  • Labview integration with SEL 421 specifically in terms of Phasor measurements

I am looking to get PMU data from a SEL421 relay into labview system using ethernet. I am a beginner and do not have much experience with communication blocks in labview. Can you please help me understand the concept and point me in the right direction.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi, I have been using Hyper terminal for a while to communicate with the device and it works fine. I have also been using a custom software specifically designed for the SEL421 called the SEL Quickset software without any communication issues. I failed to communicate with the device using Mdbus/Jbus tester.
    Issues with VISA test panels:
    1. I did not find any device driver specifically for SEL 421 using IDNet.
    2. When I try to read registers/send command using VISA test panels, I get I/O errors.
I have attached the some screenshots and SEL configuraton details as read from hypertrm.

It sounds like you have solid experience. Have you considered contract work? The job market kinda sucks right now. Check out net-temps.com and jobcircle.com. Presently I work through a contract house called YOH Scientific, yohscientific.com in Newark, DE. I'm sure they could find you work but they'll skim a lot off the top. I worked with optical comm when I lived in Mass. Too bad it took a dive. I still see a lot of opportunities for RF comm in southern New Jersey. They usually want LabWindows/CVI. Since you know c/c++, LW/cvi would be a cake walk for you.
Parts of California are also looking hot. I just got this from my net-temps search agent:

  • I want to become a Labview programmer and I have no programming experience where do I need to start to learn labview programming

I have had LabVIEW Basics 1 and 2 what do I do next?

I always recommend the course of action that I took when I learned LabVIEW (in one week).
Go get "LabVIEW for Everyone" and "Power Programming". They are readily available through NI's website, or through a good technical bookstore, or even a college bookstore. From there, just go through the example programs.
I strongly recommend also learning good style. LabVIEW comes with a style guidelines book (which, apparently, only 6 people have ever read...) This will get you started on the road to good practices. LTR is also a good resource.
    Good luck.
Oh, also, when you have gotten some experience, I recommend taking Advanced. I took it (three years after I learned LabVIEW) and was very happy with the course.

  • TS3274 My iPad gets very hot even with short term use. Is this normal?

My iPad gets very hot even with short term use. Is this normal?

I assume that you mean your new iPad - the 3rd generation model. No - that is not normal. Some users have reported this issue and it may be that you have a faulty device.
It may get a little warmer than the previous models of iPads but it should not get "very hot" under any circumstances. Return it - take it to an Apple Store and let a Genius have a look - contact Apple however you need to do so - and let them know about it - but that is NOT normal.

  • HT5569 Can I use an iPad in a short-term rental apartment with free wifi in Scandinavia?

We are considering buying an iPad 2. We will be traveling in Scandinavia and the Baltic area for five weeks this summer, staying in short-term rental apartments that all have free wifi. Wil we be able to use an iPad in these countries: Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia and Latvia? If so, what kind of an electrical adapter will we need to charge it?
    Thanks!

Wifi is the same everywhere so no issue there.
The Apple charger is universal, It can take voltage from most countries so all you would need is a plug adapter to connect it to European outlets.
Your best bet is a set like this, so you are prepared for wichever outlet type you encounter:

  • Cache Memory Allocator \ Short Term Memory Allocator Issues

    Hi all
I have a number of identically configured (High School) Servers which are giving me the same memory errors (some more frequently than others) and I've run out of ideas.
They are all HP Proliant DL360 G6 Servers, NetWare 6.5 sp8 with eDir 8.8 sp5.
    The error messages are :
"Cache memory allocator out of available memory." followed by "Short term memory allocator is out of memory. xxx attempts to get more memory failed. request size in bytes xxxxxxxx from Module SWEEP.NLM"
The module referred to is always "SWEEP.NLM" (Sophos Anti-virus). A Server reset solves the problem but it is normally back within a month.
I've posted below a config.txt and segstats.txt from one of the servers.
I would be grateful if someone could help me with this as it's now becoming a 'headache'.
    Cheers
    Neil Hughes

Somewhat. From the time of day, and the loading of commvault modules
inbetween, this looks like a combined backup / AV scan issue. The
requests of Sophos are comparably big in size, and they vary a lot. That
will lead to fragmentation of your memory, until the memory can't be
allocated in one chunk any more. It also *seems* as if Sophos actually
scans the data while it gets backed up. That is *bad*.
