Labour/ FOH Item in BOM
I have a problem defining labour/foh item in bom I add labour item in BOM its valuation method is Standard. and for GL account determination I choose p&L a/c for stock account so that when the item is being issued it should hit the cost account instead of inventory account bcoz it is non inventory item. but when the finish good is sold there is a varience standing in cost account bcoz the finish good is on moving average method. Any one with better understanding of defining Labour item in BOM pls advise

I did not completely understand your question but confirming on the labor item for BOM. It should be defined in the Item Master of type Labor. In the Inventory data tab set the valuation method to Standard and define a cost for the labor. A labor item in the BOM definition should be defined with issue method Backflush.

Whether Labour hours are assigned to the materials or for the Process,if it is for the Process then how the LAbour hour is comming while doing cost analysis as the full material is not consumed in that Particular stages.

How to change a plant in sales order for main item of BOM
Dear Gorus,
Please tell me how we can change plant of main item of a BOM?
Actually, I have maintained a LUMF BOM. The main item and components of this are maintained for two different plants. BOM is also maintained for both the plants and it explodes smoothly in sales order once I provide the plant. But as per our reqirement sometime we need to change the plant. Here system does not allow to change the plant of main item of BOM as it is in gray mode now.
Please guide me how can I change the plant? Is it possible by configuration or should I go for userexit?
If the userexit required please tell me which userexit I have to use because I already discussed and checked with my ABAPer. we could not find the right userexit.

Item Category do ot change for sub-item in BOM
Hi Friends
I create main item using MM01, Gen item cat. grop in basic data 1 in ERLA and Item cat. group in Sales org. 2 is LUMF
and similarily i created other items useing MM01 (for making sub item of main item) Gen Item Cat grop in basic data 1 is NORM and Item cat group in Sales Org. is also NORM.
When i create sales order (OR) and enter main item only, when i press enter (green button at right top), BOM automatically explode and Item Category of main item change to TAP main item become in display mode BUT ITEM CATEGORY of sub items do not change (it remains the same as TAN), i should also change to TAE
and also when i save this document it shows error at bottam that prising PR00 is missing. When i edit and give price of each sub item, i can save document and all prices which i am giving just now is automatically added in net value at header lavel.
Please any one can advice me where i am doing wrong

IN MM01 ERLA and LUMF can not be assigned to same material.They are alternative item category group.
ERLA is used when you want to price Main item in BOM and sub-item are not priced.
LUMF is used when main item in BOM is not priced but sub-item(individual component) are priced.
In SAles org vie 2- you have assigned LUMF,that is each sub-item is priced.hence you are able save the document.Since You have maintained price in VK11 for each sub-item and item category of sub-item is not getting vhanged from TAN to TAE.
But if you maintained ERLA in Sales org view 2 and redo all steps,your problem will be solved.

This item category is used for components which are not kept in stock if they are used in a bill of material (BOM). Non-stock items can be entered in the BOM with or without a master record. To enter a non-stock item without a master record, you must simply enter a descriptive text.
When you use this item category, the system automatically creates a purchase requisition for these components,
Special functions
The following functions are supported for non-stock items
You maintain purchasing data for non-stock items in the bill of material.
In the planning run, the system generates purchase requisitions
instead of dependent requirements for components that are procured directly. When you configure your R/3 System for MRP, you can define whether direct procurement is triggered by the planning run or by production order management.
Product costing processes take valuation data from the BOM item.
The system determines the release strategy on the basis of the price data you enter. The material group is required to produce a purchase requisition.

Items in BOM which need not be procured/produced
Hi All,
SAP does not seem to have the ability to have zero quantity in a BOM. I have certain materials which are in the BOM but i am not procuring/producing them. But I get a order every time i run the MRP. How can i have the material listed in the BOM but not have its presence effect the orders created?

Definition of BOM:
BOM is a formally structured list of components that makes up a product.
The list contains object no together with the quantity and unit of mesure.
The definition itself fails in your case.
So why you are defining the item as bom item.
For defining the Bom item Qty and unit of measure is mandatory.

I'm using Class Item (Item Cat: K) in my BOM, and I have doubts in the followings:
1. Can a class item be replaced by more than one material?
2. When I enter the characteristics in the header material, if there are more than one materials suits that, the system always pick the first one. Can I do the setting like: the system would prompt for user to choose among those suitable materials?
Pls kindly give some lights on that. Thank you.

When I explode in t-code CU50,
Enter ProductCat B in MainItem, SubItem 3 is chosen.
Enter ProdcutCat A in MainItem, SubItem 1 is chosen. (Why not SubItem2 ???)
I can use "Find Object" button, then "Find in initial class" to choose SubItem2. The SubItem1 is then replaced by SubItem2. That's what I need.
Can I do the same when creating QT in VA21?
During the item cat BOM explosion in VA21, SubItem1 is always selected. I want to let user to choose SubItem2.

