LabVIEW & 3DS Max

Hi, evry !!!
Currently I'm interested in using 3DS Max - build objects in LabVIEW.
Has anybody had any experience a success in doing that?
That would be GREAT if someone share knowledge 'bout it a little .
Wish well and thanx in adv.
SH.

Hi, Hillary.
As far as I get, in the forum tree you proposed there is a very complicated way of converting 3D objects into "labview-readable" form described.
This method has nothing to do with plain ASE-file opening. Pity pity.
From complicated 3D-scene I've gone to:
1. Creating green sphere of r=100 in 3DS Max
2. Converting it to ASE
3. Read ASE from LV-vi (without errors, by the by)...but...
The screen remains black!
STL-file refused to be opened at all,
WRL file gives tha same result as ASE.
Do You have any example a success ?
Thanx in adv.
SH.

  • Placed PNG images which are made in 3ds max are not shown correctly in Ilustrator

    Hello,
Why placed PNG images (renders) which are made in 3ds max (and then photoshoped) are not shown correctly in Ilustrator. Images appear very noise so you can't see almost a thing. the same pictures (renders) made in Revit appear ok.
Is there a solution to solve this issue?
    Thanks.

You would have to provide screenshots of how it looks in PS, including the channels visible. MAX may have embedded extra channels that throw off AI. And of course check whether your PNG is actually 8bit, not 16bit.

  • 3ds max can't save to lion server, 3ds max can't save to lion server

I know there have been many discussions in the past few weeks.
Please if any one can help me with a sollution or work around I will appreciate it.
We have a mac mini server and both mac's and windows in the office.
All work perfect except 3ds max can't save or open files from the lion server. All other programs work perfect from the windows machines to the lion server.
    Anybody found a solution yet?

No I'm still going around in circles. It's infuriating, everything else is working fine, I just have this one issue with the .max files.
I phoned Apple yesteday, hoping that they may help as we have an AppleCare Protection Plan that supposedly has software support. They have not managed to help in anyway, and have suggested that I take out some kind of cross platform support at extra cost, although they may not be able to help either.
They are saying it is third party software vendors responsibility to sort out a fix, which annoys me, as we haven't changed the third party software, we've upgraded the server and now our workflow is broken. I have read of other people that have contacted Autodesk about the issue and they have said that the problem is down to Apple using their own SMB in Lion Server, but haven't mentioned any kind of fix/workaround.
I don't know whether switching the servers SMB off and running SMBup may help. It's not something I really want to do, but I'm really running out of ideas.

  • Windows XP SP2 32bit and 3ds max 2010

Hi. I installed on my MacBook Pro Bootcamp and Windows XP. I downloaded the trial version od 3ds max 2010. However, when I try to install it a message pops up "Cant find End User License Agreement". This is a brand new Mac and none Autodesk software was installed here before. I dont know what to do, and I must run 3ds max. Can someone help me? The version of Bootcamp is 2.0

Interesting. The Autodesk documentation says you ought to be able to install 3ds max 2010 on your configuration. So I don't think we're looking at a generalised compatibility problem:

Just checking a couple of things from the installation instructions:
Does your XP user account have full administrative rights?
Have you closed all applications and background applications prior to starting the install?

  • PNG Renders from 3Ds Max turn pale when placed in InDesign , Why?

    Hello.
When I place my renders from 3DS Max 2010 in Adobe InDesign CS6  with OS Windows 7 they become pale, even when exported as a PDF. I have tried Googling solutions but this keeps bringing up transparency settings.
I know this information is vague but I do not know what other information is needed.
Does anyone know why this is happening or a solution?
    Thank you

You'll have a difficult time finding many people who place PNG files directly in InDesign.
That said, here is something you should check out. There is a setting for Applying Gamma Correction in the options when placing a PNG file. It was posted as an obscure feature in the most recent InDesignSecrets.com podcast:
    http://indesignsecrets.com/watch_listen/indesignsecrets-podcast-204
Worth checking out to see if that might work.

  • 3DS Max On Parallels or Boot Camp?

