Procurement.
Its the account assignment happens with Asset accounting.
In Asset master(AS03) general data tab there is a field account determination.
The mapping as to be done for that entry.
Please try with Transaction AO90 for account determination and post it.

  • What is the best practice for running a long report/query against an active database?

We are using SQL Server 2012 EE but currently do not have the option to run queries on a R/O mirror though that is my long term goal. I am concerned I may still run into the below issue in that scenario as well since the mirror would also be updating data I
    am querying.
I have a view that joins across several tables from two databases and is used by an invoicing program on existing data. Three of these tables are also actively updated by ongoing transactions. Running a report that used this view did not use to be a problem
but now our database is getting larger and we have run into some timeout problems for the live transactions coming in.
First the report query was timing out so I set command timeout to 0 and reran the query which pegged all 4 CPUs 100% for 90 minutes and so I finally killed it. Strangely there were no problems with active transactions during that time so I'm wondering if the
query was really running doing anything useful or somehow spinning and waiting. I reviewed the view and found a field I was joining on that was not indexed so created an index on that field, reran the report, which then finished in three minutes and all the
CPUs were busy but not at all pegged out. Same data queried both times. I figured problem solved. Of course later, my boss ran a similar invoice report, with the same amount of data, and our live transactions started timing out 100% while his query was running.
I did not get a chance to see the CPU usage during that time.
I looked at the execution plan of the underlying view and added the suggested index but that did not help. When I run the just the view at SQL Server it does not seem to cause any problems and finished in a couple seconds. Perhaps something else going on in
the reporting tool using the view.
My main question is - Given I have to use the live and active database, what is the proper way to run a long R/O query/report so that active transactions can still continue to update
tables that I am querying? sp_who2 did show transactions being blocked so I guess a long query accessing the tables blocks live transactions accessing those same tables, but certainly I'm not the only one doing this. I
am considering adding "with (nolock)" but am hoping there is a better standard practice as that clause can return dirty data and I understand why. Thx, Dave
    Thanks, Dave
    Dave

    Hello
You can change the DB isolation level to Read uncommitted
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms378149(v=sql.110).aspx
    or use WITH (NOLOCK)
I do use NOLOCK option for the dirty reads to avoid locks on the tables

  • Long standing bug in deployJava.js has not been fixed

I thin it's outrageous that the bug reported here deployJava.js and HTTPS Problem has not been fixed. I can only assume that Oracle has abandoned Java.

You'd be surprised to know that some Java API (including Java2D & Swing) bugs & RFEs I have submitted 12 years ago have still not been fixed.
I doubt it's Oracle's fault, as much as it was Sun's, probably a generic lack of people and resources to allocate to fixing small bugs coupled with a bad prioritization system which does not automatically increase the weight of a low-priority bug after it has spend some times/months/years in the bug-db.
On the other hand, I have always wondered what do all these people at Java/Sun/Oracle do all day long (was especially true of the JavaFX team over 2009/2010 and now I am starting to do the same about the JWS devellopment/support team considering the huge amount of things non-working correctly in this technology).

  • How big is the Adobe team for developing the iphone packager?

How many active full time developers are working on the iPhone packager at Adobe currently? I'm a bit curious since it would help me get a realistic idea how long it will take for new versions of the packager might come out. This is not to be taken as criticism (I realize the product is still in beta).

    Steve,
I printed out the table of contents and the sample chapter using 100%. The print is too small for me to read. The first page looks great - comfortable to read, but this is 14.00 X 10.00 iinches. The next pages came out of the printer at 7.00 X 10.00 inches. I'd need a magnifying glass for this. Too bad. I know I'd learn a great deal from your book.
Last month I got Photoshop Elements 11 for Dummies. The print size is perfect even under the graphics. And with this book there is none of that gratuitous humor that you often see in the Dummies books.
I should  probably start a separate thread for this but perhaps you could give me a short answer. If you do a video that requiers a teleprompter, what kind do you use? I'm going to make three minutes videos for my websites and perhaps for Facebook in both English and Spanish. Even though my clips will be 250 words or less, it's hard for me to deliver the Spanish from memory. But I hate to pay over $600 for a teleprompter. Do you have any suggestions for a penny-pincher?

  • What is the best process for adding a long text scroll into a video?

I have an hour video and need to insert a narrated poem that will either scroll or have lines fade in / out. What is the best process to create that poem? Do I use Motion? Live Type? compose it directly in FCP? I'll have either a still image or a looping video for the background. Once I know the best starting point, then I'll refine my questions. The poem is about 4 minutes narrated. Appreciate any help to get me started.

In the effects window try "Scrolling Text". Set it to be the length you need it (duration) and paste in your text and render and see how you like it. I think scrolling text has a nice little fade at the top and bottom too.
Or, you can make the text an image in something like Photoshop and keyframe it to slowly move in FCP for the duration of the video.
