Kwin compositing + mplayer VDPAU crash
Hello everyone, I have a very specific problem with KDE and mplayer video playback.
If I'm using vdpau as video output in mplayer and I switch to fullscreen mplayer will hang if anything is drawn on top of the video output. It happens if I show the control bar in smplayer or if I open yakuake or if I receive a skype notification.
There are three things that can prevent the crash:
- Using xv instead of vpdau (but 1080p playback becomes a pain)
- Disable "unredirect fullscreen windows" in kwin (but it kills the performances of games)
- Disable compositing before switching to fullscreen (that's what I'm currently doing, but it's annoying)
Is there a way to tell kwin to NOT unredirect only mplayer windows? Or any way to set up a specific rule to avoid the crashing?
Thanks a lot!
Mmmh... maybe you can deactivate compositing only for the mplayer window. I think you can do this by right click on the mplayer window frame -> advanced -> specific settings for this program -> go to the tab on the right (don't know whats the name in english, here in german the name is "Erscheinungsbild und Korrekturen", so maybe appearance and adjustments. And there is an option to block compositing. Maybe this helps.
Best regards!

I'm currently running Xorg without config.

Anyone have some advices on how to solve it, or maybe just some pointers where the problem could lie? I'm starting to run out of ideas.
EDIT: Sorry if there is already another identical thread posted somwhere, i couldn't find it.

Playing .mkv with mplayer-vdpau does not work
Hi,
My System is a Atom 330 with an Nvidia ION. The Atom is running at 2 GHz.
I installed the mplayer-vdpau-svn from aur. With this i tried to play a .mkv file.
Without the vdpau parameters the Movie is running, but too slow. When i use the
parameters -vc ffh264vdpau -vo vdpau the mplayer sad that "vo: couldn't open the X11 display ()!"
After setting DISPLAY to :0.0 the output was "vo: couldn't open the X11 display (:0.0)!"
Can somebody help me, please?!
Im not Realy an X user but in this case i think i need it, right?

Mplayer-vdpau-nogui (AUR) and SMPlayer upgrade
I have installed mpalyer-vdpau-nogui from AUR and SMPlayer from [extra], but now pacman can't upgrade the new version of SMPlayer (0.6.9) in [extra] because it depends on mplayer, and it asks me for removing mplayer-vdpau-nogui. Is it safe to perform the system update, removing mplayer (pacman -Rd mplayer) and installing mplayer-vdpau-nogui from AUR again (if possible)?
Thanks in advance.sosonok wrote:

How to Recover a running composites after system crash?
The Weblogic server has unexpected restart while some long-time composites were running.
After Weblogic started again, those composites had state "Running". But nothing changes. They never neither finish neither fault.
Is there a something necessary to configure in weblogic, or composites to successfully continue all running composites after system start-up after a crash?Hi there,
please have a look at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15586_01/integration.1111/e10226/bp_mang.htm#BABCEIBC.
In section "13.4 Performing BPEL Process Service Engine Message Recovery" you can read how a manual recovery of undelivered invoke or callback messages due to a transaction rollback in the process instance can be performed. Please have a look an let me know if it helpful for you.

When I click the new Composition Lightbox Muse crashes
-When I click the newly added (empty) composition box to work with it Muse crashes. I have 9 lightboxes and the newly created 10th composition is the one which causes the crash. All the others behave normally. The others have roll over images and text and on click they have vimeo videos, images and text in the lightbox display.
Currently I can't even click on the new composition to delete it without Muse crashing.
I have the current 7.3.5 build and I am running on macbook pro 10.9.2
Regards,
Jimmy

Are you using a Mac produced in 2006-2009? What version of Adobe AIR do you have installed. (The AIR version is available in the About Adobe Muse dialog.) -
KWin compositing only in XRender mode / unable to use OpenGL mode.
Hi,
somehow I am unable to activate kwin4 compositing in OpenGL mode. If I try to I get the following message:
"Failed to activate desktop effects using the given configuration options. Settings will be reverted to their previous values.
Check your X configuration. You may also consider changing advanced options, especially changing the compositing type."

