Labels in Bridge CS6

Hi all
I have a question which might have a painfully obvious answer or no solution at all- in either case, here it is anyways.
(Also, I have done a search for the answer, but it was rather hard to form into search terms...)
I am wondering if it's possible to view all labels across folders and over the entire computer.
In other words, if I label an image (eg, Image1) with Approved in one folder (eg, Folder1) and then label another image (eg, Image2) Approved in a different folder (eg, Folder2), is it possible to view just these two images by, let's say, filtering for the label Approved?
As of right now, all I can manage is labelling Image1 and Image2 but only being able to filter for the label Approved and viewing the images in their respective folders (ie, if I am in Folder1 and I fiter, I only see Image1- and vice versa).
The reason I ask is, I don't want to have to duplicate my approved images (which are all in different folders due to different shot dates) and place them in an entirely new, seperate folder- it'd be much easier to label and filter, keeping the images in their original folder.
Perhaps I'm over-explaining this, but any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Ps: While typing this, I thought of an idea... is there any way to tag images and then filter for the tag across the entire computer (in Bridge or out of Bridge)?

Filter only works on the folder you are viewing.  If you want to see lables or tags across folders you have to use Find.  But they have to be on the same drive.  Ctrl F is shortcut in Windows.
I believe Lightroom has ability to search across drives.

  • Bridge CS6 (Mac) Forgetting Labels

I am having a long standing problem with Bridge "forgetting" labels I apply to folders and files. I have trashed preference files, reset the preferences and even re-installed from scratch. The problem persists. The strange part is that it only affects one particular file heirarchy; the others that I manage with Bridge seem to be fine.
    Any ideas?

Thanks! If there is a workaround or simple solution, I would be very glad if you could inform me.

  • Problem with changing Label in Bridge CS3 and CS6

    Hi there,
I am having some problem with changing Label in Bridge CS3 and CS6 in windows.
    1. In Bridge CS3 (Windows XP), most of the time with most of the files, there is no problem. But I found that in some files, the Label does not get changed. I usually change Label by right clicking on the picture, then Label and select any Label. When I do so in those files, nothing happens. But when I rename the file by changing or adding just a single character, then it works. And if I again rename to original name, it still works. But without renaming the Label does not change. Again this does not happen with all pictures, but occationally with some. We usually receive pictures from different clients for editing purpose.
    2. In Bridge CS6 (Windows 7), if you create lot of Path using Pen tool in Photoshop for the purpose of removing background, you save the file, close, and change Label in Bridge, again open the file in Photoshop, you see no Path in the Path Pallette. So that means, changing Label works, but it removes the Path from the file. But if there is small amount of path, then no prboblem. But if there is lot of path, like you need to create for a necklace to remove background, then the problem arises.
I am using Bridge for a purpose where it is very helpful so I really need to use Bridge, and Labeling feature is the most important to me, but after feaguring out this problem, I am really tensed as to whether or not I will find a solution to this. So any help, guidance will really be appreciated.
Thanks very much in advance for any solution.
    Best regards

I have re-checked the issue and I found that the problem is with JPG file.
I wasn't even aware you could save a path to a jpeg file (always use PSD because of wanting to keep the Alpha Channel, jpeg only can contain 1 layer and no alpha channels and/or transparency).
However I tried it on a file with a simple path and one with a complex path. It seems indeed you have found a bug. The simple path is no problem but the more complex path is indeed disappearing.
It is not only label but also rate or adding IPTC in the description field. The moment metadata is saved to this jpeg file and reopened the earlier present work path of a more complex path is gone.
Despite the fact that to my opinion a jpeg is not the most suitable file format for saving a work path this should not happen. If a work path is saved to a jpeg then it should be kept saved after just altering metadata in Bridge.
It still is the same behavior in Bridge CC because that is what I use. Don't know when it started but it still needs to be repaired

  • How do I rate and label files in Bridge CS6?

Fulltime student and a new cloud member. Having problems with first project. I can't nor can the instructor figure out why I'm not able to rate and label files in Bridge CS6.

