LabView, IMAQ and NT4 SP5

Is anyone aware of problems using Labview 5.1, IMAQ 2.2, and the IMAQ pci1408
card in a pc running NT4.0 Service pack 5? I can acquire images using the
IMAQ exlorer interface, but I cannot use VIs. I get an error during IMAQ
Init with a valid interface number. (img0) Also, the PCIIMAQ.SYS driver
doesn't show up under the Devices control panel. I believe the installation
was done correctly. Any clues?

I have had problems with SP5 on NT. SP5 has many fixes for the NT OS,
but it also replaces many drivers. Try to reinstall your Video Card and
your IMAQ card drivers aftrer a SP5 application.

I'm new to using labview.  I'm wondering if ni-imaq and vision acquisition software is compatible with labview student edition?  I have tried to download ni-imaq 4.6.4 to my laptop and was not successful.  I also tried to save vi's from school load them to no luck.

Reading your description, it sounds like you are having problems downloading. That should not depend on whatever you have installed on the PC. Could it be you are having problems installing? Please be very specific!

  • LabVIEW 2013 and IMAQ PCI-1408

    Hi All,
I am having a difficult time installing the drivers for a IMAQ PCI-1408 framegrabber board and accessing the IMAQ vi with LV-2013.
The new version of NI Vision do not install the drivers for driver for the  PCI-1408, the latest version that does is IMAQ 3.7
    as discussed here:
    http://forums.ni.com/t5/Machine-Vision/PCI-1408-driver-needed/m-p/989858/highlight/true#M24810
If I install IMAQ 3.7  NI-Max and system control Device Manger both show the card working, but the installer does not install any IMAQA vis into LV2013 vi.lib.
If I then try to install a later version of NI-Vision it will not install until I un-install IMAQ 3.7 and it un-installs the drivers for the board,
but I do then get the vi for IMAQ into vi.lib.
I could then copy these to some safe place, uninstall the new version of IMAQ, re-install IMAQ 3.7 and move the vi.lib/IMAQ back. Would this work or are there software incompatibilities or is there another way to have install vi.lib/IMAQ and also have the PCI-1408  drivers. Should I save the driver files, ie pciimaq.sys and install the PIC-1408 manually.
    Very frustrating!
If this is never going to work what is the latest version of LabVIEW that will work with the PCI1408 or is it best to buy a new board?
    thanks
    Michael

That card is several years old and at this point you should probably consider buying a new board.

  • Saving image from CCD Camera (without IMAQ and Vision)

    Hi,
I am using the basic Labview 7.0 (no IMAQ and no Vision). I am triggering a
CCD camera (Megaplus ES 310 Turbo) from my NI acquisition card and the
signal goes to the triggering input of the camera. How to save the file
captured by the camera under labview? I found the "Write a jpg" VI but how
can I refer the image data to it?
    Any clue is truly welcome.
    Thanks
    Mathieu

    Hi Matthieu,
What kind of format is your CCD image in? If it’s in some sort of a pixmap (2D array) then you can use the Flatten Pixmap VI in All Functions >> Graphics and Sound >> Graphics Format to convert the pixmap to an image data cluster. You can then pass this image data cluster into the Write JPG VI.

I just find the section out for you about remote control of your
    camera:
    1.7.1 Remote Control.
Redlake Imaging also supplies the Serial1 program that enables a
    computer to control the
MotionScope system from a remote location through the serial port.
    Refer to Manual Addendum
    9400-0014 for detai
ls of the Serial1 program and how to control the
    MotionScope system from a
remote computer using a standard communications program.
So you need to find the serial command (for RS232) in manual addendum
9400-0014. I couldn't find it in website maybe I did not search
throughly, but you may have it if you own the camera. And these
commands are just for controlling the camera system, not grabbing the
image, so you may need a frame grabber to get the image into your
computer and do the further processing.

