Labview 2014 DSC install error

Tried to install the new DVD's and received an error trying to load the DSC module SQL server 2005 backwards compatability 64 bit wrapper on windows 7 64 bit enterprise version.
Picture attached is the install error. Second picture is the error when installing a download for sql 2005 from a microsoft website. Sounds like the installer is not checking for newer versions.
Is there a way around the install issue in order to get DSC module installed?

What happens if you select the "Yes" option to continue the installation? Does the installation then continue and complete successfully?
By default, the DSC 2014 installer should install SQL Express 2008. Is 2008 (or a later version) already successfully installed on your machine?
In any case, when running the DSC installer, there should be an option to "select features for install." If you deselect SQL 2008, do you still encounter the error?

Did you confirm the address and port of your slave device is correct? Also, is your device a modbus master device or slave device?
I suggest you to read the help first, and then run the corresponding example
You can run the two example to test if the modbus function is OK. Then you can come back to test your third party device.

LabView install: error writing to file .../cviengerror.ver

Hello,
I'm trying to install LabView and I keep stumbling on this error: "Error writing to file: C:\Windows\system32\cvrite\bin\English\cviengerror.ver"
I've tried reinstalling the application a few times while running the installer as an admin but to no avail. I've checked that the directory is created and I was able to add new files to it and delete them so I don't think this is a permition problem. I'm thinking the PC needs a third party software updated but I have no clue which one it is. Does anybody have an idea on how to proceed?

I am Collin de Wit, an Application Engineer at National Instruments. If I undertsand correctly you are trying to install LabVIEW 2014 (64 bit) and during that installation you are receiving this error?
There are at this moment three things we can verify:
- Is there any anti virus software turned one which might block this feature during installation?
- Are you running the installer as Admin or are you logged in as an Admin? (This is a difference for windows)
- Is this a clean install, or are there older versions or other versions of LabVIEW installed on this computer?

Problems con opcenum after installing LabView 2014

After installing LabView 2014, all other OPC compliant software (Matlab with the OPC Toolbox, Wonderware SCADA, OPC Demo Client from Softing, ...) previously installed on my PC (Windows 7) started to have problems in browsing OPC Servers. They were unable to connect with opcenum service for listing installed OPC servers. After manually unregistering opcenum and registering again as a service (and cleaning the windows register), everything was solved.
So I guess there is a bug with the labview installer that mess things up with the opcenum service. I haven't found anything on the web but in case anyone has the same problem, this is the "manual" solution. Anyway, I would like to ask NI to revise the problem.

I haven´t heard of this issue with a standard LabView install, however there is a known issue with the standard DSC install. Have you installed DSC 7.1? If so you need to go in and modify the DSC install to uninstall the "Keyboard Filter". The filter causes the computer to hang when it attempts to suspend.

Advanced Architectures in LabVIEW - library install error

Hello,
Recently I have some time to practice LV further, and I want to continue with the Advanced Architectures in LabVIEW online training.
I have downloaded the exercise manual and files from NI.com.
Just at the beginning of the manual, we are asked to install first the "STM API" library under user.lib. (Excercise 2-1 "Evaluating an API design").
This installer throws an error, and it does not install anything.
I have LabVIEW 2014. This online tutorial seems a bit outdated, since the pdf manual talks about LabVIEW 2011.
Is that possible to use the "Advanced Architectures in LabVIEW" self-paced online training with LV 2014?
The error msg does not contain too much hints about problem... (the installer does find the proper LV2014 path)

Even then, you could just install the latest STM library via VIPM. It is in the LabVIEW Tools Network.

Unknown error when adding a DAQ assistant to a blank VI in LabView 2014

Hello,
I currently have an issue when I try to add a DAQ assistant to a blank VI in LabView 2014 Service Pack 1, version 14.0.1.
It was working previously and has now stopped working. I have reinstalled LabView 2014 but the problem still exists.
I have also reinstalled NI-DAQmx 14.5 but this did not cure the problem either.
I have made sure that the C:\Program files\National Instruments\MAX folder has Read & execute, List folder contents, Read function allowed for the user account in use on Windows 8.1

As soon an the DAQ assistant is dropped onto the VI block diagram an error window pops up stating that "An unknow error has occurred" with an ok button. This does not force LV to close, the DAQ assistant icon stays on the block diagram, the block is non functional i/o signals available to wire to, I can not access any properties for the DAQ assistant. Other than that LV appears to be functioning.

LabVIEW 2014 Install failed

They did it again...
Tried downloading the new LV 2014 version via the NI Update tool (which first popped-up for update of itself).
Everything went smoothly during the download (except that there was some conflict with NI Vision - but I was not offered to update NI Vision?) but ignoring this, eventually I was told that the install failed because of some permission issue with a datasocket forlder and that I should login as an Administrator.
I AM AN ADMINISTRATOR on my machine!
I tried to find the downloaded installer to at least try to run it as Administrator (Windows 7 64 bits), but the download was nowhere to be found (thanks NI Update...not).
No comments.