No clue why I didn't think about this.
Isn't that why we are here?...
But serious, I understand your wish for a big preview but not your wish for clicking, never been a fan of RSI myself
It is a long standing issue rating and labeling are not the same in all circumstances but clicking in the preview window might be a difficult wish to fulfill. There are many ways to use Bridge but if you like big previews consider this:
In the Bridge prefs advance tab select 'generate monitor sized previews' (this should create good full screen previews)
Then either select a bunch of files in the content window you want to judge or just start at the first file.
Hit space bar and full screen preview starts showing (when all files have been cached it should take very less time or real time to show good previews.
With arrow keys cycle through the files and with cmd + . or cmd + , (comma, I now realize I had it wrong in the other post) to increase or decrease ratings. All the keys are adjustable with only one hand and very close to each other. And clicking on a spot does show a 100 % preview of that part.
But as said before, so many users, so many workflows

When opening Bridge (CS6) I get the following message: "Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache. Please try purging the central cache in Cache Preferences to correct the situation" I tried and after selecting purge cache it does not allow me to select OK. Also Bridge keeps saying "Building Criteria" with the spinning wheel and nothing happens. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. Please help:)

Maybe a Preferences reset can help:
Numerous program settings are stored in the Adobe Bridge preferences file, including display, Adobe Photo Downloader, performance, and file-handling options.
Restoring preferences returns settings to their defaults and can often correct unusual application behavior.
Press and hold the Ctrl key (Windows) or the Option key (Mac OS) while starting Adobe Bridge.
In the Reset Settings dialog box, select one or more of the following options:
      Reset Preferences
Returns preferences to their factory defaults. Some labels and ratings may be lost. Adobe Bridge creates a new preferences file when it starts.
    Purge Entire Thumbnail Cache
Purging the thumbnail cache can help if Adobe Bridge is not displaying thumbnails properly. Adobe Bridge re-creates the thumbnail cache when it starts.
    Reset Standard Workspaces
Returns Adobe predefined workspaces to their factory default configurations.
Click OK, or click Cancel to open Adobe Bridge without resetting preferences.

  • Migrating from Bridge CS6 to CC

Hi, is there a way to migrate labels, keywords and collections to Bridge CC?  It is impossible to do this to 30,000+ images.

Thanks for the information, being that it seems a not-so-straightforward procedure, do you know if there is a detailed description (for Mac users) to accomplish the migration? It amazes me that my original posting Migrating from Bridge CS6 to Bridge CC did not return any information. Am I missing something here? I am not even sure what you mean by 'unhide them in explorer' I use chrome and safari. Are you referring to unhiding the System Library?
    Thanks again.

  • Bridge CS6 not displaying complete metadata

I have CS5 and am playing around with CS6.  So far so good, impressed overall.
I like to have Bridge set up to display the Metadata for each image, and when I view the metadata, it is not as complete as what I see in the CS5 version of Bridge.
Specifically, I like to be able to see the Subject Distance, which is recorded for the camera/lens combination I'm using.  In Bridge CS5, the Subject Distance displays just fine, but it is completely absent in CS6.  I have confirmed this to be the case with my Canon 1D Mark IV, and my wife's Canon 7D.
Also, I like to see the ISO as well.  In Bridge CS5, it shows nicely as "ISO Speed Ratings" while in Bridge CS6, it shows as "(ISO) Photographic Sensitivity" - kind of excessive.  If I only check the "ISO Speed" - nothing shows up.
To verify this, I made sure *all* metadata options in the Preferences menu were selected to display, but despite this, the Subject Distance is not being displayed (and the ISO labeling is a bit wordy for my taste).
Also, I posted this in the PS General Forum, and received a reply from one user that for some of his old NEF files, Bridge in CS5 and CS6 displayed the subject distance properly, while for some newer NEF files, it showed in CS5, but not CS6.
I assume this is a bug, where Bridge is having trouble reading the metadata fields for different raw files, but I welcome any advice on how to get it to display Subject Distance, which is contained in the metadata.  And hopefully pointing out this bug will lead to its getting fixed sometime down the road.
    Thanks.

    Curt,
I posted here, since it's a Bridge Function, not really Camera Raw.  Bridge is where the metadata is being displayed, where the Preferences identify the particular metadata fields, etc.
And while I understand the need to do my share of sleuthing in tracking down a problem, to better define it, I think the cause here will be sporadic, rather than systemic.  As you saw with your own files, some old NEF files displayed fine, newer ones didn't.
Some cameras store Subject Distance in the MakerNote fields, others don't.  Some lenses provide the data for Subject Distance in cameras that do record this information, while others don't.  So there is a myriad of factors involved here, and any additional sleuthing would just identify particular instances where Adobe's routines aren't correctly identifying and reading the MakerNote data.
I've identified 2 current cameras, which clearly demonstrate the problem.  Adobe can examine their routines for these cameras and fix them.  And if/when others come forward having discovered their cameras also show this problem, those can be corrected as well.
As I said, I think this is more likely to represent particular quirks in their routines as they're implemented for specific camera models, rather than a systemic, universal problem.
I spent a few hours looking for another program that will find that information, and was amazed to see how difficult it is.  Even Canon's own Digital Photo Professional does not provide Subject Distance, which shocked me.  I tried PIE, Opanda, iEXIF, Irfan, Faststone, and a few others - none of them correctly found/displayed Subject Distance.
The only one I found was ExifTool, using the mod with the GUI.  This displays it in the "MakerNotes" fields, and interestingly shows 2 data points: FocusDistanceUpper and FocusDistanceLower, both in meters.  The single datum displayed by CS5 Bridge is inbetween these 2 values - not quite the mean, but close.  And as documented above, CS6 Bridge displays none of these.

