LabVIEW 2011 compiled application icon missing

Previously when I built an application the VI Icon would appear in the top right corner exactly the same in the compiled executable as it did in the VI.
Since upgrading to LabVIEW 2011SP1 all I get is a blank/question mark, icon missing indicator.
This happens for all of my compiled applications regardless of what icon I specify, even if I leave it as the default.
VI icon looks like this               Application icon looks like this.
Just to be extra clear, there is no problem with how the exe icon appears in windows explorer and shortcuts.
I am ONLY talking about how the front panel icon in the top right corner appears.
The application works, it just looks ugly/unprofessional.
Is this a bug? Do I have something configured incorrectly? Is there a workaround? Has anyone else noticed this?

I tried building on another computer. It works properly.
My usual development machine is running Windows XP SP3.
The other computer I just tried a build on is running Windows 7 and that works fine.
I'm trying a repair of the XP installation now (I'll get back to you in a couple of hours!).
One other possible difference is that on the XP machine I installed the LabVIEW 2011 SP1 f1 patch.
Now I can't remember if I uninstalled it again afterwards. How can you tell if the patch has been applied or not?
I can't remember if I did it on the Windows 7 machine too???

  • "Open With" application icons missing

When I right click on a file > "Open With", then the icons for a few applications are often missing.
For example, see this image: http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/6947/screenshot20091006at124.png
It even happens with Numbers and stuff...

Sometimes they are there, sometimes they aren't. For reasons unknown the Snow Leopard Finder has some difficulty finding and displaying the icons inside of packages/bundles. Eventually it does manage, and once it gets them it hangs onto them, until you reboot. Try this: select a file and do the right click "Open with" but don't bother selecting anything from the list. Then select a similar file, that would open with the same programs, and try Open With for it. I just now did that with a jpg and then a png. The second time the Open With list had all its little icons in place. My guess is the icons are cached somewhere, the cache gets emptied on shutdown, and after a restart Finder doesn't bother to repopulate the cache until it has some reason to do so. It then takes a few seconds to recreate the cache (exactly how long may depend on the speed of your machine, whether or not you have multiple drives with stuff on them, how fast the drives are, and so on), after which it works it works fine. Until you reboot.

    Hi JCC,
Glad you got it to compile, it may have been that LabVIEW got a corrupted file somewhere in the project that was causing an issue and by rewriting the code you bypassed this problem.
If the further problems relate to a problem with FPGA compilation then you could post them here, otherwise it is probably best to create a new thread with a title that relates to that problem, that way other people will know what the thread is about and it they know the answers or have suggestions they will help.

    2. TS Nodes of 2008 R2 with App-v 4.6 running fine on Microsoft 2012 private cloud but we are facing performance issue (stuck, slow logon, slow performance etc) when we are moving in new 2012 R2 private cloud. SAP, SCSM and other sevices are running

1.) What are you doing with the App-V Icon path? e.g. %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\AppV\Client\Integration\<GUID>\Root\AppVClientUX.exe.0.ico ?
I guess you could workaround it with deploying the icons to a central location and then pointing to the icon out on a central share. Or put the icons in a machine location...I haven't had this issue but that's just off the top of my head.
2.) I have not used App-V 4.6 in an environment like yours BUT would pre-caching the applications be possible? Any chance you'll be moving those apps into App-V 5.0 soon?

  • My macbook pro 15 inch freezes up. I forced a shutdown. After reboot, system restarted to factory settings, applications/softwares disappeared, apple dropdown menu disabled, dock and icons missing, keyboard not functioning

Hi. I'm in need of great help as I do not understand how this could have happened.
I had my firefox on, with multiple tabs and windows as I was doing intense research for a paper. My screen then freezes up, but my mouse could still work. Having experienced this before, I immediately pressed and hold the power button till my macbook pro shuts down.
After which, I switched it back on. To my horror, everything was resetted to factory settings: my desktop background was replaced, the fonts on the clock display were different. But this wasn't so bad.
After which, I realised that my dock went missing, together with the icons. I clicked the apple drop down menu, and my screen hanged momentarily, and in that moment everything on the screen disappeared (including the upper dock) for a few seconds and appear again. Meaning, i cant click the drop down.
Similar thing happened with my spotlight. Using the hot keys command-space, the dropdown appeared on the top right, but when i started to type, the screen disappeared and appeared again like before.
Finally i checked my applications folder, and it seems like all the applications are missing, like they have never been installed before! Their folders are there, but the icons and apllications themselves aren't. No applications/software installed- not even the utilities and system preference softwares that came with the macbook.
Luckily though, all my documents are safe. I just cant open them because my iworks and adobe are all missing and "not installed". I cant even access the internet. I'm doing this via my iPhone.
So basically i cant do anything because my apple drop down menu is unreachable, so is my spotlight, and my apps/softwares like system preference, utility are all missing. Is there a way i can troubleshoot this? Or make my macbook work again? I have already restarted and shutdown and switch it back on again near five times.
I know my explanation is long, but do help me if you can. I'm really at a lost right now...

