L can't open Adobe Acrobat.

When I try to open Adobe Acrobat by clicking on a shortcut or by opening a pdf, nothing happens. The process shows up for a second and then dissappears. At some point in the past I received an error message along the lines of "Adobe cannot connect to a *** server" I don't remember exactly what kind of server, and I cannot seem to get that error message. I've tried to re-install it before, it worked for a while and now I'm getting this problem again.
I'm getting a similar problem in Adobe Digital Editions. I cannot authorize my account, it says I am not connected to the internet.

I cannot open Adobe Acrobat at all. Adobe reader is fine. The message did say something about not connecting to a dde server.
I am not on a workstation. I am on a regular laptop running Windows 7 Home x64.
I would also like a fix for the Digital Editions Authorization thing.

  • Can't open adobe acrobat pro 9.

same error as others have written about without solution for a few years. Error message says it was installed as part of suite, I need to activate another program in the suite first. I've done this several times to no avail. Any help? Opens for about 5 seconds then error message appears and closes program.

No product should force security on its users without providing them any practical way to override. Web browsers, email clients, and operating systems warn you of potentially dangerous files and then let the client make the choice. What if it's a zip file from a trusted source full of harmless text documents? Too bad - because Acrobat says so. Acrobat makes no attempt to examine the zip file to see if perhaps its contents are dangerous - it just sweepingly decides zips are far too dangerous to let the user have any voice in the matter. I fundamentally disagree.
Notice that I've attached a zip file to this post. Adobe allows zips on their forums but not in their PDF documents. Adobe: If you've deemed zip files safe enough to be hosted and delivered in your own forums, why have you decided they have no place in a PDF?
I think Adobe got this one wrong - and I cast a vote that they loosen the noose on zip files on a future release. I'd like to hear other users' thoughts on this issue. Adobe is good at listening to their users - so tell them what you think on this issue - I've posted this article as a feature request here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/520515 - reply to it that thread and share your viewpoint.

  • Hard drive died. Wrote back-up image to new drive, but can't open Adobe. Help, please.

I own Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional.  This software can be installed on two computers.
The hard drive in one of my two computers died.  Fortunately, I've been doing full-image back-ups (which include the operating system) to an external hard drive.  I copied the most recent image (a few hours old) onto the new hard drive.
I can't open Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional from new hard drive.  It's telling me that I already have installed it twice and that I'm requesting a third installation which isn't permitted.
How do I get a usable copy Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional on the new hard drive?
Do I perform a Windows Control Panel "Delete" on the program and re-install it from scratch?
    Or, is there another procedure?
    OR, am I SOL?
    Thank you,
    Julie

You don't mention the backup software you use, but it would SEEM that it is missing the "hidden" registration files on your hard drive
I use multiple boot drives, via drive swap hardware, making and restoring backups each time I test new software... really easy to go back to "before install" by swapping a drive or restoring a backup... described at http://www.pacifier.com/~jtsmith/ADOBE.HTM
The backup software I use is at http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-linux.htm - the program includes a "makedisk" routine to make a bootable CD, so the software runs on Linux, completely outside Windoze, and goes direct to the hardware controller, not through the Windoze drivers
This creates a COMPLETE image to an external USB hard drive, and the restore works with all registration information intact

  • When I open Adobe Acrobat, the menu onthe left is always set to 'Layers'.  I have tried to change it to 'Pages' without any luck.  Can anyone suggest a fix?

When I open Adobe Acrobat X, the menu on the left is always set to 'Layers'.  How can I change it to always be set to 'Pages'?

Most of the time you see something like that. The image in question has a color profile other then sRGB. Some image viewers/displayers are color managed and others are not.  So the image do not look the same in all of the applications you use. So colors seem to change.
Try converting it to sRGB color and see if then looks the same all around. Also I think PC and Mac displays are set to different gamma something like 1.8 and 2.2
Though I'm colorblind I even see color variations.

I can not open adobe files that end in .doc. I purchased the 19.99 to convert doc to pdf and I still cant open. I get an error reading.

    Hi,
Which Adobe Service did you purchased?
If you have purchased CreatePDF please visit: https://createpdf.acrobat.com/SignIn.html
Sign in with your Adobe ID and password, and then convert your word doc into PDF.
Please let me know if that works.
If you have Adobe Reader, you cannot convert .doc file to .PDF by drag and drop.

  • Since Lion doesn't support Power PC... how do I open Adobe acrobat reader?

I'm trying to open Adobe Acrobat Reader to download something from the internet, and discovered for the first time that I can't because Power PC is no longer supported by Apple..(whatever that is????)  I don't know what to do.  Can someone help.  Thank you sgarbo

power pc is an old cpu type made by ibm that apple used to put in their rather old macs
if you downloaded an acrobat reader which require power pc then you downloaded the wrong! and possible dangerous version of acrobat reader download the correct one if you must from adobes site
but osx support displaying pdf files without you installing that program
which along with Java are the biggests caused of insucrity in private computers there are apple and windows alike

  • How can I install Adobe Acrobat without installing the browser extensions?

    Hello All,
I am a computer Technician at a high school and we have very strict browser requirements for different services. We need to use Adobe Acrobat to convert PDF's, and other tasks, and we need to use Chrome to open Adobe Reader files. The issue is that I want my 3 browsers (Chrome, IE, Firefox) to open PDF files using Adobe Reader XI. All my plugin settings are correct to use Adobe Reader to open PDF's, but it either downloads a PDF to the computer, or opens up in the browsers default reader (Chrome does this), or opens up to a blank page with a blank error message. I went into the programs Internet settings for Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat and it's telling me the browser opens them up using Adobe Acrobat (With no option to change the setting). The problem is only solved when I uninstall Adobe Acrobat. Then I am able to open PDF's in Adobe Reader just like I want (but this gets rids of Acrobat). This leads me to believe that when I install Adobe Acrobat, there is a registry key or something that is telling the computer to open PDF's in browsers using Acrobat. My initial question is this: How can I install adobe Acrobat without linking it to the browser. I JUST want Adobe Acrobat as a program installed on the computer.
    Additional Info:
    - I build a computer image and use that image on several computers. This issue persists with all of the computers I installed the image on.
    - I am using Adobe Reader 11 (Now DC, but I am willing to use either) and Adobe Acrobat Pro CS3 (I think it's version 9?)
    Thanks for the help.
    - Charlie

  • Can't open Adobe Reader XI

I am unable to open Adobe Reader XI on my new PC with Windows 8. Everytime I open a file, it just hangs and says (Not Responding) and I am forced to close the file. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled the program, but the problem persists. When I open the folder, if I choose preview, the file shows up fully, but would not open the file in a proper way. It also works in Adobe Reader when I open a file on the internet that is saved in pdf format by the provider (like a company's annual report) and am able to switch to the Reader. The only time it fails to respond is when I try to open a file directly, either by doble-clicking on the file or by File-Open comman in Adobe.

    Some things to try...
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html

  • I have Adobe Design CS6, suddenly a simple PDF will not open. Noting happens when I doubleclick either the file or try to open Adobe Acrobat X Pro

I have Adobe Design CS6, suddenly a simple PDF will not open. Noting happens when I doubleclick either the file or try to open Adobe Acrobat X Pro ?

Hi Jenny, I just had to do that, for the 3rd time. It is a pity though when one pays for such expensive software that this happens, specifically when the only Adobe help is to tell you to post your problem on a forum and hope someone can help you. Not good enough and not what I expected when I bought it. I am so disappointed in Adobe.