  • Bridge CS6 click to change ratings

I just upgraded to Bridge CS6.  In previous versions I could change ratings by simply left-clicking the stars under the thumbnail in filmstrip mode.  I can't find how to do this in CS6.  I can use the keyboard shortcuts  to change ratings, but I'm kind of used to the left-click method.  Is there a setting I can change to get back to clicking?

hmmm. i just checked it on my desktop and it actually works fine for me too.  i'll check it again from my work laptop tomorrow (where i noticed the problem) and report back. on my laptop, i did notice that instead of a row of stars like ***, in Slideshow mode, rated images were labelled 3*.  And under the thumbnails in unrated images, the 5 dots that usually appear were not visible.
BTW - i don't know if it matters, but I'm running on a PC with Windows 7.
    thanks Kurt!

  • Adobe Bridge CS6 stalls in Photoshop...

I downloaded CS6 Design Standard from Adobe webpage and have tried several times to get mini bridge/bridge to run, but the message 'Waiting for Bridge CS6' runs for hours. I am using a 64-bit Dell desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium. I have tried option 4 on Error: Waiting for Bridge | Mini Bridge panel, but nothing changes on deleting the Switchboard from the registry. Some folks here have suggested looking up bridge.exe in the Task Manager, but my task manager doesn't even show it up.
I would appreciate help, and soon.

Well… that's your expectation.  Did you pay for the download? During the first 30 days you'd be entitled to your money back, but it's been a heck of a lot longer since Adobe demanded or accepted any mnoney for "CS6 Design Standard".  If you just recently acquired that obsolete suite, it was certainly not through a legal purchase from the Adobe store.

  • Adobe Bridge CS6, Camera Raw

    Hello,
    I need urgently help.
I'm working on a MacBook Pro with Adobe Bridge CS6 since more than 1 year, using Camera Raw, v 8.6.0.254 without any problems.
Last month I bought a Mac Book Air and installed Photoshop Elements 12, Adobe Bridge CS6 and Photoshop CS6. But I'm still missing the possibility to open my pictures in Camera Raw.
After downloading the actual version 7.01 of Camera Raw from the website of Adobe.com and trying to install it I got the following error report:

Updates konnten nicht installiert werden. Dieser Path ist für Sie nicht geeignet.
Name of the downloaded program is: AdobeCameraRaw-7.1-mul-AdobeUpdate.
What shall I do to get Camera Raw running?

  • Adobe Bridge CS6 on Retina Display

I just installed Photoshop CS6 Extended on a Retina Macbook Pro and updated Bridge, Camera Raw, and Photoshop with the latest updates. In Photoshop, everything looks crisp (including Camera Raw when opening it from Photoshop), but Bridge is still blurry. In addition, when opening Camera Raw from Bridge, everything is blurry. There are no updates available for Bridge/Photoshop/Camera Raw when I check for updates...any ideas on fixing this?
    Adobe Bridge CS6 - 5.0.2.4
    Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended 13.0.6 x64

There is no such thing. In CS6 only PS itself is Retina compatible. You would have to use CC for full Retina support.

  • Adobe Bridge CS6 display question

I am a landscape photographer.  Many times I shoot multiple exposures of the same scene to combine them later in HDR.  These are generally 3 or 5 exposures taken at the same time.  It would be very useful to see each set of multiple exposures on a separate line in Adobe Bridge so I can quickly choose which set to use for processing in HDR.  Does anybody know how to do that?  I could not see it in the View options in the menu bar of Bridge.  I am using Adobe Bridge CS6 (5.0.1.21) on MAC OSX 10.6.8. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

You can't do so in Bridge when having different amounts of series. If you shot always 5 you could drag the content window to a new size in combination with changing the thumbnail size so 5 thumbs would show in a row. The same with 3 but there is no way to have a content window showing 1 line with 3 and 1 line with 5 files in the same panel.
In filmstrip mode you have 1 single line but that does not meet you wishes also.
There is the option to auto stack for HDR or Photomerge (Stacks / Auto stack Panorama-HDR) but frankly spoken this sucks because it either does not do the job properly or simply crashes Bridge to my experience.
