DVD-RAM disks must be formatted first.  Could that be the issue?

  • Power Mac G5 Dual 2.5 GHz running 10.5.8 cannot burn DVD+R

    Hello all-
I have a Power Mac G5 Dual 2.5 GHz running 10.5.8 and I cannot burn DVD+R. Does that make sense?
If I insert a DVD+R into the drive, it just spits it back out. I've tried several discs so it's not a faulty DVD.
    Help.
    Thank you.

I've tried several discs so it's not a faulty DVD
I trust that is several different brands, not several different discs from the same spindle/pack?
    Media varies.
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
If you haven't tried a different brand, try a Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.
You might also try burning in a new user account to rule out account software troubles.

  • Problem with iDVD - cannot burn DVD.

Problem with iDVD - cannot burn DVD.
Self has a MacBook Pro, which al new software.
My problem is, when my burn a slideshow, prop process ever before burning.
Box show: Multiflexing and burning: write Lead-in, then the process stops and ejects the disc.
I have burn a Movie test – no problems.
    Self use Verbatim DVD-R
Who can help - what should I do?

How did you create the slideshow and get it in iDVD?
As a general comment try following this workflow to separate the encoding and burning processes:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Cant open DVD ram discs

I have a 27 inch imac but it won't open my dvd ram disc, they have family videos on them and i am trying to save them to the imac, any help would be great thanks

Intervideo WinDVD is a movie player, not a movie format.
Could please look at the contents of the DVD and look at the file name of one of the tracks?
The suffix is the key. It will be "something.xyz"
That is the information you need to figure out if there is a way to play the movies on a Mac.

  • T61p cannot read DVD-RAM

I made some back ups last year on destop using DVD RAM discs. Now back on my T61p, the discs are not read. I tried a new DVD-RAM disc and find no way to have the drive recognize them.
Is this normal or is it possible that my drive is toast?

    Hello,
In this Lenovo support article, it states some types of UDF-formatted discs require that additional Drive Letter Access software be installed when running older versions of Microsoft Windows.  Could you tell us more about which version of Microsoft Windows was on the ThinkPad T61p when the DVD-RAM discs were created, what tool(s) were used to back up the files, and which version of Microsoft Windows is now installed on the T61p?
Also, were the discs readable at some point by the T61p, but ceased to be accessible?
Knowing the answer to these will be helpful in determining how to further troubleshoot the issue.

How do i get passed choose a menue,I have finished editing rendering unable to go to Burn directly to disc, Help would be appreciated, thank you Gordon

    Gordon
    Thanks for the additional information.
After you have your Timeline content ready for export with destination burn to disc, if you do not go to Tools Menu/Movie Menu to apply disc menus and you go instead directly to Publish+Share/Disc, you will get an automatic message for a Yes or No answer with regard to disc menus.
If you do not want menus, then just click No and you should next see the following
where you make your burn to choice.
The Yes or No message should be for Publish+Share/Disc and not Publish+Share/Computer.
You cannot export a file with menus to the hard drive.
If you went Timeline content, Tools Menu/Movie Menu, and applied a menu, and then decided that you do not want a menu, the go to the top of the Movie Menu customization area and click on Reset, followed by Done. And, then go to Publish+Share/Computer and your choice for the export to file saved to the computer hard drive.
Please review the above and let us know if you are OK with the above details.
    Thank you.

  • Using DVD-RAM discs with the 1.83GHz iMac

Simple one, but I can't seem to find out for sure. Will the SuperDrive supplied with this machine read the content of any DVD-RAM discs? The official spec says no, but I have read of some occasional compatibility.

Thanks a lot. That definately helps my decision. I loved using lightscribe burners (except the slow speed for the disc labeling) back in my PC days and I'm glad to see that it works on a Mac.

  • How do I import video from a DVD-RAM disc?

Hello-- I'm not sure this is the right place to ask this question, but...
I have a Panasonic DVD recorder and I recorded something on a DVD-RAM disc. I was hoping I could import the video to iMovie, or even play the video on my Mac, but I am unable to do either. The file on the disc that seems to have the data on it is called "VR_MOVIE.VRO" but none of my applications seem to recognize it. Does anybody have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

    DVD's (most) use MPEG-2 format.

