Labview application crash

Hi
I have a labview application which generates an Access violation (0xc0000005).
Unfortunately it appears to crash at different points in the program execution.
The program is running an ESS task and has usually run serveral temperature cycle before it crashes. Other times it runs fine.
Looking at task manager, its not running out of memory.
Its not accessing any network location.
Everything is contained within the EXE except for some VIs which are called dynamically and these VIs are contained in a LabVIEW packed library and installed on the same drive as the application.
I was hoping the log file would provide some useful information that would point to the problem

The reference to the lvlibp vi in the lvlog file make no sense as 'cal 8722.vi' wouldn't have been loaded during the ESS routines.
Are there any tools available that would make the dmp file a bit more readable?
Any sensable suggests welcome.

It seems to me that the issue is coming from some sort of memory violation. It's possible that a certain process is running out of virtual memory. Have you also tried checking the cal 8722.vi to ensure that it works correctly? I know that it's not being called but if it is mentioned in the error report then it's definitely worth making sure it works.
Additionally, make sure all of your references are being closed properly. It could be that if the program is (or was) stopped suddenly, perhaps using the abort button instead o the stop button, that the references are still open and that is causign the issue.
What does your program look like? If you attach the code I may be able to more easily determine the cause of the error.

    The error is always "move block" and leads me to believe that it is a windows memory manager issue but I cannot resolve it. The application connects to an ethernet GPIB interface and to 10 Opto22 Ethernet brains via activeX. The processor runs about 25%, there are no apparent memory leaks, and there is at least 300Mb of free ram when the crashes occur. Any suggestions?

  • Application crashes after closing LabVIEW instance with Scilab 5.2.2

    I use LV 8.21 with the LabVIEW to Scilab Gateway software Version 1.1 (new version from NI homepage)
    I have Scilab Version 5.2.2 installed. We will do some calculation with the LabVIEW Scilab script node.
    Mainly use a call "exec (functionA,-1) Scilab script node. The functionA is a scriptfile outside of the application.
    So far everything is working fine, I can build a LabVIEW application with the application builder.
    If I run the application the calculation inside the Scilab script node are proceeding; I can call
    it many times in a loop without no problem.
    But if I close the instance (the VI with the Scilab script node inside) the application crashes.
    The same problem I have in the LabVIEW development environment
    Is there a way to "unload" Scilab before I close the VI without a crash. After the Scilab
    calculation I have to close the calling VI and call some other VIs for further calculation
    (but this VIs have no Scilab call)
    I tried with the "exit" and "quit" command in Scilab script node, no success
    any suggestion

    Hello
    thanks for the advice. I tried with version 5.1.1   ...    but no success!
    So I went straight back to version 4.1.1 and it works fine, of course I had to remove the comments from the script node
    So fare I can work with this version.
    So what are the time schedule to fix this problem? It is a very useful tool an I would like to use the latest version of scilab and not an old version.

  • Application crashes when calling DLL built with LabVIEW 2011

    Hello everybody,
    Our application calls DLLs built with LabVIEW 2010 SP1. We installed LabVIEW 2011 and built some DLLs. So far so good. If we start our application and run 2010 DLLs it still works fine. If we run a 2011 DLL just once no error happens, but if we try to run the same 2011 DLL our application crashes reporting the error below. I saved the code for 2010 version and built a DLL and it works fine. Does anyone know why?
    Thank you in advance.

    On that note, you should be able to create DLLs in 2010 and run them with 2011, correct??  In my case, I have a 2010 built DLL (talking to sbRIO), most of the functions work when run in 2011, but a couple of them lock up LabVIEW on the desktop (but not the sbRIO), no lock ups happen with 2010 on the desktop.

  • Labview 2011 application crashes from time to time

    Hi together,
    from time to time my LV application crashes. This happens in different stages of the program.
    I use some ext. DLLs written in C, some simple IO hardware and some serial communications with ext. hardware.
    My feeling is that it has s.th. to do with the upgrade from LV 851 to  LV 2011, but I'm not sure.
    On target PC and on develpment PC we're using WXP Pro. SP3.
    Many Thanks.

    The crash dialog from LV indicates (most common reason) an unhandled exception thrown by a component used in your application. Therefore, the OS shuts down the process of this exception, in your case LV.
    From experience, external code is a prominent source for such exceptions. You should try removing all DLL calls as a first step for pin-pointing the source of the crash. If the crash is not occuring anymore, it is most likely that a call has invalid parameters (e.g. empty array instead of a predefined buffer).
    Try to boil down the issue as much as possible. To be honest, this could be a very time consuming issue, but you have little to no choice i assume.
    Sidenote: Do you have the Desktop Execution Trace Toolkit? If yes, run it and observe memroy allocations, reference leaks and unhandled errors as primary parameters.

