Labview& NI ELVIS
Hi to all,
I connect 1-phase supply to a diode bride full wave rectifier with R-L load
through voltage sensor(LV-25P) and current sensor(LA-100p). I take the source
voltage and source current and connected to analog channels of NI ELVIS.
Through NI ELVIS device Iam able to see the waveforms in Labview. I use normal
labview but not Labview real time.
Then I use transport delay block to delay the waveform by 90 degrees but I am
not getting the delayed waveform.
I am attaching the circuit , please go through it & tell me what i have to done
to delay the signal which I has taken through NI ELVIS.
Finally Is it possible to find out the harmonics in the source current which
i has taken through ni ELVIS if i build the control circuit either in normal
Labview???? or in Laabview Real time???
Waiting for reply.
Thnks in advance

Error 2 when starting LabVIEW from ELVIS Instrument Launcher
I have a WinXP Pro SP2 box that's running LabVIEW 7.1 (academic license) and NI ELVIS 2.0.1.
When I perform the following steps,
1) Log on to the WinXP machine as a user who does not have Power User or Administrator privileges.
2) Click on Start > All Programs > National Instruments > NI ELVIS 2.0 > NI ELVIS
3) Wait for the "ELVIS - Instrument Launcher" application to finish initializing.
4) Click on the "Launch LabVIEW" button at the bottom of the ELVIS - Instrument Launcher window.
I immediately get an error dialog that says
_dialog_box_text_
Error 2 occurred at System Exec.vi. Command
was "LabVIEW.exe:\ "C:\Program Files\National
Instruments\NI ELVIS 2.0\ELVIS - LabView
Launcher.lib""
Possible reason(s):
LabVIEW: Memory is full.
NI-488: Write detected no Listeners.
["Continue" button]
_/dialog_box_text_
[n.b. The characters ":\" that immediately follow the LabVIEW.exe program name (see above) are not a typo on my part. Those characters are shown on the Error 2 dialog box.]
It seems unlikely to me that the ELVIS - Instrument Launcher application has run out of memory. The host machine has 512MB of physical memory and the ELVIS - Instrument Launcher application is the only (user-layer) application. The Windows Task Manager (via a "3-finger salute" - Ctrl+Alt+Delete) indicates ample memory resources are still available when the Error 2 dialog pops up.
For what it's worth, if I perform steps 1 thru 4 above while logged on as a WinXP administrator user, I do not get the Error 2 dialog. I get instead the "NI ELVIS - LabVIEW Launcher" dialog which offers the following 3 choices: View NI ELVIS Examples; View NI ELVIS Instrument Source Code; Open LabVIEW.
Is there anything I can do to correct the Error 2 problem for non-administrator users?Hi,
Well since it works as an admin, I am assuming there is a problem with you being an admin all the time. If there is, then I would suggest giving full sharing privileges to the National Instruments folder, to whichever user you are. See if that works. Let me know.

How many voltages having not common ground can be measured at a same time? I have learned how to measure one floating ground (NSRE) voltage and common ground voltages (SRE) at a same time. I do NSRE measurement this way: higher potential of measured signal is linked to "ai0", lower potential linked to "aisense". Can I measure multiple NSRE signals simultaneously?
Hello Labview elvis daq
You can measure multiple NSRE simultaneously, just connect your higher potencials to the aiX and all the lower potentials to the aisense. The maximun number of channels will be equal to the number of Analog inputs that your device has.

I wrote a program on a laptop in our lab that used both the NI Elvis power supplies and DMM. On the laptops in the lab, which connected to NI Elvis through a board in the NI-PXIe device the program worked perfectly both as a vi and as an executable. The program needed to be put on some computers in another lab for student use with a different version of labview, and everything worked except for the variable power supplies. I activated debugging and it reported Error 7 at New File, NI 488: Non-Existent Board. After attempting to trouble shoot this and not finding any helpful results I attempted to rewrite the program on the computers directly, since I could only put the program on the computers as an executable since it was written in 8.6 and the computers only have 8.0 and 8.2. To begin I was going to launch labview from NI Elvis to use one of the example codes as a base for my program. When attempting to do this I got Error 2 with the possible causes being Labview memory full and NI 488: Write detected no listeners. My question is are the two errors related, and how can I fix these errors? All the NI Elvis software is 2.0, the original program was written in Labview 8.6, the computers have Labview 8.0 and 8.2 on them. The NI Elvis devices are connected directly through the computers, rather than through another device, I'm not sure if this might be causing some obscure hardware issue.
Hello Chris,
It looks like this error is associated with not having administrator privileges. Take a look at this other forum post for more information:
http://forums.ni.com/t5/Academic-Hardware-Products-NI/Error-2-when-starting-LabVIEW-from-ELVIS-Instr...
If you can log in as an administrator you should be able to avoid getting error 2 when you launch LabVIEW from NI Elvis. Alternatively, you can upgrade to NI-ELVIS 3.0, because the issue is fixed in that version of NI-ELVIS. You can find this by going to ni.com/support and searching for "NI-ELVIS 3.0"

