    Laura,
The new link at the top of the LabVIEW forums goes to an unauthrozied area:
    https://decibel.ni.com/content/groups/niweek-2011/blog/2011/08/08/the-sweetest-apps-at-niweek-2011

    Thanks Matthew!
The NIWeek group where that blog was published was just switched to private so that only NIWeek attendees can get content.  However, that particular blog post is also available in the public Sweet Apps blog so I've switched my link.

  • Labview Linux Displaying Chinese Characters

Hi all, i just installed Labview (Linux) on Linux Mint 15.  (Had to install using a guide i found on the forums for ubunto installation).  At any rate, it seemed to install correctly but  have a few issues.
    1) When i first start labview i get an error saying "The file /sur/local/natinst/Labview-2012/%F could not be opened.  No application was found to open that type of tile"  Any thoughts?
    2)  When i open some of my vi's (from windows machines) i get chinese looking characters on some of the indicator names.  If i reduce the font size, it goes back to english.  Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Okay, after alot of searching found out the problem, everything seems to be good now.

  • Apple need to have a support forum in Chinese language

many Chinese Apple users has problems unsolvable in any Chinese apple enthuaist forums and they don't speak English so they cannot get help from the rest of the world.

Apple's service in China is still horrible especially in smaller cities. most Mac owners in China are professional DTP users and graphics designers which reflected to an overall PC market share of less than 0.1%, much less than 6% in America. Chinese people don't buy Mac because Macs (besides Mac Pro) cost one time more than comparable custom-build PCs, zero companies in China make commercial Chinese Mac software, and Microsoft's silence about the massive pirating of MS software in China.

  • Labview Forum Star Rating Seems Odd - For Those Blue Contributers ;)

Whilst browsing throught the fourms one day....
I noticed the following indicated 1 star thread
Absolutely Beginner in LabView.(But advanced in CVI) Need help! http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=39090
Now I read these one star threads because often the person giving one star either has a really good reason or .... its contoversial or... well anyway,
I thought that the total seemed in error. That is to say that in the above thread the estimation on the summary was indicated as 1 star / 1 rating, whilst there actually appear to be 2 ratings. One of 5 stars (no supprises, it was for a contribution from Dennis Knutson) and another of one star for Wendy L (I would actually have probably clicked some more stars on that but I have left it alone for the moment).
So why do the blue contributers get proprity over anyone else? or is it a bug? or has the sytem changed?
Now I know the Star ratings are contentious, but if the thing can't even add!  I must have thousands of stars by now? or is it really zero after all?
    Firefox all patched
    IE 6 all patched

    Tst,
your not alone, I can't rate those either....

  • Adding a "FAQ" section to the LabView forum

    Hi Molly,
Please have a quick look at this thread where we introduce the idea of a FAQ section.
    Regards,
    Ray

There is an exisitng FAQ at: labviewfaq.org
This is available for contribution from anyone. You are free to post a response or an update to any item listed. All posts are visible after they are approved by the moderating team but submission capabilities are free to all. I'm not trying to divert your attention from your current goals but want to let everyone know that there are other venues. Also, content posted falls under a creative commons license which assures that the materials remain open to the community. This is similer in fashion to what Wikipedia is trying to achieve.
Based on this link, NI can use user submitted material any way they chose. How does this protect the hard work of the contributors?

  • Dll function calls from VB6 to Labview do not work.

    HI,
We are transferring our production test systems from VB6 to Labview, and we are using "CAN-AC2-PCI" cards. When call functions of dll "canacpci.dll", UUT does not response at all, and Labview program does not report any error either. Attached are the user manual and my labview codes.
I guess the DeviceNe_init.vi works because if run it twice, second runing will report error. To correct the error, the card has to be closed first..
I close the card first, then initialize it. After then send the data. But I can not see any communication by DeviceNet Analyzer when sending data.
All function parameters are copied from existing VB6 program. The VB6 program works fine.
    Please help me out,
    Thanks,
    Xiang Zhan

    Hi Turck,
I'm not familar with this device, and it is difficult to say in this case.  I would recommend calling into National Instruments support or contacting the vendor of the device for additional assistance in this case.  As this isn't one of NI's Industrial Communications devices, you could also post on the LabVIEW forums for additional assistance, as there are a lot more people looking at that board than this one.

  • Please Read: NI Discussion Forums Maintenance

    Hello Everyone,
In my discussions with Lithium (our forum vendor) regarding performance, they have suggested some maintenance on the forums that could help with our community's performance.
The maintenance is to "trim" subscriptions and floats (floated threads and boards) for all users in the community.  This means that if you added a message subscription or floated a thread more than 3 months ago, we would remove the subscription and/or float for you.  In long-standing communities like ours, users can build up many subscriptions and floats that can affect the performance of the entire community.
In order to keep the floats and subscriptions that are important to you, you just need to unfloat and re-float the thread, or remove and add the message to your subscriptions again because they will then be newer than 3 months.
I must stress that there is no guarantee that this will have a noticeable benefit for performance, but Lithium has recommended that we try this because it has helped other communities in the past.
I would like to perform this maintenance as soon as possible, but I recognize that it is the holiday season and we must give people adequate notice to take any action they find necessary.  Therefore, we will do this maintenance the week of January 7th, specifically either Tuesday January 8th or Thursday January 10th.  I will post the specific day after the new year.
Please post any questions or concerns you have to this thread on the Feedback board.

