L305-S5919 Locks Up

I've had my Toshiba L305-S5919 for about 5 months.
When I haven't done something on the computer within about 10-20 minutes, the computer locks up. The keyboard won't respond, so it won't accept alt-ctrl-del. At that point, I have to remove both power sources (plug in and battery) in order to reboot the computer. I can't even get it to respond by using the power button.
Even when I have a screensaver on or when I'm watching an internet video or listening to music, I still must do something with the computer myself (even if it's just minimizing or maximizing a program) in order to avoid this. I try to do it about every 10 minutes, but sometimes I forget. I then have to reboot everything.
Is there a fix for this? Thanks!

    Hello southernbelle23,
I'm so sorry to hear that you're having issues with your phone turning itself off! That must be incredibly inconvenient, especially when you really need to stay connected to something important. When did this begin? Do you have a Blackberry Z10? Have you attempted any troubleshooting yet with your device?

Your model belongs to part-number family PSLB8U, which corresponds to European-models' part-number family PSLB8E.
Go to the European download site and look up the Satellite L300 with Short Part No. PSLB8E.
When you filter for Windows XP, you'll find there are 35 drivers, utilities, and so forth listed.

  • L305-s5919 Motherboard Replacement

I have an L305-s5919 with a bad motherboard, part no. v000138360. I'm unable to locate a replacement part at a reasonable cost, although I found part no. v000138370, which looks like the same board. Does anyone know what laptop the v000138370 board came out of and what the differences between it and v000138360 are? Is it a difference in processor (Intel/AMD) or something else entirely?

  • Using restore disk on Satellite L305-S5919

Two years ago we bought our daughter a Toshiba Satellite L305-S5919 to use at college.  Near the end of her first year it overheated and she needed to have a new hard drive installed, which was done under warranty at Best Buy.
This spring she started getting an intermittent, high-pitched noise.  When the noise started, her computer would either freeze or slow way down.
We were told by the geek squad at Best Buy to remove a lot of the startup programs, which we did.  Still had the noise. I updated her anti-virus and ran it, installed all the updates that had been downloaded but never installed, ran disk cleanup, and ran disk defragmenter.
Then since it was still making the high-pitched noise I tried scandisk.
Scandisk showed the following message - I think it was on the 4th step:  "Windows replaced bad clusters in file 153340 of name \SYSTEM~1\{A45BA~1"
After that it wouldn't boot past the Toshiba splash screen.  I can use the F2 and F12 commands from that screen, but it I just let it go it says a "disk read error occurred press ctrl-alt-delete to restart" - which just does the same thing over and over and over.  One time it made a sound like breaking glass, other times the hard drive just grinds away.
So I went back to Best Buy and the geek squad said use the Restore disks that my daughter had bought last year when she had the hard drive replaced.
I am currently running disk 1 of the restore disks.  The geek squad said it could take 5 hours to complete - is that correct?  At first there was the word Microsoft with some bars running across the bottom of the screen.  Now that's gone away and I have the cursor arrow in the middle of a black screen.  The hard drive indicator is faintly flashing intermittently.  For a while it was making grinding noises, then squeaky sounds.  Now the only noise I hear is from the cooling mat underneath the laptop (don't want it to overheat again).
Should it be showing me any progress report on the screen?  Is it stuck?  Should I eject the restore disk and start over?  Should I take the laptop to the nearest bridge and throw it into the river?  Or am I just being impatient?
Assuming the restore works, is the hard drive likely to fail again?  Why can't hard drives last longer than a year?

I am wondering why you haven't recd any replies from the "Super Contibutors" here?
Almost identical problem here in my exact same Toshiba model.  PC should be covered by the Lemon Law, just like cars.  As far as I can tell, if a hard drive caves in within 2 years it's a lemon in the first place, pretending to be a PC.
Toshiba should make Recovery Media FREE if their models fail as fast as this one did for me  --and I and I guess hundreds of others who bought the lemon in dusguise.

  • Toshiba L305-S5919 Satellite Issue

I received the above computer as a prize in a contest in April 2009.  Ever since I got it, I've had problems connecting to wireless be it at home or at work.  I can be sitting right next to my husband when he's on his laptop and is connected but mine doesn't connect.  I tried connecting right to the router itself but even that didn't work.   More often than not I can't get on at all.  Our wireless router is a D-Link model DIR-615.  What else can I do regarding connectivity with this model.  Thanks.
    Solved!

Hi there and welcome! I would take it into your local Geek Squad and have them check it out. It may be as simple as a software update or they may have to submit it for service.

  • Toshiba Satellite L305-S5919

Good morning friends. I have this problem with my laptop, after logging-in to windows for about 5-15 minutes, my laptop suddenly goes blank. Sometimes the color is light blue or pure white. I tried to troubleshoot my laptop to know what is causing the problem so when I tried it in battery mode it works fine. however, when I started to plug the power adapter to charge my laptop the screen goes blank immediately or sometimes the laptop shuts down. another thing I did is to try too boot in safe mode with the power adapter on and everything works fine. my power adapter also have some bare wires coming out in DC side and it is already cut, I just bend the wires to keep it connected. I am asking for your kind help. Thanks you so much in advance. I believe that your solutions will be a great help for me.

