Labels with interactive image on ibook author

Is there a way for the labels on the interactive image to hide, until the object it is associated with is touched?

If you intend to build a book for use on iPad you are obligated to use the iOS compatible fonts from the toolbar font menu pulldown, not the main font menu.

  • Blurry Photos in Photo gallery and Interactive image widget--(iBooks Author)

    The pictures that I put in my photogallery and in my interactive image widget were at first clear and would get bigger when I tapped on them (in preview mode on my iPad), and then all of the sudden, they all are blurry, and now when I tap on them, they don't get bigger/zoom! How do I fix this??

    The iBook is about 80 pages, and there is an average of one widget per page, sometimes 2. There are a few galleries in which there are more than one picture, but many of them are simply with one picture (because this is the only way to make it get bigger when you tap on it when on the iPad). For the Interactive Image widgets, I took a screenshot of a google maps route, and then focused on different stops to show directions on my iBook. I just redid all of the photo galleries that were blurry, and they are fixed now (no longer blurry). BUT the interactive images are still blurry....maybe I just need to go back and redo them?

    I got a problem about edit images in iBooks author:
    Here is my problem:
    I want to make the image zoom into full screen when it was tapped on the iPad. How should I do this?
    I need your help, please tell me if you got some experience about this. Appreciate it!

    You don't have to do anything special for this. Make your images 1024 x 768. A tap on an image will expand it to full screen.

  • Importing full-page images into iBooks Author (without image degradation)

    Hi ,, I have had little success importing images created with paint programs such as Corel Sketchpad, Photoshop, Corel Painter, etc. Everything seems to work just fine, but there are pixelated artifacts in the final image that shows on the iPad. I create the orginal images at 1024 x 768 ... and save them as high-qulaity jpgs and pngs .... but still poor qualiting especially where large blocks of solid colors are adjacent to one another.
    When I use a vector program such as Flash or Illustrator and export those images as jpgs ... they look perfect on my iPad. I don't want to use a vector program however ... I want to use paint programs.
    Anyway have success with paint program images? If so, what is your step-by-step process? Hopefully Apple will fix this bug so that paint program's exported jpgs don't have pixelated artifacts at edge areas. There is also a very noticeable color shift in the imported image .. much ligher and less saturated colors.
    In the image below you can see the imported image showing artifacts and the orignal image is not showing artifacts.
    Thanks, Frank

    An iPad 2 screen is 132 - new ipad is 264.
    In cases where you're seeing noticable degradation I wouldn't work with less than 132.
    Start high and reduce....don't try to make low do something it can't by simply adjusting the resolution up.
    I tend to avoid those 'paint programs' And remember, this isn't just about iBooks Author....iOS does the heavy lifting, but sure, it can only do as good as iBA spits out. I think they're working to trim the sails on compression etc. and it will only get better over time.
    The @2x scheme is working well for iOS - I have some stunning graphics for the new iPad in my latest app.
    Good luck.

  • Battling with Interactive Image

    Because I can't change the position of the explanatory text pane in the Interactive Image I got "creative" and fudged it to be more like how I want it. I set the background of the explanatory text to black (with the text itself white) - to the new "pane" is only ever as big as the explanatory text, rather than uniform across all interactive items. I then set the graphical style of the pane's background to "none" so it doesn't show up and overlap any of the image.
    When previewing on the iPad, however, the pane's background appears and greys out my entire image as the explanatory text appears. Not cool.
    Ideally it'd all just appear in the pop-up bubbles but in a rather silly design decision the width of the unselected bubble is the same as the width of the expanded bubble, making a slightly crowded interactive image totally unreadable.
    Does anyone have any tips on removing the background of the pane in the explanatory text properly?
    J

    1) Open Inspector (make sure the widget is the highlighted/active element).
    2) Click on the widget icon (top right brrwn box with cog in it).
    3) You can now choose "Layout" or "Interaction". You want "Layout".
    4) Check or uncheck the boxes for Title, Caption or Background until you get your desired appearance. You can change the position of the label in there too!

  • Using Wikipedia images in iBook Author?

    Can anyone please tell me more about the problems associated with using GENERIC and SHARE ALIKE images.  Some images seem to have both.
    An earlier thread indicated that using SHARE ALIKE will mean all images in the IBook will make them SHARE ALIKE too!

