Labelit command ?

I would like to ask for a non-important
question on the labelit command, in Solaris 8.
1. What is the purpose of the labelit command ?
I see that we can apply a fsname and a volume
name to the disk.
2. Is there any functionality for these two fields?
( fsname and volume )
Is it for reference only ?
Is the volume name for the metadevice name, in disksuite, or the
plex name in volume manager ?
3. I ran the following command on a unmounted /
unused disk and got the following error:
Command : labelit -F ufs /dev/rdsk/c1t3d0s0 /s1 vname
Error / Response : labelit : read: I/O error
Then I ran the following command to query and received something :
labelit /dev/rdsk/c1t3d0s0
fsname: /s1
volume: vname

Hello Eric,
Thanks for the prompt reply and suggestion.
Unfortunately command - option/alt - click doesn't do it either.

  • Why doesn't the "Command Number" keyboard shortcut apply the colored label to the selected image?

    Why doesn't the "Command Number" keyboard shortcut apply the colored label to the selected image?  The similar keyboard shortcut to assign stars works, but the shortcut to assign a label color doesn't?

    Just to be sure they haven;t been reassigned in your Aperture go to Aperture->Commands->Customize then in the search box in the upper right hand corner enter color.
    You should see the keyboard shortcuts and the corresponding add label commands.
    If they are set then quit Aperture move you preference file to the desktop and restart Aperture. The instructions for moving the preference file can be found at Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics

  • Advertise implicit-null label for static routes

    Hi, I want to ask if there is any way to change the label or stop adveritise label for an static route. Normally LDP advertises an Implicit Null label for directly connected routes. We want to do similar thing for static routes.
    We need to do this is because somehow we need to do rate-limit on the PE interface connecting to the core network instead of the interface connecting to CE. As the incoming packets still got labelled, the rate-limit is skipped. So we want to stop the PE creates label for the static routes or advertises them with implicit null label. Thanks in advance.

    Calvin,
    Bear in mind that if you only enter the "no mpls ldp advertise-label" command, LDP will stop propagating all labels, which might not ba what you want. If you selectively want to propagate certain labels, then you need to also use "mpls advertise label for " as Shivlu suggested.

  • Problems with Playback in CS5, CS4 (gotoAndPlay command)

    I've encountered a really frustrating issue a couple times now throughout the past year, both in CS5 and CS4.  I get to a certain point in a project where it just seems Flash does not want to cooperate anymore.  It's difficult to even explain what the issue is because it doesn't seem to  be triggered by one thing in particular, and often produces different results.  It's almost as if the file becomes corrupted.
    Here's what will happen:
    *I will create symbols and place each one in its own frame on the main timeline, so that I can see them easily.  The assets will usually contain animation inside the symbol. When I'm working on a particular symbol, I will put a gotoAndStop command on the first frame of the main timeline, pointing it to the symbol I want to test.  So if I'm making a tea kettle, and have placed it on frame 4, I will put a "gotoAndStop(4);" command on the first frame.
    *At a certain point, I will start having problems with test movies using this gotoAndStop method, even if I don't change any the scripting.  Sometimes it will turn off layers that aren't supposed to be guides.  Other times it will show me a blank frame.  If I replace the gotoAndStop command with a  stop command on the particular frame I want, my project will display correctly.
    If it were a relatively small project, I would deal with it and test everything with the Stop command.  However, this is a fairly big, complex project, and in my experience, this issue seems to contaminate other files that these assets are copied to.
    *I've double checked the scripts inside of the symbol, which are all simple "stop();" or "gotoAndPlay("label");" commands, and there's no error showing up in the Output window.
    *The most random things will trigger this problem.  Sometimes, it's adding a shape tween to the symbol.  Other times, I could turn off the background layer in the main timeline by making it a guide, and all my other layers would show up.  But this background layer shouldn't affect anything, as it only has a "stop();" command inside.  I was able to fix the problem once by saving the FLA as an Uncompressed Flash Document (xlf).  When I opened the new file, it would play back correctly, but eventually, it'd break again.
    I was having similar problems in CS4 on another project.  In one case, we discovered we could fix the problem temporarily by deleting a single tiny line in one of the symbols.  Eventually, it would pop up again, though.  Another time, I could fix it by blowing away all the linkage identifiers, but that doesn't seem to be working this time.
    It's very odd.  Anyone have any ideas?

