L655-S5117 No audio

I have a L655-S5117 Satellite lap-top (PSK2CU-0HP01S) with the audio icon having a red X on it.  Read through these forums and tried windows restore to and earlier point thinking it might have been from an update.  No success.  When I go to the deivice manager to click on the audio device the line for Sound device is not found anywhere.  Change the setting to show hidden devices still no Sound device listed.
I have Windows 7 (64 bit)
Also tried to do a proper sytem reser read in a previous post.  no success.
Read other forums--downloaded drivers for Conexant audio 4.119.0.60 and they will not install.  Assuming they wouldn't because it cannot detect a Sound device.  Any suggestions?  Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you!

  • Satellite L655-S5117 Audio Issue

Hello, I just completed a system restore on a Toshiba Satellite L655-S5117, and I have no audio via the main speakers, however audio works fine via a pair of headphones. I am running windows 7 Home Premium. What do I need to do to get audio working via the main speakers?

Try reinstalling the latest sound driver:

  • L655-S5117's (2) will not recognize Vivitar DVR1240HD but other pc's do

My son and daughter both have L655-S5117's. Both are in good working order, kept updated and well maintained. Both have Win7 64bit home premium. Both have Microsoft wireless mouses occupying one of the two USB slots with no other peripherals. For all intents and purposes I consider both units to be identical.
Yesterday my daughter bought a Vivitar DVR1240HD video camera. We take it out of the package, follow the directions by plugging it in and turning it on. It installs 2 drivers, one specifically for the camera and one related to USB. Go to look for it as the E: drive Removable Drive, o reven as the name of the camera, and it's not recognized.
Unplug the camera and reboot...plug the camera in and power it up...still doesn't see it.
Take the camera to my wife's A505 (win7 64bit home premium, well maintained, updated, etc etc) and plug it in/turn it on...BAM...drivers load, interface pops up to open/view the contents just like any usb storage device would.
Take the camera to my desktop (non-Toshiba brand, Win7 64 bit home premium), plug it in/turn it on...BAM...drivers loaded and I can see it as expected.
Lastly, take the camera to my son's L655 and plug it in...result: can't see the device (camera).
From my perspective (and please let me know if you think it's wrong) the camera and the drivers work as they should. So what I'm trying to figure out why both laptops of the same model and configuration can't see the camera as a usb mass storage device but two other computers can. Is there something I can, or should, do to reconfigure the USB side of things on her laptop to make this work correctly? All the USB related drivers appear up-to-date when I check them.It looks as though the camera shuts off when the usb connection is made...isn't there a checkbox that prevents that port from shutting off? I saw a link in these forums for some troubleshooting tips related to USB issues. I plan to try them tonight.
Oh, and just for the sake of sanity, I plugged in a known-good, frequently used thumbdrive into the same port as the camera and the drivers loaded and the device was recognized in a matter of a few moments.
Thanks in advance for any guidance/support/suggestions you might have to offer. I'd love to resolve this so my daughter can make better use of the camera she's been saving up for for a long time.
Edit: I forgot to mention that the camera installs the Chicony USB 2.0 driver (?) as it shows up as an imaging device in Device Manager. I also noticed an additional USB device in the USB section of Device Manager. These two new additions appear on every computer I tried.

Could you repeat that question one more time?  Do you what to know "why", or how to fix it?

  • Someone please help this Audio Shuttering is driving me crazy.

Everytime I listen to music or watch video on my Satelite L655-S5083 the audio and video shutter and a loud buzzing sound happens.  It doesn't matter if its streaming from the internet or already on the computer via hard drive or CD/DVD the buzzing and shuttering happens in both senarios.  According to the computer the audio and display drivers are up to date and performing properly. Any ideas out there...Peter....anyone?

You should only be using the drivers from your model's Toshiba download site. Toshiba laptops are notoriously finicky about using only Toshiba supplied hardware drivers. For this reason, I recommend disabling automatic updates and only doing manual updates. Click on 'Start - All Programs - Windows Update', on the menu at left click on 'Change settings', under 'Important updates' click on the drop down menu at right, choose 'Never check for updates (not recommended)', and click 'OK'. Then only do manual updates, check them very carefully, and never let Windows Update change any hardware drivers. Though you should still regularly check for updates.
Next, let's try to reinstall your core set of drivers. Download these drivers to your desktop and double click to install them in this order:
    Intel Chipset SW Installation Utility
    Intel Display Driver
    Conexant Audio Driver
Please let us know if this resolves your problem.

  • Harddrive going bad?

i bought a toshiba L655-s5117 a few weeks ago from best buy, and today when i was using it i noticed a very low pulsing high pitched noise coming form the harddrive, i never heard it before, and its pretty annoying. everything runs perfectly fine though, and the health monitor says HD is good. should i send it in for a repair or is this normal?