    Hi,
I want to install 3DS Max and go back forth between 3DS max and other programs. I installed a 30 trail on Parallels and it goes really slow, I haven't even tried to render. On the other hand, if I install it on Boot Camp, I would have to go back and forth and it would be a pain. Would anyone know how get 3Ds Max to run better on Parallels or an easier solution than going back and forth from Boot Camp? Also, is it possible to connect an ethernet cable to PC to the mac and go back and forth?
    Thanks a lot!,
    Zevie

I would think you should at least give Boot Camp a test drive. The problem with either Parallels or Fusion is the sharing resources part. It's great for jumping back and forth but system resources can get stretched thin in a hurry.
I'm pretty sure that in Parallels your video performance is going to be a serious issue. In a virtualized environment like Parallels or Fusion this video performance is fine for Word, Excel, Acrobat etc., but doesn't come close in apps that require a big contribution from the video card.
If it's Vista that you loaded via Parallels, then check the Windows Experience Index that can tell you a lot about system performance.

  • Lion Server and 3DS Max files

    Hi,
We have just gone from using an Xserve running 10.4.11 with an attached Xraid, to a Mac Mini Server running 10.7.3 and an attached Promise Pegasus R6 12TB Thunderbolt raid.
Everything is fine except one thing. The PC users running a mixture of Windows XP and Windows 7 can no longer open their 3DS Max (.max) files. I have had a search around and it seems that other people have encountered the same problem, but as far as I can make no one has found a solution. They just get a File Open Failed message.
If anybody has come across and resolved this problem or could offer any suggestions it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Apple should be brought up on UI crimes for the mess that is permissions in Lion.  It is easy once you understand what they are doing and where the tools are hidden.
So first, ignore the File Sharing tab as it is useless and feature poor.  Instead, do this:
    1:  Launch Server.app
2:  Select your server under the Hardware section in the left column.
3:  Click on the Storage tab
4:  Drill down to find the parent folder of your share point
5:  Use the Gear popup menu to access the Edit and propagate features
This shows an example.  When you choose the Edit Permissions... option, you will see a window like the following:
The three entries are the POSIX permissions.  They represent UNIX Owner (root), Group (Wheel), and Everyone (Other).  This is an EXAMPLE Folder.  Yours will be different.  These permissions do not inherit!  If you change the group from Wheel to staff, it will mean nothing in relation to the permissions.  You must ADD another entry to the table.  The new entry is an Access Control Entry and establishes an ACL (access control list).  The ACL will inherit if defined as such.
So in this example, say you have a folder owned by the local admin and by the admin group.  Press the + button and then set that group to your departmental group.  Then set permissions to Read/Write.  Press OK.  This will return you to the main window.  Click on the Gear button again and choose propagate permissions to cascade the new permission set through all existing files.
You should disconnect clients and then reestablish a new sharing session to ensure you are seeing the proper permissions model.
Apple should be ashamed at the poor job of showing the difference between POSIX and ACLs.  This is really a step backward as compared to older versions of server.

  • Which iMac 27 upgrades for Autodesk Revit and 3ds Max

    Hi,
I am an architecture student and I'm about to purchase a iMac 27. I will be using bootcamp to run Revit and 3ds Max and was wondering what upgrades I should make (if any).
    512GB SSD or a 1TB fusion drive
    3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i5 or a 3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
    8GB, 16GB or 32GB
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2GB GDDR5 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5
Any advice would greatly be appreciated.
    Thanks

    I don't have CS6...
    1) I would max out the video card. FCP X and Motion 5 uses the GPU over the CPU for processing power. Once you buy your new iMac you can't upgrade this...
    2) FCP X and Motion 5 will use all the ram you can throw at it. I have 16 GB of ram and both programs at times uses all 16 GB of ram. I really should bump up my ram to 32 GB. I would say 16 GB is the minimum for video.
    3) The processor would be last on my list. Computers are really fast even with an i5 processor. Once you buy your new iMac you can't upgrade this...
This is the iMac I bought last year:
    27" iMc mid-2011
    3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
    16GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4x4GB
2TB Serial ATA Drive + 256GB Solid State Drive
    AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5

  • Rotation Problem on 3DS Max 7 Scene Export

We have been experiencing some anomalies with animations
exported from 3DS Max 7. We have a set of linked groups that are
animated along a path and some of the groups also have rotation
keys. The path animation is always fine, but the rotations will
sometimes stop short of their destination (even though the key
exists in Max and it plays properly in Max). If the object happens
to stop rotating before the timeline finishes, the object will
continue, very slowly, to rotate to it's final destination by the
    end of the timeline.
Our animations are primariliy of vehicles, and most of the
problems occur with tractor-trailer vehicles where the trailer is
linked to the tractor - so on a turn the trailer never completely
    straightens out. Any ideas?

