LAB OF GATEWAY, GATEKEEPER & CUCM

Hi
I want to do practice on cucm, gateway & gatekeeper through lab enviroment. Please give me some kind of scenario to create lab . I want practice on data & voice enviroment kind of thing through data vlan & voice vlan. I have following device for practice
1 cisco router 3600
1 cisco router 2501
1 L3 switch HP procurve 24 port
3 L2 switch hp procurve 24 port
1 broadband connetion
2 laptop with good configuration
cucm 7 iso
ip communicator
softphone (sip based)
please suggest me any kind of network design (voice & data) according to available metiral with me so that I can start practice.

Wrong forum, try "ip telephony". You can move the post using the control panel on the right.
Anyway it seems to me that you don't have enough equipment.

  • Voice Gateway & Gatekeeper On a single Router?

    Hello All,
Has anyone had experience with putting voice gateway and voice gatekeeper functionality into one router? We will have three clusters initially (with about 1,000 users worldwide though) and was considering one gatekeeper per cluster for CAC and tail end hop off routing for LD/International calls.
Any guidance on what sort of platform these should be running on if kept separate? DSP resources in them, etc.?
The voice gateways will be a mixture of 2851 and 3800 series routers. Thanks in advance for the help.
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi,
I have done this many times in lab, dont know if that will be ok in production if you have a good powerfull problem i dont think that it will be a problem.
About the DSP's maybe you can use the DSP calculator - anyway this refers to many parameters on the network.

  • Cannot make outside call (H.323 gateway and CUCM 6)

I cannot make outside calls. I am using H.323 gateway configuration and CUCM 6. I have attached configuration file and debug file. I configured H323 gateway and route pattern in CUCM. Please let me know if this is a configuration issue or telecom issue.

    Hi 9tysixuae,
I can see that call is hitting the analog ports but from there on it generates error 34 which means circuit not available. You can try the following :
    1. Plug Analog phone and verify if the circuit is fine ?
    2. Try putting signal ground start on the voice port and see if that makes any difference.

  • Lync 2013 as PSTN gateway for CUCM

    Hello,
this is an oddity and not really an advertised feature with Lync, but:
we have a really small footprint of CUCM devices, mostly VTC units that would like to be able to call out to PSTN using Lync infrastracture. We have a fully featured deployment of Lync 2013 used company wide 2000+ users.
We created a SIP trunk between CUCM & Lync mediation server, we defined New IP/PSTN Gateway in topology and published it, configured SIP trunk, profiles, etc in CUCM. The purpose of this is to only dial outbound from the CUCM devices, the CUCM devices
do not have to be reached from outside or by Lync users.
We are able to place calls from a VTC endpoint registered to CUCM via Lync SIP trunk to all Lync users, but we are unable to dial out to PSTN.
Most configuration refer to configuring Lync to use CUCM for PSTN connectivity not viceversa. Is there any documentation on achieving this?
Call flow would be like this.
VTC Endpoint > CUCM ----SIP Trunk----> Lync mediation > PSTN
We already have PSTN access built in Lync, we just need to bridge between the CUCM direct SIP trunk and PSTN.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
To enable inter-trunk routing, associate and configure PSTN usage records to this trunk configuration. The PSTN usages associated to this trunk configuration will be applied for all incoming calls through the trunk that is not originating from a Lync endpoint.

  • CUCM 9 & AS5850, Using MGCP Gateways not found in "Gateway Type" list...

I have an application where I need to control a large, AS5850 gateway using MGCP.  CUCM version is 9.1, soon to be 10.0.  The gateway is populated with CT3 cards.
We have confirmed that the AS5850 does in fact support MGCP, however it is not listed as an option in the list of gateway product choices when adding a new gateway in CUCM.  So my first question:
    1) How do you add an MGCP gateway in CUCM when it is not listed in the "gateway type" drop-down list?  It seems there must be a way to do this.  Other well known gateways such as the AS5300, AS5400 etc.. are also notably absent from the list of gateway choices.  Perhaps there is a template that can be edited?
If anyone has experience utilizing an AS5850 gateway with CUCM & MGCP, it would be very useful to see sample configuration programming from your gateway.
    Many thanks

    Hi,
As per the datasheet, the Cisco AS5850 Universal Gateway supports H.323,  SIP, and MGCP call-control protocols with extensive SNMP management and  debugging capabilities. It works with the Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch,  the Cisco BTS 10200 Softswitch, and many partner softswitches as well.

