L775S7248 W7 stuck in recovery disk twilight zone,

 everyday is something new. HD failed last Oct, Toshiba covered it, lasted maybe 6 months and out of coverage, Buy new WD hard drive and thought I'd make a clean start without Toshibas karma and installed windows 7 SP1 from an .ISO file. input windows key but it says it's incorrect (re-input it exactly and still says the same thing) every  adaptor  for internet access has no drivers loaded or available, and the recommendation is go to the manufacturer web site and downlaod them (wtf, if I could do that I wouldn't have this problem would I)  so I fool around and decide to use the 5 disk recovery set I made, #1 and 2 disk take quite awhile the #3 short cycles and asks for next disk, #4 lasts 30 seconds and asks for next, #5 lasts 30 seconds and asks for next disk ... wtf? Theres only 5, now it's stuck on recovery regardless of what disk, if any, is in the drive. I'd like to thank Toshiba for their outstanding product (it really stands out) and their support site that even with the model number input the driver/updates are for multiple OS systems and models and the results do not specify what they are for, this laptop has enough internal quirks without being fed drivers/update for the incorrect OS/model. If someone can actually help it would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou

I'm sorry to hear about the problems. The support site lists all possible drivers. You still have to choose the appropriate one.
I'd recommend you try the discs again. If they still behave the same, there's obviously some problem. You could try ordering replacement recovery media or there could be some other problem that could require servicing.

  • Help my iphone 4s is stuck on recovery mode then died and when I try to charge it, it wont start up. I also plugged it up to my computer to restore it and it gave me an error message about the disk. What do I do ?!

    I have an iphone 4s that used to be jailbroken but I want to restore it (cause I want to update ios). It was stuck on a recovery loop but it died eventually. I plugged it up and waited 30 minutes but when I came back it was still black and wont turn on. I plugged it to my computer and it told me it is stuck in recovery mode and the only way to fix it is to restore it. So when it was only aproximently 95% done it said that the disk had a problem. When I try to restore it again it says the same message. What do I do!!!?

    What disk had a problem, and what was the exact verbiage of the error? For a phone that has been jailbroken, it is very difficult to remove the jailbreak, so it may not work. Also, the discussion of jailbroken devices is not allowed here on the forum. You'll need the exact error to get help.

    {1} As per only instructions on the back of the recovery disk case; I power up while holding the "C" key.
    {2} The disk boots a dos session and text pops up for a full system restore ( F1 to continue, F2 to cancel )
    {3} I press F1.
    {4} A text warning screen pops up about losing all data when formatting the hard drive ( C to continue, A to abort )
    {5} I press C
    {6} 2 or 3 seconds later my laptop reboots to the dos session in step {2}, there are no warnings or messages, just an endless loop of this "recovery" software asking me to press F1 and C to continue.
    I have multiple *nix live cds and can partition and format this new drive to anything this recovery cd needs, but there is NO documentation about this rcovery disk other than power up while holding the "C" key.

    Some more details about this UNSOLVED failure in the recovery discs code.
    {step 2 screen is:}
    Welcome to the Toshiba Recovery utility.
    This process will restore the original default system install on your hard drive.
    Note that the current contents of your hard drive will be erased and replaced by the default system install.  You should back up your system before continuing.
    By selecting OK, you are accepting the terms of the Microsoft end-user license agreement that appears in the Windows License Agreement Setup Screen.
    F1 = OK, F2 = Cancel
    {step 3 I press F1}
    {Breifly followed by:}
    The recovery is in progress, please wait
    {step 4 screen is:}
    (ascii graphic of Xs spelling out "Warning")
    Continuing with this process will erase the current contents of your hard disk drive and replace them with the original default system install.  To proceed:
    1. Ensure that the recovery CD/DVD is in the CD/DVD drive.
    2. Keep the CD/DVD in the drive until you are asked to remove it.
    If you do not want to erase the contents of your hard isk drive then press 'A' to abort.
    To continue press (C), To abort press (A)...[C,A}?
    {and then it reboots and starts over again about 3 seconds after pressing "C"}
    The new hard drive works perfectly; it is not the problem.  I can install and uninstall ubunto on it with zero problems.
    I was also able to install / uninstall Windows2000pro from an actual real w2k install disc (not a crapfest recovery disc)
    While running w2k I can put the Toshiba WinXPhome recovery DVD in the drive and it will autorun its GUI.
    Pressing the about button on the recovery GUI pops up:
        Satellite P30, P35 Windows XP Home PIRAD DVD -v1.1
        Toshiba Recovery and Applications CD
        Version 1.1.1.26 Copyright (c) 1997-2002 Toshia America
    The Recovery GUI gives the option of installing individual applications (NO, WinXP is not listed among the applications); or doing a complete system restore.
    When complete restore is selected, a warning about data loss appears and it asks that a confirm button be pressed before pressing finish.
    After these buttons arre pressed the Recovery GUI and W2K shut down and the system reboots into the text screen rebooting loop described above.