Thanks, sws (sorry didn't catch your reply earlier)...
It's not so much my own learning how to control rotation of the object I'm concerned about (though I can't imagine ever coming to see this type as preferable!) but that a non-3d-literate recipient of my 3dpdf would be confronted with something they had no control over and simply not have the time or patience to persist with.
As to your saying other methods would make seeing the whole object difficult or impossible, I just don't see that. Looking at any of the Kaon examples shows how really simple - and intuitive - this can be.
Incidentally, I'm now wondering what are these other types of rotation you refer to? Other types within A3d? How can they be accessed?
EDIT: I'm thinking I maybe didn't describe the difficulty too well (always find it hard to put 3d transformation into words!). As you see, the Kaon objects do "turn on all 3 axes" but are "grounded" - ie as if attached to a fixed plane and do not simply drift around like an astronaut's toy!
    Sorry can't explain better.
    My thanks for your time...

  • Color management - going from 3ds Max to Photoshop

I'm trying to develop a workflow for bringing renders from 3ds Max into Photoshop, and having them look the same in both programs. The issue is that Max isn't color managed, so things can shift.
There's a good article on the subject here:
    http://www.artstorm.net/journal/2009/07/color-management-wide-gamut-dell-2408/
So, to repeat what Johan is describing in the article, here's a test I've been doing:
    - Put my dell U2410 monitor in Standard mode (which is wide gamut)
    - Set the monitor profile to Dell U2410 D6500 (the monitor isn't calibrated yet; I've just been using this profile for the tests)
    - Create a scene in Max, and tweak the render so that the colors look correct to me in this non-managed setup
    - Save the image
    - Open the image in Photoshop (with working space of sRGBIEC1966-2.1), which of course gives the "missing profile" message
    - Now, if I'm understanding Johan correctly, if I assign that Dell profile, the image should look identical in Photoshop to what I saw in Max (because I'm assigning the profile that was in effect at the time of creation). And if I assign the Working RGB (sRGB...), I should expect to see the brighter colors become desaturated, due to the smaller gamut.
So...what's the problem? Well, sometimes I get those exact results consistently...assign the Dell profile and it looks corrrect; assign the working sRGB and it's desaturated. But other times, for no apparent reason, I'll get different results: Assign the Dell profile and it's OVERsaturated; assign the working sRGB and it looks correct (i.e., exactly as it does in Max). Things have been in that weird state for the past few hours...I keep getting those same wierd results...earlier today I would consistantly get the results as predicted by the article. Yesterday it was the same thing...it shifted back and forth a few times between working and not working...nothing changed as far as I can tell.
    Any ideas what's going on?

I think this is overcomplicating it, and with a quite a few stumbling blocks on the way.
To name one: using the monitor profile in the document accomplishes only one thing - turning display color management off in Photoshop, thus reducing it to the same non-color managed state as 3ds Max. Since the two profiles are the same, no change happens, and you just get what's known as a null transform. IOW you gain nothing and lose a lot.
The two will be consistent - and both wrong. That's why this is never recommended.
Now this is important, so pay attention: If you do this with the Dell in native wide gamut mode, you will be scr*wing up your files beyond recognition. Take that file into a properly color managed scenario, and it will be miles off.
I think the only workable approach in this case, since you have to use software that isn't color managed, is to put the monitor in sRGB mode. There's just no way you can work with a wide gamut display in this scenario and keep your sanity. Or, as I suggested in an earlier post, sell it and get a standard display.
For this to work, you need an sRGB-type monitor profile. That can be straight up sRGB for "close enough", or a calibrator-produced profile made with the unit in sRGB mode. That would be better for Photoshop, for 3ds Max it doesn't make any difference because it'll just ignore the profile anyway.
EDIT: I should add, just in case it's still unclear, that the reason sRGB "works" in a non-color managed setting while other profiles and color spaces don't, is simply because that's the way an average monitor displays. The Dell U2410 is not an average monitor. If we all had U2410s, and I mean everybody, then Adobe RGB would have been the consensus standard. But we don't and it's not. So you have to play by the majority rule.

