L430 not recognizing external monitor

I just switched companies. I've had two other, older versions of Thinkpads. When I plugged them into my home monitor (actually the KVM) via the external VGA port, the thinkpads would automatically recognize it as a monitor and extend the display. It would also keep it there when I was switched away on the KVM and returned.
My L430 isn't doing that. It won't recognize the monitor as a monitor. Rather, it forces me to connect to a projector. Worse, it will not remember context. If I switch away via the KVM, put the computer to sleep or hibernate it, the next time the computer is awake and the KVM is switched to it I have to reconnect to the monitor all over again, including moving my windows back to it again.
What did Lenovo mess up in that, is there a switch I can change to get the same recognition of an external monitor I've had from two previous thinkpads?

Do you have another cable you can try? Are you near an Apple store? You could probably take the drive and your computer to a nearby store and ask them to try the hard drive with one of their computers.
There is one other place to check to see if the computer is even seeing the drive at all.
Connect the hard drive. Open up *System Profiler* (Applications>Utilities). In the left-hand column, click "Firewire." Does your hard drive show up there at all?

  • Macbook pro(2008 later) can not recognise external monitor(NEC UXI2090) with mini-DP to DVI adapter with 9600GT

I bought mini-DP to DVI frome Apple several monthes ago and it worked well in that time until yesterday the external monitor show me no signal sign. Other PCs were connected with the same cable and monitor and they are fine. I am wondering there is something wrong in the adaptor or macbook pro. Furthermore I found the external monitor can display nornally when I switched to 9400 graphic card and used mini-DP to VGA adapter. If I switch to 9600GT no signal again. If I switch 9400 using mini-DVI, it is shown on the external screening: Out of range... In a word, In the mode of 9600GT, mac can not recognise external monitor(I can not detect it in the systerm preference even I press detect display buttun) and 9400 works in VGA mode. However when I connect adapter to mac, the screen showed blue flash.
I reseted SMC, no use; I created a new account or enter mac to safe mode, no use; so far I did not reseted PRAM beacuse of something wrong of my system. I am downlaoding Mountain Lion OS and will install it. Then I will reset PRAM and try again.
I do not know whether I shoud change the adapter or the single-link DVI cable to dual-link. Someone said it is useful in their condition. I tried some methods from BBS, such as connected when devices were off and then open, and so on. I failed.
    Any suggestion for this problem?
    Addition: OS: 10.7.4(Lion)

I turns out that the logic board of my MacBook Pro was faulty (despite being brand new).
I took it to the Apple Store, presented the problem, and one of the Tech's came to the same conclusion that I had -- hardware failure.  Phone support was no help in the matter (and even told me that what I was trying to do wasn't a supported option, which is rediculous).  However, the Genius Bar did take care of the problem, and my MacBook Pro was back to me with a replaced logic board within a few days.
    Hope that htis helps.

  • MacBook Pro does not sense external monitor (Panasonic HDTV in my case) via thunderbolt-HDMI connection...Is update 10.8.3 helping anyone?

My MacBook Pro (newest model in 2013 so far) does not sense external monitor (Panasonic HDTV in my case) via thunderbolt-HDMI connection...Is update 10.8.3 helping anyone else who has this issue? I returned my multiple HDMI adapters after figuring out it had to be an Apple issue n not the adapters so I can't check it myself now.
    Thanks!

I have late 2012 MBP 13" and connect to my Panasonic Plasma correctly.
But using the same cable, can't connect to an LG 47LM6200, the MBP detects the TV, the screen blinks blue, but the TV shows "no sinal detected" message.

  • Macbook does not recognize external monitor

    Hi,
I have a Macbook and I tried to connect an external Benq FP93GW using a Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter but the external monitor does not detect any signal.
    Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance for any help.

You might read this post of someone who couldn't get his external display to be recognized until he reset the MacBook's SMC (System Management Controller).
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9351216#9351216
This thread also has some other details on trying to workaround color issues on the external display but it was a reset of the SMC that finally allowed the MacBook to recognize the display. However, Apple cautions that a reset of the SMC should only be done after other options or possibilities have been exhausted. Before you try a reset of the SMC you might want to try a reset of the MacBook's PRAM.

  • Mbp not recognizing external display

I have a 2010 MBP 2.8 and I'm trying to connect to a 24" Samsung LCD display to use as a 2nd monitor.   I'm using the mini display to DVI.  And plugging a DVI to HDMI cord to that.
When I plug it into the tv and computer.  The screen on computer flashes blue a couple times then nothing happens.   The computer is not recognizing the display.    I'm running Mountian Lion obviously and theres no option in "Displays" in preferences.
Am I doing something wrong?  I had a old Powerbook G4 that I did this with all the time with Leopard OS.    Whats changed?

Hey all, did a software update on my partner's mbp yesterday (10.5.8, security update 2009-006) and had the same thing happen where our external viewsonic display was no longer being detected. Plugging the cable in and out of the mini display port had the same effect already mentioned here where the mbp screen flashed blue like it was about to recognise the external display, but then nothing. Selecting detect displays from display preferences also had no effect. Tried resetting the PRAM and also the PMU, still nothing. So I shut down the mbp; disconnected the mini display cable; then turned off the viewsonic monitor at the power outlet and left it off for 10-20 seconds. Then I turned the viewsonic's power outlet back on, started up the mbp, turned the monitor on and plugged the mini display port cable in and the external display was back and working properly. Have shut down/restarted numerous times since then and it's all still working normally. Not quite sure how/why this busted in the first place, or why turning the viewsonic off at the power outlet seems to have fixed it, but it might be worth a shot for those experiencing similar problems... and it sure beats having to install/reinstall a different os version (which was going to be my next option)!

