LabView help won't open

I have been trying to open the search LabView help and the help won't open.  A window appears but then it won't load.  I haven't done anything different to my computer, this just started happening suddenly.  The whole program then usually crashes when I try to close the help after a while.
Any ideas?

Does this happen no matter when you try to open LabVIEW help? Even if you click the LabVIEW Help button on the Getting Started page?
Does Context Help (Help >> Show Context Help) still work?
What version of LabVIEW are you using?
Also, can you open LabVIEW Help or any other help file externally? LabVIEW Help can be found in Program Files >> National Instruments >> LabVIEW x.x

  • CP5: Community Help won't open

Is anyone having an issue with Community Help in CP5? I was able to open and search the Help the first day I installed CP5. But I didn't want all the community stuff at first -- just Adobe's own Help, so I changed the Search Location to Local Help.
Ever since then, I can't use the Help -- of any variety. I open the Community Help page, do a search and get no results at all. I can't select anything from 'Search location' as it's all greyed out. And if I try to open Account > Sign In, I just get a blank screen over the top of the Help window and nothing happens (I waited 15 minutes this morning for something to happen and it didn't).
I can't get Help either by clicking the Help link at the bottom of some of the windows (e.g. Publish window) -- again, I just get a blank screen.
In all my recent attempts to get Help to work, I've had to close it several times by killing the process in Task Manager as it won't always close by clicking the X.
In case it matters, my CP5 is installed on a Windows XP SP3 machine, with 4 GB RAM and about 250 GB free hard drive space. And yes, I've cleared the CP5 cache.
Any suggestions on how I can get the Help back?
    --Rhonda

I was contacted by the Product Manager for Community Help who offered the suggestions below. I had to uninstall and reinstall the Community Help and now it's back! Hope these suggestions help someone else who might have this issue.
Local search is dependent on the presence of a particular file (chcsearch.html)  that is downloaded when a user first downloads the content.  The best way to  confirm is to check via the Help application’s Preferences UI.
On the Mac, open up the Help app, and then look in the OS  menu (Adobe Help > Preferences).
On Windows, open up the Help app, and then look under Edit > Preferences (or hit Ctrl  +K)
In the Preferences UI, you should see a Local Content tab on  the left.  You should then see “Using Captivate 5” listed in the main window  with a status message. If it says, Current – great. If it says, Pending Download  or Update available, please go ahead and update via the Update button on the  bottom of the panel. In fact, it may be worth updating just to ensure that you  have the latest version of the content and ensure that you have the necessary  search file in place.
If this is not addressing your issue, it may be necessary to  uninstall and then reinstall the Help app (i.e. just the AIR app, not Captivate  itself) via the instructions outlined here:

  • CS2 - Help won't open in Photoshop, Illustrator, GoLive

    Hi,
I am unable to open the help center in Creative Suite 2 for Photoshop, Illustrator, and GoLive.
After I click help, or press F1 to open help, I see the help program appear as a button on my Windows taskbar at the bottom of the screen. But if I click on it to open/switch to help, nothing happens. It's like the help center is "invisible".
I have tried renaming my prefs file to see if a new prefs file would fix it. It didn't.
It seems like this is a problem I had with the previous version of these programs, too. (I think that was Photoshop 7??) I had fixed it in that version, but can't remember what the fix was. I can't seem to find this problem in the forums or support either.
It's driving me crazy!! Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

The help (zip) files are still available:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=319210&sliceId=2
While this addresses an issue that CS2 users (including myself) have experienced, I'm not convinced that Natalie is having this particular problem. She doesn't mention getting the "CS2 product not installed" message.
    >"the help program appear[s] as a button on my Windows taskbar at the bottom of the screen . . . It's like the help center is "invisible"
Could it be that the help window is simply positioned off-screen?

PS: If a window is offscreen, press Alt+Spacebar, M (Move), and use the arrow keys to move the window into view.

  • Illustrator Help and InDesign Help won't open

    Hi,
I am having issues with the Help option within all of the CS5 programs such as Illustrator and InDesign.  In past versions I could open up the help and it would bring up the electronic manual right inside the program.  Now it just launches an application and I get an error message saying "Adobe AIR...The installation of this application is damaged.  Try reinstalling or contacting the publisher for assistance."  Same thing in IDD.  What does AIR have to do with Illustrator Help?
    Thanks

It's the little intermediary app that manages the help. Since as of CS5 help can also be stored locally (again), this tool would allow you to download pages for offline viewing. There's a standalone icon for this in your CS5 program group. try to launch it standalone. If that doesn't help, reinstall Adobe AIR and download the patch for this help client from the support pages. There was an issue at some point, but it should have long been fixed with an automatic update., Apparently that hasn't happened on your system...

