L410 (0616-A18) Wireless Lan issue

Hello all,
i have been using my notebook for more than two years with ZERO complaints, till my hard disk died few days ago,
i bought a new Intel SSD and installed a new copy of Windows 7
I am having a weird problem, which is that i am not able to install the drivers for the Wireless LAN card, i am pretty sure that i have the realtek one and that i used the driver from realtek on my previous installation and it was working perfectly, now i find three types of Intel drivers and one Thinkpad driver, none of them install the card properly
the card is showing in Device manager under other device as "Network Controller"
is there a way to know the exact model of the card to get its driver from the manufacturer website ? or any other suggestions ?
Thanks in advance

Hey there safrout,
Are you referring to the Realtek RTL8191SE 802.11b/g/n? After quite a bit of digging I found that this card was available in some machines but not in all. It may be worthwhile to check the driver that they have there.
Have you tried using the ThinkVantage System Update Utility?

  • Issues after changing the AP Name on Wireless LAN Controller

I recently changed the AP Name of all the Wireless Access Points in my branch office (which are all associated to the branch office Wireless LAN Controller(s)). After that I noticed that all branch office employees are unable to connect to the employee SSID. The employee SSID uses web authentication and employees are authenticated using Head Office AD via Cisco ACS, both located at the Head Office.
There are other SSID's on the WLC which all work fine, but only employee SSID which uses AD authentication does not work. AD authenticaion is working fine because employee's in HO are successfully able to connect to the employee SSID at HO.
The branch office is connected to the HO via a tunnel link. We noticed that if we restart both the ASA at either ends of the tunnel. The employee SSID starts working again but only temporarily for a day or so... what could be the issue? Can renaming the AP's cause issues? How can I fix this problem?
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks Elliott,
I did the debug like you said and I am getting the following debug messages:

  • Wireless Lan Controller Issue

    Hi All,
We have a Wireless Lan Controller 4402 with software version 4.0.155.5. On Friday we experience a problem where our clients wouldn't get redirected to the internal webpage for authentication. It would just come up with page not found. We know the page was working fine becasue we could manually type in the
    https://1.1.1.1/login.html and the
page would come up and you could login successfully. The users who were already connected to the controller were not affected and continued to operate. We have 2 other WLC's at the same software revision and they were not affected so I don't think it has anything to to with software level. Its like the webserver in the wlc failed to work. We failed over the AP's to the 3rd WLC and rebooted WLC1. After the WLC1 restarted we failed one of the previous non-working AP's back to it and it works again.
I know "now" there is debug commands to run at the time when the WLC wasn't working, but unfortunately I didn't know at the time. The WLC is running again fine and I was wondering if anybody has seen this issue before.
Any ideas on a fix or reason would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

We are running WiSM 4.1.185.0 and we just had the similar problem with one controller. The other three controllers were fine when it happened. The exactly issue was the nslookup failed(timed out) from the client, so the web login page won't show when people lunch the browser. A reboot of the controller fixed the problem. We have been running Cisco LWAPP for more than a year (from 4.0.155.5 to 4.1.185.0) and it is the first time we see this problem. TAC is still investigating the cause.

  • Wireless Lan connection issue with Linux clients

    Hi
In a large Wireless Lan enviroment for a university, we have 3 WISM moduls attached on a 6k hw - Manged by ACS v6.0.181.0
We recently upgraded the software version of the controllers from 4.x to 7.0.98.0 - the Emergency Image version is 5.2.157.0
Since then, the students with Linux clients have massive connection issue - repeated connection lost in a short time period.
However the students with Windows clients have no problem at all.
The studends report, that their linux clients getting so much of some kind of unnecessary broadcast traffic which can not be handled by the NIC - and the NIC goes down - and this happens all 5-10 minutes.
Affected Linux clients are: Ubuntu v10.10 - also OpenSuse, Fedora and Arch-linx with latest OS version.
Any Idea how I could solve this problem?
Thanks in advance for your help

    Hi Nicolas
Thanks for your reply. The broadcast forwarding is disabled on WLC's.
Pls find below the attached picture, which shows the captured broadcast traffic on a linux client (sent by a student to me).
I'm not sure, if its really only the broadcast traffic, which the linux clients can not handle.
From my point of view, it seems also to be that the linux clients are somehow disadvantaged among the other clients like windows or mac, if they all trying to get a wireless connection.
But the fact is only the linux clients are affected - and this happens to the linux clients only in our wireless infrastructure.
Windows or Mac clients have no such problem at all

