Labview 2013 slow after building application

I have Labview 2013 with the DSC module installed.
I am running on Windows -64bit with 4 GB RAM
After I build my application, Labview slows to a crawl. There are no errors when I create my application and my application runs fine
All other programs run fine.
The windows task manager shows CPU use ranging from 2 to 20%
I have to shut down the computer and restart it. Then Labview is again running fine. Until I build my application again.
My application was originally developed in Labview 2012
I have not yet tried to create a new application to see if it is specific to my application or my Labview setup. I will try that next but I wanted to see if anyone else had this issue.

Is this Windows 8, 7, Vista, etc?
Are you running 32-bit LabVIEW or 64-bit?
I would definitely recommend seeing if this problem happens when you try to build any application, or just your specific application?
Assuming the problem only occurs with your specific application, I would recommend that you try to build it on a different machine (assuming you have access to one) and see if LabVIEW behaves the same way on that other machine.
When you originally built your application in LabVIEW 2012, did you encounter this problem?
You could also try repairing both LabVIEW and the DSC Module to see if that makes a difference.

You are over working your RAM. Your machine should be able to take more RAM.
The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a machine supposedly limited to 4 GB.

Slow LabView 2013

Hi
I have Labview 2013 Professional Dev Sys SP1 ver 13.0.1f2 (32-Bit) and it is slow when I develop any aplication.
For example, if I have a tab control and I change to another tab, it takes about 2 seconds to change tab after I click it.
If i wire a new line, it takes 2 seconds to appear that line in block diagram, and so on.
I have a new computer Dell Optiplex 7010, i7 Processor 3.40Ghz, 64-Bit, 4Gb RAM, WIndows 7 enterprice SP1
If i run Windows task manager it shows 17% CPU usage and 2.14 GB Memory.
If I run for example, excel 2013 it does not seems slow.
Do you have any suggestions ?

Yes I have many front panel indicators, but I do not think they have tons of data but I will double check.
When I open my VI in labview it shows 118 MB memory when running and 124MB at edit mode
By the way, last week when by mistake I moved a part of code to some centimeters below, block diagram was frozen and was been updated to new position but line by line until complete full screen. I took about 5 minutes to work normally.
I am using 2 monitors in my PC. One to display LV panel and one for LV code.
I meant Tools -> Advanced -> Mass compile and recompile your upgraded code. In the same manner a ctrl+run array will force recompile your program. It can help. Else you're down to e.g. using VI analyzer tool to find the culprit, it might be some VI that's corrupted and needs to be moved to a new VI.

Slow update of shared variables on RT (cRIO) after building exe

Hi,
I've been struggling with this for the past few days. I am having a problem with slow updating of shared variables on my RT project....but only after building the application into exe's.
The application consists of an RT target (cRIO 9073) sampling inputs at a rate of 1sec. I have a host PC running the front panel that updates with the new acquired values from the cRIO. These values are communicated via shared variables.
Once the cRIO samples the inputs, it writes the values to the shared variables, and then flags the data as 'ready to be read' using a boolean shared variable flag. The hostPC polls this boolean shared variable and updates the indicators on the front panel accordingly.
Now, this worked fine during development, but as soon as I built the RT exe and host exe's, it stopped working properly and the shared variables ended up being updated very slowly, roughly 2-3sec update time.
To give you some more background:
I am running the Labview 2010 v10.0.
I am deploying the shared variable library on the RT device (as the system must work even without the hostPC). I have checked that its deploying using Distributed System Manager, as well as deploying it into the support directory on the cRIO and not the exe itself.
I have also disabled all firewalls and my antivirus, plus made sure that the IP's and subnets are correct and its DNS Server address is set to 0.0.0.0.
There are 25 shared variables all in all, but over half of those are config values only used once or twice at startup. Some are arrays, plus I dont have any buffering and none of them are configured as RT FIFO's either.
The available memory on the cRIO is about 15MB minimum.
What strikes me is that it works fine before building exe's and its not like the cRIO code is processor intensive, its idleing 95% of the time.

Thats exactly what I'm saying, it takes 2-3seconds to update the values.
I have tried taking out the polling on the PC side, and registered an event on the changing of that shared variable and that doesn't do anything to change the slow update time. Even if I stop the PC, and just monitor the shared variables in DSM it updates slowly.
I also tried utilising the "flush shared variables" vi to try to force the update....that does nothing.
I wire all the error nodes religously. Still no luck.
Its very strange, I'm not too sure whats happening here. These things should be able to update in 10ms.