It looks like that its not supported with CUCM.

  • Gatekeeper showing priority 0 on h323 gateway

    Hello,
I have an H323 gateway configured with primary and alternate gatekeepers.  Priorities were not configured, so both gatekeepers SHOULD show as 127.  However, the first gatekeeper configured shows a priority of 127, the other gatekeeper shows a priority of 0.
I am able to connect to both gatekeepers from the gateway.
I did some research and see that there are some bugs out there on earlier versions which cause the priority to show incorrectly.  but i'm wondering if the bug would only be cosmetic (show the priority as incorrect) or if the priority is actually incorrect.
This is happening on multiple gateway / gatekeeper configurations all with the same gatekeeper priority default configuration and showing the same 0 / 127 priorities in the show gateway
I am wondering if the registration failure alerts is due to the priority showing as 0, and if the fix might be to manually configure the gatekeepers' priority.
Has anyone else seen this issue?

  • Media Termination points and media paths with CUCM

    Hi all,
I could really use some help regarding this topic. Please allow me to explain the situation.
Ok we have some endpoints that are not Cisco but cisco have developed cop files for CUCM and they are seen as a cisco device and register the same as any other phone. This isn't anything to do with the problem, but I want to make this clear. These are actually dealerboards for trading and register cisco lines the same as any other cisco telephone.
    Ok so here is the story;
We have a CUCM cluster in London and a local gateway for local PSTN breakout. There are endpoints that are in Dubai and the register to the CUCM cluster in London. Dubai have their own MGCP gateway for local breakout to PSTN.
    Here is the problem;
When a Dubai endpoint makes a call to a PSTN number in dubain there RTP is send from the endpoint, back to the London CUCM, the London CUCM then points the RTP at the gateway in Dubai. This is using a lot of bandwidth and I am not clear on how to change this so the endpoints send media directly to their MGCP gatway.
In my lab I have sent up 2 CUCM's connected by E1 via MGCP gateways, this is to simulate the PSTN network. I can see that on CUCM 7 this is not the case and media is sent directly to the MGCP gateway, on CUCM 8 media is sent via the CUCM to the MGCP gateway. I have since then added in a software MTP on the MGCP gateway for CUCM 8 and now everything hits the gateway as I have specified MTP is required on the phones profile. This was good but even when I make an internal call, everything hits the MTP instead of using IP-IP direct medial.
Please can someone advise what I need to do or if this type of behaviour is expected.
    Many thanks,
    Joe

    Hi,
You can use this link to learn how to collect cum traces..
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/document/126666/collecting-cucm-traces-cucm-862-tac-sr
We can help you look at the logs and explain whats going on..
Please include the calling and called number and time of call..Check the traces to ensure that the call is there first before sending it over here.
What type of phones are you using? What dtmf method have you specified in your mgcp configuration

  • Avaya calls to CUCM 8.6: Call Park/Hold Fail

This may be similar to the issue I posted here:  https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3496110#3496110
4 digit dialing from an Avaya system to a CUCM 8.6.2 server works fine, the Avaya is set as an h.323 gateway in CUCM.
Once the call is active if the Cisco phone places the Avaya caller on hold they hear no hold music and the call stays active until the Cisco phone tries to retrieve it.  Then it's a fast busy on both end.
The same thing happens with calls placed on park.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi
Are you using G711 or G729 for these calls? If using G729 the CUCM software MTP cannot be used as it only supports g711, you would have to use a gateway-based MTP.
Try setting the calls to G711 to see if it works as a test.

  • Adding MGCP FXS Ports to H323 Gateways

Currently all of our Gateways are H.323 gateways.  Due to a business requirement we are now going to be enforcing our users to use forced authorization codes to place LD calls.  In order to facilitate this on our analog phones it seems the only option is to use MGCP gateways.
From what I understand we can run multiple signalling protocols on voice gateways.  We have a variety of gateway models but by and large most of these gateways are VG224 models.  I think what I would like to do is keep the current h.323 dial-peer and voice-port settings for the PLAR emergency phones that we have on these gateways and only change the analog phones to MGCP.
Most of the route patterns to these h323 gateways look like this... 102[0-5] and then the dial peers on the individual gateways route to the appropriate voice port like this...
    dial-peer voice 1020 pots
     huntstop
     destination-pattern 1002
     port 2/21
The Voice port config looks like this...
    voice-port 2/21
     timeouts interdigit 7
     description tie pr 1520
     station-id name PTRM 1020
     station-id number 1020
     caller-id enable
My plan is to create the MGCP Gateways in CUCM as wells as the DN's... in this example x1020.  I will then enable MGCP on the gateways.  After that my assumption is that I can individually remove the Voice-port and dial-peer configurations and then add the MGCP dial peers with the port and "service MGCPAPP" commands.
My other option is to redo the entire gateway at the same time and schedule after-hours down-times to make the change.  I want to avoid this if possible as we have 40+ gateways that need to be changed.
Basically I just need some guidance or confirmation if my plan will work or if there is a better way to do this?  Are there any caveats or known issues I should look out for when running multiple signalling protocols on the same gateway?
    Thanks,
    Trav Moore