I actually don't have anything I need to save. The harddrive was new, and I had not gotten around to putting anything important on it.
The problem is time is exactly what I care about. I have taken this ibook apart so many times to install various pieces of hardware, that I really don't want to see the belly of beast ever again.
I'm currently reinstalling OSX 10.4 again and it is taking a very very long time. Does this indicate the harddrive is bad? Would I be able to install OSX on a bad harddrive?

  • Satellite L655-S5157 - audio on MAX is barely audible

I've checked all the volumes, main control, all other controls, and volume on the apps I'm using.  I've also read other posts on the subject, and no, this model does not have a physical audio dial (unless it's hiding under a plastic cover I can't identify.)  I also have the latest Conexant driver (checked that through Device Manager)  As far as I can tell, the sound on this laptop just stinks.  This cannot be as good as it gets.

I found the SmartAudio settings - It's ok now but only by turning up the equalizer to full on all ten settings.  Is that the "answer"?

  • Satellite L655 S5107 Audio stutters and it also crashes

I'm having similar problems like a lot of people I think, where my laptop has audio stutters, but mines also freezes and then crashes. This happens when I'm listening to music or watching videos. I've tried updating drivers and disabling them and enabling again, but the problem still persists. I don't know what else to do, if anyone knows I would really appreciate the help, thank you.

You might want to share that information on the appropriate forum.

  • Satellite L655 - Sound not working on fresh install of Windows 7 Pro x64

    Howdy all,
I purchased an L655-S5111 from Newegg that was on sale, put an SSD into it, and then installed a legitimate copy of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit I received from my current employer (I'm an IT guy). I've updated to the latest BIOS revision (1.70), and I've got all Windows updates installed, all drivers installed, including the correct Conexant HD Audio and ATI HDMI Audio drivers. Unfortunately, sound does not work. Sound worked briefly when I first installed Windows 7, then I muted it until I could get it set up with headphones. When I unmuted it, it had ceased to work.
This laptop is less than 3 weeks old at this point, and I get no audio over headphones or speakers, although Windows clearly shows no issues with the drivers, they're the latest version, on a fresh install, and I can see the audio in the mixer playing. The microphone built-in to the laptop does pick up sound as well. I believe that this is most likely not an issue of physical interconnection, but more likely a software level issue, I'm just having trouble identifying where it is at.
I also have no related error messages anywhere in the event logs.

I have two problems with installing the recovery image:
    1) I didn't get a copy of the recovery media with the system
    2) The recovery media would install Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit which is what came with the laptop.
Since I have legitimately licensed copies of Windows 7 Pro/Enterprise 64-bit, I would much rather install that. Since I used the drivers and software from the Toshiba website for this particular model, it should be working. There should be no functional difference between the recovery media and a fresh Windows install from the Microsoft-provided Windows media and Toshiba provided drivers from their website.
As you can see in the sysinfo (I'm assuming Keany the respondent is the admin that approved my post and edited it, thus had access to the data which was removed) I have all the Toshiba software and drivers installed, identically to if this was the recovery image, I just have it on a different edition of Windows 7.
I'm open to any other suggestions, but unfortunately it is not possible to do the above.

  • Toshiba Satellite L655-S51117 VGA Port Question

I have a Toshiba Satellite L655-S51117 with an Intel Graphics HD Video Card. There is no HDMI port on the laptop but I wanted to purchase a VGA to HDMI cable to connect to my LCD TV but it says the Video Card must support digital signal ouput through the VGA port. Does this particular card support digital signal output? I just want to be sure before I purchase go ahead and purchase the cable.

I Got a laptop Satellite L655 for Xmas and I want to use it for my karaoke but I can't get it to work.  I bought a new 15 pin to the RED, YELLOW and WHITE   and S-Video  cord but it won't work.   My Old Laptop had A S-Video on the back and it worked fine.  So how do I get this Laptop hooked up to my TV?   It's an older TV but it has the red, yellow, white,   and the S-video  hook ups. Please any help on this?   Yelsi

Audio would be stereo taken from the headphone port via a seperate cable to the converter box. It doesn't look like that machine has digital audio out, so no surround or whatever is possible.

  • Satellite L655 - Unable to download drivers

I'm trying desperately to reinstall a Satellite L655 and getting snookered in all directions.
    1. I created recovery disks from the installation on the old, failing hard drive. When I install from these (after watching paint dry for about an hour) it reboots and then fails on first run - "windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware". Forum suggestions about this error did not help.
    2. The support partners in South Africa do not have copies of the factory recovery disks. They tell me they download drivers ad hoc from the support site.
    3. I tried to clone the old disk (Windows is running on it, after all) but CloneZilla barfed on the bad sectors.
    4. I installed Windows from a Microsoft OEM install disk image. It runs, but obviously requires hardware drivers. So I downloaded most of those I need, like LAN card, Intel Chipset, and Sound card. But the WLAN and Display drivers just won't download - these are the largest files (60 MB & 123 MB respectively) and the downloads fail before completion. WELL before completion. I tried several times, using up a significant amount of my bandwidth allocation for the month (we have capped access here in Darkest Africa!)
I tried the downloads from another site I have remote access to, thinking maybe there was something wrong with my broadband - and got the same exact issue. The remote site has Internet throughput speeds of around 6 Mb/s - surely enough for a 120 MB file transfer? Apparently not.
I have tried these downloads from before lunch time, through the afternoon and night and it's now after midnight, all with the same results (I am on a time zone that is right in the middle of the Euro zones).
Toshiba's website does not support download resuming, and there are no mirror sites. What in the blue blazes is a person supposed to do?
    *UPDATE*
the 60 MB WLAN driver download to remote site succeeded on the second try. The 120 MB display adaptor driver failed even sooner on second try. I don't see much point in trying again, do you?

