L675D Windows 8.1 Display Fix (Can't adjust brightness in settings charm)

I performed a clean install of Windows 8.1 Professional 64-bit (courtesy Dreamspark), and I noticed that I could not adjust the brightness setting using the "Settings" charm or in the control panel (in the charms-bar the brightness setting was greyed out).  My exact model is L675D-S7013, and the specification states that the laptop has an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 Graphics [card].  The "Automatically Detect and Install Your Driver" tool (from their website: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download) was unsuccessful, so I instead downloaded the Windows 8 x64 AMD software at: http://www2.ati.com/drivers/legacy/13-1-legacy_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc.exe and installed it using the defaulted options and it seems to be working fine.  It also fixed the screen resolution.  Note that this was done after installing all available updates from Windows Update.

Some here with Windows 8.1 would kill to downgrade to Windows 7! Read the messages.

Can you upgrade from 1.3.0.20 small ovf to 2.1 without migrating to a new server? It sounds like you can just adjust the server settings now. I am currently running 1.3.0.20 and I have enough to do with also needing to upgrade my wlc to 7.4.121.0 and getting the MSE up to 7.4.121.0 without having to stand up a new server if I don't have to. Please share any information you have in regards to your experience with coming from a version 1.2-1.3 small ovf and going to 2.1.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

You are better off standing up a new server.  It's cleaner and safer..... you can always try to upgrade if you wish, but if things don't work out well, then you just wasted a lot of time.  Snapshot the VM and export the floor plans, just in case.  The ova is built around the DB size, so I don't know how well the DB will perform if you try to expand memory or drive space after an upgrade.

  • How,can,I,adjust,the,camera,settings,on,my,2009,Mac,to,16:9,format?

I want to use the camera on my 2009 iMac to shoot some footage for a video project. The project is in 16:9 wide screen. How can I adjust the camera to shoot in this format?

Thanks for letting us know your questions was answered!  A few other thoughts....
RobertofLadywellVillage wrote: ...the video from the i-sight camera is still in 4:3 format so I suppose that it simply can't produce video in  16:9...
True, the viewed camera image is always 4:3 with your old iMovie 6 HD, but experiment a bit.
Some of the iMovie 6 video formats you can select when you create your iSight clips in the separate iSight project can create a 16:9 frame.  That frame will contain your 4:3 iSight image but be filled out to 16:9 with symmetrical black bars on the left and right sides of the image.  These clips will be importable into your widescreen project.  Although the portions recorded on your iSight will contain the black bars that keep the 16:9 aspect ratio you need, you should be able to include both the iSight captured video and your other video clips in the same 16:9 final product.
If you have a 16:9 digital cameras that can record the clips, use that to get the format you need and better image quality than iSight can provide.
However, if you really need to record 16:9 iSight video, and if your Mac has QuickTime Player (version 10.x), try using QTX.  After you open a "New Movie Recording" window, QTX can change camera recording aspect ratios by using its Preference controls as shown in this image of the :
If you really need to use an iSight to capture widescreen video that is not block-filled, another option would be to use a later iMovie version that can record widescreen views of your inbuilt camera. I use iMovie '11 to do this, but, if you don't already have later versions, be sure to check System Requirements for later iMovies before you buy to see if they can work with your Mac OS version.

  • Can not adjust brightness and minimize and maximize the screen with Fn keys

I have bought a HP 15-D006TU laptop 1 week back. f2 and f3 for adjusting brightness and f4 to minimize and maximize the screen are not working. I am also trying to install the Hotkey driver which is mostly suggested here. but the version available is not supported. Can anyone help me out in this case?

    Hi NIdisha,
Thank you for your post, I will do my best to assist you.
I understand that you are experiencing an issue with the brightness and the  fn keys. When I looked up the specifications, I see it came with FreeDos. I am providing you  links, to the software and driver page for your computer,HP 15-d006tu Notebook PC Drivers  and Frequently Asked Questions About FreeDOS (FAQs).  Please note the compatible keyboard driver. I would suggest you uninstall and reinstall the drivers for the keyboard. I am also providing you a document on Notebook Keyboard Troubleshooting (Windows 8), that may assist you.  If you would like furhter assistance, please let me know if you are still running  FreeDos, or have changed the operating system.
     I hope this has helped.

  • Windows 8.1 Bootcamp wont Sleep or adjust Brightness

Hey Guys, I installed windows 8.1 via bootcamp onto my 2013 rMBP, 16gig Ram, Upgraded Processor, and I have two issues with it. 1. I cannot adjust my screen brightness, which is manageable but annoying. 2. It wont go to sleep. There isnt an option anywhere to adjust brightness or put it to sleep. The only option are to hibernate, shut down, or do nothing. It seems as though the sleep function just isnt available, nor is the brightness. I feel like thse two things may be connected, but I wasnt sure. I have browsed some threads, but nobody seems to have a find for 8.1 or these problems yet. When I try to sleep my computer (i.e. close the lid) it just shuts down, and I have to hold option to power up back into windows. If anyone has a solution, please do let me know:) Thanks!! Also I'm running mavericks fully updated, the newest bootcamp software and the newest bootcamp drivers, AND windows is fully updated.