Let me comment:
- NI Updater prompted me that an update of itself was available. A 110 MB update no less (this is an updater!).
- Once this was over, I was prompted to take a look at the cool updates available: LabVIEW 2014 64bit and 32bit, some MathScript RT and FPGA stuff, as I recall.
It was a bit late and I was dreading the GB+ download so I only checked the LV2014 64bit version. It took some time but eventually it fired up (no download option or anything), albeit with a cryptic message about the lack of a NI Vision Toolkit for 2014 (I don't recall the details, but I remain under the impression that NI Vision 2013 was not compatible with LV 2014?). Anyhow, as I was just curious to check which bugs had been fixed (I watched the useless promotional video for LV 2014, which is a model of corporate marketing with zero informational value and had a look at the "what's new" page, with a feeling of deja vu all over again).
As I said, the install failed because of permissions rights for a specific folder. Since I could either retry or cancel, I did both (in that order), with the retry option running in a loop and the cancel one leaving me flat face in the mud with no way of finding the installer to try and run with Administrator privileges. I tried the usual NI Downloads folder, and I have no idea where this putative NI Updater Install folder may be, so for me that was "let's call it a week and wait for SP1".
I had install problems pretty much every year since I recall using LV, but up to now I was DOWNLOADING the installer from NI's website and I had a handful of versions, toolkits, etc. My installation is currently pretty clean, with only LV 2014 64 and 32 bits, so not really that challenging, I would say. At the very least, I would expect a 110 MB NI Updater to do the job properly.
But, hey, silly me, I probably just need to get me a LabVIEW Installer Certification... Where can I sign up?

Cloud Dashboard not installing in Labview 2014

Hi guys,
I'm trying to use Cloud Dashboard with LabVIEW 2014.
I'm following https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-38359 but the attachement at the bottom of the instructions does not open in VIPM Labview Tools Network. Instead I get the general page with 244 different tools but without the Cloud Dashboard tool.
Does anyone know if there is a incompatibility with the 2014 LabVIEW with the Cloud Dashborad tools/pallete/examples?

DSC license error (#1550)

Hi everyone,
I am using a controller built in LabVIEW(by another company) and deployed to a terminal in my lab, which works fine.
I am trying to plan for redundancy in case that terminal fails.
So I have installed LabVIEW 2014 first and then ran the controller installers(It seems to use runtime engine 2011).
Once I run the controller I get this error#1550:

This controller is based on Modbus TCP;
I have also tried this without installing labview 2014, just following the installers. But the error message is still the same.
At this point I am guessing this has to do with the runtime engine 2011 and the DSC 2014 from labview 2014 not really comunicating with each ither.
I would try installing DSC 2011, but I can't find it anywhere with my (academic)license.
Normally I would just contact the company that provided the controller, but they went bankrupt...

Did you bother to read the last post before going and doing things that didn't make sense?
The DSC module has its own runtime engine (RTE). The DSC RTE requires a license per computer. It's not included with the DSC development nor is it included with the LabVIEW RTE. If you only install the LabVIEW RTE, you won't have access to the DSC functionality. You require a license specifically for the DSC RTE.
Hopefully you'll read that part this time. Now, let's address what you did after ignoring the last post. The program requires the RTE that corresponds to the development environment you built it in. You mentioned it's looking for 2011. That means it was built in 2011. You'll need the 2011 RTE to run that program. Based on the DSC errors you're seeing, you're working with an executable that will require the corresponding DSC RTE. The "latest" is useless to you.

Labview 2014 crashing(windows 7)

Hello for some reason my labview 2014 crashes when i try to open the labview application. It was working fine until yesterday but not having any luck today. Also i cannot see my labview software in the programs and feature section on the control panel even though i have administrative privileges in my computer. I have attached my error report below.Any help would be appreciated.

In Programs and Features are you looking under National Instruments Software for LabVIEW 2014? If so, and LabVIEW is not listed, have you tried re-installing the software?
If it is listed under National Instruments Software, it sounds like there may be some software corruption causing the error. The next step would be to try repairing the program. If this does not work, you can try force re-install the program (link below) or uninstalling and reinstalling it.

DSC MAX error while starting

Hi Guys,
I am recieving a strange MAX error (see attached file) when i launch MAX from my labview software. I am unable to create new database. The following is my configuration
I am using Labview 2011 on Windows Server 2008 (32-bit) with following add-ons
1) Datalogging and Supervisory Control Module
2) Real time Module
When i re-install the DSC module, it just shows installation successful but the same problem persists. Do i need to uninstall the whole Labview package and install again ?

The error dialog suggests checking out this document: Causes of an "Unexpected Error" from Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX), which then points to another document that is more specific to the error message you received NI Software Failure When PAE (Physical Address Extension) is Enabled on Windows Operating Systems. If you try disabling PAE, do you still receive the same error?
