  • Error from labview 6.1 with the system windows 7

I use Labview 6.1 vi to control a Tektronic oscilloscope and a BNC universal pulse generator via GPIB-USP connection. The vi worked very well with the system windows XP. The system was changed to Windows 7. Then one error message (Trigger signal is not recognized. Check the connection between 'Trigger out' and 'Aux in') comes whenever I start to run vi. The connection between 'Trigger out' and 'Aux in' works under mannual mode, so it is really ok.
Could the compatibility between Labview 6.1 and windows 7 be the reason? If yes, are there tricks to use Labview 6.1 on windows 7?  Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I do not know coding with Labview actually.....
I set the pulse generator to mannual mode and send pulsing signal to scope. The signal was received well and displayed by the scope. It means the connection between 'Trigger out' and 'Aux in' is ok.
The record of NI I/O interface is attached when the error message comes.
    Thanks.

  • New LabHSM Toolkit - Agile development of complex event-driven maintainable LabVIEW applications with active objects / actors based on a universal Hierarchical State Machine / statechart template.

    Dear Fellow LabVIEW programmers:
Most of the systems you deal with are reactive. It means that their
primary function is constant interaction with their environment by
sending and receiving events. But most likely, they can have something
happening inside them too, even when they are not processing messages
received from outside. So, such systems have to continuosly react to
external and internal stimuli. Right? Moreover, most likely, they
consist of subsystems that are reactive too and, in turn, can have
their own "life", to an extent independent from other parts (with
which they still communicate, of course). Reactive (event-driven)
systems are more naturally modeled with active objects. So, why then
should we try to model and code them with GOOP and its passive
    ("dead"!) objects?
"Flat" State Machines have been known for decades to have severe
limitations. It's been more than 20 years since Dr. Harel invented
Hierarchical State Machines (statecharts) to fight those limitations.
Then why does NI still tout the same old good Moore FSM as the
ultimate tool for event-driven programming in LabVIEW in its $995
    State Diagram KIt?
The LabHSM toolkit we are happy to present, makes it possible to
easily create and then maintain complex event-driven applications in
LabVIEW as a collection of HSM-driven active object VIs using a higher
level of abstraction and agile software development methodologies.
These active object VIs are created based on a universal Hierarchical
State Machine ( HSM or statechart ) template. So. all your code looks
    similar regardless of its functionality!
We all love just jump to code, right? However, to be good boys, we
need to do design first. Then implement it in code. If the logic is
modified we need to redo the design first and then redo the code. When
using LabHSM where behavior information is abstracted into a separate
HSM data file editable with a supplied editor, there is no need for
coding separate from design any more. The modified behavior becomes
code automatically as soon as the HSM file is saved. Design is code!
The implementation basically follows Dr. Samek's Quantum Programming
paradigm. (see http://www.quantum-leaps.com). However, as already
mentioned, LabHSM stores the behavior information in a file separate
from the code itself. It also adds state dependent priorities to
events, a separate queue for public events/messages, and, of course,
some LabVIEW specific code like capturing front panel user events and
putting them into the private Events queue. Communication and
instantiation functions are also rather specific for LabVIEW.
It is available for UNLIMITED PERIOD trial. Please visit
http://www.labhsm.com for details and download. The site also contains
references which you may want to check to learn more about
hierarchical state machines and active object computing.
Since this is our debut we will appreciate any comments and
suggestions. Our contact information is available on our site, of
    course.
    Have a G'day!

  • Can we call LabVIEW VI's (saved at shared location say server)from two different test stations?

    Hello All,
My question is related to calling and execution of LabVIEW Vis  from two or more different teststation(Test System) using NI TestStand.
Following are some definitions to understand the question better
A Test Station:is a independent sytem.different instruments(Multimeter,Function generator etc) are connected to this Station.Teststaion using NI TestStand for Test managment.
A LabVIEW :LabVIEW vis are saved at share location(server). These vis are responsible for communicating with different instruments connected to TestStation.
Execution:TestStand calls these Vis in sequene to perform particular test.
My query is to know ....Can we call and execute shared labVIEW vis from two or more TestStation simulatneously and cummunicate with connected instrument on each teststation.
Is there any possiblity of conflict as using same vis but on different station?
My concern is to avoid duplicacy of similar vis.Is there any better option to implement the same concern?
    Thanks in advance

I suggest you to try adding the shared vi to the labview project(.lvproj) running in same or different stations which is connected to the instrument. Adding the vi to a project will open it in the project instance instead of default application instance. Hence there won't be any conflict in execution.

  • Crystal Reports XI R2 SP 6 - Issue with setting Data Source Location

    Hello,
After some initial difficulty instally CR XI R2 with SP 6 on a windows XP machine (see thread Error on installation of CR XI R2 SP6), the Crystal Reports environment seemed fine, however, when I tried resetting the datasource location on an ODBC datasource between a development and production server, I get the message 'Some Tables could not be replaced as no match was found....'   The tables in the two databases are identical so that isn't the issue.
    Here is some additional information
The issue seems related only to DSN's that point to a progress database.  I am able to reset datasource locations for DSN's that use the SQL server driver and also for those that use the XML CR ODBC XML Driver 5.0.  I am not able to reset the datasource locations on the DSN's that use a Progress Open Edge 10.1 DB  driver.
I can create a new report using the DSN for the Progress Driver and add tables, but the table names are coming up as an alias - i.e. if I add a table called PM_Plant, the table added to the report is PM_Plant1.
I also found I can go into existing reports, rename the tables in the database expert to be an alias (appending 1 to the end of the table name), then I am able to repoint them using the datasource location screen.
So it looks like there is a potential work around to the situation, but I didn't run across any information that we should need to do that.
Any recommendations how to fix the issue?
    Thanks,