    She didn't export it for CS4. If she had it wouldn't be an INDD file. She needs to export to IDML and you need to realize that this document may not look like it does in CS5.
    You do need to upgrade if you want to work successfully with this other designer. Worth noting, in case you don't, is that you cannot upgrade individual components of the suite. Personally, I recommend Design Premium as the best bang for the buck.

    You find a link a Amazon on that page, which as far as I can tell is the best place to buy with free shipping and for the most part no sales tax.

  • Need key commands list - complete

    can someone do me a favor and email me the clipboard output of the comprehensive key command list? i'm not in a position to do this myself right at the moment. if someone chimes up, i'll reply with the email address to send it to. no formating or anything is necessary.
    also, for those that use key commands a lot and have some complex customization, what is your opinion on its reliability? my questioning is due to the possible utilization of a remote session of logic, receiving custom MIDI sysex commands to basically remote control functionality via MIDI. (i will be sending commands via TCP, but there will be a local server sending MIDI to the host machine) do key commands ever not execute? if you send a rapid sequence of key commands, do they execute in a predictable fashion? etc...

    Why do you need to use Sysex commands? They're so much more complicated to program and keep track of...
    In terms of reliability, sometimes I find that key commands "go bad". This is almost always a case of "key label" commands going bad and to fix the problem they need to be re-programmed as "key position". That's the only buggy behavior re key commands, aside from the bugs in the key command window itself. But that's another story. Here's the list:

  • Applescript watched folder using label colour as trigger

    Hi can anyone with good applescript knowledge please let me know if this can be done?
    I have Folder A and Folder B
    I want only items in Folder A that are "Labeled Blue" to be Moved and compressed into Folder B (on the same drive).
    Applying the label command and colouring "Blue" would be the trigger.
    Any help in how to do this would be very welcome, thanks in advance.

    Many thanks for your feedback.
    In order to compress the moved files, the script might be modified as follows:
    set A to POSIX file "/Users/pierre/Desktop/A"
    set B to POSIX file "/Users/pierre/Desktop/B"
    tell application "Finder"
        activate
        move (items of folder A whose label index is 4) to folder B
        reveal result
    end tell
    tell application "System Events" to tell process "Finder"
        click (menu item 1 of menu 1 of menu bar item "File" of menu bar 1 whose name begins with "Compress")
    end tell
    Since the last part of the above script uses GUI Scripting, you must enable the Accessibility Frameworks by clicking the checkbox labeled "Enable access for assistive devices" in the Universal Access System Preference pane.

  • Cannot read SOLARIS disk label

    Hi people,
    I dualboot Solaris 10 along with Gentoo using GRUB.
    I tried creating a new partition running fdisk from format. The program asked the space percentage of the new partition and since I had 3 of them already (46%, 48% and 3%) I entered 1 there (It didn't accept 3). I exited and issued the label command from format.
    At that point, the whole system froze and I hardbooted.
    The message above was what I got.
    Can you describe to me how do I boot into a rescue console mode of some sorts from the Solaris dvd and fix it ? (I figure it has something to do with vtoc that needs to be rebuilt).
    Thanks in advance.

    Select the device when it's mounted on your dad's machine.
    From the File Menu, select Get Info
    If the lock is "locked" click on it, and insert password, if necessary.
    Click the "Details" arrow to point down.
    Also, check the box to "Ignore Ownership on this Volume"

  • CCME 4.0 and DN line Labels

    Is it possible for an ephone button to monitor another users line but have a different line label that what is on the ephone-dn. Example user at extension 4913 has an ephone-dn with label of 4913. Receptionist want to monitor that ephone-dn but wants the button on her 7914 side car to say John Smith instead of 4913. If you change the label on the ephone-dn it also changes it on the end users phone as well.
    Any suggestions.

    This should work for you. Of course it's probably quite a few changes from your classic shared line.
    ephone-dn 1 dual-line
    number 4913
    name John Smith
    no huntstop
    preference 1
    ephone-dn 2 dual-line
    number 4913
    label John Smith
    name John Smith
    preference 2
    ephone 1
    button 1o1,2
    ! John Smiths phone
    ephone 2
    button 7o2,1
    ! Receptionist phone representing only the button in
    ! question. Used 7 as an example.
    By making it an overlay with two shared lines, the ephone-dn 2 is added to button 7 first so the label command takes precendance over the default label. Vice versa ephone-dn 1 is the first dn on the overlay on ephone 1 so the default label should appear.
    This is all in theory and I haven't tested so you might want to try with some test phones. Additionally I was making some assumptions with the dual line and the shared lines. I just noticed though you said monitor, so I don't think you can monitor with overlay lines. Still gonna post anyway as you might not have meant Monitor literally.
    Thanks
    Fred

    Also when you click on buttons in "second" menu.jsp it's like it was clicked on the "first and the original one". When you click navigation rules do apply.
    Can anyone help on this?

