LabVIEW 7.0 utilize the real-time functions in Window 2000 Real-time.

Can an application written with LabVIEW 7.0 utilize the real-time functions in Window 2000 Real-time.

The LabVIEW DATA ACQUISITION HANDBOOK (not sure of the exact title), has examples of simultaneous I/O, which is what I assume you need.
Clock- controlled analog output (to drive the stepper), and analog input (to read your inputs), sound like the ticket for you.
You could load the output buffer with a pattern that drives your stepper, and get multiple input samples for every step, all precisely timed.

  • I would like Adobe to utilize the non-legacy save/open Windows 7 dialog box

So I downloaded the trial for CS5.5 Master Suite and found that the open/save dialog box is the same thing from CS5.  This is a huge disappointment.
Reason being is explained right here: http://www.sanneblad.com/2010/06/18/customizing-the-open-and-save-dialogs-in-adobe-cs5-for -windows/
Common File Dialog is being used still by CS5 and CS5.5 which is outdated and legacy.
[Starting with Windows Vista, the Open and Save As common dialog boxes have been superseded by the Common Item Dialog. We recommended that you use the Common Item Dialog API instead of these dialog boxes from the Common Dialog Box Library.]
The Open dialog box lets the user specify the drive,  directory, and the name of a file or set of files to open. You create  and display an Open dialog box by initializing an OPENFILENAME structure and passing the structure to the GetOpenFileName function.
The Save As dialog box lets the user specify the drive, directory, and name of a file to save. You create and display a Save As dialog box by initializing an OPENFILENAME structure and passing the structure to the GetSaveFileName function.
Explorer-style Open and Save As dialog boxes provide user-interface features that are similar to the  Windows Explorer. However, the system continues to support old-style Open and Save As dialog boxes for applications that must be consistent with the old-style user interface.
In addition to the difference in appearance, the Explorer-style and  old-style dialog boxes differ in their use of custom templates and hook  procedures for customizing the dialog boxes. However, the Explorer-style  and old-style dialog boxes have the same behavior for most basic  operations, such as specifying a file name filter, validating the user's  input, and getting the file name specified by the user. For more  information about the Explorer-style and old-style dialog boxes, see Open and Save As Dialog Box Customization.
The following illustration shows a typical Explorer-style Open dialog box.

It appears it would be a simple retooling of the code in order for this to work.  I truly hope that Windows 8 will force all software developers to utilize the new Common Item Dialog API.

We've been trying to - but we still have to support XP and Vista.

    Um, no, not that simple.

  • IPod nano not fully functional on Windows 2000 (Charging)

1st: I love iTunes and my previous iPod mini. My mini functioned perfectly from day one with my exact same desktop setup (Windows 2000, Dell, USB 2.0, etc).
I've spent hours trying to figure out why my nano wouldn't charge. Finally, I found these forums and read that "Windows 2000 has a bug". I say this is utter nonsense. I had a mini for months on the exact same computer/OS and it charged just fine thank you.
The only way that I can charge my nano (hopefully it will work, the indicator is essentially useless on win2k) is to enable disk mode and watch the flashing "Do Not Disconnect..." symbol across most of the screen, with a tiny, non-animated battery+lightning bolt icon in the corner. Is it charged? I don't know. Is it actually charging? I don't know. Will I know when it's 80% charged - as per the advertising specs for a fast-charge? Nope - will just have to guess.
What about listening to my nano while it's docked/connected? Nope - can't do that on Windows 2000. Can I try any of the features, games, or hear how a song sounds while docked? Nope.
Apple: With iTunes and the mini, you had a full Mac convert waiting for my next computer purchase to get an iBook. Now, I'm not soo sure. Windows 2000 is on tons of computers - I would guess a pretty large proportion of your iPod customer base even compared with OSX. If you can't fix this bug, and I know you can given that the mini functioned perfectly, I will demand a full refund and unhappily go get a refub mini (now that I sold mine the day I went out to get a nano).

I'm in the same boat as Noah (Win2K, charging problems, etc.). And the moment I unmount my nano (using either of the methods you mention above), it stops charging. At least I assume it is actually charging while mounted, because I have the lightning bolt but no way to see how much of a charge unless I unmount it. But I can't listen to music while I have it plugged in, and that is sure a disappointment. Apple people, please fix!
As a little aside, I don't seem to be able to choose whether or not to "enable disk use". The box is already checked and grayed-out so I don't have the option to un-check it. Could this be another Win2K weirdness?

  • Initial install of itunes and quick time locked up Windows 2000 @ restart

I installed itunes and quicktime from the disc provided. After install the installer asked to restart the computer and I clicked yes. It has not booted since. Windows 2000 Pro locks up about 75% through process. I did hear the speakers activate then nothing. I have attempted a hard boot and restart in safe mode without success. My emergency disk did not work. Where should I go next?

    cho,
Please see the following document from our web site (http://zone.ni.com/devzone/devzoneweb.nsf/Opendoc?openagent&54AC963DA62ADD9C862569EE007BA3AD). It is for setting up OPC, but 90% of it will apply to your case since OPC is ActiveX based on multiple computers.
If you think that this document will not help you out, then search google.com for "+install +dcom +windows +xp" and it will give you a lot of good results that will get you started.
Once DCOM is installed, you can use the Automation Open to get the object from the other machine.