  • LabView Application program crashses randomly

    Hi,
    I have developed an application for a monochromator system using LabView 2012 (32-bit version) as my programming language.
    My application performs calibrated scan using the Calibrated Photodiode from 300 nm to 1100 nm and then perform Device Under Test (DUT) scan from 300nm to 1100nm at an interval for 5nm.
    My application crashses randomly when inside a for loop that goes from 300 to 1100nm at an interval of 5nm, whether it is performing a Cal Scan or DUT scan.
    The one thing that is consistent is that it crashes whenever LabView executes my supplier’s .NET DLL/ function call. Once the application program goes into the monochromator function call, it does not give LabView the control back. The application is stuck inside the function call.
    On Good days I am able to scan up to 30 parts with no crashing, while some days it can barely scan 5 parts. It is very inconsistent.
    I am not sure if anybody have seen any problems using dll to interface with Labview 2012.
    I have attached an image of problem I am encountering, where the LabView application is stuck in the DLL and it does not give control back to LabView.
    I would appreciate any assistance on this subject.
    Thank you,
    Nirav

  • Labview 7 crashes when a vi containing a dll is closed

    Dear All,
    I've written a dll in C language to use a USB dongle. Before making my
    C code into a dll, I throughly tested it as a console application,
    using Borland C++.
    In Labview, I call my dll, using the call library function node. The
    first time I run my program, it does what I expect with the dll. If I
    try to run it again, it doesn't work. I found a program on the
    internet, called listdll, which displays the dlls that are currently
    loaded in memory. The dll that I wrote as well as the other dlls that
    this function uses (loaded statically), appear in the list.
    To get my program to run properly once again, I need to shut down
    labview and open it up again. However when I shut down Labview, I get a
    Labview-Application Error message, that says that the instruction at
    "0x06b323d1" referenced memory at "0x06b323d1". The memory could not be
    "read".
    How can I possibly get around this problem and how can I run my program
    several times without shutting Labview down in the meantime?
    My Labview program was written in Labview 7, but if needed be, I've
    also access to LAbview 8.
    Thanks in advance for your help,
    Regards,
    Alan

    Hi Alan,
    LabVIEW pre-allocates memory for calls to DLL's, if the DLL's goes over the memory allocation this can cause problems such as a LabVIEW crash.  Are any of the parameters arrays or strings?

    This only clue in the above I can find is NiViPxi.dll
    I am using a PXI rack so maybe it is to do with one of the devices?
    I would be nice to have more clues, does anyone know why labVIEW keeps crashing?
    Rgds,
    Sean
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi jinfone.t
    I managed to root cause it to a netway 72 PXI dll and have fixed the issue, (took a lot of effort!)
    - Does the crash only occur when you re run this particular VI that you are talking about?
     Yes
    - Is there any crash logs generated?
     None that I know of apart from the output I pasted on the screen.  It's possible there is something in the event monitor
    - What does your VI do?
    It function tests our product, (IOT)
    - Would it be possible to show the code?
    I'm afraid not as it is proprietary.  However, the issue appears to be due to the dll.  Netway may release the VIs but I believe you are required to buy hardware/ software.
    The issue I have is that LabVIEW is not handling this crash well at all.  It does not point to the problem dll nor does it drop a fail log that I know of.
    Thanks for the feedback.
    Ciao,
    Sean

    Hi,
    I have a problem with my app.exe build.
    I attach a simple code; the Vi open and close a TDM file.
    If I run this Vi in Labview works fine.
    If I build the application.exe on a notebook and I run it I got "Application crash with error ntdll.dll 00018fea".
    I've tried to build the Vi on another Pc Desktop with Labview and here if I run the exe it works fine.
    On the two PC I have LV8.5; the build options are the same.
    On the notebook I've try also to reinstall LV8.5 but I got the same error.

    Never ever do that! You were very lucky that both ntdll.dll files were probably the same version so the exchange didn't do much but ntdll.dll is one of the core Windows DLLs were everything goes through that normal applications may access in Windows. A mixup in such a part because of incompatitible ntdll.dll with other system API DLLs might prevent your computer entirely from starting up even in safe mode.
    You should not attempt to ever switch system DLLs between different computers. In such behaviour lays insanity. If you expect a system DLL to be corrupt attempt to do a repair installation instead. Also Windows nowadays has techniques to detect if a system DLL got corrupt and will attempt to repair it, though I guess if ntdll.dll would go belly up it's likely your computer won't even start up.