Error 9302 occured at NI ELVIS VPS-close.vi
I tried to make an analog to digital converter using labview and
elvis. My aim was to take the rms and average values of input signal
from elvis prototyping board and also to reconstruct the original
signal using build waveform vi. The example vi " RC Transient.vi" is
not working. It shows a broken arrow which connects vps-initialize vi
to device no. Also when i try to run my vi it shows error 9302 with the
message " specified refnum tyupe is invalid. For instance, you may have
connected a refnum from fgen-vi to vps-vi." On this site i got the
suggestion for error 9302 that I should check my device no. but that
seems to be alright. Can there be any other reason for error 9302? Even
when i tried to make A to D converter using fgen vi's (initialize
,close, update etc.) instead of vps vi's it shows the same error
message. Please helpThank you for contacting National Instruments.
It is very likely that the reason you are experiencing this problem is because you are using a M Series Data Acquisition board with the NI ELVIS.
There is a great KnowledgeBase article that explains why the courseware VIs won't work with your device, and offers replacement VIs that do work.

Mydaq usb connection - lost immediately
Hello,
I just recieved a mydaq, and am having troubles getting it connected. The process I followed, was install the supplied software (labview, NI-Elvis, NI-mydaq drivers), and then plugged in the usb mydaq. It is found quickly, finds driver successfully, and then immediately disconnects. The blue light on the unit stays lit as long as the USB is plugged in.
After unplugging, and replugging in the unit, I hear an audible sound from windows 7 confirming a new device has been connected (same sound as when plugging in a USB drive), and within 3 seconds, another sound is heard, (same sound as when unplugging usb drive).
When I load the ELVIS application, and try to take a DMM measurement, under the Device dropdown box, it says No supported devices. But, when I plug in the myDAQ, "No Supported Devices" changes to "myDAQ1....." for a brief second. So, it looks like its being found, but loses connection immediately.
I may have a defective unit, but unsure. Does anyone have any recommendations on making the DAQ maintain a usb connectionHI,
Just to let you know of my experience. I had the same problem as you . It kept loosing connection and making a sound every time it lost connection, very frustrating.
The fault was my own making . I used a USB cable that was not the original and was longer than original.
Works fine now -
I am trying to install the ELVIS system on multiple computers. LabVIEW 8.2 has already been installed on all of the computers. I am trying to install the CD that accompanied the ELVIS as well as the PCI card. However, when I install both of them and try to run ELVIS an error comes up on all the computers with "Unable to locate the LabVIEW Run-Time engine"
please help, thanksWhen you tried to unistall LabVIEW and ELVIS in your Windows Control Panel, did you make sure to select the National Instruments folder under the list of programs first? Also, do you have any other National Instruments software installed on your computer? If you navigate to the National Instruments folder in Control Panel and still do not see your LabVIEW software, please e-mail or call into support. We will be able to send you a special utility which will remove your software even if it doesn't show up in Control Panel. It sounds like this issue would be fixed by a reinstallation. Thanks!

dear all,
I am trying to open the example in "intro to ELVIS" file but somehow it is executable because some of the vis can not be found. Does it require installing any add-on toolkits? Or is it because the LabVIEW or ELVIS I installed are not working properly? Thank you very much for your help in advance!!
Jiaamisare,
You are correct. The
stoplight.vi is an example and uses the ELVIS driver. The ELVIS driver is installed in the
instr.lib directory.
1. What
DAQmx VI’s is LabVIEW asking for?
2. Do you have multiple versions of LabVIEW?
3. Did you encounter any errors when installing
DAQmx?
4. When reinstalling did you uninstall the DAQmx
driver first?
If you perform a reinstall with the current driver still on
your system then the installer will recognized that and it won’t over write any
of the DAQmx driver files. I hope this helps.

Measure current and voltage in Elvis and labview
Hi! We're setting up a control system setup for class where we need to monitor the current and voltage that we are supplying/drawing from the ELVIS hardware within a LABVIEW setup. So far, we can accurately display voltage input and outputs from the AI and DAO terminals respectively. However, we can't seem to find a direct way measure current draw. I believe that we are supposed to be able to get DMM readings from the AI5 channel, but either we're not doing it correctly, or we still need to place a known resistance across it (which we cannot do, due to variable loads). Any advise please?
Cheers,
GeraldAre you using Elvis I or II? From your post, I will assume it is Elvis I but please correct me if this is not the case. Page 38 of the manual shows that ACH5 is used for capacitor or diode measurements for the DMM. To measure current, use the connectors on the front of the Elvis unit and then route the current HI/LO on the protoboard to either the oscilloscope or an analog input channel. You can use the DMM Soft Front Panel to monitor current as well.