Enable trace and generate the tkprof file or open the form using forms builder to get the name of the API used in thta screen.or

From few day we are getting in searching item in BOM through search in CS11 Trans.
Suppose i want search an item which is in the above line where my curser in clicked so now the searched item is not found by search commend & if item is below curser clicked line then it can be find.

Most Abap Programmers write their own program to quickly allow them to search along a bom. It's quite easy to do and will teach you a lot about tree searching and boms!
As I'm feeling kind :o) and to give you a kick start, have a look at function module 'CS_BOM_EXPL_MAT_V2' and then mess about with what it returns.

I know we have usage probability strategy ranking in alternative group but i guess they dont specify which one is primary and which one is secondary material

Priority is the order in which stock is checked in order to reserve.
if either 100% of A or 100% of B can fulfill the demand then it will pick that component based on priority (A first, B second).
Let us make it a little bit more detailed.
Component A
Priority 1
Strategy 2 ( 100 %)
Usage prob. 30
Qty reqd in BOM : 20 EA
Component B
Priority 2
Strategy 2 ( 100 %)
Usage prob. 70
Qty reqd in BOM : 10 EA
If Available stock
A: 20
B: 10
Component A is picked to make reservation.
If Available stock
A: 4
B: 6
(After MRP run)
pur req for A: 2 EA and
pur req for B: 1 EA
If Available stock
A: 0
B: 0
(After MRP run)
pur req for A: 6 EA and
pur req for B: 7 EA
If either 100% of A or 100% of B cannot fulfill the requirement then MRP run will look at the usage probability and generate purchase orders based on the probability and available stock.
But you want to purchase either component A or component B (according your requirement where you want to make one of them primary) It makes little sense to set one at 30% and other 70% so you set that component usage probability for primary as 100% and rest of the components in the group 0 so that pur reqs are generated only for the primary.
Example you always want the system to look for A if it's in stock and can fulfill demand but you always want to purchase B first, so you set priority 1 for A and probability 0 and usage probability 100 and priority 2 for B

How to Add logic to change quantity of child item(Template BOM).
Now We use ver 2004B.
2004B has bug about Sales Bom,The Bom can't be expanded correctly using UI-API.
We have to using BOM Both UI-API and GUI,so we use Template Bom(in UI-API we expand the BOM by ourselves).
Now we face two problems.
1. In Template BOM,when change parents item's quantity,
child item's quantity don't change.We must make UI-API logic to change child item's quantity,but we don't know which event should we catch.
2. We have to add another logic,when expanded Template
BOM (using GUI),setting zero price specific item.But don't know which event should we catch.
Focus lost event may not use,because focus lost event triggers too much timing(for example,displaing a list of item,expanding BOM etc...).
Please suggest us how to do.

new probrem.
・When trrigerd Validate Event ,and add something value to other field, trriger Other Validate Event.
To avoid this problem, I use a variable which type is bool using flug triggerd process.
But I think this way is not so sensible, I want to take other way.

Can someone help me create a query for this or is there a standard report in SAP which will do same?
I want to see avgprice of each child item on BOM i.e...avgprice from OITW and father, childnum, code, warehouse from ITT1 combined in one report.Try this one:

HELP!a class item in BOMs for select mat. components in a configurable GMTL
Hello SAP colleague,
Does anyone of you know what be used as a class item in BOMs for PM?
1. I create a class as the components in a configurable bill of material of the category Assembly
2. I create Configurable General Maintenance Task List and assign a material of the category Assembly to the general maintenance task list in the task list header ?
3. Unfortunately, I can't select the material components of a class item in BOMs and assign them to the task list (Msg. Item category K is not defined as a material component).
4. If I create a maintenance order and assign a configurable general maintenance task list to it, the system recognize that the general maintenance task list is assigned to a configuration profile. It calls up characteristic valuation and only selects the relevant operations for the order from the super task list, based on the object dependencies that I specified. But system don't select the material components of a class item in BOMs.
May I use a class item in BOMs for select material components in a configurable GMTL ?

If want to initial the value of the item to be A, you can set the initial value of the item to 1 in the property pane.

Deleted Items from BOM to be re insert
Dear all
System is not allowing to insert the BOM items for earlier deleted items from BOM in CS02. Our requirement is system should consider the reentry for deleted items.
And system should not allow for duplicate item insertion also. Pl suggest me to resolve this.

I'm looking for a way to add some custom post actions to the EBS save item/eco/bom functionality. So is there any exit point available to add some custom code?
I need to extend pl/sql APIs (e.g. EGO_ITEM_PUB.PROCESS_ITEM) as well as save item/eco/bom functionality executed in the EBS application forms...
Furthermore, is there any database mechanism for tracking all currently created/updated items/ecos/boms?

CarolinIt will help if you describe what you are trying to do but in general, you can
1) Using the Alert Manager responsibility, you can write an event alert that fires when a record is inserted in the Item table or BOM table.
2) Using the Alert Manager responsibility, you can write a periodic alert that fires and processes records that were created since the last run.
3) You can write a after-insert trigger on the tables.
You can use the alert mechanism to track recently created/updated records.
If you want more extensive functionality, you can use the auditing functionality in EBS.
