L305 Satellite reimaged need to update browser - Vista OS

Reimaged Satellite L305. Need to upgrade browser, but when attempted to update get message that OS does not support. Ask if 64 bit or 32 bit and to contact software publisher. Running Internet Explorer as browser. What is the workaroung? When I try to contact Microsoft cannot get to website get message to update browser, then go around same tree with error message. Any suggestions appreciated.

Which Satellite L305? There is a label on the bottom.

So you restored the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents?
Attach a picture of the error message when you try to upgrade. If there is a different message when you browse, attach that one too.

Zen Micro needs firmware update for Vista, but what now as it fail

As I now use Vista (paid for by my work) I came to install my Zen Micro which wasn't recognised so I came to the website and discovered that you need version 2 of the firmware for it to be compatible with Vista. Having never had the need to upgrade before I was still on Version one so I downloaded it onto my other WinXP machine?which I've used my Zen on alot before to do the upgrade. Started the upgrade and all seemed to be well until a point a 3rd of the way through a box came up asking what I'd like to do with the device (like the one when a USB key inserted). Leaving the upgrade I returned hour later to see nothing has changed and the upgrade has failed.
I've tried all the options with recovery mode but it still just shows up as having version 0.0.65 and when inserted into a PC shows up as a?Creative Zen Micro?in device manage and has a 20MB disk partition for storage but when I try and run a firmware patch it says its not connected.
Looking round this forum this seems to be quite common upto now but with the release of Vista people are forced to take the 'risk' of running a firmware update that when it fails doesn't seem to be recoverable even in recovery mode. Please can you look into updating the firmware to find these devices that it can't see, for many years I've laughed at my friends with their crashing ipods that need charging everyday due to not being able to change the battery but it now seems the jokes on me.

I'm looking for some updated drivers for my vga card, and the only ones left are from 2011(wich are pretty old).
I've managed to update them with AMD generic drivers, but since i have a 24" screen when i do it, I get black borders in max resolution. This happens, I believe, because the graphics card was tweeked by Toshiba so my only option is that you have some updated drivers for it.
Any help/info would be great.

The drivers from Toshiba re modified but I dont think that your left/right borders on the external monitor are related to this modification. The Toshiba drivers support an overheating protection but AMD drivers dont support such feature.
However, I think the issue ie related to wrong resolution. You should choose the native resolution used by the external monitor.
Furthermore you should check in the ATI catalyst the settings which are related to the border I dont know the exact description but as far as I can remember there is an option which eliminates the left/right border.

Software update will only bring you up to the current level of the system you are using - you are at the maximum for Snow Leopard. To get Lion or higher you will have to go to the Mac App Store in Applications and purchase it there (Yosemite is free). You will need to check that your Mac meets the requirements and you should particularly note that PPC programs such as AppleWorks will not run in Lion or above.
The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price (though it's reported to have been removed from sale in some countries so may well cease to be available generally) but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Yosemite (10.10.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.

If the problem is only with Safari and you are otherwise happy with Snow Leopard you could switch to FireFox (free) - the latest version of that will run in Snow Leopard.

It seems Toshiba has published a special version of BIOS for Windows Vista.
If you want you can check it on the Toshiba driver page.
But if your Vista runs correctly on the notebook with previous BIOS version you dont need to update the BIOS.
I would recommend updating the BIOS if any strange operational behavior will appear.

This notebook is a little bit old and there are no real new BIOS versions.

The newest one was released on 16/05/02 -> its 8.20 BIOS

PS: was the notice to upgrade browser, a pop-up window over the web page you
were looking at? Could be some adware, or other malware item is in your Mac.
I do not see those kinds of prompts to upgrade anything in my Mac, and
mine run an OS X older than your Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Visiting the same sites.

Not at every website, but at some, when the site first opens, I get a message/popup saying, "You need to update your browser. Your browser is out of date and some features of this web site may not display correctly. You can update your Chrome, Safari, Explorer, Firefox browser..." Each one is a clickable link. Usually, I can click on an "X" or just somewhere else in the web site to continue browsing.
I'm running Safari 5.1.10. Isn't that the most up to date version for OS 10.6.8? Are they saying I need to update my OS; isn't that the only way to update Safari?

Use Firefox if you want to stay with 10.6. It is still being updated.

Do a backup before installing.
If you can/do upgrade, I recommend you make a copy of the installer and move it out of your Applications folder. The installer self-destructs. The copy will keep you from having to download the installer again. You can make a bootable USB stick to install using this free program.

One option is to create a new partition (~30- 50 GB), install the new OS, and ‘test drive’ it. If you like/don’t like it it, you can then remove the partition. Do a backup before you do anything. By doing this, if you don’t like it you won't have to go though the revert process.

Satellite l300 need to restore with no discs

long story short, traded my daughter laptops so she would have a newer one for college. it is a satellite pro l300 EZ-1501. the problem is, it will not update to vista service pack 2. update downloads but will not install. don't know what the error code is, but i think it was just one of those generic codes. i do not have any recovery discs of any kind and would like to restore it to factory settings. i know i can do that at boot up, but will i have to have any other discs to restore it (like a windows disc or something else)? also, will i have to have the activation code for windows? it is running ok right now, but i would like to get it running as good as i can get. thanks for any help.

See page 62 of your User's Guide for the HDD recovery process. Does not require any disks although you should create disks for possible future use ( Instructions in your User's Guide). You don't need an activation code. If the computer is running fine, I would strongly advise that you leave well enough alone. I don't know of any reason why it won't update to SP2 unless there is no SP2 for Vista Basic that I notice your machine came with. I wouldn't think that would be the case.

Need to Update Flashplayer but I have the most recent one.

Hi. I will start by saying that I am computer illiterate, so I will need careful and patient help. Here is my issue: Whenever I try to play a video, You Tube or otherwise, I am told I need to update flashplayer. When I go to update it, I am told that I need to close windows messenger. According to my settings, messenger is disabled. Whenever i get rid of the messenger box, I am told that installation is incomplete. Also, according to my settings, I have the most recent version of flashplayer installed, 10.1.102.64, the one for IE.
On a totally unrelated note, what is the difference between Spyware and anti virus protection? I have McAffee.

I need your computer info, as XP, Vista, Win7? Also what version of the IE browser? If you don't know, go up to Help at the top of the IE and click on it, then About Internet Explorer.