    Hi
Thanks for the help. I did what you advised, but it still did not work.
The repair disk was successful. Unfortunately when the system restarted to boot my startup disk, I faced the exact same problems as I did previously. I also did a hardware test, but no problems were found.
Even tried powering off and on the macbook pro again but the same problems remained...
I tried to back-up my files too but they refuse to copy/move into my hard disk drive folder.
    Nothing works.
Do you have other ideas? Or suggestions?
    Thanks so far!

  • Application crashes when calling DLL built with LabVIEW 2011

    Hello everybody,
Our application calls DLLs built with LabVIEW 2010 SP1. We installed LabVIEW 2011 and built some DLLs. So far so good. If we start our application and run 2010 DLLs it still works fine. If we run a 2011 DLL just once no error happens, but if we try to run the same 2011 DLL our application crashes reporting the error below. I saved the code for 2010 version and built a DLL and it works fine. Does anyone know why?

On that note, you should be able to create DLLs in 2010 and run them with 2011, correct??  In my case, I have a 2010 built DLL (talking to sbRIO), most of the functions work when run in 2011, but a couple of them lock up LabVIEW on the desktop (but not the sbRIO), no lock ups happen with 2010 on the desktop.

  • Labview 2011 FPGA Compile Error

    Hi,
I'm new to FPGA. I want to use Labview 2011 SP1 with the Spartan 3E starter kit from Xilinx (Spartan 3E driver available from NI labview website).
I'm trying to work my way through the examples that came with the driver. I've run into the same compiler error with a number of the examples. The error is attached.
Error 7 occurred at Read from Text File in niFpgaCompileWorker_CheckForErrors.vi->niFpgaCompileWorker_JobComplete.vi->niFpgaCompile_Worker.vi:1
    Possible reason(s):
LabVIEW:  File not found. The file might have been moved or deleted, or the file path might be incorrectly formatted for the operating system. For example, use \ as path separators on Windows, : on Mac OS X, and / on Linux. Verify that the path is correct using the command prompt or file explorer.
    C:\NIFPGA\compilation\Shift_FPGATarget_Shift_87E8371C\Spartan3EStarter.bld
I've checked the registry to ensure that the path to the compiler is correct.
    Any assistance would be welcome.

    James.

  • How To: Reference LabVIEW VIs in Memory from a Compiled Application?

Hello all! This is my first post on these boards despite the fact that I have been doing LabVIEW for almost 8 years...so go easy on me!
Basically my issue is this: I want to write a compiled application for my team to use to help us have a standardized tool to push VI help tip information. So I created a nice front panel, gave it memory storage via XML to remember info you might want to not have to type over and over again. I also gave it some formatting options, etc. Overall, a nice tool to speed up a repetitive task.
However, it runs great as a VI, but compiled does not work at all and I am sure many of you can see where this is going. I have cobbled together some snippets of code found on these boards to collect a list of references and names of all the VIs in memory that are not currently running. Then I use a ring control to parse which VI I want to target and then push the parsed and formatted help tip to that VI. But the reality is apparently that LabVIEW and a compiled application do not share the same memory allocation, because they are separate application instances.
Is there ANY way around this?
I tried one thing that seemed to make sense, but so far has resulted in the same thing. I tried to do a type def call by reference with an asynchronous call and a wait on asynchronous call function to return the reference list. However, even though this bit of code is still a VI and NOT part of the compiled code, it still somehow picks up the application instance of the owning app, and therefore does not see any of the open VIs in memory that LabVIEW controls.
Any help would be immense, as I am going nuts trying to figure this out!
    Info: LabVIEW 2012.f3
I am also attaching a screen cap of the block diagram of the VI that collects the references.
    Thanks in advance!

