L9 & new MP Quad Install Issues: Quartz Extreme capable card?

Hello - so I went for it and got a new Mac Pro and the L9 upgrade and the installer won't let me install it - it tells me that Logic Studio requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card. Anyone have any insight on how to fix this? Thanks!

What? A quad Nehalem has insufficient video capabilities??? That is beyond ridiculous.

  • FCS Compressor issues - Quartz Extreme not loading on headless XServe

    Hi,
I am running FCS on a OS X Leopard Server Intel XServe...installed a Quartz Extreme GPU (an old stock nVidia 7300 taken from a Mac Pro) to meet the specs. Everything worked fine. However I want to run the system headless - it is an XServe in a rack! Only problem is that without a monitor attached to the GPU, the XServe fails to acknowledge the existence of the GPU. Quartz Extreme does not load. Compressor will not launch if opened (explaining that I have no GPU!) and the automatic encodes from FCS come out as 0Mbyte .mov files. I admit I already knew about the issue of Final Cut Studio apps not running on a headless machine, even with a GPU installed. I just assumed Apple must have fixed this one for FCS because it is server software....I am guessing plenty of people must actually run FCS on headless machines....what's the trick to getting encoding to work?
    Thanks!
    Daniel

Depending on your xServe, you can just stick the dongle in the back and it should activate Quartz Extreme. You shouldn't have to install another graphics card. If you have an older xserve, you may have to hook up a monitor to the dongle.

  • Final cut pro requires you to have a quartz extreme graphics card

When I open Final Cut Pro, it says final cut pro requires you to have a quartz extreme graphics card. However, I have used the same thing for over a year already without any problems! Please help!
It's an iMac 27inch quad core late 2009

I bet you used Software update to download a few items recently (including a recent system update), and have not yet restarted your Mac. To confirm this, launch software update, and follow the instructions. Once you restart and the install completes, relaunch FCP, and you'll probably be good.
(I just did that to myself the other day).
    Hope it helps!

  • Quartz Extreme capable video card required

I have been running Final Cut Pro on my Mac Pro (MacPro1,1) for over a year but recently have been unable to open it due to a minimum system checks dialog box that tells me my system is not quartz extreme capable. I have been told that if I am running Snow Leopard, which I am (10.6.7), my system is quartz extreme compatible. I have read other posts that suggest using the esc key - this does not work for me. Other posts suggest changing the resolution down and up again, still no joy. Still other posts suggest changing the colour settings between millions and thousands - no such option exists for my system.
Any help would be appreciated as I would like to get FCP up and running ASAP. Thanks.
(On a side note, I have been having intermittent troubles with my current graphics card, ATI Radeon X1900 XT, overheating and crashing. Can i purchase a graphics upgrade kit form Apple such as the NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 or ATI Radeon HD 5770 and expect it to work correctly, I am having trouble locating an appropriate card for such an old machine, MacPro 1,1 as mentioned above.)

I'm not sure how many restarts I did - I did connect a different monitor in between - but i doubt that had anything to do with it. I have now installed a new graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 5770) and have not had any such trouble since.

  • Quartz Extreme Graphics Card Support FCE 3.5

    Newbie so bear with me...
I have a Dual 1 GHz PowerPC G4 so I went with FCE 3.5 thinking I had all the minimum requirements as advertised. When I went to install it did not highlight for install. I checked the more detailed requirements in the package and the only thing I'm lacking was the "AGP or PCI Express Quartz Extreme graphics card". In the System Profiler under graphics/displays I have:
    ATY,RADEON:
    Chipset Model: ATY,RADEON
    Type: Display
    Bus: PCI
    Slot: SLOT-2
    VRAM (Total): 32 MB
    Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
    Device ID: 0x5144
    Revision ID: 0x0000
    ROM Revision: 113-77701-124
    Displays:
    VA1930wm:
    Resolution: 1440 x 900 @ 60 Hz
    Depth: 32-bit Color
    Core Image: Software
    Main Display: Yes
    Mirror: Off
    Online: Yes
    Quartz Extreme: Not Supported
As you can see it says Quartz Extreme not supported for the Viewsonic 19" monitor that I currently have. Wondering if there is a way around this. Just bought new HD camera setup/new os/fce so I would like to not spend more money on a new monitor. Let me know, thanks in advance!

    Hi Tom,
There is no actual error message displayed - the Final Cut Express HD is not highlighted under Custom Install as shown in the screencapture below:
    http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y14/nstatom/fcpinstall.jpg
The manual claims that if something is not highlighted it does not meet the minimum requirements and the only thing I do not meet is the video card. Any ideas? Thanks again in advance.

  • "Motion requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card"

Today, I opened Motion after 3 weeks away from my computer. In mid-December, it worked fine. Today, Motion would not start, instead popping up a dialog box saying "Motion requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card."
Hmm. Nothing changed except maybe a Software Update over the past 3 weeks. After a few panicky minutes, I realized it was worth restarting the machine, and that fixed it.
Why did it happen? Probably because, before I left for a holiday, I unplugged my Cinema LED monitors (to save energy costs). When I returned to the machine today, plugged in their power cables and started working.
Somehow, Motion was triggered to protest that I didn't have the right display hardware, but, thankfully, a restart fixed the problem.