  • NI-IMAQ and WDM driver

    Dear Sir:
    1. Have you know any fuctions can support NI-IMAQ for WDM driver?
    2. If couldn't, how can I use the LABVIEW made of WDM driver? or anything else ways can make it?
    vovo

    Dear Sir,
The NI-IMAQ driver is made for our image acquisition boards from NI. Inside a program it can interact with no problem with any other driver. I believe you are referring to the wavelength-division multiplexing driver for a laser instrument, is that true? If so, could you be more specific on what are you trying to accomplish and why would you like to have IMAQ and WDM interact with each other?. Please elaborate your question with more detail so we can assist you. You may try as well to reach us at www.ni.com/ask and choose Email or Phone NI Engineers.

    Hello Arend,
I attached a vi which you can use to read the size of the image you acquire and than scale the IMAQ Image Display according those settings. I also build a small example which shows how to use the subvi. They are both in the zip file. They are both written in LabVIEW 7.1 so if you're using an older version please tell me which and I will save it back.

  • Run-time engine problem in Labview 2009 and Labview 2010

I have a problem with Labview 2009 and Labview 2010. I updated my Labview 2009 into 2010. But it turned out to be a trial one, because i did not have the serial number. So I uninstalled the Labview 2010. however, the funny stuff came over. I cannot use my Labview 2009. So i uninstalled Labview 2009 again. But eventually, I could not reinstall Labview 2009. Every time i had a runtime error and i could not proceed with the installation. in addition, any installation  related to Labview is not permitted and the same error came up every time. it is very annoying.
    So, What is the deal?
I attached the error here. Any comments or advice are welcomed and appreciated.

By chance is this machine's language set to any non-English locale?  You would check the locale setting by:
    Opening Control Panel.
    Opening "Regional and Language Options".
Looking Under "Regional Options" >> "Standards and Formats"
If it is set to something besides English, trying setting it to English and please report back what locale it was set to (or if this even solves the problem).

  • How do I find out the exact path of each and every file that LabVIEW finds and loads into memory for a given top level vi?

How do I find out the exact path of each and every file that LabVIEW finds and loads into memory for a given top level vi? There is probably a trivial, easy way to get this info, but I have not yet found it!  Thanks..

Or if you want to grab all the paths programatically, try the attached VI.
Open the top level that you want all the paths from and close all others, then open the
attached and run it. It will return an array of all the VIs that the VI
in question uses, including vi.lib VIs. You can filter these as well if
    you like.

  • LabVIEW 2011, and Excel 2010: saving problems

Hello to all! I am a student of Mechanical Engineeringfthat very little has been using this software. I present the problem: for a matter which is called Biomechanics, I and my colleagues, we have developed the design of a rheometer, which is controlled by LabVIEW2011. Since we are still at the experimental stage, always has been simulated using labview: the whole experience. So, labview, at present, not only controls the stepper motor through the frequency sets, but also simulates the output (in the specific, the response to the torsion of the cartilage, simulated with a low pass filter of the second order). All this was done by my colleague more experienced than me, who today passed me the finished project that in his pc works perfectly while not in mine (we have the same version of labview, but different version of office). In practice, the program is fine (there is no arrow "Run" broken) and the simulation with the creation of the sine graph (response of the cartilage) is done perfectly. My colleague then set labview in order to save the data to an excel sheet at the end of the simulation, asking the user where to put it (the excel file must already exist, labview does not create it). The excel file should contain two columns and a scatter plot (one column represents the frequency, f, of the stepper motor, the second represent the shear modulus G, which increases as the frequency increases and the graph represent the trend of G in function of f). As soon as I decide to save the data, excel opens, for an instant appear the scatter plot and data in columns but immediately after the graph disappears and remain only the columns with data (so I have to make the graph "manually") and labview gives me the following error:
Error -2147023170 occurred at Property Node (arg 2) in NI_ReportGenerationToolkit.lvlib:Excel_Insert_Char
    t.vi->NI_Excel.lvclass:Excel Insert Graph.vi->NI_ReportGenerationToolkit.lvlib:Excel Easy Graph.vi->SaveExcelFile.vi->Progetto 2.0.vi
This error code is undefined. Undefined errors might occur for a number of reasons. For example, no one has provided a description for the code, or you might have wired a number that is not an error code to the error code input.
Additionally, undefined error codes might occur because the error relates to a third-party object, such as the operating system or ActiveX. For these third-party errors, you might be able to obtain a description of the error by searching the Web for the error code (-2147023170) or for its hexadecimal representation (0x800706BE).
    What can I do?
    Thanks. Regards
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The LabVIEW Report Generator in LabVIEW 2010 and more recent versions does, indeed, work very well with Excel in Office 2010.  I helped someone about two weeks ago with a problem saving a series of measurements to a (new) Excel Workbook.  Your problem differs in two ways -- you want to save in an existing Excel file (why? Aren't you worried about overwriting data, or are you trying to add a new WorkSheet, or append to the end of an existing WorkSheet?) and making a Chart.  I've not tried charts, so don't have advice right now.
Judging by your error message, it is the Chart feature that is giving you trouble.  Can you see how your code runs if you eliminate the Chart functions?  [You can do that by putting a "Diagram Disable" Structure around the Chart code, clicking on the top of the structure and wiring the wires through in the Enable case].
Give that a try and let us know what happens.