LabVIEW 2013: Source distribution, destination path for post build VI changed?

Hi,
In a source distribution for an embedded target (Real-Time for instance) you specify both "Local destination directory" and "Target destination directory". Let's say the local directory is "C:\MyProject\MyModules\", and the target directory is "C:\" for instance. Then on my build machine my source distribution will end up in "C:\MyProject\MyModules\c\<source distrib files>", and I can then FTP everything from <source distrib files> to the root of my target's c-drive (or in some cases I can just deploy directly after the build, and LabVIEW will move the files to the target for me).
You can also specify a Post Build VI that can do stuff to your source distribution after the build has completed. Such a Post Build VI has an input named "Destination Path" for use inside your Post Build VI, so you can find your files to operate on :-)
In LabVIEW versions prior to 2013 this destination path would be "C:\MyProject\MyModules\c\", but in LabVIEW 2013 the destination path is only "C:\MyProject\MyModules\" thus missing the target destination directory part. Now my Post Build VI can no longer find my source distribution files, unless I inside that VI hardcode the target destination directory - and that isn't a good solution.
Is this changed by design in LabVIEW 2013, or is it a bug?

I don't do a lot of (actually any) source distributions of embedded files, but I can tell you that there was a bug in earlier versions where during an application build, the destination path was reported incorrectly. Perhaps this is related.

How can I build a LabView application that uses the 2012 runtime, on a development system with LabView 2013 or 2014 installed?

I need to build a LabView application .exe to run with the 2012 Runtime, for legacy support. I currently have LabView 2013 installed on my development system, and have 2014 available. How can I build an application that uses the 2012 runtime on this development system? Do I have to downgrade to 2012? Thank you.

We have existing customers that have installed our application that was originally built with 2012 (provided by a contractor that is no longer available). Due to IT regulations, it is far easier to update these customers by simply replacing the .exe file, than creating an install that their IT department must run.
If I have to downgrade to LabView 2012, where can I get the installation for this?

Slow Datasockets after building with AppBuilder 6.0 !?

Hi all. Just a question to see if anyone knows why Im having probs. I
have two programs, one sends data through datasockets to the other (Both
on the same machine). While they are un-compiled, the data being displayed
on the "Receiving" VI is nice & smooth. However, after building with AppBuilder
6, the data updates are jurky and slow - still accurate, but not as smooth
at the uncompiled version. Does anyone have any ideas to fix this problem!??!

I had the same problem with my bold when I downloaded to OS6. When I clicked on a App it would take forever to load. I downloaded OS6 AGAIN from my Desktop Manager and now it works perfectly. Hope this helps....

DAQ devices don't show up in LabVIEW Measurement IO after loading 2014 DS2, uninstalling 2014 DS2, and then reinstalling 2013 DS1.

DAQ devices don't show up in Measurement I/O. I installed LabVIEW ver 2014 DS2 Developer suite and my application no longer worked. I then uninstalled ver 2014 DS2 Developer suite and re-installed ver 2014 DS1 Developer suite which installs as LabVIEW 2013. Now none of the DAQ VIs are present in the Measurement I/O. I have uninstalled all NI software, and deleted that NI software that did not uninstall. LabVIEW ver 2014 DS1 Developer suite installs normally, but I get an "unknown error" when trying to install the DAQ drivers from the CD, and the Device Drivers CD keeps looping with a message indicating "Currently exectuing License Manager."

Try disabling all of your network apapters and running the install.
Also try disabling any virus scanners during the install.

VI with Several XControls on nested tabs takes minutes to load in LabVIEW 2013

Hello all,
I have a VI in LabVIEW 8.2 that includes more than 400 Xcontrols in nested tabs, which opens in seconds (very fast). The code was upgraded to LabVIEW 2013 and now the VI takes minutes to open and in the meantime LabVIEW is unusable with the CPU at 100%.
I am wondering if anybody has experienced this behavior with Xcontrols.