  • Burning DVD-RL discs

Anyone successfully burned DVD-RL discs with the iMac? I'm using Toast 8.0.1 and running Leopard and so far my failure rate has been 100%. The discs fail at different places with different errors with both hardware and verify errors.

    transco wrote:

I'm not familiar with "DVD-RL" -- and don't see it mentioned on any iMac spec sheet.
If you meant "DVD-R DL", it wasn't supported by the built-in "superdrive" until the most recent generation ALU iMacs. See the thread linked below for more details:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1196774
BTW, my 20" white iMac burns "DVD+R DL" media with no problem (but only at 2.5x speed, as specified).

Have you guys been able to activate your iphone yet? I bought an iphone 4s from eBay and it worked fine, but the previous user had left some data on it, so last night I used the "erased all content and settings" to restore it to factory setting so I can start fresh and restore my backup. But now I'm stuck at the activation screen (I get the same "the activation server is temporarily unavailable")  and can't get it to activate, even if I use my old deactivated AT&T sim card (I'm on straighttalk now).
I might try activating it with an active AT&T sim card from my fiancee's phone when she gets home, so I'll let you know how that works outs.
If it's true that the server is down; anyone know when it will be back up again? Thanks in advance.

Can anyone help me please have tried everything restoring my factory settings to when I first bought the laptop as new and still no joy desperately need help.
    Any answers lol ?

Lot of people have problem installing WXP on new notebook because of missing SATA driver. Without this driver HDD will not be recognized properly and WXP installation cannot start because of missing HDD.
To avoid this SATA settings in BIOS can be changed from AHCI to compatibility. This is OK but HDD will not run on default speed and with full performance. So it is better to install WXP with SATA driver and AHCI settings.
Now when the WXP is installed you cannot change this BIOS settings. it will probably end with blue screen at start up. So if you want to have well working WXP on your notebook you must install WXP again (AHCI mode in BIOS).
In this forum you can find hundreds of threads with good explanation how to do this.
If this will help with DVD I don't know but I don't see any reason why you should not be able to use optical disc drive for burning DVDs.
I have Satellite A300 with WXP Sp3 and NERO. It burns all empty medias.

  • IDVD will no longer burn DVD+R discs

After years of happily burning both -R and +R DVD's, now suddenly my iDVD will only work with -R? I'm stranded here with no -R discs (and a new 50-pack of the other), so I hope you can tell me how to restore this function of my software. I suspect it has to do with updates that make the various components incompatible, but I wouldn't have a clue how to remedy that.
I've tried closing and re-starting iDVD, emptying the trash, removing the motion function, deleting encoded assets, moving com.apple.iDVD something something to the desktop before opening iDVD, but nothing made it keep the disc in the drive. It spits it out saying to please insert a DVD-R disc.
    Thanks!
    Roxane

    Try this:
    1. Instead of burning directly to disc, use the option in iDVD to output to a disc image
    2. Upon completion of creating the disc image, use Apple Disk Utility to burn the image to your new media
If that fails, it is likely a media issue; your drive is not compatible with your new media.
Outside of this, something else you can try is to simply see if the disc can be burned using Finder. While in Finder, you can mount writable discs in your drive for backing up files and folders. If Finder cannot mount and write to the disc, again you have a media issue.
    What to do?
Wait for Apple to update the drive firmware to handle newer media; or get an external drive that is newer; or purchase new media. The latter is your cheapest and most timely solution.
I've got quite a selection of media here and seem to notice that some brands give me the most problem. I've found that Verbatim, Sony, Fuji, TDK, and Taiyo-Yuden seem to give predictable results time and time again.
My most recent failure was with some off-brand +R DL media I picked up at a Frys sale. While trying to burn a Snow Leopard install disk, I had 3 failures in a row - drive recognized the disc and burned it, but it would not verify. Going back to one of my tried and true brands resulted in success on the first try.

  • Cannot burn dvd without theme

I cannot do what would seem to be the simplest step in imovie and idvd. I have created my customize movie in imovie (no canned themes or audio) and when I go to the shre menu and choose idvd so I can burn my movie, I cannot burn a dvd without first choosing a theme. I don't need a theme...I wnat my movie just the way it is. Please help. This is so frustrating.