    Thanks Aaron,
I was wondering about the MGCP ccm-config command but was worried it would re-write the entire h.323 gateway to MGCP.  Good to know that it won't and that this is a potential option.
I actually do prefer the idea of only having one signalling protocol (I would like to go all SIP if not for the FAC codes needed). Unfortunately any maintenance that I do that impacts end-users requires a lot of after-hours scheduling and maintenance alerts.  These gateways have a combination of fax-machines, PLAR's (emergency phones and overhead paging), and analog phones.  Maybe eventually I can migrate all of these ports to MGCP.  For now the analog phones are the only ones that must be converted and if I can quickly convert them without anyone noticing aside from the minimal reset in CUCM then this would be ideal.
    Thanks!

  • Problem with H323 gateway

We have a CUCM ver 8.6.2.22900-9.
For our PSTN access we have the following scheme:
    CUCM <========> Cisco2911 <======> ISP-------> PSTN
                  H323 tk                              SIP tk
Our Cisco2911 is running ver 150-1.M4.
We configure Cisco 2911 as H323 gateway on CUCM, and we established a SIP tk with our ISP.
When we tested incoming calls we received them at router but they are unable to acceess CUCM,
When we tested outgoing calls we got reorder tone and they did not reach our voice gateway.
We run "debug cch323 all" and tested with one incoming and one outgoing call, and we got the out on attached file "debug h323 forum"
    CUCM Ip : 10.1.2.2
    Router's H323 int: 10.2.2.1
Do you have any idea about the root cause?
Can be an access list problem preventing proper H323 traffic??
    Thanks in advanced
    Enrique

Do you have voip dial-peers pointing back to your cucm from your gateway?   If not then the call wouldn't route onward to the cucm, but the gateway would also ignore communications from that souce because of toll fraud prevention.

  • Set B Channel ID information to Preferred in MGCP Gateway

    Hi All,
We recently had some E1 PRI issues and our Service Provider has asked us to set B Channel ID information to Preferred.
We are using a MGCP Gateway with CUCM 9.1.2
When we enable ISDN debug we could see the Channel ID as Exclusive.
    Jul 25 13:02:07.566: ISDN Se0/0/0:15 Q931: TX -> SETUP pd = 8  callref = 0x0043
            Sending Complete
            Bearer Capability i = 0x8090A3
                    Standard = CCITT
                    Transfer Capability = Speech
                    Transfer Mode = Circuit
                    Transfer Rate = 64 kbit/s
            Channel ID i = 0xA98381
                    Exclusive, Channel 1
I tried to change it to Preferred by configuring the command, "isdn negotiate-bchan"   under the serial interface but still debug shows it as Exclusive only.
Let me know whether we can change the B Channel information either in CUCM or MGCP Gateway.

    Hi
    Can you try the below:-
    1- interface x/x/x:15
    isdn protocol-emulate network
     isdn bchan-number-order ascending
    then test again
2-Go to CUCM - gateway and do the below
CHANNEL IE TYPE " TIMESLOTS "
    Thanks

  • Customer's lab environment.

    Hi All,
I am currently planning a lab environment for my customer that will allow us to test scenarios, upgrades, bugs, etc.
The lab will contain the following collaboration apps-  CUCM, CUC, CUP, UCCX (all v8.x)
I went through my ordering options and found that i have few "lab" license options for CUCM and CUC
    1. NFR. since this is a customer lab environment i can't use this option..
    2. Non Production.  This is a good option but this license actually prevents you from upgrading.
now this makes no sence to me. one of the major things one would like to check in his lab is upgrades, and without this option it's not a proper lab solution as i see it.
UCCX is a different story as the ordering guide mentiones that for non prod environments one should order as if it is a new product.
Does anyone have any ideas regarding an operationally practical lab environment?