  • Recovery disk installation progress seems stuck?

    I have an HP Pavillion desktop whose hard drive completely died so it was not possible to boot from the recovery partition stored on it. I replaced the hard drive and ordered the recovery discs from HP. Three discs arrived: two system recovery discs for 32-bit Vista and one supplemental recovery disc.
    I got through the two system recovery discs after many hours. Now it's at the point where it's able to boot without the recovery discs and is supposedly copying files in to place. The only problem is that on the screen is the Windows animation of file copying (the two folders with pieces of paper flying between them) but no hard drive activity. Considering how long the system discs took to complete I let it sit over night. This morning when I woke up it was still in that state. If I use Alt-Tab to see what's running there are two Command Prompt processes and the "Progresso" process. I can't switch to any other process to see if there are any error messages, only the flying folders will be shown.
    It should not take as long as it has to restore the operating system on this computer (it has been running all weekend). Is there any way to tell if it's making progress and/or any other diagnostic information?

    Hi:
    I don't know what the issue is or how to fix it, but it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes to an hour at most to recover the PC using the recovery disks.

  • Mac formatted ipod stuck in recovery mode when rescuing tunes onto a PC

    Hi
    I have an ipod Nano (6gb) that is Mac formatted. I tried to recover the tunes from it to a PC desktop with Xplay. It started ok and then the ipod entered into recovery mode so it could be reformatted for Windows (I think itunes started doing it).
    At that moment I couldn’t recover my tunes. Now whenever I use Xplay again it says "not accessible. The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable.” So it’s stuck in recovery mode.
    I know the tunes are still on the ipod because the amount of disk space taken up hasn’t changed, despite the ipod not actually showing the songs on the UI.
    How can I fix this so I can grab all the tunes off the ipod before I restore the ipod in itunes and thus effectively formatting it?
    Cheers,

  • Cannot recover Windows 8.1 from recovery disks

    Hi
    I have a Windows 8.1 laptop (recovery disks are for Windows 8, see product details in image 1).
    My laptop mouse left click suddenly started acting as right click, the computer froze and started making a noise, and when I restarted it using the power button it got stuck in the automatic repair loop. I tried all the options F8, F9, F10 and nothing worked. Then I did a disk check by pressing F2 and it failed (see image 2).
    Following that I used my recovery disks and I got the message - destination drive not connected (see image 3).
    Is my hard disk corrupted and need to be replaced? I am in UK but I bought the laptop in India.
    Also, if I am able to use the recovery disks, I'll get W8 and not W8.1, which is what I had. How can I recover to W8.1 directly?
    Thanks

    Short DST:Fail > means the hard drive has failed and will have to be replaced. You can use your Recovery Discs on a new hdd. Just be sure to get one of at least equal capacity as original.
    If the laptop shipped with Windows 8 there is no way to directly recover to Windows 8.1.

  • I am unable to Install windows xp with recovery disks.

    I have a Toshiba’s Satellite Pro S300-10J laptop Model#PSSB0E-02H00FDU. Some days back its operating system got corrupted. I have its recovery disks(windows Xp)  and now I am trying to reinstall the windows by using recovery disks but unable to do so. Actually when I insert disk 1 it start installation process and then prompt for 2nd disk and when I insert 2nd disk it starts unpacking software image process. At the end it shows a pop up box with the following information.
    Info:
                    Done(Files:28339/28339 Folders: 2558/2558).
                    Please remove the recovery medium!
                                                    |OK|
    As I remove the 2nd disk and press ok and then exit it goes shut down instead of rebooting. When I press power button to on it then it goes stuck on windows startup with a message of please wait .
    Please support that how can I get rid of this situation and can restore operating system with recovery disk.

    I made another attempt but nothing goes productive.
    One thing is clear that the recovery disks are ok because a few months back I used same disks to refresh my notebook and did it without any error.
    There might be a chance of bios setting because in my absence my sister and her friend tried to install windows and I doubt her friend made some changes in bios but she says that she didn’t made any change except boot priority and during installation got the error.
    I have already rest the bios setting to default and in SATA CONTROLLER MODE I changed it from AHCI into IDE.
    With recovery disks of XP Installation starts and after image loading it doesn’t restart just goes shut down and upon restarting just stop responding/hang up on startup.
    I tried with another CD of XP and during installation when system restarts setup continues on ‘INSTALLING WINDOWS’ with the message that ‘Setup will complete in approximately 35 minutes ‘Installing devices’ and at this stage it hanged up. Finally it shows blue screen with an error like

    On several attempts the result remains same.