    Hi Don,
The reports were created with CR XI R1 on my PC  initially and the progress drivers have not changed since.   The reports were deployed to a server and I pulled them back to my PC to test out any changes after the CR XI R2 SP 6 upgrade.  (so there is really only one machine involved, the one that had the upgrade).
I did look at the settings for verifying and tried playing around with those and also with verifying the database but that didn't make any difference.
I wasn't quite sure which registry keys to look at or what the values should be so wasn't able to pursue that option.
All the tables in the progress database use underscores as part of the table name (i.e. PM_Plant, PM_Company), do you think the upgrade to SP6 means that the underscore is now a reserved character and that is why the tables are getting aliased?  If so, do you know how to change the alias settings or the list of characters that are reserved?
Just an FYI, I had to downgrade back to CR XI R1 at this point to get work done.   If time allows, I'll retry the upgrade in about 5-7 weeks.  I discussed the issue with a system admininstrator and we willl try removing the progress drivers and DSN's prior to trying an upgrade again to see if that makes a difference.  I'll also make sure to keep track of all Report Options and Options and also registry keys to see what changes.
    Thanks

  • LabVIEW VI with Report Generation Toolkit elements in a TestStand sequence does not run with a LabVIEW 8.5 Run-Time Engine

    Hi all,
I am using LabVIEW 8.5.1 and TestStand 4.1. I have done a TestStand sequence with a VI in it, which uses Report Generation Toolkit elements. On my machine I am using LabVIEW and TestStand with a Development System license. On the other machine I am using TestStand with a Base Deployment license and I have chosen the LabVIEW 8.5 Run-Time Engine in the Adapter Configuration. Everything is running well except of this VI with Report Generation Toolkit elements. The error message is showing that the VI is not executable. It works well only after I have installed LabVIEW with an Evaluation license and chosen LabVIEW 8.5 Development System in the Adapter Configuration.
I have found other posts and a document in the KnowledgeBase with a similar problem: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/8A0E6274D9BD7B1986256F62006AD402?OpenDocument But I am not using EXE files in my sequence, so I don't know how to solve mine. Anybody has an idea?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello guys,
thank you very much for your answers!
    @Ruediger:
I tried to follow the instruction for Method 2 in the mentioned document: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/F3DC40A6E3F3B25B862570AD005D1D3D?OpenDocument, but the steps on my machine are different starting from step 4. After I click "Continue..." in step 3, I dont get a window, the system just makes a new folder with the same VI.
To be honest, I am new to LabVIEW and have some difficulties at this time. What I understood from your reply is, that I need to make a LLB-File, where the files from Report Generation Toolkit are in!?
    @GovBob:
I was following the instruction in the document: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/9E00E7EFE0635E678625734600779EFE, but it wasnt working. Can you please tell me how I can check if the VI Server is installed and running on the machine?
I am using LabVIEW 8.5.1 and TestStand 4.1 on my machine, on the deploy machine there is TestStand 4.1.1. The version of my Report Generation Toolkit is 1.1.2.
    Kind regards, Roman

  • LV 8.6 will Not Compile in LV 2010 - Labview 10.0 Development System Has Encountered a Problem and Needs to Close

I submitted this support request to NI on 8/12/2010.
When I compile my LV 8.6 app in LV2010 I get this error:
"LabVIEW 10.0 Development System has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."
I was told to do a "Mass Compile" of my LV 8.6 app in LV2010...this failed too.
I was then told to go to each and every vi and "Mass Compile" individually...after about the 50th vi this got old quickly...and it still didn't compile.  I then sent NI tech support "my code".  The good news is my LV 8.6 app didn't compile with LV2010 @ NI.
My LV 8.6 app compiles and runs great in LV 8.6.  I don't want to be left behind with the newer upgrades and I want to move to LV2010.  I have lots of LV8.6 code to maintain and I really don't have the time to debug all of my apps.
I was told this will be looked @ in LV2010 SP1.
One note...back up your LV8.6 data before you move to LV2010.  Once your LV8.6 code is compiled in LV2010 you will not be able to go back to LV8.6.
I restored all of my LV8.6 code and I'm back working with LV8.6.
It's a tough call, do I stay in LV8.6 and get left behind?
Do I bite the bullet and try to debug this mess in LV2010?
I was told the compiler is completely different in LV2010.  That's great, but one reason I have NI Maintenance Agreement is to keep updated with the latest software.  I can't afford to re-compile LV code every few years.  Like most people, maintaining my Apps with customer's revisions, and modifications is enough work.  I don't want more work!
I was told LV2010 SP1 would likely appear in May or June of 2011.  I'd hate to break out my old Turbo Pascal apps again...but hey...they still work!  My NI maintenance agreement is due this month too, I guess I'll pay NI one more year, and see if they come up with a solution.  But if NI doesn't fix this LV8.6 compile in LV2010 problem...I don't see any value staying current with LV software.
I found another Bug with LV2010...you are going to love this one!
There is a new "LV Update Service".  Perfect!  I like updating my LV software when new patches are available.  When I click "update" the update spins over and over "Checking for New Version".  I have let it run ALL day with no results...just sits and spins over and over.
OK, I know give NI a break!  Yes, LV2010 has a new compiler...and Yes, I will renew my NI maintenance agreement.  I just want NI to know failing to compile just one LV8.6 app in LV2010 is not a good idea for customer relations.
    Thanks,
    Doug