    Hello Chris
Clean OS installation is very simply and I have done it in the past many times. If your Internet connection is stabile all necessary drivers, tools and utilities can be downloaded from Toshiba download page - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
Ive checked it and your Satellite model is listed there and supported for Win7 64bit.
WLAN driver you can find on Toshiba WLAN portal - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/
As I already wrote on Toshiba download page you can find all drivers, tools and utilities. The same stuff is included in original Toshiba recovery image. Maybe you don't need some of them but I recommend you to install whole package.
Here is also install order that will help you:
    Win7 64bit
    TOSHIBA Assist
    Synaptics Touch Pad Driver
    Realtek Card Reader
    TOSHIBA HW Setup Utility
    TOSHIBA Supervisor Password Utility
    TOSHIBA Web Camera Application
    TOSHIBA HDD_SSD Alert
    TOSHIBA Disc Creator
    Intel Chipset SW Installation Utility
    Intel Management Engine Interface
    Display Driver
    Intel Turbo Boost Technology Driver
    Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver
    Conexant Audio Driver
    TOSHIBA Value Added Package
    Atheros LAN Driver
    TOSHIBA Software Modem
    Conexant Modem Driver
Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba
    Wireless LAN Driver
    ConfigFree
My advice for you: download all stuff at first and save it on USB stick. After doing this reinstall Windows again and start to install listed stuff following this installation order.
One more thing: according notebook specification your machine should have Realtec WLAN card inside.
If you have more questions you are welcome.

  • L655-S5098RD Microphone not working

I've only used my computer's internal microphone a couple of times, but it USED to work perfectly. Most of the times I've needed a microphone, I've used the one on my headset.
My headset quit working today, so I tried to use the internal microphone, but windows is telling me it's UNPLUGGED??
I've tried re-installing the drivers (Conexant Audio Driver(v4.119.0.60; 07-14-2010; 41.89M), but that didn't change anything.

After looking around at downloads for my computer, I found this one:
    ACPI Flash BIOS version 2.70 for Satellite L655 (PSK2CU/PSK2GU)(v2.70; 05-21-2012; 13.75M)
and installing it seemed to fix the problem.

  • Satellite L655-S5150 Mic problem.

Waiting for a response - ray
When I try to record video / sound with my lap, the first pieces of sound comes clear but after 5 seconds or so, the sound goes down, when I want to record myself playing guitar, I can only hear the first 10 seconds, after that the mic "adapts" to the sound or something and lowers itself down, so the sound of the recording starts going down until it mutes and only lets very hard sounds get in the recording.
    Sorry for my English,

Reinstalling your Toshiba supplied sound driver is a good place to start and should not hurt anything. Download this file to your desktop and double click to install it.
    Conexant Audio Driver(v4.119.0.60)
But, the proper method is really going to depend on the sound recording software you are using. What software are you using to record yourself playing guitar?  Are you only recording through a microphone?  Are you using the computer's built-in microphone?

  • Unable to capture audio

    Hi,
Last week I updated the drivers for my Blackmagic Multibridge extreme. Now when I try to capture the material in FinalCutPro 5.1.4 I can see the picture, hear the sound on my monitors (they are connected directly to Multibridge), but the captured material doesn't have sound, because it takes the sound from the internal audio input. I tried to capture from Blackmagic Deck Control (an external application) and it works fine, it captures with sound. So I suspect I have to change the audio input in FCP, but dont know where. In audio/video settings in FCP everything is set to DeckLink (Multibrige extreme).
    Where is the problem?
    Thanks,
    Simon

    Thanks for the reply.
Looking at system preferences I found that audio input was set microphone. Don't know how it happened. I switched it to DeckLink and now FCP displays 16 input channels in Log and Capture dialog. I didn't try to capture yet but I think it solved the problem, because before I had only two channels displyed.

  • Unable to capture audio from BlackMagic HD Extreme via Voice Over tool

    Hi !
I'm trying to capture audio via my BlackMagic HD Extrem card using the Voice Over tool in FCP6, but I can't, no audio is incoming.
I can ingest audio with video using log and capture, then I know my card and my cables are working.
I tried to set the BM card as audio input in my Audio's System Prefereces Pane, but it isn't working either.
I've been looking on the BM website, but I found nothing.
    Can you help me ?
    Thx