Well you run into a security limitation of VI server here. Many methods and properties are not possible to be accessed through a remote application instance. Any Application instance that is opened with an address is considered a remote instance. Basically if you leave the address open in the Open Application, LabVIEW shortcuts to the internal instance. If you connect some address even if it is "localhost", LabVIEW goes through the TCP/IP socket for any and all methods and proeprties and the application instance is considered a remote instance.
Open your floating help window, and place your cursor above your property. Notice the text in there: Remote Access disallowed: Yes.
The reason for this is, that if this method was available over remote connections, anyone with access to your network could connect to that LabVIEW instance and basically discover any and every VI you have currently loaded and even download them to their own computer. And this can not be fixed. This security is not possible to circumvent other than hacking into LabVIEW itself.
I guess this kills your entire idea. An executable can't connect to another executable or the LabVIEW development environment other than through a remote connection! That is due to strict process isolation rules in all modern OSes. The only possible workaround I could think is to create VIs for all remote access protected methods and properties, copying them to every LabVIEW installation you want to access with your shell (and that likely would have to be done through the network as the according methods in the VI server interface are also remote access protected) and then call those VIs through VI server.

  • Application built in LabVIEW 2011 installed successfully but not running on windows 8.

    Hello all,
We have been using labview 2011 to develop datalogging applications. We have built the installer package for one of the applications by choosing the option 'windows XP or later' in 'Advanced' category. The installed application works fine in Windows 7 and earlier versions. But it doesn't seem to work in windows 8. When we try to run the application, the application doesn't load itself or show up but runs in the background consuming 75% of memory (as seen in the task manager).
Then we tried rebuilding the package by selecting 'windows 7 or later' option from advanced category. The problem persists. Running the application in compatibility mode of windows 8 did not help.
Please let us know how to fix this problem.
Kudos are always welcome if you got solution to some extent.
I need my difficulties because they are necessary to enjoy my success.

What is "AMD only"? Do you have the exact processor model?
LabVIEW 2011 has problems with some AMD processors, and some of the issues have been fixed in 2011 SP1 f1. I don't know if built application had similar problems.

MBA and iPad is on same wifi network.

I have same problem. 3 iPads in the house + iMac. Airdrop works just fine except on mine. Mine simply doesn't show Airdrop anywhere. Tried every suggestion on the boards....but I don't even see an Airdrop icon....not on control panel, not under general - restrictions...nowhere.

  • Missing application icons for many applications

After a failed upgrade to kde 4.3 beta through KDEmod I removed all of the KDEmod stuff and reinstalled arch kde 4.2. But now many applications are missing their icons. Anybody has an idea on how to fix this issue? Thanks
P.S. I already tried removing all of the configuration files and already removed every last trace of kdemod stuff.

Hey all, i got the same strange behavior after trying to update to kdemod unstable 4.3 nad move back to kdemod stable.
After unsuccessfully trying to fix it with the given hints i managed to get "all" icons back.
    What i did:
Removing the oxgen icon pakage: pacman -Rd kdemod-kdebase-runtime-icons
After that the oxygen icon dir was still there, so i moved it to get a fresh dir after reinstalling the above removed pakage.
    cd /usr/share/icons/
    mv oxygen oxygen_old
Removing the hicolor icon theme: pacman -Rd hicolor-icon-theme
After that you get a funny looking desktop, cause all icons are gone.. the questionmark icon too.
Then i cleared my pkg cache: pacman -Scc
After that i reinstalled the above removed pakages.
    pacman -S kdemod-kdebase-runtime-icons
    pacman -S hicolor-icon-theme
Now all my icons are back without one exception.. the settings icon in the kde menu.. it shows the icon from the monochrome icon theme.. strange but i can live with it.
Hop this helps some of you
    cheers

  • My iphoto library folder with files of my pictures is missing from the pictures folder, only the application icon remains.  I have read through similar discussions but have not managed to fix the problem with the recommended solutions.  Can anyone help?

I have a Macbook Pro with iphoto '08 running on Mac OS X version 10.5.8.  I used to be able to go to my pictures folder on my HD and access my pictures via that iphoto library folder.  There used to be a small arrow next to the iphoto icon with all the albums then listed within the folder (to the right).  That arrow is now gone and all I have is the iphoto application icon which just reopens iphoto when I click on it, but I want to be able to access the data files.  Somehow I do have files btwn 2008 and 2009 but it hasn't created these since then...Could someone please help me to restore this ability?  I have read other similar posts but they seem to be related to lost data all together and I do luckily have all my pictures in iphoto still. I just can't access them in the pictures folder which means I can't access them on my external hard drive.  I am now out of start up disc space somehow so I figured I had to delete some albums (I have 12,090 pictures) and do have them backed up but want to make sure I can go back for them when I need them.  I did export all the pictures to a folder on the hard drive but it is all 12,090 in one long list with only numbers as names and not in any order, this will be a nightmare to access later!  Please help!  Thank you!

You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto.
That indicates that that is your library.  Put it in your Pictures folder if it already isn't there and make sure it's named "iPhoto Library".  It should look like this:
    Now launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and select that library to open.  If you get that same message close iPhoto and try the following;
Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