    I haven't solved problem yet but so far I realised this:
    - the problem is that both menu.jsp and content.jsp have forms, with tags: <h:form formName="form1" id="form1">.
    I've tried renaming form and id, but it didn't worked, alo tried changing scope of managed beans for the two inserted jsp pages - still nothing.
    - also if the content.jsp is not containing form but other JSF components like Image or Hyperlink, that components are not being shown/rendered.

  • Website buttons don't work

    Hello,
    A friend of my is making a flash website for an assessment. But the buttons to navigate between the pages don't work. I have looked at it but I can't figure out the problem. There are no errors at all.
    The website consists of the main timeline, with all the pages on it. There is a movieclip with the instance name 'menu' in which all the navigation buttons are. The navigation buttons are called home_btn, info_btn, etc.
    The buttons should link to a frame on which there are labels. Those labels have the same name as in the AS code. (We checked it like 100 times!)
    Here is the ActionScript (3) that is inside the 'menu' movieclip:
    import flash.events.MouseEvent;
    home_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,naarHome);
    function naarHome(event:MouseEvent):void{
    gotoAndStop("home");
    info_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,naarInfo);
    function naarInfo (event:MouseEvent):void{
    gotoAndStop("info");
    animatie_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,naarAnimatie);
    function naarAnimatie (event:MouseEvent):void{
    gotoAndPlay ("animatie");
    video_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,naarVideo);
    function naarVideo (event:MouseEvent):void{
    gotoAndStop("video");
    On the maintimeline there is a stop(); on the first frame of the 'home' page. On this frame is also a movieclip called gallery, which contains a automatic slideshow of some photo's.
    When executing this, the navigation menu appears and the slideshow starts, but when clicking on one of the buttons, nothing happens and the slideshow keeps going. There are no compiler errors and there is no output.
    Does anyone know what the problem is?
    Thanks in advance.

    While there is nothing wrong with that code in terms of syntax, for where you say it is, I would expect errors unless your menu movieclip happens to have frames with those labels in it.  If that code is inside the menu and you are trying to command the parent of the menu, then your gotoAndStop('label) commands are targeting the wrong timeline.
    What you should try doing is to move that code out to the timeline that it is trying to command and target the button from there, something like...
    menu.home_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,naarHome);
    function naarHome(event:MouseEvent):void{
       gotoAndStop("home");
    menu.info_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,naarInfo);
    function naarInfo (event:MouseEvent):void{
       gotoAndStop("info");
    menu.animatie_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,naarAnimatie);
    function naarAnimatie (event:MouseEvent):void{
       gotoAndPlay ("animatie");
    menu.video_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,naarVideo);
    function naarVideo (event:MouseEvent):void{
       gotoAndStop("video");