  • IPod touch stuck in recovery mode after iOS 6 update error 6

    I wanted to sync my iPod touch with my Mac last night, when iTunes tried to sell me on the iOS 6 update.  I told it to go ahead with the update, and left it alone to do its thing.  When I checked again, it told me the update had failed with error 6, and that I might need to restore my iPod.  The only info I've found about error 6 pertains to Windows security software, and that clearly does not apply to my case.
    The iPod is now stuck in recovery mode, and none of the my googling has changed that.  I have tried the various patterns of power and home keys, and have also tried downloads that were supposed to force the iPod out of recovery mode.  How exactly does an update brick a device?  Now I don't mind restoring the iPod, but I need to get my data back.  Loosing the data is not acceptable.  This is not a jailbreak attempt.  I just want my data back, and I don't mind going low-level to get it (i.e. terminal, dd, scripts, ...).  Pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

    I was able to extract my data and copy it to a disk image with the help of http://code.google.com/p/iphone-dataprotection/wiki/README.  This process is really only appropriate for developers, I regret to say, but for developers the process is reasonably robust.  I still had to read between the lines in one or two places, and make good use of the shell, but I am delighted to have retrieved my data from my iPod.
    A lower priority question for me is whether to try to collect my notes and contacts from the assorted .sqlitedb files.  It looks like iFunBox may come in handy if I try to push things back onto the iPod once I restore it.
    For anyone who cares to know, my iPod Touch decided to listen on port 2000 instead of port 2222, my /dev/rdisk0sXsY devices had different numbers than expected by dump_data_partition.sh, and I had to find my keychain-2.db file in /mnt2/Keychains on the data filesystem.  But it worked, and that's awesome.

  • Iphone 3g stuck in recovery mode(error 14) after failed 3.2.1 update

    My Iphone is stuck in recovery mode after it failed to update to operating system 3.2.1 . When I press restore in itunes, the process stops at around the 20% mark and come up with error 14. I have already manually deleted and redownloaded the update 4 times, reinstalled itunes twice and created a new user on my pc and downloaded and update through this new user and disabled all security but I still keep getting the same error message. My pc is only six months old. I successfully updated the phone to operating system 3.1 a few months ago with no problems. Has anyone found a way to fix this?? This is ridiculous!!

    This is the only way to make sure you've uninstalled itunes completely:
    1. Restart your computer.
    2. After the computer restarts, open Local Disk (C:) located in Computer or whichever hard disk your programs are installed on.
    3. Open the Program Files folder.
    4. Right-click the iTunes folder, choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Note: This folder may have already been deleted if iTunes was successfully removed.
    5. Right-click the iPod folder, choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    6. Right-click the QuickTime folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    7. Right-click the Bonjour folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    8. Open the Common Files folder.
    9. Right-click the Apple folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    10. Open Local Disk (C:) located in Computer or whichever hard disk your operating system is installed on.
    11. Open the Windows folder.
    12. Open the System32 folder.
    13. Right-click the QuickTime file (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    14. Right-click the QuickTimeVR file (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    15. Right-click the Recycle Bin and choose Empty Recycle Bin.

    Hello ValeryWildflowr,
    If the computer was working fine before you might just want to try a system restore. This should correct the problem without affecting any of your files.
    Here is a link for a system restore.

  • Satelite 1905-S301 Recovery Disk problems

    I've recently gotten a Satelite 1905-S301 that I wanted to take back to "out of box" so I ran the recovery disks 1 thru 3 of 3 and all was going well but on the 3rd disk it says it can't find/open file PREINS005.GHS (or close to that name from memory) every time and won't finish causing me to cancel out.  I searched the 3rd disk but didn't find the file, but it does have PREINS002.GHS.  I see the disk 2 has PREINS002, 003, 004 of the file.  So now I'm stuck in mid-install.  Could the recovery disk not have the correct file on it?  Shouldn't be a drive reading error since it completed the first two several times and the computer worked OK prior to resinstall.  Planning on abandoning the recovery and going to a new Windows install I have.  Thoughts?

    Make sure the CD or DVD disk is clean with no smudges or scratches.  Even the slightest imperfection can cause the recovery process to crap out.  If cleaning the disk doesn't help try making a copy of it on another system.  Copying it will often times solve the problem as the copy process will continue to attempt to read the information from a disk where the recovery process will halt as soon as it sees the slightest glitch.  Make sure that you burn the copied disk at the slowest possible speed to ensure an optimum burn and be sure to use GOOD quality blank media.