  • Labview Application Error

    Hi,
    A while ago, I tried to change the build-in AI read from NIDAQ6.9.1. On way or the other, the build in AI read was replaced by My AI read, which in fact was exactly the same as AI read. Because of problems when transporting the file to other PC's, I tried to fix this. That is where everything started to go wrong.
    When I save a file, I cannot reopen it: "labview application error" while opening. When I click OK, it sometimes adds something like "cannot find all necessary files or llbs". The funny thing is that exactly the same file, but saved on an other PC works fine.
    I then reinstalled everything containing the word labview or ni daq, but still the same problem: every file saved on my PC does not open anymore. Sometimes,
    let's say one out of 25, the file opens, but then craches closing.
    Can somebody help?
    Thank you.

    There is no size limit. The limit is probably something like two
    gigabytes or so. I have customer VIs on my computer that are fo
    ur or
    five MB.
    You say that it crashes. It would be helpful if you could be more
    specific. Is there a dialog? What does it say? If the dialog is a
    Failure dialog, then LV also creates a LabVIEW Failure.txt file that you
    can file with technical support along with a description and this will
    help to track down the problem.

    Hi go_sa,
    In Programs and Features are you looking under National Instruments Software for LabVIEW 2014? If so, and LabVIEW is not listed, have you tried re-installing the software?
    If it is listed under National Instruments Software, it sounds like there may be some software corruption causing the error. The next step would be to try repairing the program. If this does not work, you can try force re-install the program (link below) or uninstalling and reinstalling it.

  • Built Application crashes on deployed machine.

    I'm having a problem with both LabView 2009 and 2010.
    I've built an application that polls some deployed compact FieldPoints and compact Rios, selects specific channels, and displays a boolean based on if this value exceeds a range.
    Reading approximately 40 channels across 1 cFPs and 4 cRios.
    The application runs great in LabView on my development machine.
    I've installed the LV 2010 Run-Time engine as well as the entire 2010 Driver disk on two (2) separate computers.
    I build my application without any error and run my standalone executable on both of these machines.
    On both machines, the application will run for a variable amount of time (10 min to an hour), before the app crashes.
    I've placed Error wiring everywhere that I can think of that makes sense, but the front panel doesn't display any error codes when the application crashes.
    Is there some sort of dependency that I've missed?

    Update:
    I've written a new program for a new test we're performing.
    This application is of a significantly smaller scale, and lacks any sensitive information so I can share it with this forum.
    It currently connects to a single channel on 1 cFP, but will be later expanded to read some additional channels probably on a cRio. (My other program communicated with 4 cRios and 2 cFPs. )
    I'm getting the same problem; works on my dev machine but not my target machine.
    I have identified a specific piece of code that seems to cause the application to crash immediately.
    I'm using Data Sockets Read and Write to test that the network connection is active.
    (If anyone has a better way to do this, TCP/IP Ping for example please share)
    I'm posting my application for readers to scrutinize.
    Suggestions, criticism, and advice are all welcome!

  • Application Crashes Every time I Click the Path dropdown in the save....

    Here we go.....
    Every time I want to save in ANY appllication to a mounted server and click the path drop down in the save dialouge box my application crashes. I can save my files fine in column view but if I'm in list view my save dialouge box doesn't even show me the heirarchy of files either. So here is the error that I keep geting, maybe someone can make sense of it.
    Thanks

    Hi there,
    You could try performing a clean installation: [[Knowledge Base Article]] :
    Some Firefox issues can be resolved by downloading a new Firefox installer from Mozilla.com, then closing Firefox, deleting the Firefox application folder (program files) and reinstalling Firefox. If this does not help, or if you would rather completely remove Firefox and start over instead of completing all the troubleshooting steps, follow these steps:
    1. Download the latest official version of Firefox from Mozilla.com.
    * You should avoid unofficial download sites that bundle Firefox with other software such as the Google Toolbar.
    2. If you wish to retain your current profile, you should make a backup copy of it. See Backing up your information for instructions.
    3. Uninstall Firefox and make sure you remove the Firefox application (program) folder and your Firefox personal data (user data and settings) - see Uninstalling Firefox for instructions.
    4. Reinstall Firefox - see Installing Firefox for instructions.
    5. When Firefox is started for the first time, the Import Wizard will appear and a new profile will be created.
    6. Verify that the issue no longer appears.
    7. If you made a backup of your old profile and wish to restore your old information, see Recovering important data from an old profile. For troubleshooting purposes, only copy the files corresponding to your bookmarks and saved passwords.
    8. Reinstall your extensions and themes one by one to determine if any specific one is causing the issue.