  • Strange problem of calling library function node in labview 2010 and 2011

one year ago,I develop a program to usb device data and it works well,in labview 8.6 or 2009(win xp).Recently, When I test
the program in labview 2010 and labview 2011(win xp).,the program always crash immediately.I check the program and find main
problem is in call library function node. In my program,I use labview 2009 library for the USBExpress driver for
    Silicon Labs USB MCU's from:https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-9522,for example, 2 functions SI_OPEN and SI_READ
    can not work well.
the header definition of SI_OPEN and SI_READ is:
    SI_STATUS WINAPI SI_Open(
    DWORD dwDevice,
    HANDLE* cyHandle
    SI_STATUS WINAPI SI_Read(
    HANDLE cyHandle,
    LPVOID lpBuffer,
    DWORD dwBytesToRead,
    LPDWORD lpdwBytesReturned,
    OVERLAPPED* o = NULL
the SI_STATUS is equivalent to int type.
orignally, for HANDLE * in SI_Open, the parameter type in call library function node is numeric, data format is unsigned 32 bit integer ,and pass pointer to value.
for HANDLE in SI_Read, the parameter type in call library function node is numeric, data format is unsigned 32 bit integer ,and pass value. The program works well in labview 8.6&2009,however,crash in labview 2010 &2011.
later,I debug the program, for HANDLE *, I choose parameter type in call library function node as adapt to type, data format is point to Handles.for HANDLE, I choose parameter type in call library function node as adapt to type, data format is Handles by Value.Crash not happend in labview 2010&2011,however,it cannot read any data from from USB device correctly as before.I can not find the reason.
Dear friends,I need your help to answer the problem. Thank you.

Based on the help page it looks like it should execute asynchronously.
The thing in the description that leads me to believe they execute asynchronously is that you can configure the library to run as a multi-threaded operation.
Please take a look here to see the difference between synchronous and asynchronous execution.
Since the code even has the ability to be multi-threaded, you can consider it as running in parallel to your other code.
Any data returned is passed to the thread that called that function.

  • Labview, ActiveX, and VarPtr

I currently have a 3rd party ActiveX product that I am using with Labview 11.0.  One of the Methods requires me to pass the VARPTR of a TYPE (Labview Cluster) and the LEN of the TYPE.  In Visual Basic, VARPTR and LEN produces a 32bit signed long integer word.  How do I get the Labview-equivalent of VARPTR and LEN values of a Labview Cluster to pass to the routine.

You can get a pointer to a memory address in LabVIEW.  The functions you'll need are DSNewPtr, MoveBlock, and DSDisposePtr.  These functions are built into LabVIEW and you can call them using a call library function node configured with the library name set to "LabVIEW."  They are documented in the LabVIEW help, and there are examples for how to use them on this forum.  You can get the size of a cluster by flattening it to a string, then getting the string length.  If your ActiveX component expects to do something useful with that cluster, you may need to reorganize the cluster or add extra padding elements because LabVIEW does not necessarily pack structure elements the same way other software does.  Also be aware that LabVIEW data has the opposite endianness of most Windows software so you may need to do some byte-swapping.