I'd recommend replacing that adapter immediately.

  • Satellite L305-S5907 Locking up on me

Ok I have listed my laptops model in the subject, for some reason after I boot and everything loads as it should I have about 20 min to use the laptop because it freezes. Everything that is opened will say not responding, nothing will work but the mouse movement. CTRL-alt-del has no effect. The only thing I can do at this point is hold the power button till it shuts down, but were it shut down improperly there is nothing in the event log to direct me where the problem is. I have tried running defrag as well as letting the computer scan the hard disk for bad sectors. All my attempts have failed at resolving my problem.I have also tried system restore with no luck after waiting forever for it to complete it tells me that restore could not finish and non of my files have changed, the bad thing is I am about 2 months out of my warranty so Any help is much appreciated.

It didn't start doing this until I updated java.  I have tried to restore but it has no effect???
So you did a System Restore to before the Java update and that didn't fix it. If not, try that.
       What is System Restore?
Let's see what's in Event Viewer. Arrange to note the exact computer-clock time when the freeze occurs. Open Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc) and expand Windows Logs. Inspect the Application and System logs for events at that exact time.
Don't try to manually copy anything from there. Double-click an event of interest and click the Copy button on the right. That will put its details on your clipboard.
Paste that without editing into your reply - except we want only the information above the line Event Xml:.

Assuming you're using Adobe's Flash Player, there's a bug in it for Vista.
While the video is playing, right-click on it and click Settings. Uncheck the box for Enable hardware acceleration.

  • Error message when trying to use Toshiba Disc Creator

I recently updated Vista to Service Pack 2 from SP1 and now I'm getting an error message when I try to use Toshiba Disc Creator 2.0.1.3. "Unexpected error occurred. Error Code 32007C-26-00000001" It worked perfectly before.
This is the first time I've used it since updating so I think SP2 may be part of the problem but I'm not sure. I couldn't find any updates for TDC. My system is a Satellite L305-S5919 with Vista 32 bit.
Anyone have any idea what might be causing the error?
    Thanks

Have you tried to roll back OS to earlier time and check functionality again, just to be sure it has something to do with SP2 installation?
I dont know if anyone here can offer some solution but Im pretty pessimistic about that and dont think Toshiba will offer new version.
As far as I know Toshiba disc creator was always offered with recovery image only and not as downloadable application.

  • Re: Question re use of Toshiba Application Installer

    Hey all.
My model came with Toshiba Software Modem installed, but I've noticed in the Toshiba Application Installer there are a couple of other modem drivers that are a little newer. I installed one of them (Conexant) then uninstalled the Toshiba Software Modem and reboted. When it started, it reinstalled the Toshiba Software Modem by default.
So my question is, is it possible to install and use anything other than my original modem? I'm not even sure if it installed the Conexant. It looked like it did but it doesn't appear in the list of installed programs.
As I said, the Toshiba Software Modem was the original, the other two are Conexant Software Modem Driver and Motorola Modem Driver. I don't know why those other two are even in there if they can't be used with my system.
    L305-S5919; Vista 32 bit
    Thanks!

I read in an article about software modems (Winmodem) that said a newer driver can make a difference.
"Winmodems, unlike hardware modems, have complicated driver software. Driver upgrades can thus make a significant difference to Winmodem performance. If you use a Winmodem, check the manufacturer's Web site to see if you can get a later driver."
I have dial-up and I know it's not going to make a huge difference but I thought it wouldn't hurt to try something different, if possible. The three modem files that are available for my system are listed at the Toshiba website, but the same versions are also available in my Toshiba Application Installer.
I don't really understand software modems. I've got Toshiba Software Modem by Agere, but I don't really know if that's the modem or the driver or both. Do the Toshiba L models even have modem hardware? And I don't get why those other two drivers are in my Toshiba Application Installer and are listed at the website as compatible with my system if they're useless.
Maybe the Agere is the modem and the other two are drivers for it?
In C:\Program Files\Toshiba\TOSAPINS\COMPS1, there are text files that accompany each modem driver that say, "These drivers are required for your machine to be able to fully utilize the modem."

Actually Im not sure I can burn any Dvds at all! Im on a toshiba satelittle L305-s5919....and ive had it for quite a few years but ive never tried to burn anything before. Ive downloaded three diffrent programs and each program gives me basically-rthe same error that the Disc isnt compatible?! but im using the SAME dvds ( DVD-R ) that i use in my desktop and they work just fine on my desktop.... is it because this drive is a rw that i need a diffrent type of disc or something? or is my burning function just dead? UHG!!!!!!!!!! HELP!

I looked up your model.  Your DVD drive is supermulti drive, capable of many media types. The spec states that its DVD-R Maximum Speed Compatibility single layer is 8X.  Are you using optical media that is compatible?  Another type of problems people sometimes have is brand of media.  Some burner is picky about lower quality name brands such as Memorex.
I use ImageBurn free program that many in video forum seem like. It’s usually reliable.