  • My imac will not detect external monitor after recent update. Is there a way to fix this?

I have a VGA monitor plugged in to my imac using the VGA adapter to the mini-DVI.  All was working well.  Since I updated over the weekend, the computer will not detect the monitor.
Any ideas how to fix this?

    Pcantin wrote:
I have tried another VGA monitor and that failed as well.  Since you don't think the update was the cause, it may be that the adapter I am using decided to call it quits.  I will see if I can find another and test that out.
I will look into the external drive idea as well.
Thanks for your help on this.
I didn't think about the adaptor, but you should at least visually inspect both the adaptor and the cable at both ends. If one or more pins got bent even slightly the connection might fail. The cables can also fail internally. Replacing the adaptor and cable may be the quickest thing to do initially. If you want to try to save money, first replace the adaptor, and if the problem persists, then go replace the cable (or vice versa).

  • IMac does not recognize external monitor using Mini Display Port to HDMI

    Hello,
I have been trying to get an external monitor (HDTV) set up for use with my iMac using a Mini Display Port to HDMI cable I just got. However, when I connect it to my iMac's mini display port, the imac's screen goes black for about a second, then returns, but it does not detect the external display. The other display is just showing a "no signal" message on the screen.
I have restarted, reset PRAM, connected and disconnected the cable several times, tried changing the resolution on the imac, plugged in/out the other display, and clicked the "detect displays" button using the option key in display preferences, but nothing has worked.
I am using an early 2009 iMac running Mavericks.
I've been using the AirParrot app, but it's horrible for video and a little slow.
Can anyone please help sort the issue here? I feel like ive exhausted everything that I know to do.
    Thanks.

I am having the same issue.  Hope Apple can fix this soon!!!

  • Macbook Pro(Mid-2014) Not Detecting External Monitor

Hi everyone, I'm trying to connect my MBP to an external monitor via HDMI. Since my MBP has an HDMI port built in, I'm not using any adapters between it and the monitor. But nothing is happening when I connect the HDMI cable, my MBP does not seem to detect it. I have tested my monitor with that HDMI cable on a desktop PC, and it all works without any issues there, so I reckon it must be something on the MBP end of the connection. But what could it possibly be? I have looked through forums and read countless threads about external display problems, but have not found any info that could identify the problem. I have tried booting my MBP and/or turning on my monitor before and after connecting the HDMI cable, and there was never even a hint of detection.
I'm running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1, and the external monitor in question is an HP Pavilion 27Xi in 1080p.

I have a problem connecting external display (Dell U2311H) to my 13" MacBook Pro (Early 2011).
I use Tecklink Mini DasplayPort to HDMI adapter (http://www.techlink.uk.com/products/wires_cables/wiresmedia/wiresmedia_media/wir esmedia_mini_displayport_plug_to_hdmi_plug), but since U2311H doesn't have HDMI input, I also use Manhattan DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter (http://www.manhattan-products.com/en-US/products/8101-displayport-adapter).
    And nothing.
The display is not detected, no picture or even external monitor presence at all.
I even reset PRAM, and installed 10.8.2 Supplementary update.
I also plugged and unplugged all I could, with no luck.
As I can see on Apple discussion, it is a common problem with 2011 MacBook Pro's.
It seems like the problem is in Thundebolt port, it somehow does not work properly.

  • Windows 8 Bootcamp Does Not Recognize External Monitor

So, my Bootcamp of Windows 8 does not recognize my external monitor when I try to plug it in. I have read that the startup must recognize the monitor during the boot process. However, I have already done this and my external monitor remains in sleep mode. My drivers are all up to date with this bootcamp and I work on programming a lot so I need a solution for this issue because going back and forth between windows of the internet and my code is not ideal for me and wastes too much time. The external monitor works when I run my OS X, just not on Windows 8. If anyone could point me in the direction of how to solve this issue, it would be greatfully appreciated.

They're downloadable. But I'm going to create a system restore point in case something happens.
The below discussion had a similar issue but with Windows 7

  • IMac 24" could not detect external monitor (early 2009 model)?

I am trying to add a second monitor to my iMac through the mini Display port with a mini-Display to VGA convert cable, somehow my iMac could not detect the second monitor at all on the preference-display menu. After connected the cable and an external monitor I restarted iMac a few times, the external monitor still could not be detected.
Any suggestions? Any simple method to test if the mini Display port is working properly? My iMac OSX 10.8.5
    Thanks
    David

    Hi,
Just tried another miniDisplay - VGA cable, it works! No need to restart iMac. Immeditely I can bring display windows to the second monitor, say, a DVD movie play to the second monitor while working on the main iMac monitor for other tasks.

  • Problem: MBP Is not allowing external monitor Widescreen resolutions.

I am using a 27" LCD HD TV (Yes, TV, not monitor) DVI->DVI and the MBP will not allow me to use a widescreen resolution on my external monitor.
Yes, I assure you, it is Widescreen. The native resolution is 1280x720.
Anyone have a clue how I can fix this? Running a stretched 4:3 screen ***** HARD. This was my old windows PC monitor and I never had this issue before.

    Hi,
I've got the same problem. Tried SwitchResX with not much success. I'm using as second screen a Benq w100 projector. When I force resolutions like 854x480 at about 60Hz, the projector won't recognise it, which makes sense since the input is not supported as such from a PC.
I think the clue would be sending a HDTV/HDMI signal through the DVI cable. Has anybody managed to do this with the ATI Radeon X1600 that comes with the MBP?