  • WPA issue on Intel(R) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B

    Hi,
I'm trying to use the WPA authentication using my Toshiba's Tecra S1 with an integrated Intel(R) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B. I've read that this adapter supports WPA. I've installed the newest drivers under my Windows xp SP2, but the OS doesn't allows me to select WPA authentication in the wireless properties.
    Any help is wellcome.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
The Wlan encryption standard you will find in the WLan properties.
You have to select you SSID and click on the properties.
If there you will not find any option for WPA so this WLan miniPCI card doesnt support this encryption option.
Note: This option depends on the hardware and not on the software. You cannot enable the encryption by updating any drivers or any SP.

I am running Solaris 8 (6/00) for Intel platform with xFree86 version 4.0.3 on my laptop. My CISCO 350 PCMCIA Wireless LAN module work cannot be used nor detected in Solaris. Can anyone help me with that?

Are you running any other Vm's on the host server?
Are they working? Did you enable your BIOS to support VM?
Then with regards to the install make sure you follow the guide as it can get tricky.
I forgot to add Promiscuous personally. Make double check you Network Backing. I am not running a VM anymore - just recalling where I had issues.

  • PCI Card Slot - Wireless LAN Card Problems - Help!

    Help.
I'm having problems getting my board to recognize both:
Linksys WMP11 Wireless LAN card; and
    Netgear WG311T Wireless LAN card
(returned the Linksys card, but the Netgear card had the same problem).
Neither card is being picked up by Windows (XP Home), although both the "power" and "link" LED lights up when inserted.  I've tried every PCI slot, same issue.  Nothing shows up in the device manager, and no new hardware is detected.  The Netgear software tells me that the card has not been installed.
Am left thinking I need to RMA the board.  Any suggestions woudl be much appreciated.

    Samsung 120mb SATA 7200rpm
    Pioneer 108D DVD
    Sapphire 9600xt

My roommate has a similar setup as you and I am having the same problem getting a pci wifi card to work in the machine.  I have tried both a Linksys WMP54G and a Netgear WG311. Both cards will scan for networks bit will never connect my router (Linksys WRT54G). Just to get them to recognise the network, I have to turn off WEP, and turn on ESSID broadcast.  Both of these cards work prefect in other computers. I know it not a signal problem because I can take my laptop and set it in the same location and it gets excellent signal.
I have tried changing slots in the machine, the wifi cards were the only PCI cards in the machine and an GeForce 6800 GT in the AGP slot. I have no idea what the problem could be. But I'm leaning towards the mobo at this point.

  • 802.1x Authentication on Wired and Wireless LAN

I have successfully configured 802.1x authentication on wired and wireless Lan. We have Cisco Switches, ACS SE and Windows AD.
But i have one issue regarding the Single Sign on while authentication using the 802.1x with Windows Active directory the users that are login first time not able to logon but the users that have their profiles already existed in their PC then there is no issue and they successfully authenticated and login easily.
Is there any way of login successfully for the users first time using 802.1x authentication with Windows AD like a Single Sign On?

We ran into the same situation from time to time. We implemented 802.1x authentication using the Cisco Secure Services Client (SSC) on the windows hosts.
At the beginning we were completly unable to logon on the maschines where no locally stored windows profile exists. After change to timeout to authenticate at the network in the SSC options we are able to logon to the network and also be authenticated by the domain controller.
Sadly this works out often as a timing issue. Most times the user needs to try a couple of times. At the moment, I'm also very interessted in a good way to avoid this (as it seems to be) racecondition.
Hope that someone else has any clue?

  • Wireless Profile issue

    Hi all,
One of my client was using Autonomous Wireless setup in 2 of their offices, and user authentication was done through Certificate based authentication using AD. In one of their office, saying Office-1, they deployed WLC 5508 and all the autonomous APs were replaced with LWAPP APs. Controller is integrated with AD using Microsoft IAS and users are successfully authenticating.
Now, there is strange problem. Once the user creates a Wireless Profile at Office-1 and successfully connects to the Network, and then he/she moves to Office-2, he is not able to re-connect to the Network and he/she has to delete the existing profile, create the same profile again and then he/she is able to join the Network. Wireless Profile configuration is same for both the locations, except for the thing that Office-1 has Wireless LAN controller and Office-2 does not have WLC. This issue is being faced with only Windows 7 machines, and on Windows XP, it is working fine without deleting/creating new Wireless profile. Looking forward for valuable response.