    Thanks for sharing...

  • Final Cut won't start sometimes, says I need a quartz extreme video card

Even though I have a quartz extreme capable video card and use Final Cut studio all the time, sometimes an error message will pop up and won't let me load any final cut application. The message is "Final cut pro recommends that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card."
I've tried deleting the preferences, and then running applejack. Sometimes it works, but right now I can't get it to load. I'm not even sure where to start troubleshooting this. Any advice would be much appreciated.
My software is all up to date.

No, I have FCE 4 - should have said that - and it worked on my older Intel based MacBook Pro.
As it turns out, though, I think I've solved the problem, adapting a solution to a related problem I found on MacRumors.com. Don't know why this is necessary, but here's the solution I tried:
    1. right click on the FCE application icon and select "Show Package Contents"
    2. open the "Contents" folder and then open the "info.plist" folder in Text Edit
    3. find the line that says: "<key>AELMinimumQuartzExtremeCapable</key>," and replace it with "<key>AELMinimumGeForceCapable</key>", and then make sure that the next line says "<string></string>" without any number specified. Or, if you have some other kind of graphics card that you know is compatible, you could say what that is instead of GeForce. I found it doesn't work just to delete this line completely.
Again, I don't know why Apple didn't build in this flexibility when they updated their standard Graphics cards, but in any case this solution seems to work.

  • Installing the airport extreme/bluetooth card

Are there any instructions available for installing this card in my Quad?
    TIA,
    Jay

    Apple says
...or you can add wireless capability post purchase1 by having an Apple Authorized Service Provider or a retail Apple Store install the AirPort Extreme with Bluetooth 2.0+EDR card for you. The AirPort Extreme with Bluetooth 2.0+EDR card is not a DIY (do-it-yourself) part.
Therefore your best bet is to get it installed by an Apple Authorized Service Provider or a retail Apple Store.
I am unable to find any instructions to do it yourself.

  • Need Quartz Extreme video card

I'm planning to resurrect my of MDD for my son but the video card need charging to improve the GUI lag.
At the moment I have an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro in my dual 867Mhz MDD but the GUI is sluggish and the video card doesn't support hardware accelerated Quartz Extreme, everything is handled by the CPUs.
    I am looking too replace the video card for something that will speed up the OS X GUI;
    Core Image: Hardware Accelerated
Does the ATI 9600 Pro support this?
Also what other video card options do I have? I've seen references to the Radeon X800 and GeForce 7800 GS but I'm just not sure.

    Hi,
Well the ATI 9800 Pro video card arrived yesterday morning and was easy to install. I instantly could see the GUI was smoother (but no where near my MacPro ATI Radeon HD 3870) but still choppy. And yes, the profiler said QE was supported with Core Image hardware acceleration, which is what I was looking for; less demand on the CPUs for rendering the GUI.
No drivers required, just slot the card in and away it goes. There was some ATI utilities to install but these were not required to make it work, I think.
    RAM
I have 1.5gb RAM in the MDD, the memory is quite old now. Maybe its worth replacing it with some PC2700 spec RAM of today. I can't remember if the RAM is properly matched, so I'll look into that. RAM is cheap these days and four 512mb, crucial lists at $17.99 each.
    Boot Hard Disk
After replacing the RAM, maybe look at replacing the boot HD, its still running on the original drive from the factory. Maybe a SATA PCI card and have two RAID 0 (striped) boot drives, something like a FirmTek SeriTek/1S2 and a couple of 10,000rpm drives.
Question: Can I boot my PowerMac from a couple of striped drives using Apples software RAID? or will this be a backward step, maybe a cheap PCI Raid card would be a better option.
Question: Can you get a PCI SATA card that supports hardware RAID 0?
    Comment
Its kinda find doing all this with my old PowerMac, first time ever its received any kind of attention like this, well maybe just the Verax fans when I first I got this PowerMac in Sept 2002!

  • Mac mini 2012 new OWC SSD install issue

Hoping someone can makes sense of this report.
My macmini 2012 has been rock stable. 8 gig, Yosemite install.
Yesterday I installed an 120GB Electra 6G SSD as a second drive. Installed a fresh install of Yosemite. Everythign went without a hitch. System ran for 24 hours with non problems. Began installing my software and twice I came back to find the mini had rebooted under the original hard rive/system with a message that the computer had shutdown due to a hardware issue.
Checking Disk Utility the OWC SDD doesnt' even come up.
Rebooting it show shows up again, I can then select it as the start up drive and reboot with the SDD. Everything seems fine. Then a repeat several hours later.
This is the last report. Can someone translate? I don't know if I have a bad SDD, if it's a comptability/OS issue or if I possibly knocked something loose when reassembling. Thanks.