Ok, I weren't able to find a specific compiz log, so I started it via console the output was:
[14:03:43][blq@myhost ~]$ fusion-icon
* Detected Session: kde
* Searching for installed applications...
* NVIDIA on Xorg detected, exporting: __GL_YIELD=NOTHING
* Using the GTK Interface

fuse: failed to access mountpoint compiz: No such file or directory
compiz (cube) - Warn: Failed to load slide: freedesktop
Somehow I weren't able to get any window-decorations to work. (Emerald)

I allready tried that. I only added what was absolutely necessary to get the monitors working .... same problem........
I've read the NVidia wiki several times and very carefully. I went through every single step.. there is nothing more available that could solve my problem.
Thankyou very much for the responses!

Today I noticed something strange. The SMPlayer crashed when I hit the stop button. I had to force it to close. Tried different videos but the same was happening.
Tried different frontends using MPlayer, but all do the same. smplayer-qt5-svn, umplayer, umplayer-svn, even gnome-mplayer. The problem doesn't happen if I open them from terminal.
I found this in both of the SMPlayers logs:

There was no error message in the UMPlayer's log and no log for the MPlayer.
The same is happening with mplayer-vaapi, but with that not even the playback is working.
I wasn't able to build mplayer-svn, mplayer-mt-lite-git or any other version from AUR.
Tried mpv though, but non of the frontends work with it, and MPlayer2 seems only to work with GNOME-MPlayer but it has green flashes.
I used the most recent available versions in the official repos and in AUR from all of the packages, and my system is fully up to date.
No problem with other players, VLC for example works fine (except it has other problems with the audio playback and doesn't always handle UTF-8 subtitles properly, so it's not very useful compared to SMPlayer).
Any ideas?

[Solved] opengl dependency for kwin composite

Featured news composition widget causing crash?
It seems there is a problem with the featured news widget. Actually several... First, you are unable to replace the photos by clicking on a folder icon at the top like you can do with slideshows. To get around this, I just deleted the stock images and filled the frame with a new image, so that’s not too big a problem, it just seems you should be able to somehow change the existing picture rather than deleting and adding a whole new image.
The next issue I encountered is that I can’t edit the bars to the left together. I am having to go to each individual “bar” and change all the states. Also, when I clicked the plus button to add new “bars” it would add only blank bars and a blank frame to the right, so I would have to copy the text box from the bars above and paste them to the new bars, plus also copy the stock image and text from one of the first three boxes to the right and paste that as well to each new box. It seems that when you click the plus button it should fill in the same contents as the “bar” above it, right?
Then, the major issue: once I changed all the states and had it all set up, I tried to save the site and it gave me an error message and didn't save any of the changes I had just made. I know a lot of other people have had this happen. Luckily this is pretty much the only change I made to the site since the last time I saved it, so it makes me think that somehow the widget is the problem and reason for the crash.Hi Zak,
Many thanks for your 'correct' and prompt answer. I tried to make it CORRECT on the Forum, but after clicking the link, did not know where to go since this is my first time using this forum.
As it turned out, I was indeed using the font (Georgia) but did not realize that this particular font can also be used as a System font as well. So I chose the wrong Georgia font which was the System font. I corrected this issue throughout and made doubly sure that I used the Web Font Georgia.
Many thanks again for your help and assistance.

