L512 How to do Full Re-Install

I have an L512 (Win 7 Home Premium 32 bit, 4Gb RAM, 2.40GHz processor. It keeps chugging along, but is starting to slow down, and at times, really choke up. My virus and malware protection is current. I'm thinking it just needs a new lease on life with a fresh re-install of the OS and all my programs and data. I've done this before on several previous computers, so I understand the general scope of this project, but it has been a few years. I don't think I've ever used the Lenovo recovery process, but I probably have an old recovery DVD around, or if not, I can create that disk. What I'm trying to avoid is if I use a recovery option, not just re-installing with all the bloated or corrupt files that are giving me trouble now. So I'd like to go back to my original Win 7 32 bit, the drivers, my programs, and my data. Can I get the original fresh versions of the OS through recovery? Or would I have to start from scratch with Windows 7? I guess I don't understand exactly what Lenovo Recovery actually does. Or is there a simple way to re-install from scratch? I don't mind going that route as long as I can find the OS and all the drivers. I think I am going to upgrade to a larger SSD drive when I do this. Suggestions appreciated! Thanks, David

You will find all individual drivers here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-l-series-laptops/thinkpad-l512 However if you do not want to go through the pain of finding your system hardware and find which one is the suitable driver, just run system update after you setup the new OS and it will do the rest for you. http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht003029

How many computers can you install the Micro Office 2011 on?

A full (retail, single license key) MS Office license permits you to install Office on 1 desktop Mac + 1 portable (laptop) Mac provided 1) you own both computers and 2) you do not use Office simultaneously on both computers.
Beyond that, it depends on the specific Office package you have.  Some packages have more specific terms.
For example, if you have MS Office Home & Student 2011 you will have 3 activation keys permitting you to install it on 3 computers, period.  (Not 1 desktop + 1 laptop per license key.)
The license key pertains to the computer (device) not the number of user accounts on the device.  So, if you have 2 or 3 or more user accounts on your iMac you only need to use 1 license key for the iMac itself.  You apply the license key (activate the software) only in the admin account under which you installed the software.  Once you activate the software in the primary admin account, Office will be usable in all user accounts on the iMac.  Do not try to activate the software under other user accounts on the same Mac - if you do you will unnecessarily use up more license keys.

One way is to download and install Saft - MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.

    Hi,
Can you please guide me on how to enable full text search in UCM after I have installed it. My database is Oracle 10g. It would be great if you could guide me through the steps since I am very new to this product.

    Hi
Are you sure that your indexer is finishing without any errors? Check activeindex.hda under \search directory to see what is the variable set for activeindex variable? If Oracle Text is the indexer search enabled then the variable activeindex should either OTS1 or OTS2. If anything else then you have indexer problems that is not indexing documents.
Check the CS log file to see if indexer errors are shown there. If yes, then put it over here so that we can analyse it.
    Hope it helps

  • How to prepare for FRESH INSTALL?

    hi all.
i am about 2 years into my move back to mac with a small professional office and i am considering a fresh install of Lion from Snow Leopard on the Mac Pro (1st generation) and a 2009/10 MacBookPro. I believe the Mac Pro shipped with Leopard and the MacBookPro shipped with Snow Leopard but not sure if i am off by an OS release on that.
in any event, it has been a /ton/ of effort in customizing this setup and it includes an install of Mac Drive, Parallels and other software and software settings. I have also edited the registry on windows in a couple of instances and i have run a couple of Terminal customizations on the mac side.
    two questions.
    1. what should i do to prepare for a fresh install and how much time might be involved in redoing my setup?
    2. is it worth all the effort? i mean, i /do/ have a 2 TB hard drive to take the place of my existing 1 TB drive and I could use the extra space. but at the same time i wonder if a fresh install is necessary.
    TIA

If I understand correctly, you are still running SL. As I said, I'm not familiar with this when using any Windows install. If it were strictly Apple, then it wouldn't be a problem. But still if you want to do a full clean install, that would require reinstalling all applications manually. Otherwise, you would still be migrating the same files your already have.
Installing Lion over SL will give you a new OS. Unless you have hard drive issues, this should be all that's needed.
What I would do is check for any PPC applications. If you have any, then uninstall them. Check each application for complete removal instructions.
You might also use an application such as ONYX to caches, etc. Repair permissions. Just to get the system as clean as possible.
Once done, you would want to make a current backup. Maybe even a second just in case. You can always do a restore if nessary.
You could clone your system to an external drive using either SuperDuper or CarbonCopy Cloner. The advantage is that it's bootable. You could then install Lion on either the internal or external drive and make sure it works OK.

  • HOW DO I DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL MY PROGRAMME?

I am soooooooooooooooo frustrated and angry. I bought a download card for Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended. Spent a day figuring out how to get it validated. Waited another to get a serial number and now??? I have an email with a serial number, have my stuff showing me the serial number, but how do I download and install? After a long search, and reading everything to do with CC (which I do not have), I got sent to a site. After downloading both files, I find it is for those who had a DVD (as per the blah blah on the page). I just want to download and install my software and not spend another 5 hours doing so! How do I do this...? I do not have a DVD

What site/link did you download from.  There is not normally a download involved if you have the disk (the download is provided for those that don't have the disc).
You should be able to download the trial version and use your serial number to activate it to full use.  Here are a couple of links where you can get the trial version.
    In the Adobe site:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/cs6-product-downloads.html
    ProDesignTools Site:
For the following link, be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site and have cookies enabled in your browser or else the download will not work properly.

