L10: Deleting folders - should be easy or is it?

Hi ive just brought a new satalite L10 and im having a problem with it. I cannot do the simplest thing - when i create a new folder on my desktop or document folder and try to rename it or delete it - it wont work and the whole laptop freezes!!! Considering its brand new this should not be a problem!!!! Any suggestions????

Hi
Its a strange issue. I have never heard that after deleting a folder the notebook freezes.
Did you try to recover the OS?
I heard about an issue, after opening an html document the notebook went down. In this case the mainboard had a fault.
Well. At first you can try to recover you system if it doesnt work I propose to contact the service partner.

  • Bridge Deleting Folders on Our Server

    Twice now here at work,
2 different people were trying to make a shortcut in their 'favorites' panel in Bridge,
and the folder itself has disappeared COMPLETELY...
luckily our server is backed up nightly,
so not much was lost (except that morning's work), but still, how is this happening?
    In the first instance,
the person was dragging the folder from a 'finder' window into 'favorites' and it just disappeared,
the second instance was being done directly in Bridge and the same thing happened...
This is more than a little scary, and have never had this problem before and now it's happened twice in a month...
We're all on iMacs (10.6 and up) and using CS 5....
    H E L P!
    Thanks

Bridge seems to literally be deleting the folder from our server somehow when trying to make a shortcut in the favorites panel...
First of all, Bridge is not designed to work over a network configuration, nor does Adobe support this use. Creating a favorite of a folder is nothing else then creating an alias for this folder so their should be no reason to delete it at all.
But all things that you change in Bridge are user related and the info is stored somewhere in the user library (not everything is easy to find but if you preview a file the cache for it builds in the Cache folder which is by default in the user library in the user account itself. If you work on other accounts over a network their might get confusion of which info to store where. I find it hard to believe Bridge deletes folders completely by creating an alias but I also have no experience with network environment.
So if you would like to use a Digital Asset Management and you want to use Bridge for it you should threat it with great care and much discipline for all users.
Check this blog, this guy did achieve a network based environment.
But to be honest, you better look for a dedicated network DAM application that is designed for this task. And if you need the powers of Bridge you best do so in user based situations.

  • In my Thunderbird I have 2 inboxes and deleted folders, 1 set in local folders 1 set above. How do I get back to only having one inbox and one deleted folders.

I have one account in my Thunderbird mail. Some days ago I discovered I had two inboxes and two deleted folders. One set appears in the list at the lefthandside above local folders and the other set is under local folders. My outbox also appears under local folders.
I have deleted or moved all the mail entris in the inbox which appears under local folders.
How do I delete the superfluous inbox and deleted folders? How do I move the outbox so it appears above the local folders in the list? Many thanks for your help.

Surely as I only have one account, I should only have one inbox. How does my POP mail decide into which inbox to put my incoming mail? The two inbox icons have the downward pointing arrow. One inbox is the first entry in the list (below my email address) and the second is the first entry below local folders.

  • It should be easier to change the default copyright company in Application Builder

It should be easier to change the default copyright company in Application Builder.
I got the following from NI support to change the name of the company that is copyrighting the software.
    1. To show the desired hidden folder, you must select Tools>> Folder Options >> View >> Under 'Files and Folders'>> 'Hidden files and folders' >> check the 'Show hidden files, folders, or drives' >> Select 'ok'
    2. Navigate to C:\ProgramData
    3. Open ProgramData >> National Instruments >> LVProductDLLInfo >> 12.0.0 >>LabVIEW_ADE_120000.ini   ***Please note that the folder 12.0.0 may instead be 14.1.0 or another numeric value based on which version of LabVIEW you are using***
    4. Change the RegisteredOrganization and RegisteredOwner to the appropriate organization and owner respectively.
The fix NI support sent me was to change the name of the current software owner.
The company that owns the software is usually writing the program for another company that is paying to have it developed. If the software owner is not careful they may assign the copyright to their company or to the company that they developed software for last.   I am sure that the company that had software developed will be surprised if their name is not listed as the legal copyright owner.
    Stan

I've found it now (sheepishly). It is a parameter defined in Home->Application Builder->Application 693->Application Attributes->Edit Definition. I thought it was using the database nls parameters, but it isnt. So I simply had to change the parameter value from $ to £.

  • Deleting folders in mass

Is there a way to delete folders in mass without sitting and clicking on the dialog box for each folder?

Mark, if you have a bunch of folders you want to remove from LR's Folder list (but not delete them - and I assume the folders are not empty), assuming this is an infrequent operation - you could go external to LR and COPY the folders to a temp location using your file browser, then delete the original folders. Next go into LR and click on one of the folders; that should remove it and all the others from LR's Folder list. Finally, go back to the external file browser and move the folders back to where you want them.
Like I said, you don't want to do this too frequently, it's a pain. BTW, this is on a Mac, so the Windows version may behave differently. In the end, unless you have MANY folders to remove from LR's list, it's probably just as fast to click each folder and choosing delete (this removes from LR, but does not delete), one folder after another.
(I did try MOVING the folders using a file browser to another drive, but in LR, it followed them to the new location. That's why I suggest COPYING the folders then deleting the originals.)