    I am using an Ultra5 system with OBP 3.25.3, Solaris 8 [10/01]. I have a 160GB Seagate ST3160812A disk drive that I am trying to use as a second drive (primary slave).
    I have installed the drive on the primary channel as a slave and performed boot -r. The /dev and /devices directories correctly setup device links (c0t1d0) for the drive.
    Assuming all was good I tried to create a new file system on slice 0 with "newfs /dev/rdsk/c0t1d0s0". This responded with
    /dev/rdsk/c0t1d0s0: I/O error
    I then used the "format" command to see what was going on. I can see the drive in the 'format' command:
    #format
    AVAILABLE DISK SELECTIONS
    0. c0t0d0 <ST320420A cyl 39533 alt 2 hd 16 sec 63>...
    1. c0t1d0 <ST3160812A cyl 255 alt 2 hd 16 sec 255>...
    Specify disk (enter...) : 1
    selecting c0t1d0
    (disk formatted, no defect list found)
    format> quit
    As can be seen the 160GB drive has parameters that are all wrong for this size disk. The #format->verify command output for slice 2 (backup) shows the following:
    ascii name = <ST3160812A cyl 255 alt 2 hd 16 sec 255>
    pcyl = 257
    ncyl = 255
    acyl = 2
    nhead = 16
    nsect = 255
    Part Tag Flag Cylinders Size Blocks
    0 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
    1 :: :: ::
    2 backup wu 0 - 254 508.01MB (255/0/0) 1040400
    3 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
    7 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
    I recalled that at boot-up the system showed a 'wrong magic number' message on the new drive. I tried to re-label the drive (format->label). The 'magic number' message went away on the next reboot but the 'format->verify' still showed the same thing.
    I have tried several approaches to fix this:
    1. I have read several posts and on-line texts that indicate the 137GB limit associated with LBA addressing for the Ultra5 IDE controllers. I have also read the post "How can I use my 160G Disk?"
    (http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=829&threadID=5065871)
    which provided great information and described using the "format" command to configure the disk with 65535 cylinders.
    When I use the "format->type" command I get the following:
    #format
    format> type
    AVAILABLE DRIVE TYPES:
    0. ST320420A
    1. ST3160812A
    2. other
    According to the "How can I use..." post, I select [2] other and set parameters. When I get to the first parameter to set the cylinders to 65535 I get the following:
    Enter number of data cylinders: 65535
    '65535' is out of range
    a. Using the #format->type {other} function to change the # of cylinders is not accepted by the OS. In fact any value over 32000 cylinders is rejected by the command.
    b. Just in case I also tried using the [1] disk type. I get the message:
    "disk formatted, no defect list found"
    So the suggestion in this post did not work in my case.
    2. Next I tried referring to the post "Sun Ultra 5 Hard Drive"
    (http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=860&threadID=5068466)
    which suggested using the dd command to 'nuke' the disk label and re-label with format. So using the command:
    dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/rdsk/c0t1d0s2 bs1b count =16
    the command is processed properly but when I perform "format->verify"
    the label is unchanged even after I re-execute the "format->label" command. Rebooting the system did not change it either.
    3. I also attempted to use the 'format->part->modify' command to change the partition. When the command gets to the 'Free Hog Partition[6]" prompt I get a 'warning: no space available from Free Hog partition" message.
    4. I also tried using the 'format->part' command to directly modify the specific '2' partition from the partition menu.
    format>part
    partition> 2
    Part Tag Flag Cylinders Size Blocks
    2 backup wu 0 - 254 508.01MB (255/0/0) 1040400
    Enter partition id tag[backup]; <return>
    Enter partition permission flags [wu]: <return>
    Enter new starting cylinder cyl[0]: <return>
    Enter partition size [1040400b, 255c, 508.01mb, 0.50gb]: 100g
    '100.00gb is out of range'
    ^D
    For some reason even this command limits the partition size.
    5. My last ditch attempt was to use fdisk -S <geom_file> to set the label geometry with the following parameters in the file:
    pcyl: 65535
    ncyl: 65535
    acyl: 2
    bcyl: 0
    nheads: 16
    nsectors: 255
    secsize: 512
    When I run this command the command core dumps.
    I'm somewhat lost as to what is preventing me from even using the suggestions others have found useful.
    Has anyone successfully used a 160GB Seagate (ST3160812A or other 160GB model) drive with the following?
    (as defined by #showrev and #prtconf)
    system: Ultra5
    OS: Solaris 8 [10.01 assumed based on kernel date]
    Kernel: SunOS 5.8 Generic 108528-13 December 2001
    OBP 3.25.3 2000/06/29 14:12
    kernel architecture: sun4u
    My hardware guy has tried numerous times to get a 120GB drive (which some posts indicated should work without any problems) but they are very hard to find. If I can get the 160GB drive to work (even with 137GB) I'll be happy.
    Thanks for any information.

    Your version of the OBP as well as the Solaris kernel are not the most up-to-date. If the system is stable without the new disk I would upgrade the OBP to the last version (3.31). It may also be worthwhile to patch the kernel with the recommended cluster patches (if you have enough disk space).