  • Overwrite of Trial Version working files upon full Version install.

I downloaded and used a trial version of Acrobate XI, having created and saved an number of files.  I have since then purchased the full version on disk.
    1. Should I uninstall the Trial Version first before I attempt to install full version??
    2. If so, how do I save the files that I created, so I can transfer to the full program version??
    3. If I do not need to Uninstall the Trail Version; then upon full version install, will my saved files be AUTOMATICALLY be transfered / incorporated into the full version?
    4. If not, how do I transfer files to the full version?
I am using HP Pavillion All-in-One with Windows 8.
    Thx Much.....

    Hi p3puke,
There's no difference between the trial version of Acrobat XI and he full version except for the no. of days of usage. The trial software is good for only 30 days.
Please activate the trial version with the serial number you bought to convert it into full version.
To do this launch Acrobat, go to the 'Help' menu and select 'Activate'.
None of the files you were working on will be affected so you can relax :-)

  • How I was able to install Windows 10 on HP Stream 13 (32GB SSD)

I wanted to install windows 10 on my Stream 13 (only 32 GB SSD). With the recovery partition and windows 8.1 plus all updates i was left with not nearly enough space to install Windows 10.  After a few failures I was able to make this work and this is how. My solution to the problem. This is not to say that a easier one may turn up but this is the only thing that worked for me. *Compleate a fresh recovery to create as clean of a install as posible*Install all updates*use the Media creation tool to create a USB for the instal.https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10*On another USB I created a copy of the system recovery (because my goal was to delete the recovery partition after installing windows 10 and save some much needed space)*Click on the setup on the USB made from the media creation tool (dont boot in to it this time and run a full clean install or windows will not recognise your 8.1 key). follow the directions to upgrade your pc. *Somewhere here i was told that i didnt have enough space on my  computer but was given an option to select an additional drive or USB to compleate the upgrade. I used my micro SD but had the option to use a USB thumb drive as well.  Just plug one in with enough space, refresh and select the one you want.*once done I was running a upgraded version of windows 10. and all was well.  Now at this point my hardware was recognized for Windows 10 and I can reinstall all I want.*Personally at this point i didnt want the 7GB windows 8 recovery paertition just sitting there. *I now ran the USB made by the media creation tool to run a full clean install of windows 10. During that process I was able to format the C: drive and additionaly the recovery partition (but not remove it yet)  There are plenty of youtube videos on how to run this clean install with step by step help.*once windows 10 was back up I used DISKPART to remove the recovery partition and then went back in to Disk Management to expand the main partition to fill the remaining empty space on the SSD.  Again there are many great videos and posts on how to run DISKPART and Disk Management. Sounds rough but was very simple and done very fast. *Lastly ran all updates and followed a little guide from HP on how to make sure you have all the right GP drivers up and going on a Clean install. near the bottom you will see Steps to take after upgrading to windows 10. *Now DO NOT LOOSE that USB recovery tool you made because that can always get you back to factory settings.  http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=5071171&docId=emr_na-c04734799&docLocale=en_US  Sorry if any of this is unclear but when I was trying to get this to work I could nto find anything with the steps to take and I ended up having to use the system recovery USB i made time and time again to start again.       EDIT:  I have am HP Stream 13 that came with 8.1   The hard drive ont hese things is not large enough to compleate the upgrade to windows 10. So i preformed a clean install from a USB.  Now i have 10 and it is not activated.  NOW I read that you MUSST preform the upgrade first in order for windows to detect your hardware and register it as valis for the free windows 10.   BUT since upgrade was not posible I have a windows 8.1 key that is useless since there is no service to change the key to a windows 10 key..   This is insane. these laptops are being advertisd with the free upgrade to windows 10 yet are not able to be upgraded.  Not sure what to do now.    I am running a new HP stream 13 touchscreen with windows 8.1 I want to upgrade to windows 10 before I am back to school (before i have to install all kinds of software and files) Obciously the Stream does not have enough SSD left to preform the upgrade.  I have created a clean install USB thumb drive but am worried about using it.  From what i have read the recovery partition that is not deleteable houses files that the system accesses. When i do a Clean install wiping the C drive (but not the partition) will everything work? will i loose the use of that partition space forever?   and lastly I used a program to access my windows key since it is located in the bios not on a sticker but I want to know if anyone else has done this and did it auto detect? or did they run in to any problems.  Sorry if this is all posted somewhere else but i am not finding any information at all.  EDIT!   I do have a USB recovery that i can use if i must to windows 8.1    I installed 10 from a USB and it is workign fine other than it is now saying my KEY isnt valid for this clean install. How do i convert my 8.1 key to a key that will work for 10? I cant see myself buying a new key from microsoft when the laptop was sold with an advert saying free upgrade to 10.   It isnt posible to do a upgrade because of the space required for the upgrade to do its work. this is a real pain.