  • Director 11.5 with 3DS Max 2010

I haven't written a line of Lingo since version 6 of director, however, I am currently working a project that requires the use of the 3D capabilities director has that Flash just isn't powerful enough to handle. I need help with my shockwave file and I have found very little relative documentation on this, except for some based on older versions of Director. I import my scene into Direct just fine...all textures and lighting is intact...perfect.  I am able to connect lingo to models in the scene, however I am not able to connect to and attach lights and cameras already in the scene to an object (using addChild)...I can create and attach new cameras and lights just fine, but when I try to reference an existing camera or light created in 3ds max and imported with the 3D scene the camera or light will not respond...any ideas? Hints? I've been following the "Dean's Tutorial" however it seems maybe 11.5 has something I am missing? The Director help files are not too useful...no examples...any help is much appreciated

Ah., i was able to get this to work, but I had to reference lights and camera by number and not by name
    what I was using:
      p3Dmember = sprite(me.spriteNum).member
      pCharacter = p3Dmember.model("controlObj")
      myLightr = p3Dmember.light("light01")
      pCharacter.addChild(myLight,#preserveWorld)
    What actually works:
      p3Dmember = sprite(me.spriteNum).member
      pCharacter = p3Dmember.model("controlObj")
      myLightr = p3Dmember.light[1]
      pCharacter.addChild(myLight,#preserveWorld)
So we cannot reference scene lights and cameras by name if they are preexisting? However, we can reference models in the scene by name? Any reasoning to this?

  • Best windows operating system for Revit/Autocad/3ds Max on 2.8GHz,4GB Pro

From the reviews I've read Autocad seems to have some trouble running on Windows 7. Has anyone been able to run Revit/3ds Max on Windows 7 (It's not listed as a compatible system...)
Would it be better to purchase Vista or XP instead?
also-I'm not sure if I should go with the 64 bit or 32 bit operating system.
Ugh...I'm lost! Thank you for your help!

I am going through the same problem with v9 and 2008. I am running a MacPro workstation with bootcamp to Vista. I was using v9 fine until I upgraded to 2008 and then the licensing issues happened when switching between Mac/PC. I also upgraded to Leopard so I don't know who is to blame. I want to know if Autdesk changed the licensing technology or if the newer bootcamp in Leopard is the problem. Now I'm wishing I didn't get the Mac thinking I could run core apps like 3DSMax.

Sometimes CS6 don`t let us paint/draw on some IDs of a 3D Model (DAE imported from 3Ds Max) without any Reason. Is there a Shortcut for freezing IDs on 3D Models?
We didn`t had that Problem CS4. Its happening without any Reason. While we are painting Textures on a Model its suddenly "freezes" the Polys with certain IDs. The IDs where putted in 3ds Max. Anyone know this Problem or may have a Solution for this? We tried a lot but couldn`t find a Solution. The only Thing we can do is reimporting the 3d Model again. Than it will work for a while till this Problem comes up again.

I recently bought a new mac pro 2 quad 3.0 as a workstation. I have two hardrives installed one for mac os system and the other one is for windows and bootcamp.
The problem is that after using 3dsmax or any autodesk program for a while. I have to call autodesk every day to activate my software. Tired of reactivating the software everyday...

  • Parallels + Autodesk 3Ds Max design 2010

Hey! I recently downloaded 3ds max design 2010 (student trial, 6mth lease if it matters) and it downloaded successfully onto my computer. I currently have autodesk autocad 2008 student version which works perfectly fine. When I go to run the 3ds max, it starts up normally and then roughly 30 seconds later parallels shuts down completely and gives a 'fatal error' message apologizing for the shut down and asks to have a written reason as to what happened to send off (which i doubt actually does anything). Does anyone know how to fix this? I don't understand why it keeps occurring, i've tried to restart it like 10 times and it happens every time. Thanks!

    Hi all,
I received a response from the tech development side of
Autodesk on the Max 9 and
    Shockwave 3D issue.
The reply was a little different to the one I posted before.
I have been told it was
not a mistake but an incompatibility with the higher bit
    functionality of Max 9. So
that's why it was removed. But it is temporary.
    Was told:
"This problem has been flagged and is currently being worked
    on.
We will have some service packs sometime in the near future.
    Cannot disclose a date
    at the moment."