  • "Help" won't open any OSX help topics

Lately, I've been finding that when I search in the help, I can't open any of the OSX help topics. The Help either runs and runs and does not bring up any results, or, if an OSX topic is displayed, when it is clicked on, I am promptly brought back to the home of the Help section. This hasn't happend with any of the other program help sections. Can anyone give me any suggestions? I have the idea that maybe updating to 10.4.8 would fix this problem, but with a 56k dial up modem, this is made difficult.

    Hi sammi,
first of all: WELCOME TO THE DISCUSSIONS!
This is a well known problem, although it became quite rare lately. Try this: FIXED: Help Viewer crashes or shows blank window. Some regular system maintenance may prevent this problem from happening: MacOS X 10.3/10.4: System maintenance

  • BT Desktop Help won't open

explorer just doesn't want to know my windows XP, and I use chrome as my browser.
BT Desktop Help, tries and fails to open up in explorer.
Is there any way I could get BT Desktop Help to open up without explorer??
    Thanx

I believe BT have now stopped sending a CD with BT Desktop Help to new customers. Away back in the dim distant passed it may have had a place on your computer but now operating systems can work without it.
I personally think it is a piece of software junk and a health warning should come with it, that installing it on your computer can seriously effect its health!

  • ITunes helper does not open at startup. Wrong security settings. (?)

iTunes helper won't open at startup, I have to open it manually (because I know it is busted). How can I fix the security settings, reinstall it, or get a newer version. Running Mtn Lion on 2011 MBP.

  • LabVIEW help not opening

This is frustrating. When I try to open LabVIEW help, I get a popup box that says "File not found: mk:@msitstore:<somefilename>." I know this is a windows problem but I cannot find a solution anywhere. I've looked at the security updates and MS knowledgebase. I've reregistered and replaced my hhctrl.ocx file, I've looked at the registry, etc. I've tried every solution I could find and .chm files still won't open, which includes pretty much all the LabVIEW help. What else can I try???

It's definitely a generalized Windows problem. I've been all over the web looking for fixes besides re-registering hhctrl.ocx and was hoping someone here might have tried a different fix. It's looking like I'll need to rebuild Windows to get this fixed (i.e. Delete everything and start over.)
The error I posted shows up whenever I try to open any .chm file. HTML help opens fine. I've tried installing the MS Help Editor program again and it didn't help any. I've tried deleting the help system directories and letting Windows recreate them and that didn't help either.

I don't know whom to thank first-- b noir for telling me about the Lorraine fix or Lorraine for figuring out the fix. THE LORRAINE FIX WORKED FOR ME!!! (I feel a little like I am advertising "Hooked on Phonics" with that last line!)
Thank you doesn't say it strongly enough, but THANK YOU b noir and Lorraine for your help. I was to the boiling point last night and starting to get there tonight. Now I am resting easy and thankful that there is a community of computer users out there who care enough to troubleshoot problems together and work together to figure out a solution--and then to take the time to post and share information.
I would STRONGLY suggest that anyone who is having the iTunes issues where iTunes just plain won't open at all after downloading the newest version and has a pc with Norton Internet Security 2005 try the "Lorraine Method."
I am so happy I think I might sing. Or not--I will let my songs on iTunes do the singing for me now that I can again!!!!!!!
And to those still looking for answers--be patient--I now know how incredibly frustrating this can be and I hope that you all find your solutions very very soon!!

  • Itunes 10 Installs but won't open - Please Help

I had Itunes 10 installed working on my computer. I installed a program which also installed an older version of Quicktime which I think was version 6.5. The next time I tried to open Itunes it said I needed verion 7.5 of Quicktime to open Itunes please reinstall Itunes. Now comes the problem. I have installed and uninstalled Itunes about 10 times, everytime it install ok but does not open when I click on the icon. The itunes.exe file opens in task manager for a few seconds then closes. I have searched a few places for solutions with no avail. I have tried the correct order of removing apple programs and deleting temp folder and internet cache. I have tries msconfig but can't find any of the programs which have affected other users. I have tried creati9ng another user account for windows but Itunes still won't open. Can anyone please help. My computer is Windows 7 32 bit. Thank in advance.