  • Winlogin is deleting folders and files on start-up

We have been using Crystal Reports Server X1 Release 2 since 2007.  Week ago folders started dissaperaing and found out that there was a conflict with McCaffe update that deleted business objects folder and Tomcat stopped working.  Now we are trying to restore VM from prior file deletion and everytime we boot that up winlogin seems to be applying settings and deleting folders again.  Help!!!

Not to insult ... this is presented as it is to be sure all facts are given ...
There are two levels to disk formatting:
    Disk-level
    Partition-level
Disk-level, which defines how "partitions" are organized.  There are two disk-level formats you need to be aware of for Mac:
MBR (Master Boot Record), which is used by Windows systems.  This is the one you most likely have on your existing disk.
    GUID is used by Mac.
Your MBR disk can be left at MBR, in my opinion.  It is likely at least 2 years old, and any backup disks you buy for Mac-backups should be new, in my opinion.
Within a disk, there are "partitions", with different formats:
Windows uses a method called NTFS.  It has in the past used FAT, FAT32, but both are replaced by NTFS for most systems now.
    Mac uses HFS+
Microsoft has a patent on NTFS and only grudgingly allows other computers to even read the disks.  Technically anyone could red it, but Microsoft may at anytime pull the plug and sue any "entity" or operating that tries to read it.
    My suggestion is this:
Buy new disks for backing up your new Mac system.  Make them self-powered, already formated for Mac.  Buy new snice backups need to be on reliable hardware.
Also buy new disks for keeping "files only" directories for your new "mac-world".
Use your old disk to move files off as needed, but it is now a "secondary" disk used to read old files.

  • How do you delete folders within collections in mini bridge?

How do you delete folders within collections in mini bridge?

his chapter on Mini Bridge where he talks about organizing your photos getting rid of some and making a folder or file sorry not certain of the terminology under Collections in mini bridge to acess your "keepers" perse.
Not familiar with this book but if Scott is talking about using mini bridge for sorting images he is way out of line. Mini Bridge (to my opinion next to useless since they screwed it up for CS6 but that is another discussion) should be seen as a shortcut to Bridge itself when working in Photoshop on complex tasks of image or album compilation and prevent you from switching back and forward between the two applications while working on a project.
Unfortunately some people thought that it might be useful to add more functions to it and now users start believing they don't need bridge itself for this.
Please use Bridge itself for sorting etc and also try to get hold of a copy of 'Real World Camera Raw' written by Bruce Fraser and Jeff Schewe. They have an edition for about all CS versions and this book will let you know how to really use the power of Bridge and Adobe Camera Raw

  • Recover deleted folders in Line Scheduling workbench

    Experts,
I accidentally deleted the seeded folders in Line Scheduling Workbench. (Flow Scheduling-> Line Scheduling - > Workbench) , in environment B (for example). Oracle Apps: 12.1.3
Now, I want to recover the deleted folders. From what I heard, there is no option to recover the deleted folders. I have another environment where the folders are present.
If anyone could point me to the path where folders are created, then I could copy and paste the files in the environment B.
Any help is appreciated. I searched Google and metalink, but could not find any relevant answer.

There are applications which claim to recover deleted files, though I suspect that they are not wonderfullly effective. There are also firms who do data recovery, though we are talking hundreds of dollars here. In either case you should not use your Mac: the more you use it the more you are likely to overwrite the files. I have to tell you that the chances of recovery are pretty slim: sorry.

  • S-1-1-0 Error when trying to delete folders on an NCP Server

    Hello:
There are a couple of TIDS that point to this issue.
The TID that references Windows 7 says "reported to Engineering"
    Problem:
On trying to delete folders on an NCP Server (does not matter if you are admin or any other user) from a WIn 7 Client you get an error message about needing permission from S-1-1-0 in order to make changes to this folder.
Seems to have been an issue with both XP and WIn 7 at one time but may have been resolved in XP.
S-1-1-0 is the MS SID associated with the group Everyone which prior to XPSP2 included "anonymous" users.
I am assuming that Win 7 follows the behaviour of post XP SP2 in not recognizing "anonymous" users as being members of Everyone thus the error message.
Does anyone have the correct technical explanation for this problem. ?
Renaming the folders allows you to delete them which makes me suspect that renaming alters a SID somewhere.

In our case we are using Client 2 SP2, so it looks like the "bugcat" came back.
In fiddlying with it we have found that renaming a folder and all its sub folders that you may want to delete allows you to do so.