Output labview array to LED grid using DI/O on Elvis II??
I have been working on a project. I am attempting to use the DI/O on the ELvis II board to power an 10x6 LED grid similar
to the common-row cathode design here
http://www.appelsiini.net/2011/how-does-led-matrix-work
I have been attempting to generate block patterns using an array in labview, then somehow convert this array to show the block pattern on the grid. I was planning on using DI/O 0-5 to power the columns and DI/O 6-15 to power the rows. Is such a thing even possible? So far I have created a simple DAQ assistant to control the DI/O on the board and can control values that way. i was just interested in knowing if they can be controlled using a labview program.Generate digital pulse from your D I/O to control the relay. With Digital High State, the mechanical arrangement will connect the COMM to "NO" .... and you will get your programmable Ground. (in your case NC is not necessary I hope)
The device is not so costly. you can purchase 4-5 number with your pocket money only. And It must be available to your nearby Electronics Shop. Use 1 for each line.

Does anyone know how to use ELVIS in Labview to get current and voltage measurements?
Trying to use ELVIS in Labview to get measurements with a NI myDAQ.
I have changed from using the ELVISmx driver as I was unable to call on the digital multimeter of the myDAQ twice, I have set up a VI using the DAQ assistant with the myDAQ, I am using the AI0 port for a voltage reading and using the DMM for my current reading, the circuit is working as I am measuring the voltage on a resistor after the ammeter but I am unable to get a current reading in order for it to work. If I have something wired wrong please let me know, thank you. My circuit is a 12VAC power supply, going through a potentiometer to drop the voltage to 8VAC, which passes through a resistor, ammeter is in series after this and attached to another resistor to complete my loop, the AI0 for my volt meter is connected across the second resistor, I have the proper voltage reading when I run the VI, but am unable to get a current input. Thanks for the help.

ELVIS 1 AND ELVIS II LABVIEW VIs COMPATIBILITY
I am currently working on a project that was previously using Labview (8.5.1) vis built for elvis I, we have now moved on to Elvis II and are experiencing problems that are believed to be steming from the differences in channel configurations. Could some one be as kind to avail channel configurations for both elvis I and Elvis II and what modifications we may need.
Hi,
First, I want to reference you to the support page for the NI ELVIS II and its help manual.

I want to verify what exactly is going on in your program when you upgraded to NI ELVIS II. Are there any errors you are seeing? Are you able to get it working in Measurement and Automation Explorer? Also, what drivers are you currently using?

Ni elvis oscilloscope vi in labview
Hello,
I'm using NI ELVIS and Labview to drive a remote labratory over the internet.
For this reason, I'm using the ELVIS source VI's running in labview, and not the elvis panel.
When using the VI source code for the oscilloscope, the time division function does not work properly.
When adjusting the time division, the waveform is not squeezed or stretched as it normally would.
The waveform stays the same, and the time division lines move! And if I decrease the time division below a certain value, the display itself shrinks.
What should I do about this problem?
You can veiw the distance VI's here:
http://elvis-test.cecn.sabo.mtu.edu/oscope_test.html
I did not change the source code in any way, except for moving the "Help" buttons out of the veiw of the user. (These are useless for the remote users.)Hello,
When you installed NI-ELVIS library under LabVIEW 8.2, those
VIs were complied for that version of
LabVIEW. You can always open a VI in a
newer version of LabVIEW but you can not open a VI in an older version of
LabVIEW.
Do you have both LabVIEW 7.1 and 8.2 installed on your
computer at the same time? Have you installed
the NI-ELVIS VIs for LabVIEW 7.1?
You may have installed the NI-ELVIS for LabVIEW 8.2 and not
for LabVIEW 7.1. Those VIs are probably
complied with LabVIEW 8.2 and LabVIEW 7.1 is unable to understand how to open or
run those VIs.
What errors are you getting when you try to use Firefox? Both LabVIEW 7.1 & 8.2 should be able to
display remote front panels in Firefox. Here
is a great KnowledgeBase that describes why you might be getting some plugin
errors with Firefox.

What is the proper way to set up an encoder on an Elvis prototyping board with Labview 2010?
I am using a PCI-6024E with an Elvis I and MCU Project Board. I've tried using the quadratureencoderm-series.vi as well as experimenting with the counter channels in the Measurement and Automation Explorer; however I have been unable to find the proper channels to read the data from this encoder. I'm having trouble configuring the counter to work properly. Can anyone tell me which pins I should be connecting the encoder signals to? I've attached a datasheet for the motor and the encoder. Any help would be appreciated.

MT-003-datasheet.pdf 381 KBHi jns0086,
I see your problem. I believe that example was written using Traditional DAQ, a set of drivers and functions that have since been replaced by DAQmx. What version of LabVIEW and Windows are you using? There are some compatibility issues depending on your version on LabVIEW and your operating system.
In the meantime, if you have everything connected properly, you should be able to count your edges using one of the built-in LabVIEW examples. Go to Help>Example Finder and then browse for Hardware Input and Output > DAQmx > Counter Measurements > Count Digital Events > Count Digital Events.vi. See if that helps.
Have a great day,
Chris