  • Questions re: GPIB-ENET, LabView 5 and 7, license and Win XP

We have a full development version of LabView 5.0 on a Win 98 SE machine, and just acquired a GPIB-ENET box that came with Solaris drivers. I loaded the GPIB and VISA software on LabView 5.0 and tried to connect to test the setup to no avail. It appears that all of the drivers are present. I believe that my problem is that I cant get the IPAssign network driver bound to the 3Com ethernet card. When I load it in network properties, it doesnt offer any hardware to bind to it. If I run IPAssign anyway, it claims the only networking hardware available is dialup, and sits forever (probably waiting to connect to a dialup line).
The ultimate plan is to upgrade to LabView 7, and install it with the GPIB-EN
ET box on a Win XP system. I have a demo version of 6.1, so I loaded that on the XP machine and tried again. LabView 6.1 appears to be missing drivers for GPIB-ENET, and looking through the knowledge base tells me a driver bug leaves Win XP incapable of assigning an IP address to GPIB-ENET anyway.
    My questions are:
    1. Should it be possible to get LabView 5.0 with 98SE talking to the older GPIB-ENET box, at least to set the IP address? Is this failing because I need to download the license (p/n 778258-02)?
    2. If I order LabView 7 and install it on Win XP, will I still need to download the license to run it, or is that included in version 7?
    3. Once I get LabView 7 and the driver and the license (if necessary) will I be able to assign the IP address with this setup?
    4. If the answer to #1 is yes, with a license and to #3 is no, then can I download the license, use it to assign an IP address on LabView 5 and transfer it to LabView 7/ Win XP when I get it to use the GPIB-EN
    ET box?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
Which version of the GPIB drivers are you using? We recommend using NI-488.2 v2.0 for your GPIB-ENET device (for Windows XP and Windows 98).
    1. Should it be possible to get LabView 5.0 with 98SE talking to the older GPIB-ENET box, at least to set the IP address? Is this failing because I need to download the license (p/n 778258-02)?
A: If you have version 2.0 of the drivers, you should be able to assign the IP okay. Do you see a pattern in the LEDs flashing? Check the READY LED and see if you see a pattern, as this indicates an error code. The following formula can be used to find the error code:
    error code= (long flashes-1)(short flashes-1)example: 3 long flashes, and 9 short flashes = (3-1)(9-1) = 28
If the READY LED does not stop flashing, it indicates that the GPIB-ENET does not have a valid IP address assigned to it. According to this KB:
The problem is the Ethernet address. The field for the Ethernet address in the IPAssign Utility is meant for the last four digits of the Ethernet address on your GPIB-ENET (the first part of the address is the same for all GPIB-ENETs, so it is pre-filled for you). If you run the IPAssign Utility again and fill in the last four digits of your GPIB-ENET's Ethernet address (in the format: xx:xx), then you should be able to assign it an IP address successfully.
More details: The Receive LED flashes because the Ethernet header for the packet is correct and the GPIB-ENET recognizes that; However, the header was actually duplicated when you entered the Ethernet address in the IPAssign Utility, so it did not match the exact Ethernet address of that particular GPIB-ENET. The only numbers that need to be entered into the Ethernet address field in the IPAssign Utility are the last 4 numbers in the format: xx:xx.
Note: The user must decide what the IP address is going to be. Your IT department could probably help. The Ethernet Address however, is statically programmed into each ENET. It's usually labeled at the bottom of the unit.
Also, refer to this KB regarding some IP issues we've had with some of the older GPIB-ENET devices.
    2. If I order LabView 7 and install it on Win XP, will I still need to download the license to run it, or is that included in version 7?
A: You should uninstall and reinstall NI-488.2 v2.0. If you already have this driver, you will not need to re-license it. The driver is not included with LabVIEW 7.0 by default.
    3. Once I get LabView 7 and the driver and the license (if necessary) will I be able to assign the IP address with this setup?
A: You should be able to assign the IP fine. Look at the response for first question above to make sure you are assigning the IP correctly.