There was a long standing problem with the Novell Client for Windows 7
that wouldn't allow you to delete files which were read-only. An
example would be some of the files located in a Windows roaming profile
stored in a user's home directly on an OES2 server. The XP client
would pop up a message asking if you wanted to do this, whereas on
Windows 7 you could get the error about needing permission. Deleting
from a command prompt worked ok.
Fixes have gone into the latest Novell Client which should address
this. Please make sure you are using Client 2 SP2.
    We're your Novell--again. re: focus

  • Deleted folders still visible in thunderbird

I have deleted/rearranged some folders in my Microsoft outlook exchange account, and it is not updating in my Thunderbird. It did update some of the new folders that I created, but deleted folders are still there. When I try to delete them, it gives me an error message. Also, even the ones deleted without any error will show up again whenever I start Thunderbird again. I have deleted an outlook account and re-registered it, but the list of folders are still there. Should I try to completely uninstall Thunderbird? I wasn't sure if this will help either when reloading my account didn't help.

Sounds like you have an IMAP mail account.
Thunderbird remembers what you have subscribed to see.
If you want to delete a folder:
    In Thunderbird,
Do you have emails in that folder you need to save?
If yes, make sure you have copied or moved emails in Local Folders
then unsubscribed from seeing the folder.
    In webmail account:
    Delete the folder.
So, if you have already deleted the folder off the server, have you unsubscribed from seeing it ?

  • Can't delete folders in Library mode

I cannot delete folders. I have selected a folder in Library mode but I can find not way to delete it. It seems that I can remove it from the catalog but not delete the folder and the files. Is there a way delete a folder and all the files contained in it?

Yes, but you have to delete images in the folder first. You can delete files within Lr. When the folder is empty Lr will allow deletion of the folder.
I have no idea why Lr requires you do it this way. I suppose it is a safety feature. Mass deletes of folders and their contents could be dangerous.

  • This should be easy! How can I change the background colour of my fields?

Apologies if this has already been posted but nothing has come up via Google nor the Forum search.
I'm sure this should be easy but it's really doing my head in!
I have a number of textboxes, dropdown lists, etc within my form - I have set Custom backgrounds on each which are visible within Design View. However, in Preview PDF all the fields have a default blue colour and only change to my Custom backgrounds when you enter the field.
Is there a way of removing the default colouring of fields so that it's the same as my Custom backgrounds? My Custom backgrounds are 'linear to bottom' so I don't want to just set border.fill.color to one colour.
    Thanks for any help,

    Hi,
If you include this Javascript in the docReady event of the root node (default "form1").
    app.runtimeHighlight = false;
This will turn off the field highlight. It doesn't prevent the user from turning back on the highlight, but it will mean that your form opens with the highlight off.
    Hope that helps,
    Niall

  • How do I delete folders listed in Time Machine that are no longer good?

I AM TRYING TO DELETE FOLDERS ON MY TIME MACHINE THAT I NO LONGER NEED:

    DIGI FILES_PE
    DIGI FILES-PE-ACDS
When I checked the Help INstructions it tell me to Highlight the file and click the Actions menu (Gear icon) from the toolbar.
Select “Delete all backups of <this file>”.
BUT...when I do that the Gear icon only shows "Move to Trash" Not “Delete all backups of <this file>”.
So when I try to move the old folders to the trash it tells me that the operation cannot be done?

Every time I right click on an image and select Download image Firefox crashes . I have reinstalled; uninstalled and deleted folders and then reinstalled; added no plugins; checked I can DL the same images in IE-works good.I use Win7 pro and it works in other profiles in Windows 7. I created a new profile in Windows and that worked for about 2 months and now that has gone the same way as my admin profile has done. I deleted the sqlite download file-still same prob..Please help. I use Firefox 13.0.1

    That sounds very frustrating.
By the way, does it say "Download image" or "Save Image As"? Just checking whether you have an add-on downloader in the mix that might be relevant. If you do have an add-on, try using the built-in command.
Do you also crash if you save from here:
right-click page > View Page Info > Media tab > (select image) > Save As
I assume you have seen this article and tried these things: [[What to do if you can't download or save files]].
Have you tried the new Reset feature in Firefox 13? This duplicates certain key data from your active settings folder into a new one, bypassing some add-ons and custom settings. Your plugins will still be active, but could be disabled manually if you like.
More information in this article: [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]].
If the new settings folder has the same problem, you can switch back if you like using Firefox's Profile Manager.
    Does it make any difference?

  • Fat32 cf card - can't delete folders/files

I have a fat32 formatted compact flash card I am using in my vehicle for mp3 playback.
When I delete folders off of this through Finder, Finder shows as if they were deleted, but when you read the card on a Windows machine, or in my vehicle, the folder was not really deleted and remains.
I have found that it seems like you can only WRITE to the compact flash. You can't erase.
I had to reformat the entire card to fat32 and then rewrite everything just to change the contents of it.
Is there a workaround to this?

I deleted the folder by Command + Delete (trashing them?).
I believe I then just pulled the CF card out of the attached reader this particular time, without ejecting it.
I then noticed this same folder was still on the card when I put it in my vehicle.
From what I am reading, it seems that trashing the file leaves a .Trash folder on the CF card. I did not see this, I saw the full folder name, as if it had not ever been touched.
I will test tonight if emptying the trash truly removes the folder.