  • Application crashes when using JNI with Jdk 1,2, 1.3 and 1.4

    Hi!
    I have this application that has a GUI written in Java and a file parser written in C. JNI is used to connect these parts together. The problem is that the application only works when I am using jdk 1.1.8 but not when using jdk1.2, jdk1.3 or jdk1.4. I am running the application on a Solaris 8 machine.
    I have not written the application myself but I am going to be working with it from now on. But I have today little knowledge with JNI and I have tried different approaches to solve the problem. For example I have tried to used DDD together with GDB to find out what the problem is but with no luck. When I run the application using jdk1.4 I get the following error when the JVM crashes:

    From this information I think that the problem should be in the native method setDebug. But I have tried to set a breakpoint at the beginning of that function in the C part but with no luck. The application crashes before it reaches that position in the C file.
    What could possibly go wrong between the setDebug function in the C part and the function call in the Java part?
    When using GDB, GDB cannot figure out what is wrong it just returns a hex address, no function name.
    I would really appreciate some help. I have tried everything that I can come up with!
    Best regards
    Lars

    I have figured out that the application fails on its first call to the native methods.
    So I have this Bitmap class that contains all the native calls and it is defined shortly as follow:
    public class Bitmap {
    static {
    System.loadLibrary("BitmapImpl");
    native void setDebug(int debuglevel, int statistics);
    There are many more native methods defined in Bitmap, but I only show the setDebug method because that is the first one that is executed and also the one that immediately fails.
    My setDebug C function is defined as follow in BitmapImpl.c
    #include <time.h>
    #include <stdio.h>
    #include <limits.h>
    #include <fcntl.h>
    #include <jni.h>
    #include <math.h>
    #include <errno.h>
    #include "Bitmap.h"
    #include "data.h"
    jint debug = 0;
    jint statistics = 1;
    JNIEXPORT void JNICALL Java_Bitmap_setDebug
    (JNIEnv *jenv, jobject jo, jint d, jint s)
    debug = d;
    statistics = s;
    My libBitmapImpl.so file is compiled using the following Makefile and using GNU gcc:
    JAVAPATH=$(JAVAINCLUDEPATH)
    LMACRO=-D_LARGEFILE_SOURCE -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -DSOLARIS
    CSOURCE=BitmapImpl.c
    all:
    gcc -O3 -G $(LMACRO) -I$(JAVAPATH) -I$(JAVAPATH)/solaris \
    $(CSOURCE) -o libBitmapImpl.so
    It is still a total mystory why the application fails. I have tried it on a RedHat Linux machine and there it works fine. But not on Solaris. Only if I use the jdk1.1.8 but not a later one.
    Would really appreiciate some help!
    Best regards
    Lars

  • DECODING MAIL FROM WEB SERVER IN PLAIN TEXT FORMAT(THE MAIL BEING SENT BY LABVIEW APPLICATION)

    Hi All
    I have a labview application that send mail every hour automatically.
    But actually the mail has to be decoded from the web server(by another application).But now when that application decode the data in the mail(that is send by labview application)its getting some funny characters inside that can not be detected by the decoding application
    (When open the mail no problem.)But actually our goal is to decode the mail from the web server.
    Why the extra characters are appearing when decoding from the server?Is it because of the HTML format?
    Is there option to send the mail in plain text format(not like attachment)?
    In outlook we can change the setting (tools->options->send->mail sending format->....here we can set as HTML format/Plain Text format)
    Like that at the sending time can i chenge the sending option as plain text format in my labview application?
    Thanks...

    smercurio_fc wrote:
    Then it sounds to me like this other application is not decoding the attachment correctly, especially if you looked at the attachment yourself after you received it and verified it's correct.
    No, no, smercurio. This is charcter encoding here. In older versions of LabVIEW you could specify what character encoding to use when sending an email through the SMTP VIs. But that gave problems since people in certain locales used certain characters that where not transfered right when the wrong encoding was specified, and that encoding stuff is not understood by most people at all, so the wrong selected encoding was rather the rule than the exception. In newer versions of LabVIEW do the SMTP VIs handle the encoding automatically based on the currently used locale on the system.
    This change is documented in the Upgrade Notes of LabVIEW and probably happened around LabVIEW 7.1 or 8.0.
    A decent mail client will recognize the encoding and convert it back to whatever is necessary before presenting it to the user. The OPs posters server application obviously isn't a smart mail client but probably just some crude text file parser that has no notion of proper mail character encoding and how to deal with it.
    I would suppose that there is a chance to dig into the SMTP VIs itself and try to manipulate or disable that encoding altogether in there but that may open a whole can of worms somewhere else. The proper way would be to process the incoming mail by a character encoding aware mail client before passing it to the text parser. On Unix setting up something like this would be fairly trivial.