  • How increase external disk size used for an existing file system, Solaris10

    Configuration:
    Server: Sun T5220
    S/O: Solaris 10 5/08 s10s_u5wos_10 SPARC
    Storage: EMC AX4-5
    EMC PowerPath: PowerPath Version 5.2
    I have the following scenario:
    In AX4-5 storage array, I created two LUNs into RAID Group 10, with Raid Type1/0:
    LUN 101: 20Gb
    LUN 102: 10Gb
    Both LUNs were added to Storage Group (SG1) that includes two Servers (Server1 and Server2); both servers have Operating System Solaris 10 5/8 and Power Path.
    The servers detect both LUNs across two paths. With Power Path were created a virtual path (emcpower0a, emcpower1a) to access to each LUNs respectively.
    We have mounted two file system /home/tes1 over emcpower0a -> LUN101 and /home/tes2 over emcpower1a -> LUN102.
    Filesystem size used avail capacity Mounted on
    /dev/dsk/emcpower0a 20G 919M 19G 5% /home/test1
    /dev/dsk/emcpower1a 10G 9G 1G 90% /home/test2
    I want to increase the space in file system /home/test2, without lost the information that I have stored and using the same LUN, LUN 102. To do this I start with the following steps:
    1-     Create new LUN, LUN 103 with 15Gb into RAID Group 10. Result: OK, I have available space in RAID Group 10.
    2-     Add LUN 103 to LUN 102, using concatenation option. Result: OK. This action creates a new metaLUN with the same characteristics of LUN 102, but with new space of 25Gb.
    After to do these actions, I want to know how Solaris recognize this new space. What I need to do, to increase the size of file system /home/test2 to 25 Gb. Is that possible?
    I reviewed the description of each disk using format command, and the disks not have any change.
    Could anyone help me? If you need more detail, please do not hesitate to contact me.
    Thanks in advance.

    Robert, thank a lot for your know how. You helped me to clarify some doubts. To complete your answer, I will add two more details, based on my experience.
    After to execute, type -> auto configure and label, the disk was created with different partitions like root, swap, usr, like this:
    Volume name = < >
    ascii name = <DGC-RAID10-0223 cyl 49150 alt 2 hd 32 sec 12>
    pcyl = 49152
    ncyl = 49150
    acyl = 2
    nhead = 32
    nsect = 12
    Part Tag Flag Cylinders Size Blocks
    0 root wm 0 - 682 128.06MB (683/0/0) 262272
    1 swap wu 683 - 1365 128.06MB (683/0/0) 262272
    2 backup wu 0 - 49149 9.00GB (49150/0/0) 18873600
    3 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
    4 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
    5 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
    6 usr wm 1366 - 49149 8.75GB (47784/0/0) 18349056
    7 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
    This was not convenient because all information stored appear in the first slice and growfs not work if appear root or swap slice into the disk, for that reason was necesary to recreate manually every slice with partition command. The final result was this:
    Part Tag Flag Cylinders Size Blocks
    0 unassigned wm 0 - 49149 9.00GB (49150/0/0) 18873600
    1 unassigned wu 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
    2 backup wu 0 - 49149 9.00GB (49150/0/0) 18873600
    3 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
    4 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
    5 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
    6 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
    7 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
    Now, execute again the label command to save the new information.
    Mount file system and execute:
    growfs –M file_system mount_point to expand the file system to 9Gb.

  • XMLSocket Issue

    HI,
    I have written a small program which uses XMLSocket to
    communicate with some server.
    It works for the first time, I mean when i send first
    message, I got the response from server but after that flex client
    does not send any message to server and i see no exception in the

    can anybody pls. help ?

    Hi Tracy,
    Thanks for your reply.
    SocketComm is a action script class which maintains XMLSocket
    object for the whole application.
    package asclasses
    import flash.display.Sprite;
    import flash.events.*;
    import flash.net.XMLSocket;
    import mx.controls.Alert;
    public class SocketComm extends Sprite
    private var hostName:String = "localhost";
    private var port:uint = 8080;
    private var socket:XMLSocket;
    public function createSocketConnection(hostName:String,
    port:uint):XMLSocket {
    if(socket == null) {
    socket = new XMLSocket();
    socket.connect(hostName, port);
    }else if(socket != null && !socket.connected) {
    socket.connect(hostName, port);
    return socket;
    Actually now i am able to communicate with server over
    XMLSocket.
    There was some problem at server side.
    But still i am not comfortable with using
    SocketComm(XMLSocket) as a common utility class due to event based
    asynchronus model. Like in Java Socket all calls are synchronus, I
    can easily create common class for socket communication.
    But due to my unfamiliarity with event based asynchrous model
    of programming, I am facing difficulties.
    Like my requirement is to use SocketComm class as a
    communication medium with server for various business operations
    like add, modify and delete etc. from various Flex UI screens. But
    due to event based model, I am not really sure how and when socket
    is going to send response.
    So if you look at my first post, I have added all listeners
    to mxml page but i feel this is not a good design, As i have
    atleast 4-5 mxml pages where in I will repeat these listeners.
    I would really appreciate if you could provide me some
    guidance on using SocketComm class as a effective common class.
    Thanks in advance :)
    Regards
    Tarun