I have the same issue. Any luck miller? When I close the lid on my Macbook, i have to power back up and use the OPTION key to get back to Windows 8.1. This issue just started after updating to Mavericks...
My brightness control does work fine.

  • Lenovo z570 and Fedora 15 - can not adjust brightness.

When I installed fedora 15 on lenovo ideapad z570 all goes ok. but I can not adjust screen brightness. I updated kernel twice upto 3.0.1 but still problem persists.
    Please give me a solution.

This is a known bug in the power manager logic within fedora 15. They are testing the package before it makes officially to the repository.
If you want to try it, out run the following command in the bash shell
    su -c 'yum --enablerepo=updates-testing update gnome-power-manager'
Also try to disable screen dimming via the control center. Hope this helps you out
    Cheers and regards,

  • Many websites are not displayed properly, overlapping words etc., can I adjust the browser settings?

Lots of sites do not appear properly, ie words and characters overlap, pop ups not complete.

Reset the page zoom on websites that look wrong: "View > Zoom > Reset" (Ctrl + 0 (zero))
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Zoom_text_of_web_pages
If you increased the minimum font size then try a lower setting (default is none) as a too high value can cause issues like you described.<br />

  • L520 - Can't adjust brightness

Another problem on my Lenovo Thinkpad L520:
After installing the Lenovo Power Management Driver, I can no longer adjust the LCD brightness by using the FN+DEL/POS1 keys.
Immediately after adjusting the brightness, it gets reverted to its old value, set in the Power Management software.
I tried the Windows 7 driver (1.65.05.21) and the WIndows XP/7/8 driver (1.66.0.22), both with the same result.
This is really annoying and I am very frustrated with Lenovo right now, since this is not the only problem I am having with the laptop.
I tried calling the customer support, where an automated message directed me to their support forum.
Does anyone here have a solution for this?

The same happened to me on a L520 5016-C74 (Win7X64).
I was able to resolve it without losing the functionality of the Power manager.
    The steps are as follows:
    1) If you have used the System Update utility, you will need to download from "Softare and Utility" the "Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit), 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bit), XP (32-bit, 64-bit) and 2000 - ThinkPad".
    2) Install the Utility, update everything it suggests, and install whatever component you might miss from the four available (Lenovo Patch Utility, On Screen Display, ThinkPad Full Screen Magnifier, Lenovo system Interface Driver)
    3) The installer will ask you to reboot. Comply.
    4) Rerun the Installer (it will be placed in C:\DRIVERS\HOTKEY\Setup.exe)
    5) Select the second option "Uninstall currently installed....)
    6) Select to uninstall ONLY the "Lenovo system Interface Driver"
    7) Reboot again and try the luminosity keys. You will not have OSD though, but everything else works, full functionality of function keys and Power Management with no problems.
Please let me know if this worked in your case.

  • W10 can't adjust brightness

That is the video driver. Go into control panel and see what display adapter is installed. If it is something called Microsoft Basic we need to get you a proper video driver.

  • My iMac will not play through it's speakers. Also, can't adjust the sound settings because it shows as non changeable.

When I press any of the sound keys on my keyboard (mute, louder, quieter), the normal thing on the bottom pops up when you change the volume using the keyboard keys. However, the speaker icon appears dark gray with a slash through it. The volume shows all the way up, but below the volume there is a little circle with a slash through it. When I went to Sound under System Preferences, I could not change anything. It all appeared as if there was no setting for that option. For example, I couldn't check or uncheck any of the boxes under 'Sound.' I don't know what the problem is. I have researched it and seen other problems similar to this, but I can't find a good, valid answer as of what will fix this problem. Please help!  Thanks!

Could be one of 2 problems. Is there an optical cable plugged in to the headphone jack?
If not it seems you have the same problem as I had. My iMac got put in for repair and they damaged a little switch in the headphone jack, if it's under Applecare they will fix it. If not carefully try a cotton bud (Q-tip in America) in the port.

  • Can't Adjust Brightness Using F1 and F2 Keys

My MBP was having difficulties starting up today (stalling at the grey screen w/ the Apple symbol) so I ran Disk Utility to repair, and everything seemed to be fine.
But now all the pre-set function keys are working save the F1 and F2 keys. I've tried pressing the fn keys before, but I am still not able to adjust the brightness. I also tried resetting the PRAM, but that did no good either. Currently, all the other function keys are doing their pre-set commands -- I didn't change any of them. What can I do to get the F1 and F2 keys working again?
    Thanks!

My guess is that something you've installed is playing havoc with your system. When you reinstalled Lion you probably didn't do a clean install, thus the problem continued. Try creating a new user, then work in that acoount for a while. If the problem stops, you know the problem exists in your user account only. If the problem continues, its system wide and will require  a clean install and reinstallation of your software.
