  • How to find the device number for the line input for sound measurements

    Hi,
I would like to measure the input of sound wave given to a line input of a PC. Can anyone tell me how to write a DLL  Program to actualy get the device numbers. Appreciate your help.
    Thank You,
    Mudda.

    Hello Mudda,
Are you connecting a microphone to the sound card of your PC?  I assume
that you want to use the built-in LabVIEW Sound VIs, and would like to write a
LabVIEW DLL which returns the device numbers of the sound devices.
If you are using a Windows system, you will have to use some Windows API
    functions to get that information.
Microsoft (and their website) can help with the specific functions which
enumerate the sound devices (with documents like this:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/multimed/htm/_win32_devices_and_data_types.asp).
Your LabVIEW DLL will then be a wrapper for a Windows call.
I am happy to help out in any way I can.  Feel free to post again with a
little more information on what exactly you wish to do, or with any other
follow up questions.  Thanks for posting!

It sounds like you have solid experience. Have you considered contract work? The job market kinda sucks right now. Check out net-temps.com and jobcircle.com. Presently I work through a contract house called YOH Scientific, yohscientific.com in Newark, DE. I'm sure they could find you work but they'll skim a lot off the top. I worked with optical comm when I lived in Mass. Too bad it took a dive. I still see a lot of opportunities for RF comm in southern New Jersey. They usually want LabWindows/CVI. Since you know c/c++, LW/cvi would be a cake walk for you.
Parts of California are also looking hot. I just got this from my net-temps search agent:

  • Labview 8.6 sound and measurement suite not installed properly under Vista 32 or 64 bit

I apologize if this isn't the correct place for this post but I'm in need of a solution. I recently purchased LabVIEW 8.6 Developer Suite with the Sound and Measurement Suite to create a NVH testing program at my company. I'm a newbe at Labview but I've been a programmer/computer hardware geek since the days of the TRS-80 model1. Here's my problem. I installed the package from the developers suite DVD's on my Windows XP professional desktop and everything is fine. I see the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite listed under LabVIEW 8.6 in Measurement & Automation Explorer and the toolkit examples work in LabVIEW. When the laptop I purchased to do my actual work arrived with has Vista Business Edition 32 bit version installed I found the following problem. On that machine and two other Vista machines(one 64 bit and one 32 bit) that I tried, the installation doesn't register the Souind and Vibration Suite under LabVIEW 8.6 and they show the Sound and Vibration toolkit as not installed in the examples section. In the Windows control panel under National Instruments, all 4 machines show the Sound and Vibration Suite 6.0 as installed. I've tried to uninstall, reinstall, modify, from the control panel, and reinstall from the DVD's with no change in the outcome. I really need to get the laptop working as this is my actual development and test machine. Installing XP is not an option as the machine is newly purchased with a high end sound system and XP downgrade wasn't available. I'm out of ideas.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I wanted to let close this as I got it working finally. This time I un-installed the Sound and Vibration entries from the LabVIEW control in Vista's uninstaller. Then re-installed and now it works. Before there were three entries, one for the suite, one for the runtime, and one for the toolkit. After removing all three and re-installing from the DVD, only the suite shows up, and all seems to be good.

  • Changing a software into a Labview Programme

    Hi all,
I am new to LabView and would like some help in changing a software into a Labview Programme.
The PC software is a platform that enables a PC to control a R/C transmitter. It is written in C# therefore I need to change it into LabView for my project.
For more information about the software you can download it from the following link: (http://www.min.at/prinz/?x=entry:entry130721-182227)
It is under the PC control software section.
    Thanks for all the help!!!

    Welcome to my world.
I have been working on a project (not a school project, a work project) for a while now to emulate a set of C/LabWindows programs to LabVIEW.
"Why?" RavensFan asks. Because the software on the instruments we build needs rapid updating as the instruments are updated, doing this in C is always a major task (it is thought that using LabVIEW should [eventually] be quicker and less prone to error), and we are a small company which cannot afford the luxury of a staff of C and/or LabWindows programmers.
But what RavensFan says is true. You have to figure out exactly what the C# program does and how to do the same thing in LabVIEW. You cannot do a transliteration by any means, it will come out like some of those old Japanese instrument manuals transliterated into English, and have just about as much use (i.e., none). But you have at least one thing in your favor, quite a bit of the C# code functionality can be replaced with very simple LabVIEW code.
As to understanding the C# code, well, you just might have to grab one of your buddies and bribe him with pizza (the Universal Currency for students) to walk through it with you until you can understand the flow of the program. This may take more than one pizza and/or night.
One thing, remember to make your LabVIEW code modular (i.e., using subVIs for common tasks) so you can (1) fix one bug and have it corrected in many places at once, and (2) build VIs which don't take up acres of screen real estate - there is little that is so frustrating (to me, anyway) as having to skip back and forth over a 9000x2600 pixel screen to troubleshoot code.
    Best of luck,
    Cameron

  • Software Installation for Sound Blaster X-Fi Notebook

5Software Installation for Sound Blaster X-Fi Notebook[ Hello, I have searched through the sound blaster forum for an answer to my question, but have been unable to find it.
I recently recieved a sound blaster x-fi notebook. When I inserted the unit into my computer, the drivers installed just fine and I am able to use it, however, when I try to install the software bundled with the product on disk, something goes wrong. To be honest, I have no idea what it is. The problem seems to be with the install wizard itself on the disk provided me, because the install progress gets to about 20% and freezes while installing the Creative Console Launcher. I'm not sure if I just need a new CD, or if it is a problem with the software itself and nothing can be done.
If anybody can provide some insight as to what the problem is or how I can fix it, I would be very appreciati've.

    Hi,
Glad that it work for you. I think someone is asking for feedback in that driver download thread. Maybe you can post your feedback there on how is it for your x-Fi Notebook with the new driver set. I believe there are others who would be like you and would certainly love to hear any good news. Everyone has always been posting on what's bad and what's not working, but i think we should also post to tell what's good and what's working.

  • Looking for modal analysis software for ground vibration tests

I'm looking for Labview code or compiled program that will work with a NI/VXI data acquistion system and supports modal analysis of ground vibration test data on airplanes. Specifically, based on accelerometers, need to synthesize mode shapes; mode indicator function; stabilization diagram; damping estimation; mode animation; mode overlay (comparison); Modal Assurace Criteria (MAC); plotting.

LabVIEW and our dynamic signal acquisition products, particularly the NI 4472B have been used extensively for acquiring data from GVT on aircraft.
For conducting the analysis that you describe, there are several good solutions from some of our partners. These include MTS I-DEAS, m+p International Smart Office, and Vibrant Technology's ME'Scope. All of these packages directly support the NI 4472B as a front end. MTS recently delivered a system to KARI for a high channel count GVT test that used the NI 4472B as the front end.
MTS is developing a new package based on LabVIEW for doing this type of testing, but won't be available until sometime later.

  • I am looking for a reasonably priced sports video analysis software?

I am looking for a reasonably priced sports video analysis software? I need it to tag events during a sports game, then be able to recall the tags later.  There is software out there, but not a lot that are MAC compatable.

There's no way to do those things on an iPad.  If you have already installed a new application on the iPad (Disk Drill) then your file has probably already been overwritten.  Sorry.