OMG, what a pain in the neck.  I bought a brand new Stream 13, got it on saturday.  Fired it up, and it immediately wants to upgrade to Win10, which is great.  But, I run it through windows update and it fails, 5 times in a row.  Doesn't really give you an explanation, except update failed.  Thanks a lot So, I download Win10 from MSFT, and put it on a USB, but that fails too, first, the machine refuses to boot off of a USB drive.  If I run the update directly (setup.exe off of the USB, it fails too, but this time telling me I don't have enough drive space. So, i called HP support, remember this PC is 5 hours old at this point.  I got the runaround like i've never seen before.   I talked to 7 different people over a 95 minute perioud, none of whom could help me.  The last person wanted me to pay for a support subscription plan.  Yeah, I am gonna do that for a $200 laptop.
At one point it gives you the option to specify another drive to store the backup of the old OS on.  I tried that, but then later in the upgrade process it says to insert removable media, with an OK and Cancel button. I assume it is looking for that other drive...But it is in there, but apparently it can't find it. So, then i downloaded the ISO from MSFT and made my own USB.  Still won't boot off of it.  Tried running setup.exe but that fails too. Then I copied all the setup files to the micro-SD, and run setup from there.  One thing that the setup does is it asks to download additional updates.  I chose NO, and what do you know, I got one of the insider builds of windows 10 (10162) installed!  But, it is very broken, and can't even get to the store. So, I go to windows update to see if it will move to 10120 (the retail build), but no luck, it tells me my account isn't signed up for windows insider (this is my daughter's PC).  So, i sign her up, but now it won't find any new updates.  SO, I log to the laptop wil MY account, and now it finds 101240!!!! But, when I try to run it, it tell me I need more free space.  now mind you, i haven't installed a single thing, haven't copied a single file, but I am several hundred megabytes short.  I did try the option with storing the old OS files on a different drive, but got the "insert removable media - Ok/Cancel" again.  Arrgggghhhh.  I have removed my daughter's login from the machine, and have now reclaimed just barely enough space to make the upgrade happy. So, this is where I am at for the moment.  Next I will try DiskPart to add the 7GB of recovery space to the C drive, i bet it works then. I give this today only, and if I can't figure out, it goes back to HP, and I'll spend a little more money and get something with more than 21GB of HDD.  Really, shouldn't HP just put the recovery partition on a USB thumb drive and include that with the PC ???? Frustrated in Denver.

  • Corrupted files, how to do erase and install?

I recently purchased an iPhone 4 which had issues syncing video to iPhoto and in the process seems to have corrupted my iMac. Everything is running incredibly slow and despite multiple permission repairs, PRAM resets and restarts the issues persist.
It got the point where I tried a library rebuild on the iPhoto which seemed to repair many of the issues, but general lag through the whole system persisted. I followed with a rebuild on the iTunes library but the slowness is still there.
I had an appt down at the genius bar and they ran full diagnostic showing that the hardware on the iMac was sound but they saw the issue and recognized that it was beyond acceptable.
It was suggested that I try an archive and install that I did yesterday. That took about 6 hours and doesn't seem to have fixed anything. iTunes is still running moderately slow and although iPhoto is fine, Safari is non responsive and merely clicking on the apple menu takes 4 min to open.
I have looked for anything unusual in the activity monitor and nothing stands out. I am out of ideas and looking at a full fresh install.
    Questions -
I can't access Time Machine right now from my iMac and when I try to access it from my powerbook by clicking on the sparse bundle file in my external drive, I get a "barber shop bar" scrolling forever while "checking volumes". I just want to make sure I am backed up before I pull the trigger. Is this the only way to see my time machine volume for my iMac? I tried the ctrl click on time machine but he drive doesn't show up.
How can I do a fresh install on Snow Leopard, it didn't give me any options. Do I access it through the utilities?
How easy can I recover all my files from Time Machine once the update is done? I have never had to access before and being able to just drag and drop would be great.
If there are corrupt files that are causing this meltdown, how will I ensure I don't just reimport them when I have loaded the fresh OS?
Sorry for all the typing, pretty frustrated. Still don't have a solution for the original problem. Just trying to dig out of all the issues that have arisen.

    Mukti,
did you try to install Mavericks, or did you only download its installer without running it? Which version of OS X is currently installed on your MacBook Pro? Do you still have the two grey installation DVDs which originally came in the box with your MacBook Pro? Do you have backups of the files on your MacBook Pro from before you downloaded the Mavericks installer?

  • FCPX how many times can it install on the same computer?

From time to time I like to wipe the drives and start afresh or, whenever there is a new OS, I will perform a clean install. This entails wiping the drive and reloading all software. Most of the apps have 'de-authorize' function, this allows me to use the same licence number for the next re install.
Any idea how FCPX would install after say, four five drive refreshes? Can it understand that it is no longer resident on any machine?
Please note: I do understand how many machines I can install on at one time. This is not the same.

You can install FCPX as many time you wish