  • Import/export route targets from E-BGP ?

    hi all,
    a newbie question again,
    can i import/export rte target in a vrf from/to ebgp session,
    in all my readings i only see samples from import/export with iBGP peering
    thanks for answer

    Yes you can do it this way as well, without the MP-EBGP peering between the both AS's RR's. (You have missed the multi-hop neighbor statement)
    This will achieve the RT exchange between the PE's, so next you will have to import that RT on the other side.
    Once you have the RT with the routes exchanged you will have VPN labels as well populated for the routes on the remote side.
    Now you will have to implement a method to assign an IGP label on top of the VPN label (this label should be for the PE's loopback of AS 100 who advertised this route to AS 200)
    In your case, you can use the send-label command at the ASBR's for the IGP route of the PE;s in their AS' with a label. For this you can redistribute IGP into BGP and again BGP into IGP (with a route-map matching only PE's loopback in their AS and the remote AS).
    So you will effectively have 2 labels to switch traffic between the AS's (IGP and the VPN label).
    HTH-Cheers,
    Swaroop

  • Should I make a ubuntu 2 arch wiki?

    I am a arch noob but im coming around its only ny third day. I came from ubuntu. Arch was mentioned alot on ubuntu for its speed and such. Alot of things i didnt know had to be installed in arch to get it  in a familiar state. I ve done a decent bit so I was thinking why not write a wiki for people like me?
    This would all be assuming that they have their internet and gnome installed.
    I was thinking It  would be focused on making an arch install layout "feel" like a ubuntu one. Such as have all the familar tools and apps. Meant to give them a comfortable enviorment and such to help them ease in slow. Cause some of the simpilest crap was confising for me! .Mostly because I had just never had to do it.
    so should i?

    Here it is so far. I know it really nooby so far but it just the first 2 steps.
    Anything I could have missed at this point.
    Welcome to the Ubuntu to Arch guide. The guide assumes 3 things
    1.You have an internet conection to the computer which archlinux is installed on.
    2.You are using the gnome desktop enviorment. This is the defualt enviorment in ubuntu so it only natural to use the same one.
    3. You have a brain in which you are capable of processing information, you have hands, and that you understand the english language.
    Now those three things aside let get started. So you just installed arch, and finshed installing gnome. You entered that memorable "startx" command and watched you computer go from a dark and dingin shell prompt to a real PC right before your eyes. But somethings are different, the file manager looks weird! There is nothing in the application menu! And for gods sakes there are three annoying icon on your desktop that have been condemmed there as if by satan himself so cant not remove them!
    Dont worry this is a defualt gnome install. Were going to ubuntufy your gnome a little!
    First you may have noticed the three icons. Click on the one called computer and you will see a bare white window displaying files. To make this look like ubuntus file browser click on the edit menu form the menu bar on the top of the file browser window go to the bottom of the edit menu and select preferences. A new window will pop up. You should see some tabs at the top of this window select the behavior tab. The third choice down from the top of the behavior tab should say "Always open in browser windows" select that choice. Close the preferences windows and close the file browsing window. Re-open it to find a familiar face, your old natilus look!
    Now you will be using the terminal in this guide so lets retrive your old friend (or foe in some cases) the gnome terminal. If you go to your applications menus > accessories > root terminal it should bring up a root terminal if it did continue to the nex paragraph. If it did not (as it did with me) click and drag the root terminal from the menus to your desktop to creat an icon for it. Right click it and select proerties in the text box labeled "command:" it might say something like "gksu -l gnome-terminal" completely erase that and simply type "xterm" in there without the quotes. Click the icon and now you good to go.
    In you terminal log in as root  with the
    $ su -
    and type in you password. Now type in
    # pacman -S gnome-terminal
    Now go to you menu > accessories and youll see a "terminal" click and you old buddy is back.
    Now we can get to work...