Mplayer plugin crashes swiftfox
After latest update of mplayer I have problem using the mplayer plugin in in swiftox. For no apparent reason, when it tries to play online content, swiftfox closes. When I try to play it again 2 out of 10 times it plays but it is very annoying.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is there any fix?the people in http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=31218 apparently noticed it

[solved] can't find/build mplayer with vdpau codec support
I want to install an mplayer that will handle vdpau.
I installed the standard mplayer version but that didn't have it.
Following some advice in another thread I rebuilt the standard mplayer with yaourt.
When I do 'mplayer -vo help' it shows a vdpau driver on the list. But when I do 'mplayer -vc help' there are no vdpau codecs listed.
I tried the same thing with mplayer-svn but get the same results.
I even tried compiling mplayer manually but get the same results.
What am I doing wrong?
TIA, gabu
(I have just moved to Archlinux64 after 3 years with Gentoo, so my Gentoo experience might be getting in the way)

I manually compiled using the svn source that I currently use on my Gentoo system and get the same odd results, whereas on Gentoo it compiles as you expect. This would seem to indicate that there is something about the Arch environment which is causing the problem rather than purely the source code.
I tried installing mplayer-vdpau-nogui but have the same problem there. -
"Replace with After Effects composition" in PP CS6 causes crash in AE CS6
Hello,
When I right click on a movie-file in a Premiere Pro seqence and choose "Replace with After Effects composition" AF starts, it asks me what I want the file name to be, "save" this and go on. I can see the interface for a short while, then it crashes and closes. In PP I get the error "The importer reported a generic error"
I have the latest versions of both PP and AE, downloaded from Creative Cloud.
What can I do to solve this?
By the way - when clicking on an audio track, "Edit in Audition" is greyed out... Problems with Dynamic link?
Regards,
Håkan
WIN7, 16 GB RAM Intel Core i7 920 @ 2,67GHzFuzzy,
I have now tried what you told me (and some more), without any success;
- Cleared all the files in the named folders
- reinstalled After Effects
- deactivated and reactivated the suite
Every time I try to:
- right click a video file in PP and choose "replace with...."
- copies a video file and pastes into AE...
AE crashes.
When I copy into AE it works until I drag the clip to "New composition", then it crashes.
Hopefully you, or anyone else, have more suggestions. I really need some rain on this clip...:)
UPDATE:
I have now tested with other footage, An MPEG-clip from my Sony (.m2ts) - this works well, both when I copy and paste, and when I use the "Replace..." within PP. The clip can be played in timeline without any problems.
Using the "Replace..." also works well "back in" PP - the effects are there when switching to PP.
However - when I add an XDCAM-HD 422 Movie (.MXF) file to this project it is ok, I can scratch (is that the correct english for using the mouse to "browse" the file in timeline?) this file in a comp, but as soon as I press "spacebar" to make it play "by itself", AE crashes.
Regards,
Håkan -
Mplayer crashes on certain files
my mplayer is crashing on certain files,
and on my observations it seems to be *.mkv files only.
MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: init_audio_codec
with -nosound:
MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: video_read_frame
even though i put mplayer's verbose message open, the only error i could find is the above.
it seems mplayer managed to crash itself in different modules, but i have no idea why.
plz help.

- MPlayer crashed by bad usage of CPU/FPU/RAM.
Recompile MPlayer with --enable-debug and make a 'gdb' backtrace and
disassembly. Details in DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports_what.html#bugreports_crash.
- MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen.
It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your
gcc version. If you think it's MPlayer's fault, please read
DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. We can't and
won't help unless you provide this information when reporting a possible bug.
I'm using smplayer 0.6.7-1, mplayer 29188-2 (from testing)

Radeon HD 3870 + opensource ati drivers + compositing = possible?
Xorg update 1.7.1 breaks AMD's proprietary catalyst drivers. I would like to be able to use the open source drivers and still be able to enable Kwin compositing. Does anyone know if this is possible? Alternatively, does anyone know if there is a fix to get the proprietary drivers working in 1.7.1? Thanks.
Yes. Use this guide http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=79509&p=1
I have a ATI 3850 and with this guide I have compositing, KMS and can play nequiz (ok, sometimes nexquiz crashes). With KMS enabled i have some artifacts on KDE4.