thanks the replies. OWC sold me the kit, cable etc based on the Macmini's specs. I talked with support and the drive I installed should work with no issues.
They did have me reset the PRAM which did. They also told me I might need to install Yosemite 'several times before is sticks' - whatever that means. lol.
Anyway I zapped the PRAM. So far no mysterious restarts with the drive being unrecognized.
One thing I didn't mention though...
MacMini is in a backyard home office (about a 100 feet away with buried CAT6 cable connecting it to the network). I was using Screen Share from my MBP reinstall all my work software. Every crash occurred while using screenshare. I never had any crashes when I was actually sitting at the computer.
I don't know if that has anything to do with it - but I haven't used ScreenShare for any length of time to control the Mac mini since the pram zap. Figured I'll use the computer for a week or so and see how stable it is and then try using screenshare again and see if the behavior repeats itself.
Meanwhile I'll keep my fingers crossed.
I'm just suspect that it was a PRAM issue. But I'm a layman.

  • FCE won't open on my new MacBook Pro - says I need a Quartz Extreme Card

I just bought a new MacBook Pro Laptop, and since I was having lots of hardware and software related problems with my old one, I clean installed everything rather than transferring things through archive.
Anyhow, I was initially able to register and install FCE from the original disk and then downloaded and installed all available upgrades. I opened it up, tried "Log and Transfer" to upload some video I'd shot on my Canon Vixia HFS10, and it worked fine. I saved and closed, but now, next morning when I tried to open FCE to edit my video it wouldn't open. A "Minimum System Check" came up that said "This system does not meet the following minimum requirements: Final Cut Express requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme Capable Video Card." I'm pretty sure that my NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT cards meet the requirements and that Final Cut Express just doesn't recognize that they are much better than the minimum requirements it is programmed to look for. How can I fix this? I saw another thread on a similar topic suggesting that someone delete their FCE, and then perform a clean install, but that's effectively what I've just gone through, and I'm not in the mood to spend a couple of hours seeing if the same thing I just did fixes the problem I have now. This seems like something that would be an easy programming fix, probably a simple modification to a preferences file, but I wonder if anyone out there has the solution?

Or, if you have some other kind of graphics card that you know is compatible, you could say what that is instead of GeForce. I found it doesn't work just to delete this line completely.
Again, I don't know why Apple didn't build in this flexibility when they updated their standard Graphics cards, but in any case this solution seems to work.

  • New GFX card, Quartz Extreme error, and suddenly FCP 6 will not run. Help me fix this problem please!

Model Name: Mac Pro Model Identifier: MacPro1,1 Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon Processor Speed: 3 GHz Number Of Processors: 2 Total Number Of Cores: 4 L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB Memory: 7 GB Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz
My old GFX card nVidia GeForce 7300GT which is busted.
I replaced it with a nVidia NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 from a Mac Pro of the same generation.
I'm now getting a Quartz Extreme error whenever I try to run Final Cut Pro 6 or Compressor. "This system does not meet the following minimum requirements: Final Cut Pro 6 requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card."
Well, I checked the specs of the card and it does support Quartz Extreme. So why isn't FCP 6 running?
Looking under the System Profiler > Graphics/Displays, it doesn't say the Cinema HD Display supports Quartz Extreme, but how could that be, because the Quadro 4500's specs online says it does?!! This was the better GFX card made for the same generation of Mac Pro but somehow doesn't work!
This is also effecting my DVD player App with an error: "A valid video device could not be found for playback: -70017". Which has never happened before either.
I've researched online and can't find anything that works.
The card has power running to it and the monitor is hooked into the closest DVI port to the logic board which most of people with the same problem have done to fix this. I've also gone into the Disk Utility and ran both Verify and Repair permissions and the same for the boot disk.
Nothing. I'm stumped. Short of trying to flash the ROM on the GFX card I'm not sure what to do. And I'm not comfortable doing that. Help please?
I'm using Final Cut Pro 6 and subsequent older versions of Motion and Compressor, not FCP X or companion series.
    HELP!!!!

  • 10.4.4 broke Quartz Extreme

Hopefully an easy question for somebody here:
I installed the full suite of new Software Update fixes last night (10.4.4, Quicktime, iTunes, etc.) and it appeared to run and restart without a hitch. However, an hour later when I launched Soundtrack Pro 1.02 -- my most important app -- it failed with the following error:
    Configuration Error:
This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing.
    * Quartz Extreme Support.
It ran fine earlier in the day, before the update. At first I thought this was a Soundtrack Pro problem, but a few other signs on my Mini indicate that maybe there is a problem with Quartz Extreme now. E.g., the Electric Sheep screensaver is slow and jerky, where previously it was smooth.
Can anyone give me some guidance on where to look to see if any configuration settings might be broken, or how to reset them? Thanks in advance.
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I appear to be in the same boat as you. My MDD has a Radeon 9000 Pro which has been Quartz Extreme capable since the day I purchased the machine.
After the 10.4.4 update I can no longer launch DVD Player (it says "A valid video device could not be found for playback. [-70017]"), Exposé is choppy, and video files in Quicktime Player take tons of CPU usage and yet play choppy.
System Profiler now says that Quartz Extreme is "Not Supported". What happened?