    kenfromUK wrote:
    The feedback from Wikipedia indicates that the information about Wikipedia images affecting the copyright of the images of an author in an iBook is totally false!!!!!!!
    I enclose their return message:-
    You didn't post a link to the particular license that controls distribution of the image in question, so it's difficult to comment. However, a more general comment…
    Did you get this response from a Wikipedia executive, or is it just a reply to a question on a talk page? If the latter, all it is is a comment from any one of a hundreds of thousands of Wikipedia contributors, meaning that it might not be correct.
    I have myself uploaded a number of images to Wikipedia. (Of course, I had copyright on those.) Some of these images I placed into the public domain. If you want to use one of those images, go ahead. They are free to use, and you don't even have to acknowledge a source.
    Other images I published are under the Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported license. That license states that, if you want to use my image, you must acknowledge me as a source and you must make your work available under the same license:
    Attribution-ShareAlike
    CC BY-SA
    This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work even for commercial purposes, as long as they credit you and license their new creations under the identical terms. This license is often compared to “copyleft” free and open source software licenses.
    If a book contains a mixture of copyrighted images and Attribution-ShareAlike images, I expect that the book cannot be published under an Attribution-ShareAlike license because it's not possible to simply give away the copyright to a copyrighted image: one license requries you to allow others to freely re-use your book, whereas, for the copyrighted images in your book, you presumably have permission to use those images specifically in your book only, so the two licenses are in conflict.
    The ShareAlike license makes some exceptions for works that are deemed "collections." However, my reading suggests that, if you include an Attribution-ShareAlike licensed image in a book, that does not make the book a "collection."
    Also note that, if you include an Attribution-ShareAlike licensed image in a book, it looks like you cannot sell that book with DRM:
    When You Distribute or Publicly Perform the Work, You may not impose any effective technological measures on the Work that restrict the ability of a recipient of the Work from You to exercise the rights granted to that recipient under the terms of the License.
    The DRM interferes with the free re-use of the work, and so violates the ShareAlike license.
    Licenses such as ShareAlike have their roots in the eighties, with the Copyleft licensing. The idea of copyleft is to say "We give you something to use. You can use it to create your own stuff, but only if you make what you create available for others too."
    Now, please, take all of the above with a grain of salt. I'm not a legal expert. If you have any doubt about the consequences of including an image in your book, I strongly recommend that you consult a copyright expert, particularly if your book includes images that use different licenses.

  • IBooks not opening with cover created by iBooks Author?

    I have created an iBook with iBook Author uploaded to the iBookstore and downloaded to my iPad. It always opens on the first page and NOT the cover. How can I make it open on the cover and not the first page? Thanks and cheers! Sam

    You don't specify how you're writing to the file, but this problem can occur
    if you open the file and then keep it open so you can write data as it comes
    in without the overhead of opening the file each time. When you use the
    "Open File" function there is a "Deny Mode" input which defaults to letting
    other applications read and write to the file while Labview has the file
    open. If you have set this otherwise, there may be the problem. Otherwise,
    try explicitly closing the file before reading it with Access.

  • Images on ibooks author

    HI friends. I am creating a book on iBooks author and I want to try and insert an image that splits on two different pages but I don't get to do it. I've been checking several examples of ibooks and i like the look of an image that gives some continuity from one page to another. How is it done???

    If you cut the image horizontally (so you have a left and a right section), you can put 1/2 on each page. If you want them to be 'pinchable' to go full screen, do 1/2 on one side and the full image on the 2nd page. THere's a good example of this in the EO WIlson Life On Earth book -- Chapter 1 -- between pages 10 and 11.

  • Lag in drag with easing interaction on iPad/iBooks Author

    Hi folks,
    I'm doing a drag and drop section in a children's iBooks project that I'm working on and I need it to have some easing.
    It works great when I preview it in a browser on my mac, but as soon as I've put it onto iBooks on the iPad it's a bit poor in performance. It does do the easing, but it's a bit jerky at times, this is just about OK, but what isn't OK is that there is a noticable lag (about half a second) between clicking on the 'draggable' <div> and it responding.
    I know from reading that this is meant to be down to the need for the iPad to be able to detect if this is going to be a swipe or some other interaction othan just a 'click'.
    I had also read that the 'touch-punch' jQuery plugin would sort that lag out.
    I have opened the package contents and manually dragged over the relevant libraries for the 'touch-punch' plugin, but it's not working.
    Any ideas?
    The code I'm using in the composition ready section of the stage is as follows:
    yepnope(
        nope:[
            'js/jquery-ui-1.9.2.custom.min.js',
            'js/jquery.ui.touch-punch.min.js',
            'css/jquery-ui-1.9.2.custom.min.css'
        complete: init
    function init() {
        sym.$('draggable').draggable({
            helper: function(){
                // Create an invisible div as the helper. It will move and
                // follow the cursor as usual.
                return $('<div></div>').css('opacity',0);
            drag: function(event, ui){
                // During dragging, animate the original object to
                // follow the invisible helper with custom easing.
                var p = ui.helper.position();
                $(this).stop().animate({
                    top: p.top,
                    left: p.left
                },1000,'easeOutCirc');
    If anyone had any thoughts or tips that woudl be great.
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Just incase anyoe is wanting a solution to this I found another jQuery plugin called PEP which is VERY responsive and works really well for drag and drop on either tablet or desktop.

    I'm still curious if anyone has any ideas on why the touch-punch doesn't work though. Anyone?

  • Interactive Workbook for iBooks Author

    We are making an interactive workbook for iPad users and would like to make it possible to type in answers to the questions in the workbook. Is it possible to do this after it's been published? ie If we had a math textbook and they want to insert answers and then right then email the answers to their professor.
    Is this Possible!!!???? If not, who has the connections to make this possible?

    There are others with far more knowledge about iBA than I, who may not have seen your question yet.
    My intial thoughts are NO, you cannot do everything you want.  There is a tick box Review widget, but not what you want.
    You can ask questions and  add an eMail link for students to reply with their  answers. But they cannt add those answer into the book on  their iPad to add to the existing content.
    Interactivity is basically  making choices as given by the books creator.
    What you want sound feasable in an "app" - but unless you or your team are knowledgable with X Code and whatever other stuff the app makers use.... its a steeo learning curve.
    There have  been similar questions asked, so a search may bring up suggestions I did not  see.