Please note that I am working with jarcTek on this project where we inherite that UI with so many XControls instances.
It is not like there are a lot of different XControls (there are a total of about 10 different type of XControls), but there are a lot of instances of these XControls (several 100) in 3 levels of nested tabs.
Yes, we both had the time to re-recompile the source code between the two posts that jarcTek made. The various XControls are stored in 4 different llbs. Most of the XControls that have a lot of instances are actually pretty simple (very little code there). Finally, yes the VI property (or the XControl library property general settings) indicate that the code is in LabVIEW 2013 [see image below].
You are correct, the delay occurs after the VI is loaded from disk. The loading time is fine (we see the loading progress/dialog since there are a few 100s vis to load with that main UI), but after that everything hangs for several minutes (cpu peg at 100%). We run the Desktop execution toolkit, and we can see a lot of XControl events (1000s) that are fired during this time.
FYI: Unloading (closing) the VI is also very slow.
To put this in perspective, In LabVIEW 8.2 the same code is ready to run immediately after the UI opens.

Module Pre-Load runs slow after reboot

Rebooted testing controller (first time in quite awhile) and now the Module Pre-Load runs significantly slower than it used to. Now takes several minutes when it only took a few seconds before. Affects all sequences run on this station, not just tied to one sequence. Does not appear to be any other applications running that would hog memory. Tried rebooting again with no change. Have not made any changes to Station Options (that we are aware of). Any ideas? Running Test Stand 2013 and Labview 2013.

There could be several reasons. I understand that the affected code modules are written in LabVIEW.
Options:
a) The modules are or contain VIs which are not in the correct version (LV 2013) and have to be recompiled. In order for this option, the LV module adapter in TestStand has to be configured to run VIs in "Development Environment". In "Runtime Engine", the VIs wouldn't work at all.
b) Your harddrive is close to full and is heavily fragmented. If you have a HDD (so no SSD!), you should use the MS Defrag tool to defragment the harddrive.
c) You have changed settings in Anti-Virus-Software or maybe Firewall. This changes don't need to be done by yourself manually... there have been incidences where settings were modified by e.g. hotfixes of software. This could lead to some kind of access restriction which resolves after hitting a timeout.
There are possibly more reasons, but these three are the most prominent i can think off.

Hi all. Since upgrading to LabVIEW 2013, every VI compiles every time I open it (including quick-drop). This really slows things down! Perhaps related, my system tells me I don't have permission/access to modify my LabVIEW ini. Has anyone seen similar, and/or any hints towards a solution?

Too slow after Yosemite upgrade [info]

Hello fellows,
Right After upgrading to Yosemite I started facing an extremely delay almost in everything which I did not face at all before upgrading where they were times that I could use at the same time Chrome, Adobe Photoshop, Word, VMware Machine (Windows7) with insignificant delays:
On booting a white loading bar appears which takes too long before it loads OSX.
Almost in every action I take, I see the beachball spinning for too long.
Sometimes (most of the times) even typing delays a bit and the mouse buttons actions have a remarkable to extreme delay. (No battery or bluetooth problems)

The general feeling is like having a machine of 90's trying to run an OS designed in 10's.

I strongly doubt that CleanMyMac 2 did something bad since I installed it only for this reason and that was today after a week of upgrade, I never had it or knew it before. Also could not do much since I had the demo edition.
I had the same background processes before upgrading (most of them I need them, except -occasionaly - Flip4mac,Paragon,Akamai)
Either way there was nothing new installed after upgrading that might caused the issues, so I will wait for other suggestions before doing something more dramatic like reinstalling the OSX from beginning.

Print VI front panel to file does not work after building executable.

I am using a property and invoke node to print the front panel of my VI to an HTML file. It works fine in the development mode. After Building the application, this subvi will no longer
print the front panel. Is there some special files that included in the build??

You can use the Report Generation VIs to generate the HTML report. Specifically, you could use Append Front Panel Image to Report.vi and Save Report to File.vi to save the image of the panel to an HTML report.
Check out the examples in examples\reports to get a better idea how to use these VIs if you've never used them before.

MacBook Pro 13 early 2011 running slow after Yosemite upgrade

Ihave a early 2011 Macbook Pro 13 and ever since downloading Yosemite from Mavericks my computer speed decreased significantly for every function. I moved over all huge image and music files and still just little progress. So ran report on EtreCheck:

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
    b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
     Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
     COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
     computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
     screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
            because it is three times faster than wireless.
5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.

Mac mini 2010 very slow after update to Mavericks

My mac mini 2010 (2.4 Ghz, 8GB ram) is running really very slow after updating to Mavericks.
Clearly OneDrive is a pain... but had it running on ML as well, and though it is a memory and CPU hog, it never really slowed down the system.