No, the program I installed was Winavi MP4 which coverts video to ipod psp format etc.
Ack, that one's just as bad. It's been causing this sort of grief for iTunes users for over five years now.
What it has probably done here is drop old versions of QuickTime componentry in unorthodox locations on the PC (usually down in your operating system files). So we're going to go looking for that.
First we'll adjust some view settings on the PC.
    1. From the Start menu, click Open.
    2. In the Organize menu, click Folder and Search Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
    5. Click OK.
Now, in Computer, open your C drive (or whichever drive your operating system is installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "System32" folder.
What files or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file or folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • TS3297 When I go to the iTunes store, all I get is a black screen. No error message, just won't open. I have tried going to iTunes on another device and it works fine.  Help!

When I go to the iTunes store, it won't open.  I don't receive an error message of any kind, just a blank black screen.  I have tried to access the store on other devices in my home and it works.  All my music shows up in my library, but nothing will show up when I go to the actual store.  I have updated my software and made sure the date/time are correct.  Everything else seems to be working fine on my computer.  Not sure what is going on, but would really appreciate any help you can give. Thanks!

I'm expreriencing the same conditions with the same environment.  Windows 8, iTunes-64 11.1.2.32, iTunes Store with a processing bar up to 80 +/- and the POPUP MESSAGE OF "iTunes stopped working. The error ...."
I UNINSTALLED, iTUNES WITH NO POSITIVE RESULT.  I CHECKED THE FIREWALL AND IS THE SAME DEFINITION AS THE PREVIOUS ITUNES VERSION.
My iTunes StoreS from my iPhones ARE OK.
I'm spending a lot of time of research for WINDOW'S iTUNE with no solutions....

  • HELP!  I downloaded the newest version of iTunes and now it won't open.

Hello, Everyone--any help you could give would be greatly appreciated since I am freaking out a bit about this!
I have had iTunes since April when I got my iPod mini. I have downloaded the newer version of iTunes any time it has prompted me to do so when I open iTunes.
So, tonight it tells me there is a newer version. I download it just like always, but this time, when I double click on iTunes, nothing happens. So, I read some of the other posts on here and followed some of the directions like going in to the add/remove hardware and seeing if it's there and then repairing it. I did just that--it's there and it repaired it, but to no avail. I am stressing out now. Now, when I go to shut down my computer, it takes several minutes to shut down--and it never did that before. My computer is newer and was working fine until this happened. Yes, Quicktime appears to be working fine. I am just wondering if I did something wrong or if there is a HUGE flaw with this new iTunes version since it would appear others are also experiencing technical difficulties. Any help any of you could give would be greatly appreciated! I have a Dell Dimension 2400 with the Windows XP operating system. And once again, I have never had problems with iTunes until today. Oh--and when I plug in my iPod, that doesn't pull iTunes up either now. HELP!!!
    Thank You,
    Alexis

  • Firefox won't open, error msg = can't find profile; deleted all app.data to rid new Win 7 Total Security virus - tried both v 4.0 & v 3.6 (now no error msg either). Can't open profile manager, can't open safe mode. pls help

My mother's computer was infected with the new "Win 7 Total Security" virus (apparently a fake antivirus program) - corrupted real av. To remove, we followed online advice to delete everything in AppData, for all programs, plus some other stuff. We moved it all to a flashdrive for safety, but after successfully removing virus, likewise cleaned & reformatted flashdrive. This apparently deleted Firefox profile(s), and after uninstalling & reinstalling, Firefox still won't open - I can't create a new profile. With v 4.0, I get an error message about not being able to find the profile. Found advice on how to open profile manager, but it won't open. Found reference to version 4 dispensing with profile manager, so tried installing version 3.6 again; still won't open, still can't open profile manager, but now no error message at all.

THANX for the reply cor-el. I've never had a problem using just "firefox -p", but i did use the full path like you advised after i read the profile manager article here before i posted my question. Unfortunately it didn't work. I've backed up all 3 profiles from the "%appdata% profile" file, and also from my remaining main profile that i'm on right now. I decided i'm going to uninstall ff3.6.28 & upgrade to "firefox 11" this weekend and hopefully create the other 2 profiles along with my main one. I do like in the newer versions of FF the tabs on top like googles chrome because it gives you more room on the page. I also like some other features too, but the main reason i kept my old version both times is because the newer versions didn't seem to load pages any faster than version 3.6.28. I'm not going to worry about some themes/personas not being compatible with ff11. I'll find some new ones. I think when i tried "ff9" awhile back along with my current version, i just deleted the shortcut that the article said to create on the desktop and still had all 3 profiles & no problems like i have now. In case your curious, the article on how to create more than one version of firefox at the same time was on the site "Dottech.org>[How To] Tip: Install multiple versions of Firefox to test before upgrading to latest release". It works but i obviously did something different this time that caused this problem. THANX again for your time/help, i do appreciate it.