    I offer an alternative:
    RSS
For the heavy subscription users this is might be drastic shift in workflow, but as LabVIEW users we are used to that.
In my RSS reader (newsfox for Firefox) I have a group called 'discussions' where I have feeds from discussions I'm interested in.
Every thread has it's own RSS feed so you easily follow them.
Besided Discussions I also have trackers feeded through RSS.

  • Different badge for each forum?

As I understand the badge, the first bar is kudos and tags, second is number of posts and the third is messages read. If I go post on the Test Stand board where I have only posted one or two messages my badge is the same as it is on the LabVIEW forums. But I am not really an active participant in the Test Stand forum. My kudos count is relatively high but most of them are from the idea exchange and some messing around on Breakpoint.
Would it be possible that the badge change to match activity in the forum where the message was posted? Of course the overall badge would remain. Maybe a two bar badge? Something like the top bar is overall activity and the second for the forum in which the message was posted. Maybe a page that lists a users badge for each forum. The page would be filtered so that forums where the user has never posted or read a message do not show up.
We could have Knights Of LabVIEW, Members Of The Feedback Forum, Proven Zealots of Breakpoint... Of course there would probably never be a Knight Of the Idea Exchange. Maybe the thresholds could be tweaked per forum.
Just a thought and I am not sure how I feel about it. I was just thinking about how to show a users participation in a particular forum.
    What do people think?

What are you intending this to show? That if someone has those deep colors on, say, the LabVIEW forum, that if they go and post in, say, the Digital I/O board, then their comment should be taken with a grain of salt?
No, absolutely not. That is why the overall badge should still be shown. I am not sure I like this and hope that discussion will either make me like it, not like it, or realize that it is too difficult or impractical.
It is only intended to show participation in the forum where the post is made. I know that Ray would for example stand out in the Test Stand forum. It would let people know at a glance what a users expertise is. If it in any way diminishes the reputations that people have worked so hard to obtain then I am totally and completely against it.
To be honest I have been babysitting a very long series of tests that take thirty minutes each for the last couple weeks. This gives me a lot of time to read the forums and think about silly things like this. Maybe I should think about how to make these tests go faster and not need my intervention every thirty minutes.

  • Chinese Characters Displaying as Boxes

My iTunes used to display Chinese characters fine. But today, they all show up as boxes. I originally thought that it was something wrong with Windows, but I'm pretty sure it's an issue with iTunes. I tried to type in Chinese, and it works fine in other programs, but when I do it within iTunes (to change a song title), it becomes a box. And when I browse to the file within My Computer, the filename shows up in Chinese. But if I look at the properties of a song (Get Info), it will show the path with all the Chinese characters replaced by boxes. I believe this problem came up today, as I synced my iPhone last night, and it was fine then. I even tried to change the Language Preferences, but that only changed the menus and my songs are still boxes. Anyone else have this problem?

  • How to simulate a mobile robot using labview

    Hello,
Is it possible to simulate the movement of a mobile robot using labview?
I mean, is it possible to have a graphics window to show these movements?
    Thanks

In LabVIEW there are several options to display animated graphics in 2D and 3D. Here are some examples that can be found in the example library that ships with LabVIEW:
If you need further information I would suggest to post this question with some more details (e. g. a picture of your robot, type of movements,...) in the LabVIEW forum.

  • I have some software problems of running matlab script node in the LabVIEW program.

    Hi there,
I wrote a simple matlab code, like x= 1, y = x*2. Then I tried to put them into matlab script node in LabVIEW.
However, when I ran the program, I couldn't run and Labiew show some error.
Then I tried the method talked before on this forum. Please see the following link.
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=MathScript&thread.id=571
I followed the instruction and open the "command prompt," type some commands then I could run the program, and simultaneously, the LabVIEW program open "Matlab command line window" and run my labview code. However, if I didn't use the command prompt, the  "matlab command window" will not be opened by running the labview program. It would just show some error. And even if I turn on the matlab program in advance, I still couldn't run the labview program.
Is there any effecient way to deal with this problem without using "command prompt?" Because I try another PC with both matlab and labview installed on it, I "can" run my simple matlab script node on it, and it will open the matlab command line window automatically by running my code. Therefore, I thought there might be some software linking problems in the previous PC I used . Do you have any ideas?
    Thanks in advacne.

This board is for Mathscript, but you seem to have a matlab problem. You should probably post in the LabVIEW forum instead.