  • Does LabView support the Named Pipe function for interprocess communications

I have searched around ni.com enough to know that LabView for Unix supports this feature but don't know about for the PC running Win 2000 Pro.
I am trying to have a LabView program that collects data and displays it using another program (non-LabView) running concurrently. The non-LabView program would display the data in a PPI window. We would like to use a Named Pipe method to transfer the data from the LabView program to the non-LabView program. Can that be done using LabView?
    Thanks.
    SonarRob

There is a project on OpenG I have started which does implement pipes
access under Windows in a similar way as has been available for Unix
    already in LabVIEW.
The library is still to be considered Beta and there is no OpenG
Commander package yet. I actually intend to also port it over to Linux
but that could take a while. If you want to get the library for the
time being, you will probably have to learn how to use CVS to access
that library on the CVS servers on sourceforge. Alternatively you can
access the repository over the web based CVS interface under
    http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/opengtoolkit/pipe/. Here you will
have to download everything in the "source" directory and if you want
to see some examples for their use also the "test" directory.

  • HT201066 Does the screen record function work with quick time pro for windows?

I am looking at purchasing QuickTime Pro for Winodiws (yes I will be getting a mac soon...) and I was wondering if the screen recorder function that is with quick time on macs is still available on windows?

Screen recording is part of QuickTime X, not QuickTime Pro. QuickTime X is only available for Macs.

  • How exactly does the logical shift function work?

I think I am missing something very basic here - I am trying to left shift an 8 bit unsigned integer by one place (x<<1)in each iteration of a while loop. So if I start with a number, say 18, the first iteration I get 36, then 72, 144 and after this 32, 64 and so on. I'm not able to do this apparently simple operation in LabVIEW. I tried the logical shift function and a formula node, but both dont give me what I need. The formula node appears to be close in that it gives me 18,36,72,144 but after that I get 255 rather than 32. I dont understand what the logical shift function is doing here. I have attached a vi here that shows what I am trying to do. Any help explaining the mistake I am making will be greatly apprec
    iated.
    Thanks.

You have the inputs confused. If you want to left-shift by 1 at each iteration, the "1" goes on the upper "y" terminal and the number from the shift register (the "shiftee") goes at the bottom. (see attached modification).

  • Writing LabVIEW application on Solaris that invokes a function in a shared library

In the "Call Library Function" Configure window I choose a Shared Library "xxx.so" file and select the Function Name "Foo" (written in C). It happens that function "Foo" calls another function "Bar" (also written in C) that resides in a different Shared Library (in /usr/dt/lib). After clicking "OK", a window comes up with the message "/xxx/xxx.so fatal relocation error ... symbol Bar: referenced symbol not found." Is there a way to get around this (such as search a list of libraries)? Combining the libraries is not an option; they are very large and belong to different software packages.

    Thanks for your quick response.
Yes, usr/dt/lib is in the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable. Is LabVIEW supposed to search LD_LIBRARY_PATH libraries in addition to the one I specify in the "Call Library Function" Configure window? That's what I would like it to do, but there still seems to be a problem. -j_b

  • LabVIEW program will not run on Windows 2000

I need to run parts of a LabVIEW program on a PC which does not contain all the hardware required to run the full version. This used to work on Windows 95/98 but on Windows 2000 I get error message 'Capabilty not supported. VI was stopped at node 0x1BC of subvi "Out Port.vi"'. This program is very large and full of references of this type, is there an easy way around this problem?

    Hi,
I might be barking up the wrong tree here, but Windows 2000 is built on top of the architecture of Windows NT. Win NT/2000 treats direct memory access differently to Win95/98.
Have a look at the following link and see if that helps - unfortunately it involves re-writing (well, re-linking) the .vi's that are calling the out port.vi. The link is in reference to writing to the parallel port through direct memory access, but the .vi's are based on writing to any memory location.

  • BUG in IMS 5.2 P 1 on Windows 2000 : not using the correct DNS servers

    Hi everyone,
I encountered a queer bug in Ims 5.2 on Windows 2000.
Let me explain it to all of you to avoid spending time and money debugging this problem.
The problem may occur on Windows 2000 Server if the server used was formerly configured to obtain its IP address from a DHCP server (before using it for mail purposes).
Windows 2000 doesn't delete its DHCP client configuration even if the machine is re-configured with a static IP.
It stores the information in an interface registry key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces
If you install IMS52 after this, the server will use the DNS servers configured in the DHCP configuration rather than the ones specified in the static IP config to lookup the MXs.
So if the nameservers configured in the DHCP config are not reachable, the smtp server will systematically fail sending outbond mails.
To avoid this, locate the DHCP interface key in the Registry and remove it.
    Remarks :
I know that this situation is not common but it may occur in certain occasions for people like me who are making demonstrations on clients sites.
I'm not sure it is specifically related to DHCP rather than static config. I would say that IMS uses the first interface found in the registry (in alphabetical order) even if this interface is not active...
A good idea is to remove completely from the registry all the interfaces keys not currently used by the system.
Hope this will help some of you.
    Best regards,
    Vincent MAZARD
